The "Cake" would have been entirely insufferable, if it was more than half a bite.

We were in Vienna last week and decided to give this place a try. If there's a place that has a Michelin star or two near us while we're traveling we'll generally try to get a reservation me check it out. We've eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world and we're hopeful for this seemingly new, edgy place. The ambiance is cool, and we were excited when we sat down. We both order the tasting menu with wine pairings. The service was solid. The highlight of the evening was the sommelier, which promptly delivered our pairing with enthusiasm, and showcased each wine for us. Honestly, we should have ended the evening there. The food was completely subpar, and I don't mean simply by Michelin star standards, I mean by even fast food standards. The tasting menu's dishes were tarted-up and looked the part, but the flavors were non-existent or missed the mark entirely. The main course, each of us only took a few bites of. Same goes for the course that preceded it. Honestly, the best thing we ate was the amuse-bouche. My wife, a world class cake fan was super excited for the dessert course and hoped it could salvage the otherwise incredibly disappointing cuisine. It was not to be. The final disappointment. The single star is for the ambiance, and sommelier. I would give zero stars for the food If I could. If you want to spend $500 for bland food and leave hungry, this is the place for you. If not, stick with one of the cities other establishments

However, my personal favorite restaurant for authentic Austrian cuisine is Schitzelwirt! They have an exceptional Biergarten in the front of the restaurant or inside dining if you want a more romantic setting. I recommend enjoying their traditional Wiener Schnitzel with Herb Potatoes. Aperol Spritz & local Sturm Wine pairs nicely with this meal. The service was excellent! They are able to speak English but restaurants are the best place to try using your Deutsch and the staff will be very pleased and create laughs around the table. Also, this restaurant isn't very close to an U-Bahn station so I recommend using a taxi or Uber to arrive and continue your night.

The restaurant is big with lots of seating available and prices are reasonable as well. We even saw a photo of Ed Shireen on the wall during our time there indicating that he had eaten at the restaurant before! Menus are in English and German and the staff are able to communicate in English fluently. They also have some outdoor seating as well. We both ordered the Wiener Schnitzel. Sides are separate so I ordered a salad while my partner ordered a side of fries. The salad was tart and fresh. The schnitzel portion was huge! We got 2 big pieces of schnitzel each on the plate. I tried to finish my plate as best as I could but it was difficult. The coating on the schnitzel was crispy and just the perfect thickness where the pork meat was pounded to the perfect thickness. Overall, a great place to grab some schnitzel in Vienna!

Like Demel, Cafe Central is a MUST visit when you go to Vienna, where the coffee houses are a sight to behold on their own. Yes, the wait is quite long. Every time I pass by, there's a line, but it actually goes rather quickly and if you can find something to do to pass the time, it's like nothing at all. First off, the interior is STRIKING, a work of art in its own right with marble columns, stylish looking cafe tables, and paintings every where you go. Apparently Sigmund Freud has been a frequent patron here. Even if you were to get nothing at all, just the experience of sitting here is worth your eyes absorbing. But, oh!--the cakes--and the coffees! I had me an iced coffee that had a great body mixed with a delicate flavor to give me a jolt through the day. The hazelnut cake was airy and fluffy, not at all too sweet like American desserts have a tendency to be! The staff here move efficiently, and I love how there's no pressure to hurry up and pay your bill or make your order. A repeat place to be sure if I were to go back to Vienna. My twin and I went on Sept '25 for our vacation.

The line moved pretty quickly, though, and I waited about 30 minutes. The interior is stunning. I was completely enamored with the architecture and the structure of the building. I was not overly hungry, but I wanted to try the goulash and the apple strudel. Get the strudel with the sauce. 10/10. Amazing. I would absolutely do it again.
