This was a great stop for a casual bite of authentic Austrian food! Even all the drinks are from Austria. Friendly service, HUGE portions, and great food for a reasonable price. It is self-seating and you order at the counter. The tables are high with stools. No AC and it is a HOT day, but the doors are open and the fans are going, so not intolerable.

Highly, highly recommend!! I couldn't ignore the 5 star rating on Yelp so we stopped by after watching the noon "show" of the Anker Clock, which is a minute walk away. It's small restaurant with an open kitchen and 5 bar tables. A lot of people get take out so it wasn't hard to snag a table even during the busy lunch hour. When we first talked in, we were intimidated by the German menu on the wall, but they have an English menu, too, so just ask! The menu changes, and they specialize in pork. We tried the beef/liver meatball with root vegetables soup and the roasted pork over sauerkraut with dumplings! So delicious and unique, and it felt like a home cooked meal. Hipster looking and friendly staff, techno music, and very trendy vibe, you have to stop by if you're visiting Vienna!

Cute little place we found in Austria and the thing about this place is that the menu changes, everyday I think. We tried the pork and the chicken and both were good, the pork has some of the sour cabbage which I think is a common Austrian dish. The chicken was soaked in a red sauce with sour cream, both were tasty and for the amount they gave I thought I was going to have to get a hotdog after but surprisingly I was filled. Their cider beer is a must try, it's called Zum Wohl, pretty good. A plus for this place is the staff here are traveler-friendly. They knew we were traveling so they brought out an English menu and explained the dishes they had. Recommend for travelers.

Amazing place, great experience, highly recommended! Our family of 5 has been eating out through Berlin, Krakow, Prague, and now Vienna for the past 9 days and this has been our best dining experience so far. We've eaten at places across the board from Berlin currywurst types of street food to the highest recommended local/traditional cuisines to high end Krakow steakhouses --and this little place had the most innovative food, the best cooked food, and by far the best service of all. We ordered one of everything on the menu and with drinks, it was enough for the 5 of us (sharing family style eating straight out of their Chinese takeout style boxes) and came put to something very reasonable like 50 euros. The guy that take our order was very pleasant and caring. There wasn't a table with room for five available so he went and asked a couple locals to move to a smaller table so we could sit at their larger table. Then he brought each dish out in succession with soup first, then the three entrees, and then the dessert. Service can suck in America and can REALLY suck in Europe and we were frankly flabbergasted at this extremely excellent type of service provided by an Austrian dude in a tshirt and baseball cap. Aprons and outfits don't matter; a good and pleasant attitude and high competence in culinary and service expertise does matter. Regarding the food, the garlic soup ranks in the ultimate comfort food category, the 3 entrees were varied and delicious, and the dessert was my wife's favorite. The pork was super creative (matzo ball type balls of goodness in it) and traditional (sauerkraut, pork cracklins, etc.) and familiar (reminded us of other great pork dishes of the world, like our carnitas back in Southern California) all at the same time. The dessert was both decadent with rich berry sauce and yet clearly one of the healthier desserts we had with lightly sugared pancake crumbs. I rarely write reviews and try to only write positive reviews and this one definitely qualifies. I bet we go back within the next day or two. Hopefully we'll be able to get a table!

This place is super good for college travelers (and probably everyone else too). It's very hidden and seemed like authentic Austrian food to us. We got some sort of pork dumplings and both enjoyed them- but the menu changes weekly! The Mutter Milch beer is good, and there's English speaking/ menus. Great music! Would recommend to anyone traveling here looking for a less touristy experience.

First restaurant we tried in Vienna and the food was delicious!! Small carefully prepared menu in a cosy atmosphere. Very affordable too. Highly recommend!

This is a great place for broke college students. We were a group of seven but we were there at six so it wasn't crowded and we got a good table. The menu is small but they always have at least one vegetarian option which was nice because one of us was vegetarian. The food is really good! The only regular menu item was a pulled pork dish with sauerkraut and bread dumplings. Everything else changes weekly but it was a really interesting and original menu. Also very affordable. The staff were really nice, spoke really clear english and gave us recommendations and explained everything on the menu really well. Highly recommend!

I still think about the food here and I ate here once 5 years ago. Blood sausage and roast pork were both fantastic.

Great little spot to grab a filling snack or a quick lunch and a beer. Weekly rotating menu with a staple of roast pork and dumplings.

5 rotating options, so not good for picky eaters, but food tastes amazing and the atmosphere is young and hip. The meat is done very well.

It's one of…read moreseveral restaurants under the Figlmüller restaurant group, which began in 1905 when Johann Figlmüller opened the first location - a small wine tavern right behind St. Stephen's Cathedral. It's still family-owned by the fourth generation of the Figlmüller family. We had a reservation, which I highly recommend. When we arrived, there was quite a long line outside the building, but we were able to walk right in to get seated at our reserved table. Figlmüller Bäckerstraße may be the offshoot of the original, but it still has tons of historic character. It's traditional and cozy and warm. The service was great, too - it made for a very comfortable spot. My friend and I shared: Figlmüller-Schnitzel, creamy veal goulash with spätzle, and carrot salad. We might have had a couple of glasses of wine, too. The food was all great - Viennese classics and delicious. Overall, I thought Figlmüller lived up to the hype. If you're looking for a classic spot for Viennese schnitzel, consider Figlmüller Bäckerstraße.

The place was spotless, including the bathrooms, and the staff were super friendly. What made it truly unforgettable was not just the food but also meeting new friends from Malaysia and Taiwan while waiting in line. They had a reservation (we didn't!) and invited us to join them. Strangers from opposite sides of the world sharing an amazing Viennese meal, stories, and laughs. Proof that good food really does bring people together.

I stayed at a nearby hotel and when I told the concierge I went here for schnitzel. He stated that,…read moreas a local, this wouldn't be his first preference and seemed to respectfully imply that I had expensive taste (but did say it was a good spot). I should've responded, "I'm a tourist, so yes, I do have expensive taste." (not quoting some Icelandic-Chinese singer or anything, of course) While I know that their Tafelspitz is their signature, I wanted some schnitzel. However, I ordered a bowl of the broth the beef was cooked in, which also comes with root vegetables. Surprisingly (or not), this was the best part of the dinner. The broth's depth of flavor is apparent and it's so savory. The broth is also clean and clear. This was definitely one of the best broths I've had and this alone puts the restaurant at a 5. I went for the schnitzel and got suckered into getting the potato salad. The salad was fine; a little tangy, with the potatoes keeping their definition. However, it's nothing amazing. The schnitzel is super-thin and breading is nicely browned. The veal is rather tender, but you need the lemon to "wake-up" the schnitzel. The bread basket was a bit diverse and the selections were fine. I thought the wheat roll was the best of the choices. The apricot juice was really thick, so it definitely appeared to be legit juice. My server was pretty friendly for Vienna and actually did a little bit a conversation. The decor is classy but not stuffy. Plenty of folks came in with smart casual but also some were more dressed up.

*******READ FINE PRINT ON MENU*********…read more I have issues with this place. My review will not change the trajectory of how this place operates. However, it is unlike any place in the world I have ever visited. We were seated at a table that was meant for 6 people and got taken down to two people as there was another couple sitting there. The place for lunch was absolutely slammed, so it is obviously a popular spot. Without asking, they drop bread off at the table. With a place of this atmosphere it was expected, as this is what I would expect out of a finer food establishment. The schnitzel was very light and had plenty of flavor. No other sides came with the schnitzel so I had the potato salad which was good, but different. The beef stroganoff did have an immense amount of flavor. They lacked the very small amount of noodles that are given with this dish. The fastest uninterrupted service we got was when I waited and finally asked for the check. They were quick to give me a dessert/after food drink menu. They were quick to be on top of me to see if I wanted anything. I declined and paid the bill. What I will tell you is, that is completely OUTRAGEOUS is the charge listed as 2 - Gedeck. A quick review told me that it is a "Cover Charge" at a euro rate of 4.90 per person. A further Google review told me that it is also because they placed bread on the table (I do not know what is factual). Regardless of whatever the charge is or whatever they want to call it, I have never ever ever paid a "Cover Charge/Gedek" charge to occupy a restaurant. If this was a late night spot that I decided to pop bottles at or had "dancers" at the business, I could get there, but for a sit down lunch, what a complete utter rip off. This in itself would cause me never to return to this establishment. Make sure if you eat here, that you read the fine print or look at my pictures. They have very small print that notifies the consumer of them charging cover charge as well as what they charge for sharing of some dishes. All I can say is be mindful and do not be taken back like we were when the bill comes.
