    Table bread and paprika spread
    Isabella T.

We came to Griechenbeisl for dinner on a Sunday a little after 7pm without a reservation and were able to get a table outdoors (as most places here, there is always outdoor and indoor seating) but we wanted a view of the street and opted for that. The ambiance was very relaxed and the service was attentive. Our server brought us some table bread which was very fresh with a paprika spread while we thought about what drinks and food to order. We got two glasses of white wine which were very good and refreshing. For food we split got: - Smoked duck appetizer: delicious! Really thinly sliced yet flavorful and tender pieces of smoked duck that come with some orange slices and an apple salad that was really similar to coleslaw. Loved the combination of the smoky duck and sweet apple. Really nice presentation. - Fries: very solid thick cut fries! Not greasy and perfectly salted. We purposefully got this with our appetizer round instead of as a side with our main meal. The fries went very well with the salad from the dish above. - Beef goulash: my boyfriend ordered this and it was very generously sized. Really tender meat and a nice flavor of paprika and onions mixed with the meat juices. It came with a dumpling like patty that tasted a little bit like corn and really helped soak up all the sauce. Very comforting and filling dish! - Chicken breast with arugula salad: I got this chicken really expecting a large portion of chicken over a small base of arugula but turned out being more like a salad instead, which was overall good, but I would order something else next time like the schnitzel-- which looked delicious by the way-- to get a better sense of the local cuisine. Felt really light and healthy though if that's what you are looking for! Overall very good service and solid food. The location is lowkey but has a really nice ambiance, especially outside near the street. Stumbled upon this place but really happy we did! Would come back again for a relaxed dinner in Vienna.

    Oldest restaurant in Vienna

Yelp Review 2023 #7: Revered as Vienna's oldest restaurant does not equate greatness. I've been to really old restaurants that also had fantastic food. Griechenbeisl was just ok BUT when everything in Vienna is fully booked on Christmas months in advance - any hot meal at a restaurant will do and for that I'm grateful for this place. I made a reservation here 2 months in advance. And sure enough, people with no reservations came here hoping to snag a table - but they had to wait. We arrived 2 hours earlier than our reserved time but they gave us a table anyway. THANK YOU!!! The place does look its age and it's quirky. Google Maps told us we've already arrived - we weeks confused. "It looks like gaudy restaurant that tour groups take you to." So, we kept walking back and forth looking for Griechenbeisl. We went to the side of the door that looks like an entrance but isn't. We were greeted by the friendly host. I told him we were 2 hours but we're hungry. He showed us to our table. All the servers were friendly. The menu is limited. A few soups, appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts. They'll give you a basket of semi-warm bread and pepper cream cheese (like pimiento). We got a pumpkin soup, Wiener schnitzel, pork shoulder that comes with a side of sauerkraut. After being in the Middle East where pork isn't available, I was so happy about that crispy pork shoulder. We skipped dessert. I had specific places bookmarked for that. Overall, the food was alright. The friendliness happens in the beginning and I feel like we waited a long time to place our order, ask for water, and another round of drinks. A 2-course dinner that lasted almost 2 hours. The tables are really close to each other so, it does feel cramped in there and it gets loud. They have a few dining areas.

The schnitzel here is supposed to be some of the best. It was huge which was nice. I think the bread could be slightly thinner and crispier but it was still pretty good.

Tucked away off the beaten path, find this traditional and authentic Viennese restaurant and bar, serving since 1447! Enjoyed a deliciously classic Wienerschniztel meal! There are several menu choices for dinners, apps and more. Overall, solid 4.0+ rating for excellent food quality, efficient service and simple ambience (we sat upstairs since not having a reservation). Expect to pay $20-25euro for entrees. Today we started with Alt Wiener Souppentopf (Viennese soup pot for 2); served hot, this hearty broth was filled with diced meat, spaghetti and some veggies. It was a good start on a cool fall-like day. We opted for this knowing we'd get our fill with Wienerschnitzel dinner, which we shared given the generous portion size. Oh what a treat to get one of the classic dishes served in a landmark restaurant! The meat was very thin and tender, breaded and cooked just right - excellent meal! It was served with a simple potato field salad, a nice compliment to the entree. Of course we had to have a cold bier to go with our meal, but they also had plenty of wine choices if desired. Definitely a hidden gem you might not find if only searching or walking the main thoroughfares, but totally worth checking out for a traditional Viennese meal! And remember to drop some coins for Augustin! Enjoy!!

    Fine dining in Vienna.

Prompt seating in a very nice restraint with excellent service and attention. The food was authentic Austrian as well as the spirits. Gave you a real feel of Vienna while dining. Loved the ambiance and vibe of the restraint, deserving of one of the oldest Inns/Pub restaurants in the city.

Staff was very kind and funny. The Wienerschnitzel lives up to its reputation! The atmosphere was nice and fun as well.

Griechenbeisl was AMAZING!!!! I was solo and didn't have any reservation, but super luckily I could have the dinner in the Mark Twain room under the Beethoven's signature on the ceiling (and other historical, phenomenal people's signs like Mozart, Schubert, Egon Shile) . The waiter and host were both soo friendly and happily pointed the signature for me with the long stick if you ask where a specific signature is. And the schnitzel was crispy and fresh, too. The complimentary bread and butter were not worthy to fill your stomach though. But the entire experience was just dreamy and I would definitely come back here!!! I just can't thank enough to this place for existing !

Excellent experience! Neat decor and location. The beef tar tar was great as a starter. Loved the viewer schnitzel...perfectly done. You must get the strudel for dessert...the best I've had! The ambiance was elevated with the live musician in our room.

Nice restaurant in a medieval building . I believe that the location and ambiance are the main attractions but we also loved the food . The best options is likely their schnitzel

We had reservations for a Monday night in May which we did not need. Yes, it is a bit touristy but how often do you get to eat at a restaurant that was established in 1447? A place where Beethoven and Mozart have dined. It isn't a far walk from Stephanslatz and they have a very nice patio. The servers were friendly and food arrived quickly. I had the salmon with beet risotto and my husband had the schweinemedalions. Both of our meals were very good. We finished with the seasonal rhubarb strawberry tiramisu which was a sweet and sour treat.

What can one say of a restaurant founded in 1447 where such luminaries as Strauss, Shubert, Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Wagner, Brahms, famous writers, Einstein and even Mark Twain have dined. We made a reservation in advance and the restaurant was very efficient in communicating by email. When we checked in everything was in place and ready for us. There's a myriad of rooms so finding the entry can be a little confusing. Walk down the vaulted alley to the reception counter. Service was very professional and matter of fact. There was definitely a tone of pleasing us. We ordered a top notch white Austrian wine and it was delicious, a Gruner Vetliner. Austria has some good red wines too and this would be the restaurant to try one. We both had soups. Being Fall there were a number of pumpkin options so I had a thick and rich pumpkin soup and my dining companion had the rich thick goulash soup. Both were incredible. I then went on to the ever ubiquitous Weiner Schnitzel. It was enormous and barely fit the plate. Coming with lemon to squeeze as one likes, it was perfectly made and delicious. The decor is traditional Austrian and cozy, warm. It was an expensive meal but worth it.

Classic Vienna experience in a beautiful location! Yes, very touristy, but excellent none the less! Food wonderful, service excellent, atmosphere beautiful! Very happy we went!

Liked the decor. Friendly staff, and food arrived fast. Not sure whether this is a touristy place or not we enjoyed the food. Got goulash and Wiener schnitzel.

It's still family-owned by the fourth generation of the Figlmüller family. We had a reservation, which I highly recommend. When we arrived, there was quite a long line outside the building, but we were able to walk right in to get seated at our reserved table. Figlmüller Bäckerstraße may be the offshoot of the original, but it still has tons of historic character. It's traditional and cozy and warm. The service was great, too - it made for a very comfortable spot. My friend and I shared: Figlmüller-Schnitzel, creamy veal goulash with spätzle, and carrot salad. We might have had a couple of glasses of wine, too. The food was all great - Viennese classics and delicious. Overall, I thought Figlmüller lived up to the hype. *******READ FINE PRINT ON MENU*********…read more I have issues with this place. My review will not change the trajectory of how this place operates. However, it is unlike any place in the world I have ever visited. We were seated at a table that was meant for 6 people and got taken down to two people as there was another couple sitting there. The place for lunch was absolutely slammed, so it is obviously a popular spot. Without asking, they drop bread off at the table. With a place of this atmosphere it was expected, as this is what I would expect out of a finer food establishment. The schnitzel was very light and had plenty of flavor. No other sides came with the schnitzel so I had the potato salad which was good, but different. The beef stroganoff did have an immense amount of flavor. They lacked the very small amount of noodles that are given with this dish. The fastest uninterrupted service we got was when I waited and finally asked for the check. They were quick to give me a dessert/after food drink menu. They were quick to be on top of me to see if I wanted anything. I declined and paid the bill. What I will tell you is, that is completely OUTRAGEOUS is the charge listed as 2 - Gedeck. A quick review told me that it is a "Cover Charge" at a euro rate of 4.90 per person. A further Google review told me that it is also because they placed bread on the table (I do not know what is factual). Regardless of whatever the charge is or whatever they want to call it, I have never ever ever paid a "Cover Charge/Gedek" charge to occupy a restaurant. If this was a late night spot that I decided to pop bottles at or had "dancers" at the business, I could get there, but for a sit down lunch, what a complete utter rip off. This in itself would cause me never to return to this establishment. Make sure if you eat here, that you read the fine print or look at my pictures. They have very small print that notifies the consumer of them charging cover charge as well as what they charge for sharing of some dishes. All I can say is be mindful and do not be taken back like we were when the bill comes.

I stayed at a nearby hotel and when I told the concierge I went here for schnitzel. He stated that,…read moreas a local, this wouldn't be his first preference and seemed to respectfully imply that I had expensive taste (but did say it was a good spot). I should've responded, "I'm a tourist, so yes, I do have expensive taste." (not quoting some Icelandic-Chinese singer or anything, of course) While I know that their Tafelspitz is their signature, I wanted some schnitzel. However, I ordered a bowl of the broth the beef was cooked in, which also comes with root vegetables. Surprisingly (or not), this was the best part of the dinner. The broth's depth of flavor is apparent and it's so savory. The broth is also clean and clear. This was definitely one of the best broths I've had and this alone puts the restaurant at a 5. I went for the schnitzel and got suckered into getting the potato salad. The salad was fine; a little tangy, with the potatoes keeping their definition. However, it's nothing amazing. The schnitzel is super-thin and breading is nicely browned. The veal is rather tender, but you need the lemon to "wake-up" the schnitzel. The bread basket was a bit diverse and the selections were fine. I thought the wheat roll was the best of the choices. The apricot juice was really thick, so it definitely appeared to be legit juice. My server was pretty friendly for Vienna and actually did a little bit a conversation. The decor is classy but not stuffy. Plenty of folks came in with smart casual but also some were more dressed up.
