Great Austrian restaurant. Glad we made a booking in advance. Arrived right on time and were immediately seated. Only complaint was we felt like we were sitting in the tourist section. We ordered the Sliced of Pork Filet in a pepper sauce served with potatoes croquettes and the Wiener Schnitzel with parsley potatoes. Both dishes were very good. We were looking for an authentic Austrian meal, and after searching reviews, we settled on Purstner. We are so glad that we did! It was one of our favorite restaurants of our trip. Call ahead for reservations as they require them, but don't let that deter you. I was able to call 30 min prior and got in just fine. That there is absolutely no need to order bottled water in Austria! Not only, but we were traveling for 18 days, eating two to three meals a day out, so we tried to save money where we could. I think that sometimes restaurants are not thinking that travelers are eating out so much, so we are not always going to splurge at every meal! They are thinking, ' These people are being cheap! While I read reviews on trip advisor which stated the restaurant was racist and turned down multiple reservations with people of asians heritage.. we still attempted to dine here. One of the things I hated most about traveling by myself in Europe was the fact that I had to eat by myself, which would often result in me being tucked away in an unassuming corner, receiving lackluster service, or being stared at. As a result, I had a tendency to avoid eating in super popular restaurants or just skimping by on fast food. However, on my last night in Vienna, I was feeling tired and a little lonely, so I decided to just go and treat myself somewhere nice. I decided upon Pürstner, which was not only recommended on TripAdvisor (I wasn't a huge Yelper at the time), but it was also on a Chinese list sent to me by my parents. I have to say I was quite pleased with the choice. When I arrived, there was actually no wait at all. The servers were friendly, and asked me if I wanted to be seated at the bar or the table. I ended up seated in a small table, which was perfect for a single person. I ordered the spare ribs, which were a super reasonable price. Plus I was shocked when they carried out a huge platter filled with potatoes and a whole rack of ribs. I wasn't expecting that much food, especially since I'm this pretty small Asian girl who really doesn't eat much. I think the people sitting around me, especially the couple sitting across from me, were also pretty surprised because they kept glancing at me throughout my meal. I think I impressed everyone, including myself, when I polished off half off the meat. I guess it was just that delicious. My one small complaint about the experience happened when I was finished with my meal. Now understandably I think that people usually don't take their leftovers to go, but the server was definitely a little too unprepared when I asked to do so. After all, there was still an entire rack of ribs left that I didn't want to go to waste, as well as some delicious potatoes that I was looking forward to eating. Unfortunately, all they gave me was the leftover ribs wrapped up in aluminum foil. Overall, this place has left me with a memorable experience that I still talk and laugh about with friends and family. Yet another place I went to both times I've been to Vienna a year apart. I wanted to bring my parents here because of the interesting decorations and good food. We really enjoyed our calf schnitzel, goulash, and some dish made out of blood and potatoes. The service was pretty good, but I'm pretty sure our server was dying to go home (I don't blame him, we left 10 min before closing time and we were the only customers left). I have been here over three dozen times in the last twenty years and it has been consistent. The wait staff is always pleasant and the atmosphere is the traditional Austria. Came here on our first night in Vienna. I'd say make a recommendation if you want to get a reasonable seating time (honestly, do this at any moderately popular place in Vienna). We had the cordon bleu and spareribs. The cordon bleu was just schnitzel with cheese, and the cheese wasn't melted which was kind of weird. The spareribs were absolutely amazing. The taste was on point and the size made me feel like I truly ate a pig's worth of ribs. I saw locals in the restaurant also attacking the ribs without finishing them all. We noticed that Purstner also let customers take their extra food home (wrap it up in foil and bag it). Definitely try this place out! read more

The atmosphere of this place reminds you of a cozy 100-year old hunting lodge in the alps. Service and food are very good, and they have English menus. I had a good dark local beer, and pork medallions in a blue cheese cream sauce with spinach spaeztle. Finished with their home made apple struedel. Very yummy. read more

We (my fiance, myself & his fifteen year old daughter) arrived without a reservation & they found us a table anyway. Our waiter was incredibly charming, patient, efficient & fun. The atmosphere is great... no end of things to look at. Prices are very reasonable & portions are excellent, even if you're famished. The small order of ribs is big (enough for two of us)... can't imagine how big the large ribs must be... & perfectly prepared (moist & tender) with a really tasty dry rub. Everything we ordered was very well prepared & seasoned perfectly. We tried all of the homemade schnapps & were pleased as well.
