This first part of the review is an edit to my review I wrote earlier. I confess: I actually forgot that I took pictures of my delicous food. Oh good. Food dreams can be restored in future nights to come. I guess I just did not care what anyone thought. I took pics anyway. I just thought I was being sensitive to other patrons. Let's just say I tried to not be too obnoxious about it. So, yes I did consume with my camera first! I can say with absolute certainty, that this was our most perfect and intimate dining experience in Vienna. It was just lunch! The surrounding patrons appeared to be locals with huge platters of piping hot Wienerschnitzel, succulent looking meat falling off the bone....oh my, I could go on and on. Lord help me, that was a great experience. I ordered an exquisite Riesling that was perfect with my meal. I ordered the Goose Soup to start with. I shake my head now in disbelief of how perfect this soup was and LUSCIOUS. It had this potato dumpling in the middle that absorbed the creamy broth with every single bite. I was sad to see the dumpling and soup go away as I savored every spoonful. My husband had a potato soup that included mushrooms and he was pretty much freaking out about his soup as much as I was (in his own, subdued, calm manner....opposite mine!). Then Meine Damen und Herren. We have the Weinerschnitzel. Oh my goodness. We split the massive and simply prepared veal weinerschnitzel with the lemon wedge squeezing the only and perfect seasoning you need for this deliciousness in front of you. I cannot even express the greatness of the potato salad that accompanies. Smooth and creamy mustardy goodness. I would seek out this restaurant again. If every authentic Keller type dining experience is this good in Vienna; I am in big trouble! read more

This was my favorite restaurant I ate at during my 3 day trip to Vienna. We stumbled upon it during our walk from one of the train stations to the city center. It had an extremely authentic feel (full of old guys drinking beer, which I took as a good sign). I got the goose soup, which was incredible. My friend got the goose dumplings and likewise thought they were exceptional. They were beautifully plated, and the meat was very tender. We finished off with some delicious apple strudel. I recently dined at this restaurant in Vienna and unfortunately had a disappointing experience with the service. Despite making a reservation and being told we needed to vacate the table by 8:45, our food arrived very late and we felt rushed from the moment we started eating. Staff were clearly pressuring us to finish quickly, and they even brought the check before we were halfway done. Additionally, we were repeatedly asked to leave a tip, even though the service did not warrant it. While I understand tipping is customary, it felt inappropriate given how we were treated. Unfortunately, this left us with a very negative impression of the overall experience. read more

This was our favorite meal during our entire 2 and a half week vacation in Europe! The wiener schnitzel was phenomenal! I also greatly enjoyed the wild boar, along with a few other items. Wonderful authentic Vienna restaurant. I believe it is one of the oldest in Vienna. Very nice patio and inside is like in a movie! We came for lunch on the patio (with no reservations, no problem) and came back for dinner (and made a reservation). The schnitzel was delicious and huge, the wild boar was good/authentic and the steak tartare was excellent. You just have to remember that unlike North America, they are not trying to rush you. We are from the USA traveled through Austria, ending our trip in Vienna. I am a foodie and like to experience the culture of food wherever I go My spouse not so much so I have to find balance while traveling We happened upon Gmoa Keller after a long day of sight seeing and ended up on their steps. We were warmly greeted and had no reservations. We were accommodated. We had great service and great food. I had booked beef with all the sides potatoes spinach' which was amazing. Then of course strudel. It was great a nice ending to our vacation. I'd highly recommend eating here it's authentic and I'd recommend reservations. We got really lucky. Came to Gmoa Keller one night for a late dinner at around 9:30. It was conveniently located right by our hotel, the Hotel AM Konzerthaus. Since I wasn't that hungry, I went with the small beef goulash, and it was enough. I wasn't a huge fan of it as the beef was a bit tough. I tried a piece of my friend's dish, the schnitzel and that was a much better choice. Tip - try a glass of the zweigelt (Austrian red wine). It goes down very smoothly. read more

what a menu we have for New Year's Eve, food was excellent, the quality of service great and the ambiance so nice. I really recommended this Austrian Restaurant, we went also in a week day and the schnitzel OMG perfect and generous. We want to get back as soon that we are coming back to Vienna. As one of the oldest restaurants in Vienna we were recommended a visit by our BNB hostess to Gmoa Keller for traditional-recipe dinner. We appreciated that they cordially squeezed us in the darkly-wooded "hunting lodge" back room to eat without a reservation before the late evening crowd really started to pack in. (Reservations for evening meals in Vienna are definitely a good strategy if possible.) We liked everything we tried: The kidneys were richly-sauced and a welcome change of texture to usual meat dishes. The tender beef gulasch was a deeply-spiced paprika-and-aromatics epiphany. (Our experience with American casserole hot dish-style goulash as children is not a pleasant memory.) And a very nice surprise to get to discover tangy Austrian-style potato salad alongside the veal schnitzel. Plus, of course, scrumptious beers abound on this side of the world. This place is quite close to the Intercontinental and was highly recommended by the concierge. I ordered the breaded chicken with the side of salad and potatoes. It was quite well executed, and the chicken was juicy inside. Salad was fresh and complemented the main quite nicely. Staff were great. This place appears to get packed for dinner. read more

Based upon an Austrian citizens recommendation, we tried game Keller for dinner on a Monday evening. At 6:00pm, without a reservation, we were able to get a table....but, all the other tables were either taken or reserved. Menu given to us was in German; my wife asked for an English menu and it was presented quickly. Food was good; I had Weimer Schnitzel (I.e., filled the entire plate), my wife had schnitzel nature. With two entries, two glasses of wine, bottle of still water and a shared Appel strudel, the bill was fifty euros. Good vale for money. For a cold evening during the Christmas season in Vienna, Gmoa Keller was a very welcoming and warm place to be. read more

Schitzel was average. Potato salad was too juicy, and there was too much dressing in it. Service was good. Waiters were all polite, friendly and fast. Inside ambiance is good, but I seated outside. Outside seats do not have a different theme. read more

This was a great experience. We were tired travelers who had just checked in across the street at the Intercontinental, and we wanted some traditional Viennese food. Perfect! We arrived at Gmoa Keller without a reservation, but they graciously slipped us in to the schedule after inquiring how long we intended to stay. NOT LONG! We need to go to bed. Our server was fun and attentive. And it was an interesting location - there was a little pamphlet on the table recounting the history of the building. I ordered the schnitzel and potato salad, and my husband got the beef gulyas. Both were fantastic! That beef was so tender! And we just had to order the apple strudel for dessert. If you want authentic, fantastic Austrian food at incredible value for money, a true Viennese clientele and discrete yet prompt service - I think you might like Gmoa Keller. Schnitzel is second to none. It is wafer thin and crispy like no other, all bubbled. While the schnitzel and potato salad were quite delicious, I'll have to say that the service was average considering that they were not even busy that afternoon. We had one person take our order, another brought our food, and a third gave us our bill. What surprised me the most was the third person who brought the bill asked if I would like to leave a tip? Really? Since when do you ask if anyone would like to leave a tip? Perhaps because he knew I wasn't a local but I know that tipping is always optional in Europe. Gayle and I had dinner here on our last evening in Vienna. Gmoa Keller was an easy walk from our hotel and is also close to the Symphony Hall. It's popular too, with mostly locals and families. In fact, we were told to come back after showing up the first time to a full house. We were seated near the front on our second try and enjoyed watching 2 couples across from us in traditional dress. The sauted mushrooms, schnitzel, and sausages were fabulous. Great service too! We still talk about this place as one of our culinary/cultural highlights of our stay in Vienna. read more

The service at Gmoa Keller is very prompt. Beef Goulash is the show stopper-well cooked, and very flavorful. Bread with bone marrow and chive is something which which we tried for the first time. The GmoaKeller is a true Viennese classic, All the good things people have said and written about it are true. Founded in 1858, it is still serving great food and beer. History (truth or legend) has it that Crown Prince Rudolf used to party here and he def knew the best places in Vienna to go for a good time. Now the best news of all - the food. The cream of pumpkin soup with a polenta Knödel is maybe the tastiest soup I have ever eaten in my life. No lie! It is that awesome good. The potato and sheep cheese strudel also really hit the spot and it came with a nice side of creamed spinach. The desert apple strudel was well-made and fresh. Of course the atmosphere is Old Vienna except they've tweaked it a little bit - especially with a large modern-art wall mural in the back dining room. The service was friendly and competent. The only problem was that they only had a portable credit card machine and they said that it wasn't working. That made for a little embarrassing situation for the person paying as she had to borrow money from me. Come on - it's the 21st century. Have a credit card machine that is operable! (For that gaffe, I took a star away.) Now for a real tip on eating here: The GmoaKeller is directly across the street from both the Konzerthaus and the Akadamie Theater. Before and after the evening performances at these cultural venues, it gets really, really crowded. However if you go around 19:30, you'll have your choice of tables and the full attention of the wait staff. And don't forget, if it's Autumn and the Cream of Pumpkin soup is on the menu, order it. Tucked in a low corner near the Vienesse city park, you'll find a lovely spot to grub down. Gmoa Keller gives you great Wiener cuisine at reasonable prices with a cozy atmosphere, only question is; do you want typical or adventurous? At the Keller you'll have options for both, as far as this writer has witnessed. You want Veal Snitzel? Done, easy, too easy maybe. Maybe you want some more delicate parts of the Kalbfleisch, again you'll get more options then you may be prepared for. Don't worry, friendly and discrete staff are in the vincitiy to assist you. Just pop by for lunch if you dont have a reservation, this place fills up. My only gripe is I didn't snap photos before I dove in to a delicious veal liver goulash. Oh well, I suppose we'll have to return to this viennese treasure. read more

This is by far the best food we've had in Vienna during the 3+ years we've lived here. We've tried a variety of dishes and almost all of them have been fantastic. The only exception being their version of Tafelspitz which was good, but not great. But I'm not a huge fan of Tafelspitz anyway. I'm not sure what the Emporer saw in that dish. The rumor is that this place was owned by two crotchety old ladies for a long time so it had terrible service. They must have changed ownership though because the service was fine. About par for Vienna (which isn't great, but that's what you get here - no it's not your imagination that the servers sometimes act as if you are totally inconveniencing them to be there). But to finish on a high note, the food here is excellent. Highly recommended! read more

Really enjoyed the atmosphere at Gmoa Keller. It is a historical hotel with a nice feel to it and great food. The location is great, whether you are in the center of town or just outside to the east. From it's location I can imagine the terrace would also be great in the summertime. For the meal I had to try schnitzel since it had been a while for me. I can say that I've had better schnitzel before but this one was quite good. Their potato salad is typical with this meal and tasted good itself. Along with it we had some house wine which was also good. After the wine I switched back to beer which was also house made I believe they said and had a slightly bitter flavor. The service was there with a smile and both servers we had were helpful with the menu. Their English was also good along with the menu being in English which helped us tourists :) Will go back I'm sure when I'm in Vienna again. read more

Excellent Austrian food with good service to boot at a reasonable price. I wandered in on a Friday evening, after a table for one on the back of a yelp recommendation. Greeted instantly and found a table not long thereafter. A little delayed in getting a menu (note the English menu is less comprehensive than the German) but it and a Pils soon followed. Somewhat lacking in imagination I had a terrible to start followed by the schnitzel (when in Rome etc.) which was the size of a small child. An exceptional meal. We had the potato soup and spicy sausage with mustard and horseradish as a starter, and the veal schnitzel for main. Easily the best soup and schnitzel we have had over a week traveling around Austria. Only disappointment was that we were so full that we couldn't order dessert. This place was right around the corner from our hotel, and highly recommended by many sources. After a spectacular meal here, I can understand why! The Weiner Schnitzel and accompanying potato salad were AMAZING, but the appetizers we shared and the potato strudel (potato strudel?!? Yes POTATO STRUDEL!) my wife ordered were absolute show stoppers! Excellent atmosphere (we ate downstairs in what appeared to have been a former wine cellar), extremely attentive and accommodating service, and the world class food you would expect in Wien. The massive veal cutlet in gravy with rice was cooked well done and had wonderful flavoring. The Austrian draft beer was refreshing on a sunny day. This is a nice neighborhood find. Many local patrons and several regulars give this a home town feel. There were several gatherings around us including birthday celebrations. The menu is traditional Viennese favorites. I had the potato soup to start and the boiled beef with root vegetables, roasted potatoes and creamed spinach. All were tasty and the portions were generous. My husband had sautéed veal with rice and gravy which he also enjoyed. We completed our meal with a delicious apple strudel. Great lunch! In quickly skimming through their reviews, the only negative one I saw was some guy bitching because he got bottled water when he asked for tap water. ‍ What's next..no free refills? Even though we didn't have a lunch reservation, we were quickly seated. The service was quick and friendly, and the food was excellent. The place was mainly filled with locals.
