Famous Imperial Torte - yummy - just the right size
    Lun ..

Delicious meal and very authentic. I never knew Vienna is the origin of the Schnitzel. The schnitzel was so crispy light fluffy and the meat good quality - so yummy. Their salad and vegetable dishes are so flavorful and delicious. I also enjoyed their Famous Imperial Torte - just the right size. The decor could use some freshening up as it does not have the ambience that aligns with the menu prices. For the food I will return.

Located in the former home of the Prince of Württemberg, now Hotel Imperial, Café Imperial Wien reminisces of days past when the likes of Arnold Schönberg and Johannes Brahms made their way over from the Vienna State Opera for Coffee and Cake. Favored by Austria's "Wiener Melange" since 1873, the sort of place where foreign visitors and locals equally inhabit seats formerly filled by Sigmund Freud, Breakfast can be ordered Buffet or a la Carte with each well-priced considering both attentive service and refined environs. Home to an on-site Bakery, their primary business producing three varieties of Imperial Torte, Breads and Charcuterie are on par with other historic Hotels throughout Europe while both Gugelhupf and "The Original" are noteworthy, the former thanks to density and moisture while the eponymous Torte delicately balances soft Chocolate Cream between razor-thin Almonds, Marzipan and Imperial Icing.

Service was great and definitely a classy experience! We were traveling and a relative suggested us to try Cafe Imperial during our visit to Vienna. We ordered their Viennese delicacies & Viennese Sausage for lunch it was quite filling. The Viennese delicacies is a perfect dish for those who like to try a bit of all their traditional foods on one plate (given its dish name) and the breaded veal & chicken was fried to perfection! The viennese sausage dish was alright but a bit simple for the price with only two sausages with a condiments on the side, not much presentation. Then comes the desserts! Vienna is famous for having lots of creativity with their desserts and We ordered their Coupe "Ringstraße"(3 scoops ice cream bowl with fresh berries) and their N°2 Imperial Torte SCHWARZE ORANGE (a very rich chocolate cake with candied orange). The desserts were definitely more outstanding & the overall dining experience was very enjoyable! Will come here again the next time we visit Vienna!

Kind of famous place. We enjoyed the place and food here. We got there early that day, there were long line at the door when we are done.

Very elegant. Beautiful decor, great service. We were here for dessert and coffee and all the treats varied from very good to great. Absolutely gorgeous treats, worthy of a video I posted online to make my friends jealous. Reasonably priced for what you get and a bargain for this level of ambience.

    Tea service.

Selection for breakfast was amazing. Atmosphere. But service was the best. Absolutely a must during your visit to Vienna.

With those thoughts in mind then I can only be thinking of the good old Cafe Rüdigerhof. This is one of the best chill spots in Vienna .... well actually maybe in all of Central Europe. When you think of Vienna ... and being in a cool-looking place with atmosphere .... and talking with friends ... and enjoying some tasty food and a good beer or wine ...just totally chilling - the Rüdigerhof is made to order. The Rüdigerhof has both an inviting interior and a super Schanigarten for warmer days & nights. The building it is located in is a Jugendstil landmark by the architect Oskar Marmorek. And then there's the food - a selection of tasty dishes from the classic Viennese Cookbook at very reasonable prices. I especially love to go there in the winter and get a warming Gulasch soup. There are rooms for smokers and non-smokers. The smoking room is the best because everyone stays late in this room and it has more of a buzz. It just feels more like a Viennese café. The non-smoking room is not bad - it's just smaller and not as cool. Anyway, I'm lucky that Café Rüdigerhof is so close to where I live. Everyone should have such a place in their neighborhood!

One thing my wife and daughter wanted to do in Vienna was to try the local cake, the Sachertorte…read more There are a few apparently famous venues for this (and a slew of other places too). Gerstner is a long-standing bakery with a few locations (including at the former summer palace). They had a shop relatively near our hotel, so we stopped in early during the trip. If you are facing the State Opera House, Gerstner's is on the right across the street. Note that there is also some as or more famous outlet for cakes behind the Opera House also, but they appeared to have a line when we walked by. At Gerstner's you enter at street level where they have a dessert counter with displays. You can get a slice to go here. However, if you want more of the full experience, you can go upstairs (they have an elevator as well). A wide curving staircase gets you to the rather small 2nd level (the first floor, in local parlance). There are some tables here, but it has the air of a bookstore coffee shop. We opted to continue up to the next floor. Here, there is a dark hallway where you approach the host stand. There was one couple ahead of us and they got seated quickly. I think they had a bar as well as dining, so they ask which you want. We just wanted dessert, so they walked us past the bar. This floor has high ceilings and palace-like decoration. The vibe is definitely 'special' but they don't charge extortionate rates for it, which was nice. We were shown to a small table in the main dining room. I think you could see part of the Opera House out of the open windows. Two of us got coffees and we all split a Sachertorte. We enjoyed it, but everyone agreed that it was a bit dry. Maybe the Viennese don't go for moist cakes. They do have other items on the menu and I think you can get a regular meal here (schnitzel, salads, etc.). However, we visited around 2:30 p.m. on a weekday, so we just wanted the cake. The bill was reasonable, and we all agreed that this was a worthwhile experience.
