Landtmann's Original Guglhupf. Must try it.

Great place for rest when you just arrived Vienna and got tickets in nearby Vienna Visiting center. Nice breakfast.

    Main room

First went there and 1988, and it only gets better. In the old days, you could smoke throughout the café indoors, then half the room was permitted to smoke, the nowhere, thank goodness. And modern science/the end of denial. The bathroom is pristine, and perhaps get the all-time best smelling men's room in a public area on the planet. The service was excellent and friendly - not overly friendly, but just right. I had my coffee with whole cream, and a lovely hour at an old haunt.

Goulash and traditional style soup (I can't remember the name).

This is a traditional style Viennese cafe. The decor is really ornate and dated, in a positive way. You have a selection of cakes and food available. We went for some goulash, a traditional style soup and a sausage platter. Followed by cake, of course. The goulash and traditional style soup were good. Pretty interesting and not what I am used to. The sausage platter was also interesting. It was served with a mustard, horseradish, pickles and bread. I enjoyed the platter, it was an interesting combo. This time I went for the Mozart torte, which was a really delicious light and fluffy cake. We had not problem getting a table. Tip: CASH ONLY!

Warm Apple strudel, Sacher Torte, Schoko-ccuino

The service was good. The Sacher Torte was a little dry but came with a healthy serving of cream. I would particularly recommend the warm apple strudel with vanilla sauce. The Schoko-ccino tasted alright but probably wouldn't get again. Overall, these dishes we're heavy on the stomach and the service was good.

We had to pull a second table over because we couldn't fit everything!

Jacob's Gist: This is THE PLACE to go in Vienna but with great expectations comes great responsibility. =============== Throughout my journeys in Europe, it became increasingly easy to realize a touristy restaurant from a more local one. While Cafe Museum screams tourist destination, people constantly recommended it- even the more local crowd. Both times I came to Cafe Museum, I only ordered a drink and dessert (isn't that all anyone ever needs?). While the drinks were great both times I went, I found that the main pull to Cafe Museum- the desserts- were just good. There's nothing about them that necessarily stood out to me- which shouldn't be the case when you're at a place people say is one of the best in the city. I found myself thinking "am I missing something?". While the food was a little less than what I was expecting, the decoration and service were both great. Our waiter was fantastic and helped us move tables to accommodate our group. The decoration inside was incredibly grand and made our group feel as if we were living in the lap of luxury (oh how I wish). Long story short, I would definitely give Cafe Museum a shot for the service, decoration, and drinks alone. Beyond that though, Cafe Museum falls short in the most important field in anyone's mind: dessert.

    Weiner Melange

A good wake-up call We were starting to crash after flying all night, so we stopped in to sit and get some coffee. I picked a good one called Weiner Melange, a half coffee half espresso drink with lots of foam. That has helped keep me up so we can beat the jet lag in just one day. The coffee had a bold taste. The coffee also came with a small glass of water, on a silver try. I thought that looked way cool and wondered if that was sort of standard presentation in Vienna. I hope to know the answer before we leave. Having just arrived, I'm in no way adjusted to the style of service to expect in Vienna. Applying American standards, I found it polite but not warm, our server professional in appearance. I knew to ask for the bill (it is not a cheque) but had difficulty making eye contact to make the request. We got through it without being held up much and were back exploring the city.

Been walking all day and was just going to get a quick drink and go.....the vibe was so good we decided to stay. It reminds me of those old cafe you see in the movies. It services the same menu as Cafe Landtmann

Deliciously fresh made on site with some excellent gluten free options. Beware, you will be charged per piece of bread!

Great little spot, a 5 minute walk away from the Opera House. Especially great if you want to avoid the hotel breakfast trap of breakfast buffets (25 EURO pp!!) or the more affordable but pastry laden continental options. Watch outs for North Americans (general for Austria/Bavaria region): tap water (from the Alpes) is not free and neither is the table bread basket (you will be charged 1.5 EURO for every piece you take). You will receive a free glass of water with every cup of coffee your order though. We went here twice, the egg dishes were great, apple strudel is delish, excellent lattes and possibly hot chocolate I've ever had! Enjoy :)

If you are looking for a classic café like the old days, then this is one of the place you should definitely give a visit. Café Mozart and this café actually serve the same menu. They both belong to the same chain. Café Mozart is always busy due the location. But here, you will always find a place to sit and they have long opening hours. They serve the special viennese breakfast in a couple of variations that suits every taste. The only negative to this place (the whole chain actually) is that they have started to ask for a fee for tap water, which is very weird for Vienna since tap water is free.

This review is only for desert. The strudel was good, but the first version came out cold, I had to send it back. Also, the portion was quite small for €7. The two big pluses about this cafe are 1) charging ports at almost every seat, and 2) free wifi. Basically, it's a pleasant spot to sit, relax, charge your phone, and have a snack, but there is probably better and cheaper strudel in Vienna.

    The Leberknödelsuppe (liver dumpling soup)

The Café Museum has not much to do with a museum despite its name, though this Café is among the top ten most traditional, popular and elegant Cafés in the city center, Vienna's splendid 1st district. So here at the Café Museum you can experience the flair, atmosphere and splendor of the old days of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. Every some weeks there are readings held of famous Austrian litereature by poets and writers in the Café Museum, for instance the famous Austrian writer Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach who lived in the old days of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. These readings are used to be free of entry and are very enjoyable to experience in this ambience reminding those wo expose themselves to of the times when Austria wa still an Empire ruled my the Emperor and its aristocracy. That brings me to the stylish interior and ambience of the Café Museum, which is definitely not the most reasonable when it comes to the prices of the dishes and tarts but you get high quality for your money. You have a seat in one of the many niches of the Café and enjoy your dishes, coffees and desserts along with a large variety of daily newspapers to choose from. The Café Museum is quite big in size with two wings and many niches and tables to choose from for having a good time relaxing on your own or with good company. The seating is comfortable to sit in since it is in sofa/couch style. The waiters are friendly and used to tourists therefore they are able and willing to speak English with you. I had the Leberknödelsuppe (liver dumpling soup) which is very popular in Austria. It was delicious. And my company had the delicious Gulaschsuppe (the Austrian variant of the more original Hungarian style goulash), though I have to mention that the Austrian version is more a thick soup and the Hungarian original is a thin soup you probably only get in Hungary but not in Austria. The Café Museum is a great place to stay in Vienna to experience the Wiener Kaffeehauskultur, the famous Viennese Coffee House Culture. With Love! Dr. Dr. Immanuel Fruhmann

The chocos were not sweet at all but really good like you tasted choco, not sugar. the pastries were delicious and the atmosphere was very classy like 1930s. they follow tradition, you can tell.

This is a nice traditional Viennese coffee house. They're in a great location. The windows let in tons of light and it is wonderful that they are non-smoking. Some of the waiters are very friendly and smiling! That's right: smiles and friendliness in a traditional Viennese coffee house! But unfortunately, this just makes the traditionally grumpy waiters even grumpier. I'm all for hanging on to originality and unique cultural mentality, but really Vienna, is this the characteristic you most want to retain throughout the coming decades? A melange costs a steep €4,90! It's a good quality, tasty coffee, but it's gone in 2 sips. And to be polite, you have to add a tip. I can't help thinking, "I could have had a venti latte!" Well, it's nice to experience traditional Viennese coffee house style, but it's a pity they don't continue to build on and develop that style. It feels like it's a choice between a dusty old tradition or a "foreign" style coffee house. How about an updated Viennese coffee? The melange of the 21st century? But if course I'm referring to Viennese coffee houses in general. Regarding Cafe Museum specifically, you'll get a good but miniscule coffee consisting mostly of milk foam in a beautiful historical setting with if-y service and an inflated price.
