Phenomenal! two weeks later and I'm still waking up in the middle of the night thinking about what "real" schnitzel tastes like. Make a reservation for a more enjoyable experience but definitely put this joint on your list for an authentic meal in Vienna. Overall service - with a little bit of local attitude - and enjoyable decor helped round out a stellar experience. Highly recommended.
This is a must try in Vienna! It's hard to get a table here, but worth the effort! What an experience to try all of these traditional foods and it didn't disappoint! The chicken Schnitzel was prepared perfectly! It wasn't oily at all and the chicken was so tender! It was so delightful, because "honestly, I haven't had a good piece of chicken like this in a long time! I loved where it's also located- nestled in a cute alley way'. The decor is also the traditional carved wood. I really love the traditional ambiance you really felt like you're experiencing the culture. The service was on point, extremely informative with the menu, and attentive! We loved the food and experience! A must try in Vienna!
We had to try it despite not having reservations. My veggie friend was curious about the vegan schnitzel, so we braved the cold for about an hour to sit. The combo is the pork schnitzel + potato salad + lingonberry jam, which makes the meal pretty expensive compared to any other schnitzel you can get in Vienna where these sides are included. I will say the schnitzel and jam are good. I won't say it's like 2x better than any other schnitzel I've had on the trip, which is about the cost inflation you're paying to eat at this 'institution.' The potato salad that everyone cites as the most delicious thing on Earth was probably the most disappointing unfortunately. If you like mustard-heavy potato salad that is slightly sweet, you're in for a treat, otherwise it's really quite gross. The vegan schnitzel looked really sad, but my friend kind of liked it. She said it was basically Morningstar veggie chicken nuggets, except it's $25. Service was exceptionally slow even from a European standard. Would not recommend unless you had a reservation and extra euros to spend.
The Figlmüller schnitzel was huge and definitely one of those Vienna bucket list meals. I had the original with potatoes and it took up the whole plate. It sorta reminds me of chicken katsu, however I did feel it was a bit dry. I don't really know what I was expecting haha. The restaurant itself is big and had a line out the door, which tells you how popular it is. We waited outside for about 20 minutes. It didn't seem that bad. The service was very slow, not great, but it was okay for what it was. Overall, worth it for the size of the schnitzel because it was bigger than the plate and to check it off the list. Would I go again? Probably not.
The potato salad and baked potato sides stood out. They were absolutely delicious paired with the schnitzel. A word of caution - the schnitzel is huge and will send you into a food coma. If you visit with a loved one, I recommend sharing a schnitzel with them. Service was...a little impolite. Not to me directly, but to other customers. I could see others were made uncomfortable by the tense, direct nature of communication by one male server in particular. It really was beyond Austrian/German "directness". For this reason, and the high price, I deduct one star. Ultimately, I recommend visiting, at least once!
This is the original schnitzel place. Although authentic Weiner schnitzel uses veal, some restaurants use pork to save money. Figlmüller uses pork. They must have still done well with pork schnitzel because they opened another location on Bäckerstraße around the corner. I thought this would be a tourist trap, but was pleasantly surprised at how authentic the food and service were. The pork schnitzel was pounded very thin and fried to a crisp. It was huge, so big that it extended the edge of the plate. The flavor was what you expected a pork schnitzel to taste like -- nothing too earth-shattering delicious -- but the side of potato salad elevated my meal. The potato salad was made with pumpkin seed oil, with a little sweetness and a little tang. It was the best potato salad I had in Vienna. The service was top notch as well. I felt welcomed and our server was warm. I did not feel like a tourist...except maybe when I asked to take a photo with my pork schnitzel!

The potato salad with greens was different from any potato salad we've had, but it was a highlight. Service was prompt and friendly, and easily accommodated our English.

The best Weinerschnitzel in Vienna since 1905. Our friend made reservations two weeks ago in advance and we still had to wait 10 minutes. It was well worth it. The food was great and superb service.
Figlmuller was really good, and the service was among the best we had in Vienna, but why does schnitzel everywhere in this town taste kind of bland? It's not just me - everyone in our party said as much. Nevertheless, the pork schnitzel here was prepared pretty well, the potato salad with it was fantastic, and our server super friendly. It did take some time to get things, but he was concerned and on top of it. The place is nice, and bustling with tables all having the signature dish (so large as others have said). We did wait in line, but it went fast for us. Having done some of the other schnitzel places in town I think this was the best for us.
Everyone recommended Figmüller, so of course we had to try it. Every time we walked by the line outside was a mile long. Luckily we saw the side street entrance and walked right in and were sat. The schnitzel was absolutely perfect. Nice and tender, and the lingonberry jam was a delightful addition. If you are looking for some good schnitzel, this is the place.

Touted as the best schnitzel in Austria, expectations were high. Note - this location is the "sister" restaurant of the "main" location just down the road that was closed for renovations (I believe). The food was great and did not disappoint. The pork was thin but very tender. Portions are huge and 2 people could easily split an order. The potato salad was tasty without feeling heavy. The Schnitzel was very good, meat is not tough. it was bigger than the size of the plate so we only ordered one to share. The potato salad was also very good. They do charge for water too (see receipt). They were fully booked so they to book at least 1 week in advance. read more

Cute spot for some schnitzel but definitely make reservations before or you will not get seated. I got lucky and was able to snag a reservation a month before my trip. They book up fast so if you do decide to go then make sure to make it far in advance! The queue was long outside the restaurant but they were not seating people without a reservation. Even with our reservation we had to wait for sometime for the table to be ready. Inside was tight and cramped. The service was quick but not the friendliest. There is a toilet outside so you have to ask for the key. The schnitzel was ok, nothing special about it. It seemed like it was more for the atmosphere. read more

Want pork or chicken schnitzel? This is the place. Yum. The restaurant is a tiny spot in Vienna and you can share one schnitzel as the portion is huge. Wish it would come automatically with lingonberry sauce but please ask for it. It provides a nice counterpoint to schnitzel. The meal comes with potato salad or mixed salad. Potato salad is flavored with herbs and vinegar/sugar. The mixed salad includes a cabbage slaw with caraway seeds and some potato salad too. It's a bit crowded in the restaurant so please make reservations ahead online. Just wish the coating was a bit thicker so that it doesn't come off while cutting. That's the only suggestion. It's an institution for certain. Service is kind and attentive. They have a white wine that goes along well with schnitzel. Ambiance is a bit noisy but fun. read more

My partner and I visited for dinner, and it's hands-down the place to go for schnitzel in Austria. Succulent, lemony weinerschnitzel with absolutely gorgeous potato salad and lingonberry. Washed down with a veltliner. This was somewhat expected, actually not the potato salad, that knocked me over. But did not expect such a beautifully designed restaurant! Deep greens and modern accents! Definitely get a reservation though there were long lines! Also service can get a little slow as it gets more busy. read more
We were seated right away and waited on immediately. I did feel like we were being rushed a bit. We both got the schnitzel, which was a mistake. Due to the size, we should have shared one and/or, one of us could have tried something different The schnitzel and white wine were very good and we did enjoy the authentic Austrian pub vibe. They claim they have the best schnitzel. The restaurant is pretty fancy with dressed-up professional waiters and classic fine-dining vibe. Their schnitzel is pretty delicious especially when paired with the potato salad. I am going to let you guys in on a secret I discovered...the best schnitzel is actually in Salzburg. read more

Everyone said you have to try wiener schnitzel when in Vienna, and so I did. The best way to describe it--country fried steak but better. It's flatten veal coated in a bread crumbs and fried until it's crispy and golden. They serve it with a lemon wedge but I wish they served it with some sauce because it felt a little too dry after a few bites. The veal is thin and tender which was a good ratio to the bread crumbs. It was crispy with each evenly bite. The restaurant is a wait depending on when you get in line. My group waited about 30 minutes. Which is not too bad for a nice restaurant that normally keeps busy. The establishment is gorgeous with seating on the ground floor and upstairs. Even though it's roomy, with all the tables and chairs filled it became a little too crowded. The servers were decently friendly, but quite slow in taking our orders and it look awhile to get our food. Luckily I had grape juice (really delicious) that helped curb my hunger. Food overall was good, but I felt I could have gotten the same food quality at other restaurants that weren't so hyped or upscale. Service definitely could have been friendlier. read more
This little restaurant in the heart of Vienna is a masterpiece unto itself. Claiming to be the original schnitzel house, the oversized golden-fried veal schnitzel extends over the plate and is filled with crispy goodness. Squirt lemon on your delicious meal and it enhances the crispy bite with a lemon kiss. Though I prefer the potato salad at another restaurant, the potato salad at Figlmüller was great and helps cut through the heartiness of the schnitzel and resets your mouth for the next bite. Overall, we'd definitely recommend this place to everyone! One bit of advice, DO NOT TRY TO WALK-IN! You HAVE TO make a reservation. Trust me, it is worth it! read more
Booked a reservation ahead of time, there was a long line for those who hadn't made one. The restaurant is huge inside and spans 2 floors. Got the schnitzel and spinach dumplings. This was our first meal upon arriving in Vienna. I made reservations for 12pm which was suggested in a YouTube video I had watched, but when we got there there were some tables open and we were seated right away. We ordered their schnitzel, veal goulash, potato salad. We enjoyed everything! If you come to FIGLMÜLLER, don't skip any of these dishes. Absolutely delicious! During our trip, we tried these same dishes at other restaurants and I preferred Figlmüller's version. Overall, cute restaurant with great service and friendly staff. Highly recommend coming here if you ever find yourself in Vienna! read more
Pretty good food, ok service. This surprisingly feels like a chain restaurant. They are in a hurry to get you in and out of the dining experience so don't expect courses or even recommendations. We over ordered our Schnitzel meals. You can easily split one between two people. We recommend getting a couple salads which you can eat with the schnitzel, it's kind of dry and boring without it. One potato salad for four is fine. They don't sell beer, only wine and the bathroom requires a large key and a trip outside the restaurant. read more

The staff didn't even take our order at first, and even after they finally did, white customers who ordered after us got their food long before we did. It's been over an hour, and we still haven't received our food. This is the worst, most racist restaurant I've ever been to. read more
