We came here to experience proper Austrian cuisine and were not disappointed. The menus are mostly in German, with one small sections in English which gives the highlights. I was going to get the Spare Ribs (but they ran out), for next time. We got: Vienna Schnitzel (4.5 stars) - the portions are large, we got 2 pieces for around 16Euros. this was the first-ever meal we had in Vienna Austria. we wanted to try some local food and saw this place near our Airbnb NOTE: This place is CASH ONLY. we had cash on us. this place has a lot of locals eating. the staff speaks some English and we were able to order very smoothly. The portion was HUGE. we ordered a meal for two, but it felt like a meal for 4 people. there was sausage, schnitzel, and fries. we could not finish it and asked for a to-go box. then the waiter gave us some alumni foil. I was a bit scared reading the Yelp and Google reviews about how this restaurant isn't very friendly to tourists. We were a group of 3 and we were seated at a table of one Austrian man finishing up his supper - a bit of an awkward encounter I must say... But that was the beginning to all-in-all great dinner experience. We ordered classics - schnitzel and apfelstrudel. The portions are absolutely massive. I'd recommend sharing a lot of these dishes. My wife and I were looking for an authentic experience during our recent visit to Vienna and found this place online. The reviews lured us in. We took a twenty minute cab ride, arrived and went inside expecting to be greeted. That consisted of being lead to a table, having the menus thrown down in the table in front of us while being told, it's "cash only". We viewed the menu for about 15 minutes, expecting a waiter to come take our drink order. We were not acknowledged from that point on so we got out of there. They obviously didn't want us there and obviously didn't care. It was the worst experience we had in Vienna by far and a waste of time and money on cab rides back and forth. The surrounding area looked a bit seedy and we were not comfortable in that environment. I'd give it zero or negative stars if it took that here. This is the first review I have ever posted on Yelp. The menu is entirely in German but no worries - the lighthearted and humorous table server, Walter, was happy to help us navigate the options and provide recommendations. For drinks, the lemonade is comparable to lemon-flavored soda, but refreshing nonetheless. We settled on turkey and pork schnitzels, the pork being our favorite. Extremely juicy pork, you'll savor every drop as you quickly gobble it up. Wrap it all up with an apple strudel. A bit mushy (I prefer apple pie with a crispier crust), but the strudel was still a tasty treat to end with. All in all, I'd be happy to return. read more

An Austrian wirtshaus that has a kitchen catering to most typical dishes you would ask for in the country. They also seemed to have a great diversity on schnitzels. The meals we enjoyed were Schweinsbraten & Pute-Schnitzel and it seemed to be rather cheap for the size and quality of the portion. Probably one reason for this is that its not exactly near a tourist attraction and a bit situated for the neighbourhood around. What struck me most about this place was how it seemed to cater for the every-day type of people. I do not want this to sound as if it is meant to have a lower standard of an ambiance, which it definitely doesn't. Also this doesnt mean tourists cannot venture out here. The place just has this feel that over the years of integration, living and working, all the young & old seem to come here to enjoy a tasty meal and a few drinks. You'll understand when you see it. The walls are hung with pictures of the place many years ago along with advertisements from the past. The wooden tables all have the memories etched in while the whole place is covered in green plants. There is also the choice to sit outside next to the road. Unfortunately, this place does not have a garden or an inner courtyard at its disposal. I always hesitated to try this place but was glad to do so. This is my third time to visit this cozy indigenous restaurant. It was introduced by my classmate. Now I become regular customer of it .lol , Why am I particularly fond of this restaurant? The answer is obvious that it offers delicious food with customer-friendly price. Two main staples and drinking (I.e., weiswein) included , totally just cost around 20 euro. The staff was very nice and accommodating! When I went it was packed and you basically sit anywhere, but don't be surprised if you end up at a table with some other people already at it! I got the schnitzel (the smaller portion). It was delicious! The first time I've ever had schnitzel and I wasn't sure what I was in for. The salad that came with it was yummy too. Saw this place on yelp and decided to check it out. It was the first place we ate at while in Vienna. The food was very authentic and so was the overall feel of the restaurant. At first the waiters might seem cold because they are busy, but they ended up being really nice and tried their best to help us in English. There was no language problem. We shared a plate because the portion size are so large. The plate had schnitzel, Vienna Sausage, and two other meats which were all delicious. The price was very reasonable. We also had two beers. Our Bill was a little over 35 Euros. One thing I will say is that it gets busy sometimes so if you don't want to sit in the smoking section (yes you can smoke inside, and people often do) then you should be prepared to wait a little. read more

This is more of a "local" place but the servers speak excellent English and I had lovely conversations with people dining who reside nearby. The Schnitzel is outstanding - and it wasn't my 1st schnitzel rodeo. The menu is pretty tempting (if you speak German, which I do not), The prices are very reasonable and serving sizes are gigantic. This place is for sure out of the touristy areas, but worth a trip if you really want to feel and eat like a local. The place is fairly large, but most of the seating area is for smoking. If you want to be in a non-smoking area, they have a separate room that can get filled up easily during lunch. When we went, we were directed to go in there, but didn't see any empty unreserved tables. There was an older gentleman who looked at us and welcomed us to his table. What a nice fellow! We ordered the schnitzel (as you must, of course) and a goulash dish. Both were huge portions, and were tasty to justify the trip. Beer was good too. The waiter was awesome, great dry humor, the food was delicious. The weiner schnitzel is cheap, but it is also pork. That is the only downside. It was cooked to perfection and truly gave the flavor that you never wanted to leave. If I came again I would get the large portion. The dessert was good. I ordered the Apple cake. It was premade, by them, and then reheated in the oven. It was like boiling lava for 5-10 minutes after arrival. It was quite good, but ouch. Beware. I would come back. Take the U Bahn tu the S Bahn and walk 4 blocks to get to Austrian food heaven. I was alone but ended up at a group table of lovely Austrians visiting the "big city." It seems this is a place of pilgrimage for those in the know. My shnitzel was large, flat, and perfect. The potato salad was delightful. Perfect beer too...unfortunately I was too full for dessert. This place is soooooo good! We managed to find this hidden gem while laying a round next to the Danube this afternoon, thinking about eating some local chow for dinner. It's far enough away from the tourist spots to have mainly locals but close enough bike ride if you are staying central (12min pedal.) Menus all in German but we came with an adventurous attitude and let the waiter help us pick some specials. Knocked me flat how good it was. Pork with onion sauce, crackle & a huge dumpling for first course to share. Following that, a beef dish with fried onions & wedges. Portion sizes are very generous. Staff very helpful. Great Austrian food! The schnitzel was delicious and the beer was cheap. An interesting quirk of this restaurant is that they will seat different parties at the same table, so my friends and I had dinner with a very friendly local Viennan who helped us with the menu (all German) and chatted with us. I had initially chosen this restaurant because it was said to be authentic cheap and not touristy. It is certainly the first two but it does now have a fair number of tourists, likely due to the positive reviews online. Regardless, a very solid choice for a casual dinner in Vienna. read more

Located in the 20th district is this little gem where one can feast on any number of delicious Austrian meals. This place keeps delivering service and quality food for many years without disappointment. The portions are bountiful and prices won't leave your wallet dry. In the summer it had outdoor seating but be sure to reserve a place as it is usually busy. Inside they offer two sections of smoking and non smokers seating. Hope you enjoy the food as much as I did.
