Salmon
Heying D.

The food was truly amazing. I couldn't believe that the food was so good. We took the specials, the steamed salmon and the wild boar gulasch. The fish was tender and cooked just right. The chanterelle mushrooms were very tasty and yummy. The gulasch was an epiphany, very savory and tasty and left us wanting more even though we were already full. The others had Kümmelbraten, pork with sauerkraut which was cooked very well. Great beer. Great service. Wonderful seating area outside.

Traditional Viennese Gasthaus in the City Centre

When I'm showing people around the historic old center of Vienna, and we want to eat typical Viennese food, Gasthaus zu den drei Hacken is one of my go-to places. This old and traditional Gasthaus counted such luminaries as Franz Schubert, Moritz von Schwind, and Johann Nestroy among its regulars (Stammgäste) and the walls tell their story. I especially like the Franz Schubert room which is a perfect place for a large party to eat. And the food is very good too. Especially tasty for me here is the Schwammerl (mushroom) soup. It is maybe the best I've ever eaten in Vienna. A leafy green salad and Geröstete Knödel mit Ei und Speck were also very well done. A few splashes of tabasco sauce added a little zest to the flavors. Service was friendly and efficient. As usual Gasthaus zu den 3 Hacken did not disappoint!

We where recommended here by our hotel. 1st time I had real deal schnitzel. Extremely old restaurant with authentic cuisine

Goulash with Dumpling and egg

We had heard good things about this place and decided to give it a try. It seemed to fit what we like: not in the main tourist area but an easy walk from our hotel and a nice, traditional interior and an appealing menu. Well...we were disappointed. I ordered the roast pork with dumpling and sauerkraut but was served a beef dish instead. This was pretty quickly fixed, and that wasn't a big deal. But my roast pork was not fall-apart pork like its supposed to be. It was pretty tough and chewy. My hubby had the goulash, and he said it was tasty but also not as tender as it should have been. We left wishing we had gone somewhere else.

Great service and tasty food. We stumbled upon this restaurant on our walk back to the hotel. The waiter got my order wrong but the food turned out good so no complaints there.

I was turned away at lunchtime because I'm a party of one. There were clearly other single diners and some small tables were empty.

PERFECT SCHNITZEL ! Loved it. Very clean and a lot of locals here. We loved it and loved the wine…read moretoo! Fast and efficient service. Highly recommended by a local and they were right. Danke!!!

We arrived at Plachuttas a little after 1:00PM and it was not crowded at all. At first we wondered…read moreif we should stay. We did. Sat outside as it was a beautiful spring day. Menus and bread serving arrived. $4.80 per person. Oh well. We decided to share and we selected the white asparagus with a tomato and egg relish with a vinaigrette and an Order of Wiener Schnitzel with potato salad and lingonberries. Our food arrived very quick. Both dishes quite good. Not the best we have experienced in Vienna and not the worst. - Wiener Schnitzel: best one of the week. It was thin as it should be and not greasy at all. Wish it had been cooked with a little seasoning. Salt and fresh lemon solved that problem. 4/5 - Potato Salad: excellent. Almost addictive. Loved the fresh mache and pumpkin seed oil on it. 5/5 - Cranberry Sauce: or as I call it lingonberry sauce. Average. Tasted like out of a jar. But good. 4/5 - White Asparagus: served with a tomato herb vinaigrette with chopped egg. Wish the asparagus had been served warm then topped with the vinaigrette. Would made the dish pop. Very good. 4/5 - Atmosphere: Outside was glorious. Area was spacious. 5/5 - Service: waiter was abrupt and would disappear for lengthy times. Must have been really busy inside. 3/5 - Value: somewhat overpriced. Think the mandatory $4.80 bread service per person put it over the top. I expected outstanding bread and got a very small serving of bread and a pad of butter with a couple of tablespoons of a herb mixture.
