From the very first time I went to Vienna, the Hilton Vienna Plaza Concierge who recommended Zum Leupold, every time since we have enjoyed a dinner there. The restaurant often gets very busy so making a reservation is very much recommended. The menu is full of Viennese delights with something for everyone, even vegan specialties. Service is very attentive and paced leisurely which lets you relax and enjoy your meal. I am a big fan of Viennese Pancake Soup and without question the Wiener Schnitzel is absolutely mouth watering! When your in Vienna, do give Zum Leupold a try, I know you won't be disappointed!

We had a wonderful lunch here. Beautiful day to eat outside under a big lovely old tree. Loved the wine, the sausage plate and especially the fried cheese. OMG- get the fried cheese. We thought service was great. They have a lot of local customers who obvious love this place and for good reason. Strollers fit at the tables so I didn't see a problem with families eating here.

I am a tourist and I came to this restaurant. I had the beef and for dessert I had ice cream and whipped cream. Since I didn't know about Austrian culture, I asked the waiter what "Zum" meant in English. He took me to the kitchen to show how the chefs made the Zum. They were hard at work. They told me that they put a bit of Zum in every meal. It made my iced cream taste a lot better! I will be coming back to Austria for more!!! I love Zum!!!

Wow. Leopold was chosen for me by a deeply committed man of Vienna as THE quintessential example of a Vienna restaurant. My god, it did not disappoint. This is a brief review of a 4 hour lunch. Wine list was deep. Of course, we had to do a Brundlmayer Grüner Veltliner after a couple glasses of Schwechater Zwickl bier (unfiltered all malt). Its Austria after all. My favorite soup was one the menu and it was the near best I've had - that being Hungarian Gulyassuppe - with lots of diced Vienna sausages. This and the near liter of beer and wine could of sufficed for lunch, but no, it was a celebration of sorts. I selected the Schweinsbrüstl, a Der klassische steirische Schweinebraten (traditional roast pork!). It came with stuffed dumplings. Yeah something so simple about roast pork in Austria - its so good. Crackling skin with very tender and rich meat. Desert! Ahhh Eismarillenknödel, gefüllt mit Marillensauce, gerollt in Haselnussbröseln! This is classic Vienna dish - a hazelnut crusted ice cream filled with Apricots. Tasting this you realize the Austrian have the highest level of Epicurean refinement. Done? No way. After a strong double espresso, its time to break out the Schnapps. After this point, things become even more loud, boisterous but pleasant nonetheless. If you are in Vienna and want the real deal, go here and give yourself the rest of the day to kick back.

Excellent Viennese cuisine, nice atmosphere, friendly service, two sections of outside seating, both smoking and non-smoking sections, and free Wi-Fi. Our first time we started with the gnocchi, which was different from the Italian gnocchi I'm used to, but nonetheless quite good. I had the steak of minced veal which was delicious and my wife had Wienerschnitzel which she enjoyed. Since then I've also eaten their Fiakergoulash, which is excellent. My wife has eaten their fried mushrooms and hunter toast starters and enjoyed both.

Loved the Goulash and attentive service. The only potential drawback is it's not very accommodating of families.

The moment we clarified we weren't together and I brought in my Brown boyfriend, the host seemed visibly perplexed, and the tone shifted. Throughout the evening, we were denied a simple wine tasting, then largely ignored, which left us with a strong impression of biased, discriminatory treatment. To make matters worse, staff repeatedly emphasized the price of everything, which came off as patronizing and inappropriate regardless of anyone's background or perceived status. This experience felt xenophobic and racist, and it was frankly vile--there are far too many restaurants in Austria to support one that treats guests this way. As two physicians who take care of people in their darkest hours, it felt incredibly degrading to be treated this way when we were simply trying to enjoy an evening away from the stress of our daily careers. I would hope that the owners of this establishment would take a hard look at the standards set for their employees and management practices going forward to create a safe atmosphere where all connoisseurs can gather and vibe even in just a moment of peace from the day-to-day hardships we can all certainly relate to. Shameful behavior indeed. Pity, as the ambience and wine selection was delicious but tainted by the ugly reminder of bigotry.

Gerstner is a long-standing bakery with a few locations (including at the former summer palace). They had a shop relatively near our hotel, so we stopped in early during the trip. If you are facing the State Opera House, Gerstner's is on the right across the street. Note that there is also some as or more famous outlet for cakes behind the Opera House also, but they appeared to have a line when we walked by. At Gerstner's you enter at street level where they have a dessert counter with displays. You can get a slice to go here. However, if you want more of the full experience, you can go upstairs (they have an elevator as well). A wide curving staircase gets you to the rather small 2nd level (the first floor, in local parlance). There are some tables here, but it has the air of a bookstore coffee shop. We opted to continue up to the next floor. Here, there is a dark hallway where you approach the host stand. There was one couple ahead of us and they got seated quickly. I think they had a bar as well as dining, so they ask which you want. We just wanted dessert, so they walked us past the bar. This floor has high ceilings and palace-like decoration. The vibe is definitely 'special' but they don't charge extortionate rates for it, which was nice. We were shown to a small table in the main dining room. I think you could see part of the Opera House out of the open windows. Two of us got coffees and we all split a Sachertorte. We enjoyed it, but everyone agreed that it was a bit dry. Maybe the Viennese don't go for moist cakes. They do have other items on the menu and I think you can get a regular meal here (schnitzel, salads, etc.). However, we visited around 2:30 p.m. on a weekday, so we just wanted the cake. The bill was reasonable, and we all agreed that this was a worthwhile experience.
