I have a top 5 of restaurants around the world, and this tops the list. Every time I am in Vienna, I finagle a way to have dinner here. The food - the menu consists of creative starters, entrees and desserts that are made from local, sustainable food and changes regularly. They do creative spins on venison dishes, which I routinely try, and I must say, in all my visits, it was always different from the last visit and more perfect than the last time. My last visit, I started with the Beef Carpaccio with mushrooms and arugula... they make one of the best Carpaccios I have eaten in all of Europe. The beef was flavorful and perfect, and the presentation artful. I had an entree of venison with sauteed mushrooms and rose hip sauce... it melted in my mouth and again, another work of art. For dessert, we split the molten chocolate cake with cream, fruit and home made vanilla ice cream. All of the food is artfully presented to a point where you hate to take a bite of the work of art, as it is so beautiful. The wine list is extensive and they are happy to suggest the perfect wine to pair with your meal. The atmosphere is sleek, modern and upscale. The place is always packed with mostly locals, so make a reservation. They are closed on Mondays and do not accept credit cards, so make sure to plan accordingly. Werner, Franz and Sonia run the restaurant and they are gracious and make your dining experience personal and memorable. They have an English Menu available and the staff is always happy to help translate if needed. This is truly a gem in an off the beaten path area of Vienna that sits just outside the ring. It is still #1 on my list of places to eat. You should definitely add it to your dining bucket list! read more

In the two weeks my husband and I vacationed in Eastern Europe (Austria, Hungary and Poland), we agreed that this was one of the best dining experiences we had. Phenomenal food, combo of rustic/swanky decor and friendly service! Bread basket: OH man - rye bread with nuts, seeds and carrot dipped into the herb oil concoction started the meal off right. Drinks: Very little beer selection because the server said the restaurant is more known for its wine list. Apps: Beef carpaccio with rocket, pine nuts and parm. Incredibly flavorful and fresh. Beef melted in my mouth and the rocket (popular greens in this neck of the woods) added some spicy notes. The pine nuts complemented texturally with a bit of crunch and the Parmesan rounds out overall taste with a hint of saltiness and creaminess. Husband's entree: Fried duck breast (still tender and juicy inside the crust) with chanterelles (mushrooms also abound in this area) that added a woody/earthy flavor with sweet apricot preserves meant as a topping, served in a jar. A potato gratin and turnips in cream on the side made this a filling meal. My entree: Fork tender venison in a ragout of juicy black currants (common fruit of the region) with chunks of carrots. This was a hearty dish with so much meat and I loved the pops of currant juice throughout the thick stew-like ragout. Next to this was a large serving of giant potato dumplings. The texture of these resembled hardened polenta and the size of them were a bit too large/overwhelming. Dessert: Chocolate mousse with macerated strawberries, whiskey ice cream and some rolled up milk and white chocolate shavings as garnish. I LOVED the sweet mousse in tandem with the sour red currants. The ice cream had a rice pudding kind of texture, which was a little odd but still tasted yummy. This restaurant is a must-eat during a night on the town in Vienna - regional cuisine with a modern twist in a hip, intimate setting. Classy trendy restaurant offering innovative high-end international fare. You'll be impressed by the food quality. Unfortunately service is not Europe's strong suite and Entler does nothing to change this perception. Expect to wait and not be waited on.(since this is a cultural thing it does not affect my rating) Reservations are a must. Euros only. Entree: The duck is some of the best I've had, crispy and juicy. It was presented in an oblong dish with a delicious sauce and chanterelles. Could not have been better. Desert: We had a threesome sampler with raspberry ice cream, flan and chocolate. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of my meal at Entler. A friend and I were struggling to find a fabulous meal for our last night in Vienna that was still in our neighborhood (1040 Wien), and finally both stumbled upon Entler online. We called the restaurant around 8:30PM on a Saturday evening, and were lucky enough to secure a spot for two shortly afterwards. Things to note about our experience at Entler: 1. Ambiance: Fancy, modern interior, low lighting, with white walls, and large wired silver adornments on the ceiling and walls. Mix of couples, families, and groups at tables of various sizes, buzzy volume, but not too loud. 2. Wine selection is broad and cheap (by comparison to US, at least). I enjoyed two glasses of Austrian whites, which totaled to only 5 euros together. Win! 3. The bread and tapenade/oil combo at the beginning of the meal is served immediately, but isn't too big of a portion to spoil the rest of your meal. My appetizer, entree, and dessert were perfection. I started with the pumpkin soup, which was velvety and laced with truffle oil. I moved on to the veal with pea mousse, coffee sauce, and truffled potatoes (bring on the truffles!). The veal was cooked perfectly, and the sauce complemented it well. Our dessert was a shared molten chocolate cake. Warm chocolate to end a meal? Yes, please. 4. Our service was friendly and attentive throughout. The waitresses were very sweet, and the host greeted and bid us farewell warmly. 5. Our bill was an even 30 euros each, which felt like a great value for the very high quality compared to a few of the other meals we had shared in Vienna. We had an outstanding, memorable dinner here last night. They could tell our American accents of course, so they provided menus in English without waiting to be asked--very thoughtful. There were so many amazing dishes on the menu that it was hard to narrow it down, but we finally decided to share two soups, two appetizers, one entree and save a bit of room for dessert. The waiter brought out a basket of lovely homemade bread slices with some good olive oil and an olive tapenade, to munch on. All good. For the soups we had one creamy potato with champerelles which was an outstanding mushroom soup. I think the potato was involved to add some body, but that soup had some buttery, cheesy goodness going on. Then there was a cream of asparagus and Parmesan soup, which was divine. For starters we had two things: one was described as a fried greaves dumpling served on a cucumber salad. We did not know what greaves were, but decided to be open minded. Turns out that a greave dumpling is very much like a Cuban fried potato ball from a place in LA (the Cuban one is mashed potatoes, formed into balls, them a small spoonful of booked ground beef is added to the middle, while think breaded in bread crumbs and fried). Austrian version about the same but the meat filling is pork cracklings, per Google. Our other dish was an arugula salad served with goat cheese wrapped in bacon and fried, balsamic vinaigrette. I have had versions of this salad before, but the bacon was a local twist. For our main course, we asked to share the lamb steak on the menu, served with asparagus and mashed potatoes and a wonderful brown sauce where I came across some wonderful bits of what may have been caramelized Rosemary or fennel. We also think the potatoes had been dressed up a bit, perhaps some parsnips added in? Lots of butter for sure. It was so, so good! For dessert we shared one of the molten lava chocolate cakes, which comes with a fruit garnish and a side of homemade rice ice cream. Yum. Sharing helped us keep the amount of food within reason, loved every bite. Especially appreciate the restaurant splitting the entree for us into two beautifully presented plates.
