I felt like an Austrian princess the entire time, with staff on hand to catch a napkin before it fell to the floor and live piano music for the duration of our meal. Our meal started with a selection of freshly baked bread, two types of butter, and amuse bouche. Appetizers were steamed broccoli with bulgar/ smoked eel greaves/ etc and the lobster with pickled veal tongue in a lobster bisque and crispy rice with marinated palm hearts. Both were exquisite, especially the lobster. I savored every bite, especially knowing that it would be a rare find back in my new home of Berlin. For our main courses, I had the Pike Perch with asparagus/ citrus lemon/ saffron and my husband had the Arctic Char. For dessert, we opted for both the Milk and Honey. Milk was burnt milk ice cream with cardamom, dried barberry, Beetroot granule, peanut cream, roasted milk, Amaranth cress and crispy oat. Honey was cookies with Mara de Bois strawberries, dehydrated chocolate mousse, rose jelly, honey cream, and fried batter pearls. Both were, for lack of a better word, also exquisite. On top of all this food, the chef also sent out a couple of additional dessert bites, which went great with our decaf coffee. If you have a special occasion to celebrate, or if you just want to "treat yo self," Le Ciel is a great place for it. To date, this was one of the best birthday dinners I've had.

The service was impeccable and the meal started on a highlight. The aperitif was delicious and for my starter I had the onion soup which was the best onion soup I've ever had! The bread and butter they provide was ordinary. For my main dish I ordered the pasta with cabbage. The description of this dish sounded plain but I was looking forward to how they would execute it. Eh....pasta was el dente but the pasta tasted sweet, like a desert. Not my thing. We ended with a dessert, which was an orange creme brûlée. Good but nothing exceptional. The wine they gave you was ordinary, no wonder bottomless. I was disappointed, expected much more in terms of flavor.

It's roughly a 7 minute walk from the Pilgram-gasse stop on the U4 green line. It's definitely in a more residential area. We arrived around 730p and we're both greeted and seated quite immediately. I ordered a wine cocktail that had Muscato and grapes. It was just how I like it, sweet lol. Our server also brought out fresh and warm bread. It was served with this pink colored cream. The consistency resembled a whipped cream cheese. Very light and slightly sweet. I ordered the (Gebratene Entenbrust mit Waldpilz-Trüffel-Risotto, Parmesan, Rote - Bete - Sauce), which is a Roasted Duck, Wild Mushroom, Truffle and Parm Risotto, and a beet sauce. The duck was cooked and seasoned well, though it was close to being overdone. The risotto was to die for! I ate every single thing on the plate, including the sauce. I really wish I had ordered dessert because they had so many options; however, I felt sufficiently satisfied/full so I didn't order any. My colleagues ordered the salmon cream soup (I dipped a piece of bread in it and it was delectable! Very balanced curry flavor), the Norwegian salmon, and the braised beef cheeks. Both of them enjoyed their meal and their Hungarian wines! I'll definitely add this to my list of restaurants to visit each time I return to Vienna.

I got the duck as that's what everyone recommended. It's solid, not amazing, but solid. Check out the truffle side order I got (in the pic)! That was awesome. I've never seen actual truffle and he carved some pieces right on my duck which totally made it taste better. The beef tartare I got for the app was also solid though the soup was just ok. Recommended a great glass of Austrian wine that was full-bodied and left me a bit tipsy which I was really surprised at. Dessert was typical. Sat outside also which was really nice in their courtyard.

The food is obviously French and I have to highly recommend the Croque Madame and the Croque Monsieur sandwiches. A fine salad comes with them and they are among the tastiest sandwiches in Vienna. I especially like the Croque Madame which is a Croque Monsieur with a fried egg. They usually have Piestinger Märzen beer on draught and that is the perfect liquid complement. Le Troquet is a French word for Lokal. There are many reasons why this is a very, very popular Lokal in Wien!!

Ok! This was decent. Truly. Kind of your typical patio…read moreFrench run sit down, have a smoke and some good food place. not large, and if you want to sit down for dinner, reservation is a must. As a non smoker, do not even attempt to sit inside. Its also quite loud (hard to have a real conversation without yelling a bit), a few tables, and few elevated round bar tables (small, enough for your drink and ash tray). Yellow low lights, but looks social enough. Outside you have a few tables with cover, but expect that other people will sit with you at your table if there is any space. Also smoking, but at least its outside. So why the 4 stars for a non-smoker (one star gone for that)? Excellent food and service, right price. Glass of red wine (Cote de Rhone, Bordeaux both available) under 4 Euros. I also judge very harshly a place by the croque monsiuer if they are so bold as to offer it. This is the standard "mom does not have any time to make you lunch so here's a melted cheese and ham sandwich". So if some restaurant dares to put it on the menu and charge me for it, it better be pretty damn good. (Note to you, if you ever find a place selling it to you more than for 6 Euros, they are really full of it.) So, there were a few options which I have never seen before for the famous basic sandwich, including vegetarian (not sure how that works...), all under 6 Euros I believe. I had the chevere, which meant goat cheese on top of the basic sandwich, served with a side salad with a light vinaigrette. De-lish. Top class, somehow almost gourmet, concluding that I would go back for it. and that's saying a lot. In terms of service, they really left us alone for the most part, but whenever we needed them, we could grab them, so it really was relax, as all true French places to eat are :) So overall, such good service and food, its worth overlooking the smoke if you can grab a table outside. Not a first date place, but somewhere to relax with a glass of wine and mom's high class sandwich after a long day.

For some reason I cannot see the 6 previous reviews to this location on yelp, as I wanted to…read moreunderstand how on Earth other people gave it so many stars (perhaps some lower star ratings balanced with high star ratings)? This is one of the worst places I have ate at. But let's start with the good: 1. Clean tables, floors and fair bathroom Now the bad 1. The mussels in the lunch menu were unsafe to eat. The shells did not open. That is number one sign of unsafe old mussels. We told the kitchen, they made some new, that were... you guessed it, also unopened after cooking. Its a completely careless and unsafe kitchen. And when we pointed this out to them, the cook seemed not to care, and kept serving it as the lunch special (there were two options). REALLY? So after that, I really don't have to go into how uninspired the dish was before we noticed all the closed shells. I mean, its very hard to mess up mussels in my opinion; simplest thing to cook and have lots of taste. Completely tasteless. And I don't have to express my utter dismay that our glass of wine turned out to be 5.80 Euros each. I understand that when the lady asked us if we wanted wine (no menu of wines was offered), we said yes, something white to go with the dish, but to start us with such a price of wine without any indication to me is bad business (you can have a wine in Vienna for 3.80 or so). Plus, I could have left the wine behind, was not great at all, did not match the entrance soup, and the only reason i drank it finished was because I was scared I just poisoned myself with the mussels so was hoping the wine would help. Now I would say the lady removed the cost of one of our plates. Honestly, should have been both. We still ended up walking out with a just under 20 Euro bill for lunch special (around 9 Euros), one plate removed, and one glass of wine each for two people. Obscene. But worse is that they knew there was an issue with the mussels, and arrogantly continued to serve them. Conclusion: Looks nice, but uninspired = NON!

The restuarant is very close to the city center so I expect to pay a little more. I would have giving Cote Sud 5 stars, but the Cornish hen took about 20 minutes to prepare. I did not see this policy clearing noted anywhere. If I knew this ahead of time, I would not have stop in.
