I assumed our server was new based on his lack of confidence/knowledge but later overheard him say he had worked there 6 months. We had to remind him of things we ordered a couple of times. During the meal he dropped an entire stack of glass plates on the back of mine and my daughters chairs. Glass and food went everywhere but no one seemed concerned and no one checked to see if we had been injured. Luckily we weren't hurt. The biggest problem came at the end of the meal when we went to pay we were told they did not accept credit cards. We all felt this was not true and also did not have 100 euros with us. My husband was told go down to the bank. It's about 100 meters. We had no other choice and had to withdraw the money with an exchange rate fee of almost $30. This was the worst restaurant experience we have had during this trip. I would not recommend!

My most recent dining experience here was very seasonal. I began with a fine Wildkraftsuppe enhanced by the addition of a Kaspressknödel (think Tirolean cheese dumpling.) I ordered a vegetarian main course called a sweet potato and pumpkin goulasch over polenta. This was very tasty down to the very last bite! Oh yes, complimentary homemade bread is also included with the meal. There are at least two different types in the generous bread basket. In fact the only negative was that they could have used another waiter in the busy restaurant. Service was very slow at the beginning taking too long a time to first get a menu and then to order. But yet the service was friendly when they finally gave our table some attention. There are reasons why certain restaurants are very popular destinations today in Vienna. The waitress was nice but not overly friendly (although she ended up being one of the friendliest people on our trip in retrospect, turns out the Austrians -at least the one we met- are not particularly warm and fuzzy people.) We had the boiled beef which came with delicious potatoes, chive sour cream, and horseradish applesauce. This was super delicious and one of the Viennese specialties on our to-try list so we were happy to check it off! We also tried the turkey schnitzel which came with a "salad" (iceberg, a lot of tomatoes, and potatoes?) Prices were reasonable and atmosphere was cool. I'd recommend it for Viennese food or a drink!
