Service: Very friendly but no experience with waitressing. All the questions I had were answered with "I don't know" or " I never eaten that here before". It's not like they have a huge selection of Mexican food. Just seemed awkward when you ask the basic of questions of their menu. Food: Just because the decor and music that's being played is Mexican, don't assume real Mexican food is being served. Absolutely no taste in anything they served. The only good thing I tasted was the chips. The salsa was "Pace" picante sauce. Simply unacceptable!!! Conclusion: Stay away and go elsewhere for authentic Mexican cuisine. This place isn't even considered "TexMex"... No flavor, inexperienced waitresses and below average presentation of food will keep me away from this place and I strongly recommend you do the same. read more

Came back with the hubs for a quick lunch! Got these cheese enchiladas and taquitos (beef) a la carte. All were great, only thing I might change is adding a different cheese mix. The Hubs got the wet asada burrito again and loved it. The chips and salsa were fresh and good! We came last week and I tried the beef chimichanga and I really enjoyed it. I only wish there was more beef and cheese. So far everything we've tried we've enjoyed! Love this place! And our server is always great and welcoming. read more

They use Lard , I was told they didn't at frist, wonderful staff but I wrote a review early.. turns out I was wrong . It's hard to fine a place around this area with no reheating there food and I want the food to taste what it's suppose to be . So many Mexican food places reheat there food from the day before or to much add on's to make it take better. I want it to take authentic, fresh and no add ons. I don't mind add on on the side, but I want it already coming that way, it tells me it's fresh. I would give it a 5 star if they made their salsa home made that the reason for 3 star is the Salas. The Happy hour everyDay for a pitcher of Beer and the Prices are very good compare to other places! We had heard great things about La Villa tacos so we gave them a try. Having had so many great tacos in So Cal I have to say that these were a big disappointment. Aside from the fact that they are very expensive, the quality was seriously lacking. Unlike so many pictures on previous reviews, our crispy shredded beef tacos had very little beef, virtually no lettuce and a bit of cheese. Very sad considering they were over $4 each! Quick lunch spot with good food and great prices! It's a small dine-in restaurant. Don't expect fancy, but do expect great service. Food has come out quick which is perfect for lunch breaks during work hours. Lunch combos get you food at under $10. I've had their tortilla soup, shredded beef taco, and sope plate. I have been here on several occasions and every time the food was just so-so. First of all, they serve very small portions for the prices charged. There are other local known mexican food joints that serve 2-3x the amount of food for the same price. The food is bland and you can tell it is not home made. Honestly tastes bland. Oh yeah, and the cheese in the enchiladas is alwasy cold and never melted. The thing that saves this place is the incredible service you get! The girls who work there are always charming, entertaining, and very focused on you. Nothing needs to be changed regarding the service, just the food. Came her for take out on taco Tuesday, yeah that's right Cinco de mayo! Order 3 carne asada street tacos, really good and it was happy hour so they where cheap. I also order a fish taco, it was okay but the fish was a tad rough and didnt like the taste of the breading, the sauce they use is okay but I would stick to the street tacos, was a bit busy of course but I would recommend you phone in your order. We were looking for a place to eat after visiting my mom at Forest Lawn and most of the time we're driving out to Barranca st or nearby places but since we all come from opposite places it's tough on the commute. This little place is pretty close to cemetery. As you're exiting Forest Lawn, keep going straight passing the freeway entrances and turn right at the stop sign. It was about 3/4 of a mile on the right hand side where the Vons shopping center was. Its seat yourself but they come to you. Very warm and friend location. Food was good too, had plenty of Mexican so walking in I actually had low expectations but was very pleased. I was very happy with my meal. The Chile relleno tasted how I like them to taste and this is hard for me to find. Will definitely have to come and check them out again when I'm in the area. read more

This is the absolute worst Mexican food I have ever had in my life! Mexican food is my favorite cuisine and I've eaten at numerous Mexican establishments. I cannot call this Mexican food, sorry. How this place stayed in business for over 30 years is absolutely beyond me. I'm stumped. My guess is people in the area that don't know any better just rely on the convenience factor. They use lard in their beans, food is salty, chicken and meat taste old, and cheese is lumpy, and rubbery. Is it even cheese? Who knows. It's also bright orange in color and reminds me of melted plastic. They also don't give chips for takeout. Nothing about this place is good. At. All. Yuck! Avoid at all costs. read more

Oh, La Villa Kitchen, how I miss you. I grew up near here and have eaten here so many times I have considered changing my middle name to "La Villa." Over the years I have introduced many to La Villa's delicious homemade chips and salsa (the salsa is still my favorite on the planet). I still compare other Mexican restaurant's chicken enchiladas with rice and beens (my staple) to this place. It is nothing fancy - just some simple delicious home cooking. I have seen this place through a couple remodels but the food and service has always been consistent. Simple and consistent. Tonight was my first time trying out La Villa Kitchen. This place is one of my uncles favorite places, which is why we all dined here tonight. I ordered the crunchy shell potato taco and chicken taco. The crunchy shell wasn't too oily and the chicken wasn't too dry or flavorless. Both tasted pretty good and the prices were even better. My girlfriend ordered the carnitas soft shell tacos, and they were pretty bad. Maybe some of the worst carnitas we've both had. The carnitas was practically pork jerky. The tortillas were terrible on the soft shell too. There was also a huge ligament/cartilage in the carnitas taco. If your gonna run a Mexican restaurant in California you can't be slipping on those things. The chips and salsa weren't bad though. Overall, it wasn't terrible, I'd just recommend you order the crunchy shell tacos and nothing else. read more

Not what it used to be. Been going here for years when we lived in Via Verde and still go back when we are in the area. Very disappointed this time as all employees are new and need a lot of training. It took 20 minutes before we were waited on even though much of the tables were empty. The tables and floors where dirty and not wiped off. Took a long time to get our food and believe the cooks are new also. Food was only warm and the tacos were burnt. The enchiladas were dry and tasteless. Not sure if we will try La Villa Kitchen again. read more

I tell people that I'm not the real foodie type because for the first 20 years of my life I went to the same restaurant and ordered the same thing: Chile verde burrito from Ernie Jr.'s in Eagle Rock. Well, they closed years ago and I have not been able to find a place that compares until now. La Villa's Green Chile burrito has filled a void missing in my life for too long. First time here. We ordered the shrimp fajitas and fish tacos. Food was good, but service was even better. We were greeted with a warm smile and kindness. We informed our hostess/ server it was our first time here and she quickly let us know about the menu and specials. Best of all, she recommended the wine margaritas which were delicious! I also tried the tortilla soup. It wasn't the best I've tried, lacked in flavor but I was happy that it wasn't made with chicken. Honestly, the food here is good, not great. To be honest, this restaurant is not the most authentic Mexican food that you can find; but if you are craving Mexican food, it's close enough. It's a walk in, seat yourself type of place and was not extremely crowded during a weekday lunch when my co worker and I walked in. After studying the menu, I decided on the wet carne asada burrito served with beans and rice. I added cheese and sour cream to my burrito (extra charge of course) but totally worth it. Before the food was served, our waitress brought out some chips and salsa to snack on. The chips were flavorful, but a little stale. I could definitely tell that they were not fresh or made in house. The salsa was tasty and fresh, but was too mild for my liking. My burrito was served and man was it huge. I was so excited to dig in. I really enjoyed the flavors and texture of the asada. The meat was super tender and full of flavor. I found myself drenching the burrito in Tapatio hot sauce because I was lacking that kick that I really wanted in my burrito. Nonetheless, I gobbled the whole thing down before I knew it. I also enjoyed the red sauce and melted cheese on top of the burrito (added a nice crispiness). My bill totaled at about 15 bucks with a drink and my entree. Not a bad deal for the large portion that was served. The service was good. Our waitress replenished our drinks, chips and salsa throughout the meal. She was friendly and made small talk with us while taking our orders and making suggestions.
