Upon seeing that they were permanently closing on Friday, we decided to order their food for one last time. We ordered the 2 for $32 brisket dinner, which was delicious. My wife got the one with the yams and mean beans, whereas I got the one with collard greens and mean beans. They gave us cornbread last time, but this time it wasn't included in our meal. They will be missed, and if you got to eat their food, you were fortunate.
One of my forever go to's. I've chosen them as my caterer for special occasions and can trust the menu for any explorations outside of my usual order. NEVER a disappointment. Recently tried their BBQ chicken special...2 for $25. Generous portions. TENDER smoked chicken falling off the bone, creamy cheesy Mac and cheese with savory white beans. Able to feed a family of four for $50 is a plus with leftovers (for some of us). Also tried their Brownie Double Chocolate Cake that was good. You MUST also try their Ribs, Briskets, Tacos and Bowls....really just try everything on the menu. The service is always like a family reunion. Great hugs, smiles, conversation. The owner Ms. Vivian is a jewel and her staff match her lovely energy. The new location for the restaurant is small, but seating is available for approximately 6 parties to eat simultaneously no problem. Some of the absolute BEST BBQ in Buffalo. 1000% recommend.
The brisket wasn't my favorite but they make an amazing pulled pork! The corn bread was moist and sweet and I really enjoyed it. The Mac n cheese was flavorful but had a gritty texture to them like I said in my previous review. The sides were hit and miss. The baked beans were way too saucy like I was eating straight up bbq sauce. The apple kale slaw seemed to be missing the apples and kale was more of a decoration, not what I expected but still good. The yams were alright, a bit too much seasoning that overpowered the natural sweetness. The Limoncello compote cake was fantastic. It was really light and refreshing. The girl who took my order was a gem. The entire staff was amazing. Everyone was really friendly. The place had a few tables set up with menus and roses. Really cute. Cean too! As much as I enjoyed the pulled pork idk if I'd go out of my way to go back.
It was nice to join Vivian and Pastor Robinson celebrate their return to the original location where it all started! The place we fell in love with the best BBQ in WNY! So glad God helped them decide to stay in the area! Thank you for many more years of awesome BBQ and southern goods!
Cool spot located inside of a community center. Def a local hidden gem. I've heard about it for ages and finally was able to make it over. Delicious bbq, come early if you want to try their ribs. I was able to try their brisket and ox tail. Both tender and delicious. I was not able to eat their sides due to food allergies. The owner is also the chef and she's friendly and outgoing. She went out of her way to greet us and check in.

Well, I don't know how Vivian and her staff does it or how it's even possible, but after seven years, La Verdad is better than ever! I had ribs that were giant with tender flavorful meat that fell off the bone. The sauce was perfect like only La Verdad can do. It's impossible to make a wrong choice with the sides. I had the beans and Gouda Mac and Cheese. It seems wrong to call them just that because they are like no other that you've ever tasted before. Every bite makes you shake your head in disbelief. Vivian is the Chef and she's a woman that knows what's she's doing. More than that, she makes the restaurant glow with pure joy. It makes perfect sense that her place is on a street called "Lovejoy". I witnessed her greeting every person that came through the door like they were her own family. She kept popping out of the kitchen with little samples of dishes that she made. Black Eyed Peas was the first one. To be honest, I would've never thought about ordering them, but these had a flavor that was off the charts using seasoning and meats like I've never tasted before. Then next came a little sample of greens that had a kick that both surprised me and delighted me. Next time I'll be ordering both. Seven years ago Vivian wowed me with her bubbly enthusiasm. If you're having a down day, a visit with her will surely straighten you out. Her energy is definitely infectious. It's transferred to her entire staff. They are just as sweet and friendly. If you love barbecue, this is the place worthy of the trip from Lockport, and that's the rock solid "truth".
Food and hospitality was amazing. We took a ride share here based on the yelp reviews and were not disappointed. Hard to pick a favorite-all of the meats were perfect-brisket/burnt ends/pulled pork. And the sides were all so good-the Gouda Mac and cheese, greens and kale slaw were delicious. Small seating area but everybody was so nice-kinda felt like family. Will definitely come back if we visit again!
Found this great place on Yelp and so glad we did! Ordered the stretchmark sandwich with burnt ends and a side of bourbon mashed yams they were both fantastic!! The very nice owner came out and brought some samples for us to try of other things on the menu. Definitely need to come back and try more things. Great service and super nice staff!!

Location was a bit hard to find because they are in the back of a church building, I believe. We went here during restaurant week in the venting and they were almost sold out of everything so definitely call first or get there early! The two of us shared the big bowl and it was delicious! More than enough food for the two of us. It was a great way to try all of their meats so highly recommend!
Pre-ordered the double dino rib dinner last Thursday for pick up on Friday. Enjoyed a nice dino rib and burnt end dinner at home with some squash and salad. Super delicious!
"Melt in your mouth goodness" and this is all TRUE! This, the name - la verdad - means the truth in Spanish. Befitting! What a fantastic smoked meat festival for your taste buds! Everything we ordered was just delicious. Prepared with love and attention to detail by Vivian, served by very kind and sweet server Mia. Thank you, thank you! My daughter and I (along with our leashed puppy) sat on the open air patio out back. Such a wonderful seating arrangement with plenty of shade if you don't like to be in the direct sun. We ran into fellow Yelpers Jurel and Tai, also seated on the patio. Such a pleasant surprise! After over a year of virtual Yelping it was great to actually see each other! It only got better, on some Saturdays a band plays soulful jazz sounds on the patio for the diners listening pleasure. This was our lucky Saturday! Call ahead to know if the band is playing per our server. Daughter ordered the pulled chicken sandwich. She didn't save me much to nibble on! She really loved the smoky chicken with a side of beans. She ordered the homemade ginger ale, upon recommendation of Yelper Einas. Yes, so refreshing on a warm summer day. You can taste the real ginger. I ordered the mixed vegetables rice bowl. I upgraded for a few dollars more to the burnt ends rice bowl. I really wanted to taste the barbecued beef - the rage of La Verdad! Yummy! Smokey! Tender and delicious pieces of brisket on top of very nicely seasoned veggies and rice. Portion was big. I had a decent amount to take home. Then we ordered more meals to take home for dinner later. To share with friends who would be visiting. Got to spread the BBQ love! Vivian came out to greet us before we departed. She's awesome, friendly and genuine. We wish her well. She's got culinary talent and most importantly, a loving heart. Take home meals were also fantastic! Packed in such a way by our server so that we could assemble the sandwiches at home to prevent the rolls from getting soggy with the meat and sides. The stretch Mark slider with creamy Gouda Mac and cheese, kale slaw, was a hit. Went really nice with the Smokey beef brisket. This was my favorite menu item out of the few we tried. I'll definitely be back! What a joy!

After making the list of being #19 on the best BBQ in the country, I knew I had to make my way back for some more food. And after eating, I can definitely agree that this is some of the best food in the country. Ms. Vivian is a saint among us as she is not only a great chef but she is one of the kindest people I have ever met. She remembers every customer, things about their life, family, and genuinely cares about everyone. All of this love goes into her hardwork and dedication to her craft and community. The food is absolutely incredible in each in every bite. The brisket here is my favorite whether it is on a sandwich or rice bowl. Both are great options depending on how you're feeling. The jalapeno mac and cheese is delicious and not too spicy even for the kids. If you're looking for a great local business, this is the benchmark of the community as far as great service with even better food. Ms. Vivian said she plans on doing some pop ups and things coming up so I will stay tuned. read more
La Verdad is my favorite bbq place in WNY! The food is out of this world, the portions are great, and the service is exceptional. They also run great specials, a the portions are great for the price too. During my most recent visit, I ordered the brisket dinner which came with a roll and two sides, so I got the kaleslaw and the jalapeño mac. Everything was delicious and I saved half of it so I could enjoy it a second time! The jalapeño mac had a perfect amount of heat and was so cheesy, the kaleslaw was seriously addicting, I could eat it everyday, and the brisket was smoked to perfection. When you walk in theres not many tables. We went in and ordered at the counter and waited for our food to take to go. The woman who took our order was so friendly and patient. We have never been here so it took us a while to order and she helped us through the menu! The have lunch and dinner specials! We did the buy 2 bowls and get one free. Everything was hot, delicious, and fresh! They actually smoke their own meats at home. The only reason i would give one less star is because they were running out of things which can be expected if you get more business than usual, but got it back for how delicious they are! To say that I thought the food here was delicious would only be a mild understatement!!!! It was unexpectedly delicious. You know the kind of good that when you taste it you look at each other and stop and stare and say "wow this is really amazing ." That kind of good that you can't stop taking bites of one dish to get a bite of the other and when you start eating that one you don't want to stop to try the next one.... That is how good our dinner at La Verdad was. We started with a peach and mint mock tail and home made ginger ale. The menu said their ginger ale was really good. But there must be a better way to describe how good it was. It's the perfect beverage for cleansing the palette and digesting food. The peach and mint mock tail was like a lite refreshing smoothie though more peach than mint. We got: Bourbon mashed yams Benzinger Gouda Mac and cheese Kale apple slaw Corn bread Vegetable rice bowl Pulled chicken rice bowl Banana pudding Pineapple banana pudding Curry garbanzo spinach rice bowl with shrimp Yup pretty much all we could get to fit in the car and in our belly's. This is a meal that requires me to get a thesaurus. I simply can't tell you how good it looked and smelled but tasted so much better than we ever even expected. Even the kale apple slaw was the perfect pallet cleanser between bites, and I hate kale. We brought home so much food , enough for several more meals all of which we are looking forward too. The servers were lovely and attentive even when it got very busy. There was an onslaught of customers at the dining room tables as well as waiting to get their pick up orders. They servers even brought food out to people's cars as soon as it was ready. The owners were busy between the kitchen and the smoker. Bringing fresh barbecue from the smoker for the kitchen and making her apologies for any delays we might be having. How ever the food and the service were well worth any small wait. I most certainly think this will be a restaurant that is well worth driving the 20-30 minutes in to fulfill my cravings that I'm absolutely certain will happen as soon as my leftovers are gone!! read more
Amazing food! Burnt ends to die for! That about sums up our visit but let me explain more. We had lunch there last week and felt welcome as soon as we walked inside. After being seated we were immediately given water and yummy seasoned popcorn to enjoy while reviewing the menu. I ordered the burnt end rice bowl and my husband got the pulled pork sandwich. We also ordered a side of apple kale coleslaw. To drink, pop for me and homemade ginger beer for him. They do have a great looking mocktail menu which we didn't explore on this visit. The burnt end rice bowl was not just a rice bowl with burnt ends sprinkled on top. No, it was loaded with tender melt in your mouth burnt ends! Probably more burnt ends than rice. I could only finish half of it even if I was tempted to keep eating because it tasted so good. The barbecue sauce didn't overpower the meat but gave it a perfect flavor. The apple kale coleslaw had a nice refreshing taste balancing the rest of the meal. Ha ha, that I'll try making at home but don't think I'll get her dressing right. Vivian, the owner,is a sweetheart. She makes sure everyone feels home and welcome in her restaurant making a point to personally talk to every guest. Only thing that beats her food is her hospitality. Before leaving we were talking about grits and suddenly she said, hold on! Ran into the kitchen and brought back a bowl of her Philly cheesesteak grits for us to try. Stopped in for a late lunch. I ordered the Pulled Pork sandwich topped with Barbecue Sauce, Gouda Mac and Cheese and Apple-Kale Slaw. I also ordered Housemade non-alcoholic Ginger Beer and we shared a side of Apple-Kale Slaw. The meal was delicious. It was nice to be able to chat with the owner, Vivian. She has done a great job converting the former Speak Easy Bar into La Verdad Cafe, a popular Buffalo area restaurant. The menu is extensive and they have the most friendly and helpful staff. Vivian, the owner, always finds the time to come out of the kitchen to say hello and answer any questions people may have. If you want some great food and a friendly atmosphere, La Verdad Cafe is the place to go for eat-in or takeout. read more

Wow! Great bbq, ambience and outstanding service! I had a pulled pork slider with gouda mac&cheese, kale slaw on a small bun with chips. My husband had a stretch mark brisket sandwich with jalapeño mac&cheese, kale slaw and a tasty grilled bun. We also had a side of beans and their bourbon smashed yams(only available over the weekend). The location was redesigned from an old bar and they did a beautiful job maximizing the space. They have tables inside as well as an outdoor space, which was a garage refurbished to a cute little outdoor bistro area. The food was so good. The yams were like a Thanksgiving delight from my family dinners with the sweet caramelized taste and a light bourbon flair. The pulled pork slider was so tasty but the toppings elevated it to a whole other level. The beans were sweet and smokey with the right amount of bite to them...very good. The brisket was extremely tender with just the right amount of smoke. The sandwich was outstanding like the pulled pork one. The BBQ sauce was definitely on the sweet side. If that I not something you like, you may want to ask it to be on the side. We can't wait to try more menu items in the future! read more

To my non-Spanish speaking friends "la verdad" means "the truth" and listen, I see no lies here! This is truly the most amazing smoking soul food I've EVER had and I will do my best to recapture my experience because I was on cloud 9. I ate the most delicious chicken and pulled pork with rice that just felt like a big warm hug from my favorite grandmother. I also tried a refreshing Apple Kaleslaw that was not too sweet, not too creamy, but the perfect balance to the tender, juicy, smokey meats. My favorites were their chickpea dip that tasted better than any chicken wing dip I've ever had (and it didn't even have chicken, I know don't come for me) but this was phenomenal. And can we please give around of applause for the Gouda Mac & Cheese. It was perfectly seasoned and smokey. Paired with a juicy sausage that had a small kick to it. I don't remember the flavor lemonade I tried but it was also so refreshing and excellent in taste. All the food melted in my mouth and made me question if I ever even had soul food like this. La Verdad is really the truth when it comes to this smoking bbq game. Be ready! read more
I don't how it is that I have yet to write a review for La Verdad Cafe. I've eaten here many times, most being take-out. This past Saturday I finally had the opportunity to dine-in again. The first time I came here I also dined-in and had The Bridge, which is a pulled pork sandwich topped with mac and cheese and a little of their Kale Apple Slaw. I can't get enough of this Kale Apple Slaw and I have gotten an 8 oz side every time I have been here since. I've tried replicating this at home but haven't come close yet. On that visit, I also met Vivian, the owner, who is sweet and hospitable as can be. She came out to me with a small ramakin and said she wanted me to try her brisket. Wow! As much as I enjoyed the pulled pork I regretted my decision not to get that brisket upon tasting that sample. My standard dish from that point on has been the brisket bowl. Their BBQ sauce is house made and honestly my favorite BBQ sauce I have ever had. It's just a perfect balance of smoke, sweetness, and spice. The consistency is also exactly what I want in a BBQ sauce, not too thin or thick. Just right! If she starts bottling this sauce for sale I'd always keep some on hand and possibly drink it right from the bottle! I decided that my boyfriend needed to try this place this past weekend and we were in for a pleasant surprise! They are only open past 5 two days a week, one of those being Friday when they feature their ribs. We were visiting for lunch on a Saturday but it just so happened that they were still offering their ribs. THANK YOU to the employee that told him this! We ordered the half rack of ribs with brisket and one side. We chose the mac and cheese and I also got my standard 8 oz of Kale Apple Slaw. These were the largest pork ribs that either of us have ever seen with fork tender meat that just fell off the bone. Fantastic! It was a challenge, but we finished the whole platter. When our server returned to our table she was shocked. I think we surprised the couple at a neighboring table too. But these ribs were just hands down the best plate of BBQ either of us have ever had the privilege of devouring. As much as I loved the brisket even more than I liked the pulled pork, the ribs even outshined the brisket. We also enjoyed two house-made, non-alcoholic beverages. He ordered the peach lemonade which included frozen peaches and I had the Ginger Beer which was the best Ginger Beer I have ever had as well. This place just continues to impress! An absolute gem! I was housesitting in the area and looked up places to eat nearby during lunch time and found the reviews for La Verdad. The food sounded amazing so I took a chance and I'm SO glad I did! Ordering over the phone was super easy, and the person who took my order was so wonderful to talk to and was great at answering my questions when I was stuck between two sandwiches. This was before they partnered with appetit, so I think it's even easier to order now since you have the option to do it online. I'm really anxious about phone calls, so I can't sing the praises enough of the woman I talked to when ordering, as she made it such a breeze and a pleasant situation, which I find is often lacking in most restaurants. I stopped by for pick up and the meal came with chips and a can of soda, which was perfect for lunch - and well priced, too boot. The place is super cute and it was easy to park. I popped in, dropped my name, and they already had my order ready. It was the *hardest* drive back with the absolute DELICIOUS smells wafting through my car. Torturous but so well worth the wait! "Burnt ends stretchmark" is what I ordered and it was downright heavenly. The Mac n cheese on the sandwich was so creamy, even the parts that fell out of the sandwich while eating were quickly gobbled up. The kaleslaw? WOW! Hands down the best slaw I have ever had... ...but the true star of the show? The meat! The sauce! On a continuous mission to support local businesses, the palate requested barbeque tonight. Chains won't do, and Fat Bobs is not inspiring. We decided to try a small local place, based on amazing reviews. There is no way to give La Verdad it's due. Without question the best barbeque I have ever eaten in Buffalo, by a runaway. The only thing better than the food at La Verdad was the service! Waiting was fun and entertaining, as the boss of the front was talking up everybody, making jokes, and ensuring the time passed instantaneously. Since becoming a part of the Yelp Elite Squad in Buffalo a few years ago, I remember seeing pictures and great reviews for this little BBQ joint called La Verdad Café. I quickly bookmarked them but never made it there, for one reason or another. But in May 2021, I FINALLY took the opportunity to try this place and now I'm kicking myself for waiting so long! On a warm Friday evening in May, around 4:45pm, I arrived and was able to find a parking spot in a small parking lot across the street. Surprisingly, there was a good amount of parking available on the road but I opted for the parking lot since I remembered hearing that La Verdad Café has been doing takeout since COVID started in 2020. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a nice young woman who let me take a seat at the bar. Afterwards, she came over and gave me the food and drink menus and gave me a few moments to browse while I sipped on some water (with lemon!). The ambiance inside was very comfy and relaxing and everything was well maintained and clean. The staff working seemed genuinely happy to be there and seemed to be having a great time. I placed my order and was told the wait would be about 20-25 minutes, which was perfectly fine with me, I just wanted to sit and relax for a bit and take in the scene, munching on complimentary Cajun-seasoned popcorn and sipping my birch beer. Then, a little over 20 minutes later, my food arrived. Now, something I truly did not understand was how generous they are with their portions. As all of the food was placed in front of me, I knew I wasn't walking (or rolling) away hungry. For dinner, I ordered the following: The StretchMark Brisket (slider/sandwich), which was topped with The Benzinger Gouda Mac & Cheese, KaleApple Slaw, and their bourbon barbecue sauce. I also ordered the Burnt Ends StretchMark (slider/sandwich), which was topped with The Benzinger Gouda Mac & Cheese, KaleApple Slaw, and their bourbon barbecue sauce. Both of these sandwiches also came with potato chips on the side. In addition to these sandwiches, I ordered two sides to go with them - a small (8 oz.) KaleApple Slaw and a small (8 oz.) Regent Holla Mac & Cheese (jalapenos). This was a meal fit for a king! Where to begin... The StretchMark Brisket was amazing. The brisket was tender and hot, cooked/smoked perfectly, easily some of the best brisket I've had, and that's coming from someone who lived in Kansas City, has travelled to Austin, TX, and St. Louis, MO. The Burnt End StretchMark was even more amazing as it was jam-packed with those tender, smoked pillows of meat. Their bourbon barbecue sauce atop both sandwiches was excellent, creating an excellent blanket over the meat with a little sweetness. The KaleApple Slaw and Benzinger Gouda Mac & Cheese on top of both sandwiches was perfect by adding a little creaminess and texture, contained in the soft, fresh rolls. The KaleApple Slaw side was excellent, a nice and mild taste with a little sweetness/tartness from the Granny Smith apples and it wasn't water-y, a nice balance of soft and crunchy textures. The Regent Holla Mac & Cheese (jalapenos) side was rich and creamy with a little bit of pepper/spice on top and slices of jalapenos within, but it wasn't overbearingly hot, just a nice little kick. As I mentioned earlier, the portions are very generous and I did not walk away hungry or disappointed. Somehow, I managed to eat everything except for all of the potato chips that came with both sandwiches - I wanted to make sure I had room for everything else. Also, I felt the price for my meal was incredibly fair for the portion size and excellent quality! I had a great experience here and felt so welcome. It was great to meet the owner, Vivian, and talk about my meal and give her praise for how awesome it all was! I definitely will be coming back again with family and friends as I want them to have the great experience I did and also because I'm already craving the brisket and burnt ends again. read more
This place was amazing! I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon with my mom and my sister to check it out. Everything we tried was delicious. I would definitely recommend the brisket, pineapple smoothie and the jalapeño Mac & cheese. Oh and that popcorn they start you off with!! What's in that stuff LOL?. It's incredible! Service was friendly and this place was SPOTLESS! The vibe was great and the owner stopped by to greet us and chat for a bit. I can't rave enough about my experience. My mom has already brought my dad back for dinner because she was so impressed! read more

Wow I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE! Can I just say when I arrived I felt so welcomed. Everyone was so incredibly nice and the interior is so comfortable and clean. The bar area is so cute and goes so well with the theme of the place. As far as the food is, I got take out. I had the mini stretchmark slider and in my opinion that slider was not small, it was the size of a normal sandwich so I couldn't even imagine what the normal size looks like. The Mac and cheese on the sandwich is some of the best I've had. The beans are also so delicious and had a smoky flavor which I really liked. I love how they pay attention to the details here. They include a mint and hand wipe with your order. Previously when I went here the owner was so personable and she gave us a side of Mac and cheese just to try. I can't recommend this place enough!
