We started with their focaccia which was hot and fresh, it was so yummy. I chose the Sacchetti Al Tartufo, and my partner had the Casarecce Bolognese. Went here to celebrate my bf's dad's bday and it was a hit! Very attentive staff and the atmosphere is cozy and romantic - love the fairy lights I got the tagliatelle al Pollo and that was my fvaourite dish of the night! Everything went so well together, especially when there's a bite of the sundried tomato! The arancini was yummy but I expected the crust to have a bit more crunch. I tried my bf's pizza and it was ok - nothing to rave about. I also got a mocktail (forgot the name) and it was yummy as well. Very nice restaurant, with friendly staff and great portions! I've been to La Vecchia twice now, and both times have been lovely. The entire staff is pleasant and genial, and the food is consistently good. The shape of the restaurant can be a little bit awkward. The first time I was here, I sat toward the back of the restaurant, which felt a little bit narrow. The second time, I was near the front, which was much more typical. Both times I've been here, I've been completely full. This place stands out among Italian places in that it serves quality ingredients, but actually gives you enough to be satisfied. I overall liked my experience here! It's nice and cozy, but not overly fancy. The ambiance is a bit dark. The menu has plenty of appetizers, pasta, and pizza options. The best thing we had was the sacchetti al tartufo pasta - it was rich, creamy, and delicious. I also really liked the tagliere di salumi (meat & cheese board) - the bread was surprisingly amazing and tasted really good with the fruit jam that it came with. The rest of the items were decent to good: - branzino alla griglia (nothing outstanding, I've had better fish elsewhere) - gioia pizza (sounded really good but tasted average) - rigatoni romani (it was a bit soggy and the flavours blended together in a way that didn't really make me enjoy the dish) The service was nice and friendly. Came here for brunch with a friend and the service was amazing!! Such a fun time with a very Italian server named Alessandro who was attentive and such a character. The entire vibe of the restaurant is cozy with gorgeous vintage photos of Sophia Loren framed on the walls. For drinks we had mimosas, one pineapple and one mango, and a cappuccino. I was a part of a group of 10 early on a Saturday night. Decor is beautiful. Because of design it will become noisy. Attending to 10 people takes finesse. Waiter announces that he will start with drinks. And immediate goes to end of table by wall and works his way to the aisle. My wife and I are at the other end of table. He takes orders from except us. Then the drinks/wine starts being served and finally can get his attention and asked to order drinks. He gives me a little attitude that I didn't order when he was taking orders for the table. I pointed out that he never asked us. Food was served to 9 people in a timely manner The 10th who was the birthday girl had to wait almost 10 minutes for hers to be served. Yikes. I had the veal in a lemon sauce. There was nothing wrong with the cook but it just wasn't for me. I'm deducting 2 stars from 5. One for the attitude and one because everyone was not served at the same time. They also served a foccoia with this tremendously delicious red pepper in oil topper that I tried & it burned my head off & I LOVED IT! Our server "Alex" was a solid server. A few days back I went to this place in uptown and I had to share my experience here because everything was perfect! You'll feel like you've stepped into Italy as soon as you enter this place because of the cobblestone work inside and not to mention the staff who are amicable and will ensure you have an authentic Italian dining experience. We were hungry so we wanted to try their main dishes and ordered their four cheese pizza and tagliatelle al pollo to share. The tagliatelle was perfectly blended with pesto and sundried tomatoes- with the parmesan on top, it tasted delicious! The pizza was also top notch and I wished we tried the meat variations. Maybe next time! They also have a very large collection of wine that you can pair with your food that I'm surely going to try next time I'm there. We love this place; it is by far our favorite neighborhood restaurant (in a neighborhood with a lot of restaurants!). We are only in Toronto for a month over summer (long-distance family), and always eat here 4 or 5 times. The kids love the margarita pizza, and we love just about everything else. I tried the branzino tonight for the first time, and it was one of the best branzinos I've ever had, cooked perfectly, buttery, with a crunchy skin. The staff is always friendly and nice, and the restaurant fills up by about 7 pm. Pretty clear to us why it's popular. We look forward to coming back every year. read more

Party of two, we ordered the clematis and white wine mussels for appetizers and the chicken pizza for main course. The muscles were so so I think the tomato sauce would probably have been more flavorful, but the calamari was to die for delicious flavourful and had a grill flavor. The two appetizer was were quite filling with the side of bread when the pizza came, we were quite full however, we tried it, and it was delicious. It took the remainder home and had it the next day warmed it up in an air fryer, and it was just as good, the service was good however we felt like we were constantly being interrupted because too many people came by to ask us too many times how the food was before sometimes we had even tried it. Our waiter was very friendly and pleasant however I don't think he knew the best recommendations on the menu and the ingredients and some of the items, the ambiance is cute place with beautiful decoration dim lighting very nice bar. If I could give a review based only on the atmosphere and service this would without a doubt be a 5 star experience, unfortunately that's not the case. This turned out to be the biggest disappointment of the year for me when it comes to dining out. The food was subpar at best and only decent for the amount that it cost. Since we were sat in the basement of the restaurant and all the food was being run downstairs most of our food came promptly but was cold by the time it got to us, if it was ever hot. The appetizers of grilled calamari, bruschetta, and 'focaccia', were a mixed bag. While the calamari came on a sizzling plate with roasted peppers and was absolutely delicious, the overpriced bruschetta was only ok and was only two pieces. We also had to check in with our server to make sure we had received our focaccia because we thought what we had received was just bread; it looked like Texas toast with a piece of rosemary in it and although it was good it was definitely not focaccia. For mains we got the linguine mare, rigatoni with mushrooms and chicken with rose sauce and goat cheese, veal with cream sauce and mushrooms, and the special of lamb with tomato sauce atop mashed potatoes. The linguine was alright and the seafood was a little rubbery, the rigatoni was cold, the lamb was 50/50, personally I enjoyed the sauce and how tender it was (fell right off the bone) while others in my party thought there was too much sauce, and the veal was lacking in flavour. For dessert we got the trio of desserts including vanilla ice cream (for the birthday girl), torta, and tiramisu. Dessert was the saving grace. The ice cream was simple vanilla ice cream, the torta was rich and accompanied by a raspberry sauce that complimented each other perfectly, and the tiramisu was light but creamy. Being a crowded Saturday night we were happy to be brought downstairs to the more private dining area. With its beautiful cobblestone walls and arched entrance it was a beautiful place to take in a meal. By the end of our meal we were alone in the room and it felt like a nice little getaway from the bustle of upstairs. With pictures of Sofia Lauren and others adorning the walls upstairs it was decorated beautifully. Our server Lindsey was amazing and funny! Huge shout out! Avoid the pizza, get the pasta. Always a fan of the ragu (meat sauce) pasta it's done so well, fresh tomato sauce, great pasta noodles and...well that's about it you don't need to elevate hard with Italian cuisine. I really had high expectations because I've heard so many great things about La Vecchia. All the staff were great and attentive. Service was really slow. Had to wait over 30 mins for a mojito and the food was pretty bland in comparison to other authentic Italian spots I've been to. Quite a few people in my group agreed their food required salt so I wasn't the only one. Would I return? After a Sunday appointment, we decided to see what the neighborhood had for brunch possibilities and saw this busy spot. We thought we would try our luck and we were able to snag a seat. Such a wonderful surprise when you don't plan where to go and it completely works out! I have been meaning to try this place for some time and finally got to go there for my birthday with a friend. Heads up folks, this place gets packed on weekends and even if you have a reservation - take it as a mild suggestion since tables may not be freed up by the time you arrive. Come earlier to avoid being disappointed. Fortunately, my friend and I were in no rush and I just loved the packed vibes of the place since it reminded me of my recent trip to Italy. After waiting 20 mins or so past our reservation time, the gentleman came out to inform us that our table was ready. My friend got the pizza and I got what appeared to be the most popular mushroom pasta per google pics and we were both extremely happy with our meals. I want to point out something about the service - I read over some of the other reviews and I think people just either take themselves or this place too seriously. The gentlemen who own/run the place do tend to keep and eye and so some may feel like it is staring but I like that there was eyes on the house at all times. They make sure nothing slips through the cracks and it helps to engage in conversation with them as well, you don't have to wait for them to approach you. I did just that - chatted with the young gentleman at the door with some small talk and at first he can come across stern but he was very kind and took care of us for my birthday desserts and recommended a digestif after dinner which was divine and he was not wrong when he said it would be fantastic. I had a great experience here but I know that I really took that into my own hands. It is a 2 way exchange and we as patrons need to get off our high entitled horse and not punish businesses for every little thing. If the food is rubbish then of course there is no salvaging a yelp review but nit picking on silliness is likely the reason why you didn't enjoy this fine establishment in the first place. The staff is amazingly pleasant, the interior is warm, rustic, and twinkly, and the feel is comforting. They have good wines, too. The food is delicious. The pizza has just the right crisp and flavour, the pasta is mmm. Also, surprisingly reasonable for the quality of food and dine in experience. A VERY RUDE, ILL-MANNERED BIG MAN working in this restaurant!!! We don't know if he was the owner, manager, waiter or busboy. We are three people looking forward to a nice and welcoming Valentine's dinner in our new neighborhood since we recently arrived in Canada. The restaurant was fully-booked. We completely understand the part that we should have a reservation, however, it is also not uncommon for walk-in customers. We were ready to pay for the service like everybody else. If he had said that we can no longer be accommodated, we would have left just like in the first restaurant (Stock Bar) we went to. So this big man gives us a table suited for two customers and adds another chair which was located in the basement in what he said as "dungeon & dragons". We sat down but we noticed that it was next to a pathway where staff and customers kept bumping on our chairs, so we politely requested that we could be transferred to another table if one becomes available. After a few minutes, a lady staff informed us that she had found a table. The table we were transferred to was at the end of the room by the wall where you had to squeeze in to sit down, so since it was uncomfortable, the displeasure in our faces naturally-showed. We were talking to the lady staff and voicing out (in a calm way) our honest opinion on the table we were in but we were also ready to accept it. Then suddenly out of nowhere Mr. VERY RUDE, ILL-MANNERED BIG MAN, came forward to us and started YELLING at us and saying why were we not happy after he gave us a table. We were completely taken by surprise since this is the first time we encountered an establishment whose business is to provide good food and service to its customers. Prior to transferring to the other table, we were told that the chef will only accept full orders (i.e. no appetizers first). With this type of service, we came to a conclusion that this restaurant was only FOR EARNING MONEY for its business and FORSAKING GOODWILL TO CUSTOMERS. So we made a decision to leave, not because of the table we were in, but after that incident with Mr. VERY RUDE, ILL-MANNERED BIG MAN. As we exited the restaurant, we saw him by the door, and we said "never again" and he said "hope not". And then there was more....while we were OUTSIDE the restaurant contemplating on where to go, Mr. VERY RUDE, ILL-MANNERED BIG MAN came out in a confrontational and harassing way (YELLING AT US AGAIN). We looked at him and at the same time pitied this restaurant for having this person as we walked away. Then we found GRAZIE RISTORANTE- the exact opposite and a "more than 5-star" review is forthcoming. read more

The interior of this Italian restaurant is stunning, and the service was great! I came here with my friends on a Saturday evening. Two of my friends got the white sauce pizza, and one of my friend got the salmon pasta. I got the gnocchi with Alfredo sauce. I really liked the texture of my pasta but the sauce fell short. The sauce was really creamy but there was no other flavour. Half way through my dish I was unable to finish as it was very heavy. On the contrary, my friends salmon pasta and both pizzas were quite flavourful. This is a nice date night place to come for drinks and ambience. If you are looking for stronger flavours I would recommend going with tomatoe or rose sauce rather than their Alfredo sauce. read more

Recently came here with my friends on a saturday night. There's parking along the street and we were lucky to snag a spot close to the restaurant. The restaurant is bigger than it looks on storefront - there's actually two floors! When we first walked in it was kind of awkards becuase i had to check in with the hostess but there's only standing room behind the door and we felt kind of awkward standing there while they figure out which table we were in. They were very accomodating tho - we ran late for about 15 mins past reservation and they saved the table for us. Our table was actually down the stairs - there was a function that night so it was a bit loud on the main floor, but downstairs it's actually much nicer and quiet. Spacing is a bit tight, but we manage to fit in a baby okay! But i would not recommend bringing in a stroller coz there's no room for that. Servers and staff were all very nice and friendly. lots of options to choose from - i ordered the special that night which was braised wild boar with polenta and veg. I dont' like polenta, so i asked server if i could substitute with pasta and they were able to do that with no extra charge - i asked for the fresh tegliatelle with tomato sauce. My hubby had their bufala pizza, and my other friends ordered the tegliatelle with funghi, tegliatelle with ragu and another order of the wild boar. Food was great! we ordered an app to share but in hindsight was not the best choice - ordered the speck and bufala and the portion was kind of small that it was a bit tough to share amongst 5 ppl. but it was very tasty. Then the mains - they were great on the whole! the pizza was nice and crispy, lots of toppings - the middle was a bit dense tho so the pizza couldn't hold up as well as i would have liked. The wild boar was very delicious and tasty, but i felt the meat was a bit dry, almost tough in certain chunks. They gave me the polenta anyway for presentation purposes (which i gladly took pics of lol) and they served the pasta on the side instead. In general, portions were good. I felt the special the portion was a bit small for it's price point - I woud've been more full with their pasta/pizza options. HOwever, since i did have pasta on the side, I really really liked it. There is a difference in the fresh pasta compared to the dry and my friends really liked the funghi (very tasty mushrooms) and the ragu the meat was soft and moist. For dessert we ordered the dessert platter for four - which included the panna cotta, tiramisu, chocolate fondant cake and cheesecake. All four were great - loved sharing it and getting a bit of each. my handsdown favourite was panna cotta. I normally don't like panna cotta, but theirs is so creamy and rich, not too jelly like and the texture and taste BLEW my mind! Tiramisu was good too but wasn't able to outshine the panna cotta. The chocolate cake was delicious and rich. Cheesecake was average (taste just like typical cheesecake so nothing particularly special). All in all it was a great meal - we stayed for almost 3 hours and they didn't rush us! we were really thankful for that esp since it is a busy night for them. I had a chance to sit down at this Italian Restaurant for a dinner with family recently and found the atmosphere inviting. They have a few rustic elements to the restaurant that give it an old world feel mixed with contemporary and modern decor. My wife and I shared a Caprese Salad which was excellent and fresh, I had the beef carpacial (Carpaccio Di Manza) which wasn't salty enough for my taste but was fresh. A few apps ordered for the table were all very good including the Bruchetta, Calamari and minestrone soup. All like Nonna makes! My wife had the Penne alla Vodka which lacked flavor and was uninspired IMO. Not enough Onions or Bacon and the pasta was underdone by a mile. I had the Medaglioni Sophia, the butter sauce was flavorful but the beef was dry and the pasta again underdone. You can see it in the picture provided. The meal was finished with some cheesecake that was nearly flavorless. I wouldn't recommend. The server was attentive and I thought the quality of service was great. Good meal but not in my top 10.
