The room downstairs looks nice but the one upstairs was very cold. The carpaccio was good but lacked olive oil. The pasta carbonara were nice; al denté. Maybe a little too salty. The rice of the safran risotto was unfortunately not cooked enough. But loaded with small and big shrimps. And the tiramisu was good. Service ok. The food is very good and well priced. They could work on the atmosphere a little especially if they want to attract couples. Unfortunately the neon signs are a big turn off for me, although I understand they are trying to draw attention to their restaurant. Good vibes and good food and very friendly staff. We come here maybe twice every summer and always have a positive experience. We were there last week and I tried the lamb chop and the only complaint I have is that it was small. It was pretty and tasty, but for the price it was just one chop which was mostly bones. So I left the restaurant still feeling hungry. The salads are really good. And the two gentlemen running the place were crazy busy but still very attentive. Overall I think this is one of my favorite places in the neighbourhood. read more

For a $28 entree, it was poorly done. I got the Seared Salmon that came with "baby kale, garlic, red chili and olive oil". I asked for "no oil, or as little as possible". Firstly, they deep-fried the kale and it came sitting in a pool of grease. I couldn't eat it. There were one or two tiny potatoes, green beans and carrots -- also cooked in oil and sitting in a pool of it. The salmon was over-cooked and cold by the time it arrived. It didn't have much flavour, though there were herbs on top. The last bite tasted of rosemary, which was nice. It was seared as described, but overdone and leathery. I have no way to tell if it was organic as advertised. There was no red chili. No biggie, but the description on STD could be updated as it was only about 50% correct. I won't return due to inability to follow instructions, poor treatment of the food, and more grease than if I had bought McDonalds. read more

We had the beef carpaccio and bufala caprese which was really good. The beef carpaccio was super fresh and paired great with the arugula and Parmesan. I wasn't a fan of the bufala caprese since it was still quit watery. I liked the house theme of the restaurant, it feels like you're going to your friends house lol. A friend who is killing it when it comes to adulting. A very very rare friend ;) Valentine's Day was extremely busy and most people around us told us they had been waiting for their main course for 2.5 hours. It wasn't that bad for us but I did notice that despite our reservation we still had to stand and wait for 40-45 mins. We were quick to decide on food and ordered the apps and mains in one go... that might be why we got our mains within 1.5 hrs which is faster than the others lol. The Hispanic guy at front was a delight and he made the wait less dreadful (we were starving all day looking forward to eating dinner here)... My main was delicious though, I had ordered the spinzetta & tagliatelle with beef, it was creamy and hearty and I really really enjoyed it. It made me forgive the wait.... The Wild mushroom black truffle risotto was way too garlicky and the rice was still a bit hard (not chewy, it was crunchy). Not ordering the risotto again.... I wasn't a fan of the squid ink pasta with black cuttle fish, the smell was too fishy and the two lobster tails were very dry and gamey..... Btw the wait for food was long because I think the owner is the chef. I also think there is only one chef who does the actual cooking while the sous chefs do the smaller tasks. read more

Pasta is amazing! Octopus so tasty. I would avoid their pizzas as not thin crust however their salads and pastas were tasty.

My girlfriend and I went to La Sala last weekend, and we were very pleased. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted politely, and seated promptly. Within a couple of minutes, our waiter came in with complementary bruschetta. Nice touch. I looked over the menu, and had a very hard time choosing just one thing, because everything looked so delicious. After I narrowed down my choice to two, I asked the waiter for his recommendation, and he recommended the carbonara. And wow, what a great recommendation. Good serving size, creamy, savoury, everything you could want in a carbonara. One of the things I value is speed of service. So in typical "Igor-fashion", as in my other reviews, I time how long the order takes to arrive. In this case: 12:31. Quite good. And finally, my last criteria for evaluation is cleanliness of washrooms. A lot of restaurants drop the ball on this one. They often have great service, food, and decor, but their washrooms are smelly, dim and just plain disgusting. Not the case with La Sala. Overall, fantastic restaurant that I would visit again. read more

You'd think after months of bad reviews things would change. It seems like there is only one waiter for this two story restaurant. Though bad service can be explained, it shouldn't happen. I was waiting 45 minutes to order when the entree I was going to order arrived. Ok, misunderstanding. Branzino was on the verge of being over cooked and sides were cold. Table next to me was overheard saying "don't hold your breath for the bill, you'll die." I'm still hungry but not sure I can't wait for the appetizer I was going to order. The overwhelmed waiter was arguing with the kitchen which is very uncomfortable for the guests. Now waiter is arguing it is my fault I won't let him make dinner better. I'm full, food was adequate and service atrocious. Leave me alone and good bye!!! read more

The staff was amazing but the cost did not match the quality. For example, the Pescatore Risotto had one scallop and the rice was a bit hard for $28. The location is great, the decor is cute, and again, amazing staff. However, the food is just okay. Not bad, but not worth the price tag. read more

We must have caught them on a day when their a-team was unavailable. Sometimes when that happens, I will skip the review until I can come back a second time. But in this case, the impression they left was too deep for me to want to revisit. Of the two appetizers, two mains and two desserts that I tried, only one item - the shrimp appetizer - was a hit. It had six or so smallish, tail-on shrimp resting in a very nice lemon and paprika sauce. From there, it went downhill. The roasted peppers and bufala had all the described ingredients assembled side by side on a plate, with none of them being particularly noteworthy. The seafood linguini was one of their higher priced mains, but I would have been disappointed at half the price. The seafood was scant and rubbery and felt like it was shaken out of any supermarket frozen seafood mix. The pasta sauce had an unpleasant ammonia note in it. The tuna steak was an extremely generous portion with a large helping of veggies. Although the puttanesca was excellent, the tuna itself was flavourless. Tiramisu was completely unrecognizable. Served in a bowl of mostly whipped cream, I could not detect the slightest hint of coffee. But the thing that really prompted me to write this review were the sounds and smells of the restaurant. At no other restaurant have I ever felt so much a part of the dishwashing process. The clanging, the banging, the buzzing and whirring sounds loud enough to compete with our conversation and close enough to let us smell the dish soap was an expected bonus that really took us feeling closer to the art of dish cleaning. Chef, on your nights off, you need to either close the shop or leave the place in better hands. read more

The atmosphere is intimate and the staff are warm and attentive. I was trying it for the first time and was pleased with my experience. They brought a well prepared and generous slice of bruschetta for each person at the table, on the house. I shared the shrimp appetizer and we both loved the rich garlic laden juice shrimps are served in. Next was the gnocchi, which was perfect for sharing with my friend who shared her lobster ravioli. We both likes the gnocchi but thought the cheese was too stiff and would have blended better with the gnocchi if softer. The ravioli was well prepared but far too salty for me. I searched on Yelp for a highly-rated Italian restaurant around the beaches area. I expected more from a restaurant with this price point and high rating in Toronto. My expectations were not met. My table only ordered pasta dishes. Maybe their other dishes warrant the 5 star rating. I'm curious to see if any of the happy reviewers here have been to Campagnolo, Ufficio or Stelvio. My boyfriend and I went for the second time to La Sala after having a great experience there on NYE (arguably one of the busiest times of the year). Yesterday, however, we were SO disappointed. There were only two servers working on a Friday night, making the service painfully slow, and inefficient. We didn't get our drinks until we were almost done eating our main course. We waiting 10 minutes for a dessert menu then no one followed up 15 minutes later to take our order. Instead of staying for dessert and coffee, we went elsewhere to get that due to the ridiculous wait. Getting our bill wasn't any faster. And worst of all, the food was such a dissapointment compared to our last time there. We had the butternut squash ravioli, which I remember being delicious and stuffed well with butternut squash. This one just tasted like pasta dough and was almost empty inside. The gnocchi was okay, but just swimming in oil. Definitely disappointed all around. I hope a bunch of staff called in sick and that this isn't their normal staffing on a Friday night. Ruined a date night we were very excited about. read more

This restaurant is amazing! We first came here based on a recommendation and we were not disappointed. We had the beef carpaccio, lobster risotto, and steak. Everything we ate was delicious (especially the lobster risotto!) and the service was great. The second time we came here, my fiance proposed. The staff at the restaurant went above and beyond to help him set up for the proposal. The staff all played along with the scheme that the top floor was reserved for other tables (in fact, he had reserved the whole floor for us). Our waiter, Steve, was incredible and captured photos of the entire proposal. He was very attentive. We will be back again! read more

The food was good. The service was great. When we arrived the restaurant was pretty empty so was able to look around at all the tables. The tables were set nicely but upon sitting and looking around noticed they still had some Xmas decorations up in the upstairs area. The bases of the tables need some cleaning. The stairs also look very tired going upstairs, treds being applied to the stairs would cover the wear and tear. These comments do not hold be back from enjoying the restaurant again. read more

Amazing! The whole grilled Seabass was the best I have had. We are from California so are no strangers to great food from the sea. The rest was delish as well with very reasonable prices. Highly recommend to all and will be back here on the next trip. read more

This is the kind of place that everyone's parents would like, and be comfortable with. Friendly attentive service; this guy was clearly a career server and he said all the right things and moved fast. Pleasant guy. Polite and attentive. Nice art on the walls and the walls painted bright colours. The kind of decor that would have been cutting edge in 1990, and if it ain't broke don't fix the cheerful. Same with the menu; huge menu, the usual suspects. Your parents will understand the menu. They are not trying to change the world or reinvent the wheel and there is no imaginative presence in the food. The food was mediocre. With this location, all that La Sala needs to do is hold the line; they are situated perfectly to have just enough regular business from the neighbourhood to get them comfortably through the winter and I'm sure they kill it in the summer with the tourists. read more

After several weeks of research and based on the glittering recommendations of friends and review sites such as Yelp, Bookenda and OpenTable my husband I decided on this beautiful restaurant. First things first, lets be clear- the restaurant is wonderful and the ambiance even better, which was obvious by the fact that it was full this past Sunday afternoon. Although the service was slow the gorgeous menu and the fact there was only one waitress on a clearly busy day- we overlooked it excited to taste the food. I ordered the linguini Contadina-which features wild mushrooms garlic and spinach. Before the food even hit the table, I was surprised to see that it was not the linguine that was advertised, rather capellini which I did mention to the very apologetic and flustered waitress. Now had it just been the wrong pasta, there would not really be a cause to complain., what was trully baffling to me is that your chef found it expectable to serve garlic that was so burnt that it resembled and tasted like a nuclear disaster and that's not even mentioning the three pathetic strands of charred spinach and no visible" wild mushrooms. Realizing I was upset the waitress offered to make me another dish, to which I reluctantly agreed (my husband was already halfway through his meal at this point). Despite this, all could have been forgiven and put down to just a series of unfortunate mishaps had it not been what ensued as the waitress led the charcoal laden capellini back to the visible kitchen pass. My husband and I along with several other startled diners had to then watch the chef aggressively throw the plate of food and yell as if it was our fault we were served inedible food. By the time my substitution had arrived my husband had finished his food and we both quite literally had a very bad taste in our mouths and simply wanted to go home. As our bill arrived( after 20 minutes), we were shocked to not only see that we had not only not been compensated for so much as a glass of wine but to add insult to injury we were told that the manager was not on the premises and that if we had any grievances we would have to address it to the chef, yes the same chef that had so distastefully hurled my pasta. No matter how busy a restaurant is there is absolutely no excuse for such a lack of disrespect whether one is at a diner or a Michelin starred restaurant. My husband and I paid close to $200 for a meal to mark our 25th anniversary and it turned out to be unforgettable due to all the wrong reasons. read more

Fabulous! Quaint and cozy converted house with an open concept dining and kitchen space. Staff are friendly, food is fantastic, well priced and everything is very fresh. The menu selection of dishes and wines is great. From any seat you can see through the bay window to the street and the decor is simple, tasteful and charming. Have been twice and do suggest you check it out. Nice patio and interior, close to the beach. First time was good (one star added), second time was not a great food experience and is the focus of this review. Had the muscles in a wine and tomato-based sauce... the sauce was heavy on the tomato puree and tasted rather fishy but the muscles were done well. Also ordered the bolognese, it was heavy on the tomato sauce (the same tomato sauce as the muscles came in) which wasn't the style of bolognese I was expecting. The server kindly took it back (thank you!) and replaced it with the butternut squash agnolotti. It was heavy on the cream sauce which is not my preference but I won't ding them for that. read more

I go to this restaurant a few times a month. Very friendly staff. Very clean place amazing menu. It's a one man kitchen from what I've seen and the man cooks with his soul. The service was lovely and attentive but the food didn't measure up. Freezing tomatoes served as Bruschetta on a piece of untoasted whitebread, with no other colour... no basil garlic etc... The carpaciao was also served freezing cold - it needs to be at room temperature to absorb all the flavours... pretty basic for any restauraunt. No idea why it has so many lovely reviews. :( read more

Ate here again last week and it was even better than previous times. The service was excellent the atmosphere is very relaxed and comfortable. Only one thing I would change and that is the lighting it seems a little bright. The shrimp appetizer is delicious, I could eat the sauce with a spoon its so good but the best is dipping your bread. I live in the area and it is so nice to finally have a restaurant like this in the neighbourhood. read more

I celebrated my birthday dinner here and sat on there patio. Nice patio and very relaxing environment. The server was great and we were served complimentary bruschetta which was great. I ordered the Arugula Caprino salad which was one of the biggest and best salads. It came with a huge piece of broiled marinated goat cheese on a side plate along with the big salad and all very fresh. The pasta dishes are great very filling and excellent homemade sauce. The food comes out piping hot which is great and very efficient. This was my first time here and looking forward too going back and trying more on there menu. Also the prices are all very reasonable and quality and quantity is great. Good family restaurant or date night. Excellent server and very genuine. I love Italian food and this is now one of my new favourites read more

Heard about La Sala from locals who had seen the restaurant in passing. We decided to try it out while at the Jazz Festival. Service was impeccable and attentive, food was outstanding and well presented but most of all cooked to perfection and delicious, as were the desserts. Decor was calming and elegant. Prices were very fair and we received a warm welcome from the owner. We'll definitely be retuning customers and I highly recommend this restaurant. In bocca al lupo! read more

They try, but they are just not set-up for it. They have all the issues of inexperienced restaurant management. Front of the house relays on 1 guy with some charm and a few young waitresses not trained on the menu. The one guy that actually understands the menu, he is busy running up and down the stairs like a mad man. Creates a very messy and unpleasant atmosphere. The cooks, don't hesitate walking out of the kitchen and yelling at the personnel. I loved how I ordered 2 things and I learned that they didn't have it by the cook screaming at the young (and frankly disappointing) waitress whom didn't know her own menu. Food wise, it seems highly inconsistent. We ordered the ragu' and the seafood pasta and at best the dishes were a 4 to 5. They have structural potential (the venue could be cute) but the service and kitchen is just subpar and very average. The beaches has a very average restaurant offering, which gives them a chance to stay in business. My advice to ownership to stay in business is to reduce seats #, smaller menu with only high quality ingredients (throw away all the frozen crap), less but more experienced servers, and increase the quality of service one step at a time. read more

For $40 for a single take-out entree, I was treated to over done meat, missing bread - which I paid extra for - and when we returned, the manager was very nice, until we mentioned that the meat was over-cooked. We Even suggested that perhaps it was because on the return home, it continued to cook in the sauce. (We were going to suggest perhaps cooking it less on take out orders) But before we had a chance the cook - I won't say chef. Came out of the kitchen yelling and screaming and I DO mean screaming that he didn't over-cook the meat! He even went back into the kitchen and returned with a piece of raw meat waving it in my husbands face!! I worked in the service industry for decades at such places as Barbarians, Not Fred, Kit Kat etc. and I can say Never in all my years have I seen this kind of behaviour to a customer. Needless to say we will never go back and personally I think the "cook" should be fired! read more

We absolutely love La Sala, and have been coming here for years. Last week my husband and I hosted our wedding dinner here for 30 guests, and everyone was raving about the food (note, at least half of our guests have worked in the restaurant industry, at least 3 were once chefs in upscale Toronto restaurants). We offered a reduced menu of the black cod, lobster risotto, cornish hen, and butternut squash ravioli. I personally sampled all of it, and everything was delicious. If I wasn't the bride I would have probably drank the juice the cod was dressed it - delicious. My usual go-to at this restaurant is the seafood linguini, and we'll be returning soon so I can get my fix. We were beyond impressed with the professionalism in organizing our event with Hameen, and the staff on shift that evening. We had our event on the second floor, which was beautiful and intimate. Gus was our primary server, and he was flawless. Thank you for making our day so special! read more

We have been to this restaurant over 5 times. I really like it because it's classy and the food is delicious! It's suitable for children that are well behaved ;) its small and cozy . My kids LOVE the pasta dishes. The chef is Italian so the dishes are authentic. Last night I had the very delicious shrimp appetizer made with garlic, smoked paprika , lemon . We were four people and a Newborn. Thanks to the host we got a table for dinner even though we didn't reserve. The service was fast and the staff friendly and on task including the kitchen crew. The dishes were all delicious and authentic. My Gnocchi were outstanding. read more
