I had read the reviews here before heading there this past weekend for a family get together. And I'm glad I did. This place is on par with La Flor in Elgin. We ordered a lot of food, all of which was damn good, even the Horchatas. I had the steak tacos, as usual. And it looked pretty clean just by looking around the place. I wish there was another location in Sycamore. That would be damn nice for me. That's why I give it 4 stars. And FYI, if you use a GPS, make sure it doesnt lead you to Burritoville, like it did for my son's adoptive parents. Ya know what's funny? First off, I love Mexican food! I've had my fair share of it over the years. This is by far the best place I've eaten. I came here with one of my friends for dinner this Sunday evening. We were in town for an event. There weren't many people present and I was a bit nervous. Could all these reviews I read be wrong?! No. No, they were not! Our waitress was very polite and quickly took our drink order and brought them back just as swiftly along with some chips and salsa and some made to order guacamole that my friend ordered. There were 3 salsa varieties for us to enjoy. There were two in bottles and the third was a fresh salsa in a small bowl. That is the one that I chose to partake in. That was the freshest and most delicious salsa I've had the pleasure to eat! My friend absolutely loved the guacamole. We had some time to look over the menu and I quickly decided to get my favorite, tacos with rice and beans. I was crossing my fingers that I would not be disappointed. My friend decided on the cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. Both of our selections were a cool $5.99 (can't beat that). The wonderful waitress came back and we placed the order. Our food was brought over to us in a short amount of time. Things just keep getting better! The food looked so delicious! Needless to say, we dug in to our food right away. The beans have a very nice consistency and the rice was great. It was cooked properly and had a nice flavor as a traditional Mexican rice. Yum! My favorite part of the meal was tacos of course! These were above and beyond the best tacos I've ever had! The meat was flavored very well. The tortillas were outstanding! They are homemade and I venture to guess that they were made today or yesterday. They were so soft and yummy! My friend was very happy with her meal as well! All around, this is a great place to eat. Let me preface this review by saying that I absolutely love eating authentic Mexican food--I make my own salsa as a hobby, I can it, I'm pretty much in a relationship with Mexican food. I've been in Dekalb just over a year, and there's only one Mexican restaurant in town that I haven't tried yet. This was my second visit to Tacos Salsas Y Carnitas, my first carry-out experience, and my last time visiting altogether. The only reason I came here is because Burritoville across the street was closed for renovations, and this was the closest place I could think of. I was really hungry and didn't want to wait. I came in at about 7:30PM on a Tuesday Night, and at the time I came in, there was a group of 3 people ahead of me in line--great, I wouldn't have to wait long! Boy, was I wrong. I placed my order easily enough, though the waitress didn't seem to write down everything I wanted in my burrito. I noticed this and repeated the order a few times and she insisted she had it down correctly. So I paid--getting scalped an extra dollar to have a couple spoonfuls of rice in my burrito, plus another $1.75 for guacamole--and stood off to the side to wait for my order. Again, remember that there were only three people ahead of me in line when I came in. I waited, I waited, and I waited some more. I waited until my feet started to hurt from standing in one place for so long. I'm pretty patient, so it wasn't for some time that I looked at the clock and realized that 20 minutes had gone by since I placed my order--a little bit disappointing, but again, I was hungry, so I kept my mouth shut and kept waiting. Finally, a total of 30 minutes after I placed my order (one burrito!), my food comes out, I get my salsa, and I go. I get back home and get ready to dig in. Now, for the burrito, it's definitely on the smaller side of what is typically served in Dekalb. The salsa is some kind of weird blended consistency, completely liquid, and opaque, neither the color of tomatoes or most chili peppers. After tasting it, the heat was good, the flavor was extremely lacking. At this point, I just want to get the burrito inside of me and call it a day. So I start eating, and of course I don't get everything I asked for in my burrito, they forgot to put in the onion and the cilantro. Overall, the flavor of the burrito is extremely bland. So, completely disappointed, nine dollars closer to being broke, and an hour of my time gone, I finish eating, throw everything in the trash, and tell myself I'll never go back there for Mexican Food again. Taco Bell is like a 3 minute drive away, and I honestly believe I would have been better off going there, instead of this place. read more

This is by far the best taco restaurant around! I will drive as far as I have to to get food from this place!!! Everything tastes amazing. The Chorizo here is delicious! Best green salsa I have ever had. I love Mexican food and have not found anything to compare to this yet. We recently moved to Dallas where there is a ton a great Mexican food but nothing as authentic and delicious as this. The staff are pretty attentive and agreed it's not the cleanest, but I would rather eat there than burritoville (which is super disgusting and the food is terrible). We love it here. We like it so much, we can't wait to back to school and go again (we go to niu). It's "our spot" when we go out to eat. My boyfriend and I always get the taco dinner, complete with three tacos (meat of your choice - I always get chicken, he gets steak), rice, and beans. My weakness, however, is the limonada (the yellow drink in the beverage machine). The prices are also ideal, as it's only approximately $15 for us to eat here. We never leave here hungry. read more

Management that thinks this is acceptable in a restaurant probably has a lax definition of cleanliness, which may also apply to the kitchen where your "4 star" food is prepared. Went here based on the yelp reviews... Sadly I must say that I feel misled. The place is clean and the staff polite, but the menu is pretty limited and the chow rather bland, and the tacos are kinda dry. My wife had a Carne asada burrito; I had a asada torta, and we shared a sampling of tacos - al pastor, chicken, carnitas, cecina, and ground beef. So everything was just kind of "ok", nothing was great, but not bad - we didn't upset tummies, but weren't impressed with anything we ate either. I've been going here for years. I go for my torta al pastor (a seasoned pork Mexican sadwhich). The food is delicious and very cheap.

First, it has no sign right now and was hard to find my first time there. Second, it is in a run down shady strip mall. Two strikes like that and is still open, good sign for the food. Steak tacos are great, and a huge portion of meat. Salsas are also excellent. I'm a green salsa guy, but their red is a taste changer. Get all three when you order: green, red, and they have a pico de gallo also. Three tacos,, three salsas, three unique tastes. I have to ding them for inconsistent sides, first time: great rice, gross watery beans. Second time, dry rice, average beans. Try it out, the tacos are kick ass. read more

I only had the lengua and cabeza de puerco tacos here during a quick stop for lunch. The cabeza was good but the lengua was outstanding. The meat was tender and seasoned to perfection. My husband, son and I had breakfast here recently. Chips and a very fresh and tasty salsa were brought to our table soon after we sat down. My son and I had the huevos rancheros. We both loved it. The sauce was so flavorful. My husband was very pleased with his huevos con chorizo. The corn tortillas, rice and beans that were served with our breakfast were very good. Totally disgusting! I used to buy from them regularly a little over a year ago. However, I stopped due to the financial struggles of being in my final year at NIU and my savings running low. I just ordered a tamale and a chicken quesadilla. The Tamale had two bones that were a little over 2 inches long in it (no meat attached and very limited meat in the tamale. Basically it was all corn meal, a few specs of meat and 2 bones. The chicken quesadilla has been switched from chunks of white meat to shredded dark meat. Their food is disgusting now. I called to complain and the only english speaking person (the dishwasher) tried to belittle me and said, "no one else ever complained, you are the only one". I explained my situation and how I almost broke a tooth on the bones, and he laughed and said "Thats just how we make them". I wish I could give this resturant negative stars. They used to be the best mexican resturant in Dekalb. Now they are among the worst in America. Stay clear unless you have false teeth and lost your sense of taste. read more

We did carry-out and really enjoyed the food! We ordered a taco dinner and burrito dinner. Chicken was very flavorful as were the beans. The only reason I'm giving four instead of 5 starts is because the drinks( which are included in most dinners) are from a can. Went there this past weekend and I really wanted to like this place since there are really no good Mexican Restaurants in De Kalb. Sorry to say it was not a good experience. We had Nacho's and the ground beef was hard and overcooked. Hubby had Chicken Fajita's and the chicken was dry and hard with little flavor. I had beef tacos and had same experience with the meat. Son had chicken tacos and the meat was soft juicy and great(i think it was cooked fresh for the taco's) Overall experience, Waitress was friendly, food took too long,( and they were not busy) guacamole was freshly made and had no taste at all nothing had much flavor unless you overdosed it with hot sauce and i wanted to taste my tacos without a mouthful of hot sauce. I will NOT be going back here or recommending to anyone I like. read more
