Best Mexican food I've had outside of Texas! The salsa is unique..I don't know what makes it so, but it is so flavorful and has just the right amount of heat. Everything we got was outstanding. And very reasonably priced. We've been coming to dekalb once a week for skateboarding lessons. I'm so glad this place was recommended to us as we'll be back every week! read more

Flamingo ice cream also offers delicious food & drinks. Upon ordering the service was so friendly and helpful. It was a fun atmosphere with karaoke, on certain days of the week. Colorful with an ice cream & cocktail bar. The Flamingo has a lot of choices. I tried some cantaloupe juice that was so good & refreshing. The piña colada was one of the best I've had. We had soup, tacos of different varieties, quesadillas, etc. and it was all very good. Try this place out if you're looking for your taco & drink fix in the area. read more

Flamingos is a great place to eat if you're white and enjoy paying the dum dum gringo rate @ $28.00 for 6 little soft shell tacos with steak and onions. I sent my aunt to go and pick up something for lunch and she came home with what I would of assumed were little street tacos for $3.00 a piece....I damn near fell over. Never again... 6 Little flour shells, 12 little pieces of skirt steak, diced onions and cilantro. $28.00 read more

The best Mexican food in the area for my money. I especially love their barbacoa tacos. But everything I've gotten there is hot and delicious. They also have desserts like tres leches cake! (Pictured) read more

Everything I have eaten here is great. Some of the best horchata and tortas around!!! Quick and friendly service every time.

Surprisingly my daughter suggested this place when she was playing around on her phone and it came up as a nearby food spot. The food was pretty good for a little dive like place with a bank weirdly located inside. Not too bad. read more

Pretty good mexican food and a big selection of ice cream. The guacamole was very good and the elites were good, ask for extra mayo. read more

I had the pick 3: pastor taco-Mexican style, chicken tamale, and a cheese and onion enchilada with red sauce. The pastor was different than other local establishments as they used a mole seasoning which gave it a hint of cinnamon and a whole different layer of flavor that wasn't overly spicy, just different than what I'm used to. I base my judgement of most Mexican food places with the quality of their tamales. Most Mexican families I know hand down tamale recipes through generations and the good traditions shine through in this small stuffed rolled corny piece of meaty joy! In my opinion a good tamale has a great mix of sweet with the corn mixture, savory and spice with quality and flavor of the meat and then is carefully rolled together and steamed... And served in the corn huske. No tamale should ever NEED to be slopped on with chilli... And at Flamingos... The tamale I had was fabulous. It was tender, still hot because the huske kept it so, and the chicken was juicy and flavorful enough to make my mouth crave more! Based solely on that portion of my plate, I'm excited to see what this establishment comes up with in the future! Bravo! Please, I beg you, get on eatstreet soon so we can order for delivery when my 3 year old is too tired to go out for dinner! The only ding for me was that when it came to the end of the meal and we were looking for dessert, no one could be found to help us. Also, it isn't really clear... Do we bus our own dishes or do you take care of that? All in all we'll definitely be back, the food was delightful! read more

Flamingo Ice Cream - Pick 3: pastor taco-Mexican style, chicken tamale, and cheese and onion enchilada - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Dekalb, Illinois

Zero stars if I cold. Food is ok but the service, if you can call it that, is subpar at best. Never believe anything you are told by the staff over the phone. This was the 3rd time i was given a rough time for a pick up order. This time it was 10 min, was there in 5 min. They had already locked the front door an would not answer or acknowledge that they had someone at the door; were more interested in pretending there was no one there. If you want to be treated like caca go here, you will happy. If you want to be treated like a customer that is at least respected go anywhere else. read more

Was not impressed...I ordered Al pastor tacos and it wasn't at all like they are supposed to be made, there was no red marinaded sauce it was just plain pork meat. And the milanesa was very bland. It was like $16+ for a sandwich & 2 tacos. I don't mind the price but as long as it's flavorful . Honestly it was a disappointment. read more

I go there for the excellent avocado tostadas. I like the casual atmosphere, family vibe, and good food. They have a nice variety of sauces to try too. The kids always look forward to ice cream after we have a yummy dinner of Mexican food. read more

Such a unique experience! When we walked in, I couldn't figure out if the food was going to be more "fast food" variety Mexican. It was surprisingly SO so good. Many places do not have the Mexican street corn and on the the cob nonetheless! How many places can your child get a scoop or ice cream or milkshake with their Mexican food? My kids loved their milkshake along with their nachos and omelette. The nachos were huge and had a ton of meat on them. My husband and I both had a burrito. We were very pleased by the quality. The staff could not have been any more pleasant. They were attentive and food came out fairly quick. We don't live close to this gem, but wish we did!! Whenever we are in the area, we will definitely stop by again! read more

I'm ashamed and a little frightened... This is an old local grocery store that has been thru some changes. They have made this into a nice Mexican restaurant / ice cream joint. Ive seen the sign for quite awhile ( I drive past it everyday) but never stopped in until the other night, on my gf's suggestion. That's the part that I'm ashamed of. It's clean, comfortable, and the best part is that the food is great. It may well be the best Mexican in the Dekalb/Sycamore area. I had a taco (pastor) and a tamle (pork), and they rocked. GF had a baby burrito, and I might have had a bite or two of that as well. Well, she still had enough for lunch the next day. This is not a fancy white table cloth place, but it is worth the trip. The part that frightens me is this place is an easy walk from my house. Mmmm tacos and ice cream. read more

Flamingo is THE TRUTH. My girlfriend and I went in with pretty low expectations - I mean, we're in Dekalb, there's a bank inside, and they seem to be advertising their ice cream more than their Mexican food. However, after eating lunch there yesterday, I can confirm that Flamingo competes with just about any Mexican restaurant I've been to in the city. We started with the complimentary chips and salsa. (well, probably more sauce than salsa) The chips were great, and the sauces were also very good. I had a steak torta, which was fantastic. The steak was flavorful, and the lettuce and tomato was fresh. The sandwich was plenty for me, and I've been known to pack away large helpings of food in one sitting. My girlfriend got three tacos, and I tried them all. The first thing I noticed was how delicious the tortillas were. I'm guessing they're made in house, but even if they're made offsite, they're some of the best I've had. The chicken was very good, the steak was obviously enjoyable, but the pastor was the clear winner. I now understand why so many reviews mention it. So yeah, take it from this city-dwelling Mexican food snob - Flamingo is well worth the trip. read more

While out of town for work, this small neighborhood eatery gave a great sense of good food to a small little community. Delicious tacos. De-lish-us ice cream. I ordered the coconut flavor. ALSO, a very Mexican throw-back, elote (corn on the cob or in the cup, seasoned with parm. cheese, hot chili powder, butter, and mayo). Yes, go here if you are passing through. I'm sure to visit again before I leave home, just for the ice cream, if nothing else! Yum. read more

Interesting counter service restaurant that's a mix of ice cream and Mexican food. Free chips and sauces - four different ones to add to your chips or meal. Make sure to ask if you don't get them and only get the small cup of salsa with your chips. I had the carne asada tacos and enjoyed them, but a little fatty. Kids loved the quesadilla kids meal and the waffle cones of superman ice cream :). I'd stop again if in dekalb. read more

I got a burrito, 3 tamales and 2 tacos for $19. The bag weighed at least 5lbs. I've accepted the fact I'm a fatass but Mexican food is my weakness. Tamales, excellent. Tacos were great and I wish I got more than 2. Burrito... well, i can't even eat it because I'm so full. This place is awesome. I'm pissed I haven't been going there all the time as today was my first time. It's very clean and surprisingly busy for Tuesday at 2:00pm. Plus I think it's hilarious a bank is in there. There must be some fat ass bankers working there because that food is great. Screw Los Tres Burritos. 2.49 for a tamale is ridiculous and they're not that good. Flamingos is the best Mexican in dekalb. Things I didn't like: I waited 20 minutes but luckily I have games on my phone to keep me busy. Second, I wish the sauce was hotter because I live for spicy food. Their hot sauce was mild but really good. I used 6 cups of it on my 2 tacos. read more

Ambiance sucks but if you stay you get chips and salsa. Ask for the other salsas too if you're staying. They're very good. They'll give you three squeeze bottles of 'em. As I was saying about ambiance: The place needs to switch up the lighting...It's all fluorescent lit with no windows. There's also a bunch of pink flamingos all around and it's all quite tacky, but very clean. You can actually get real 100% juices made here. A little expensive, but the only place you can go in town to buy a real juice...that I KNOW of! Pastor tacos with onions and cilantro -very good. Steak tacos/baby burrito -very good Horchata -my favorite in town. I've been to all the local fast Mexican joints in town and this one is probably my favorite right now. Kicks the crap outa Loco...even though a couple people told me it's the same owners???? Anyway, check it out! read more

I normally eat here but today will be my last time. Last time I got a burrito and I ordered avocado but they waited until after I ordered to ask me if I wanted potatoes as a substitute because they were out.....and then I asked specifically on the phone this time for no meat and a vegetarian burrito. I get it and there's shredded beef in it. Very disappointed. read more

Everyone needs to experience Flamingo for more than just the ice cream. The environment here is clean and the staff is very attentive. The food was served pretty quickly after ordering and it was some of the best Mexican food I've had in a while. I finished my meal by ordering something called a Churro Sundae. I didn't know what it was but I knew I needed to find out and. Exactly as advertised it was a piping hot churro drizzled in what I remember as being chocolate sauce, but It could have been caramel. The plating was even amazing for how simple of a desert this vanilla ice cream topped treat was. Live your best life and eat Flamingo! read more

By far the best Mexican restaurant in DeKalb County. Cheap prices, large portions, delicious food full of flavor. The ice cream is rich and flavorful too. Also, there's lot of fun, kitschy flamingo decor. I have no complaints, it is a great place. 10/10! read more

Two words. Breaded steak. Interesting building, imagine a baskin robbins, Taco Bell, and bank all smashed together. They somehow make it work without feeling out of place. Limited seating and parking, but don't let that deter you. Beef taco was excellent, and I will go back again and again for breaded steak tacos. Chips and salsa were lackluster, but I will return. read more

Just dined here for the first time and I was impressed. Best to compare it to Los Burritos which I just reviewed last week. Compares very well. With the added bonus of a full-fledged ice cream parlor attached. Tres Bien. Or muy bien. Your choice. Had a steak burrito. Very good. Not sure if the sauces that come with to put on said burrito are as good as Los Burritos', but close. Then, had a two scoop ice sundae with chocolate syrup. And whole roasted almonds. Yep. Anyways, all quite good. Nice, fast staff. Reasonable prices. Questionable neighborhood, but it was okay. Come for the mexican fare, stay for a scoop or two. No beer at either one. Beer would go well with the food and the ice cream. read more

DEEEEElicious. Love this place. My office almost goes every week. Great food!

Excellent food. Friendly service. Clean facilities. A good few ideas for vegetarians, especially the squash flower quesadillas

Came in and ordered a carry out order. Be advised if you come around lunch time be prepared to wait a bit. They have a very nice selection of tacos. As always I ordered them Mexican style. Tacos were a nice size, all were stuffed with a good amount of meat. Both the chorizo and lengua didn't have much flavor, but the steak was excellent. They threw in a nice amount of salsa as well. I ordered a side of elotes, which was good, just seemed like it wasn't hit enough. Plenty of seating inside, and the service was excellent with a smile, I'll be back! read more

I come in about once a week with my family. We always have an enjoyable meal. Friendly ladies at the counter. Excellent beans and rice, and I always enjoy my tacos. Occasionally they get my younger son's tostada wrong. I think they are a little weirded out that he doesn't want meat on it. Other than that we never have any problems. My boys also love that they get ice cream after their meal. read more

There are a lot of Mexican options in this area and my wife and I have tried them all. Believe it or not this is the best place to go for more street food oriented Mexican like tacos, tamales, and burritos. The chicken is well seasoned (hard to find in this area) and there is a good variety of options. The pastor taco, green chili tamale, and chicken taco salad are some of my favorites. Highly recommended! read more

This seems like a small shabby restaraunt on the outside (not sure if this is because of the location) but the inside is really fresh and inviting. A major plus this place has over similiar places in Dekalb is the menu. It explains what everything is next to the name on the menu for the confused people like me who don't regularly eat authentic Mexican cuisine. Another plus is this place is two in one (actually three in one if you include the bank). They serve food and dessert with a lot of different choices of ice cream. I ordered the steak tacos on corn tortilla and they were outstanding. I also ordered some dessert which was Mangonada (mango ice cream with chili sauce and power topping it), also outstanding. My expectations were blown away at how clean and inviting the atmosphere was inside and the food was absolutely awesome. By far the best authentic taco in dekalb. I will be back, soon. read more
