When in Dekalb and hungry for Mexican food do not look anywhere else as this place will not disappoint!!! Authentic, tasty and a fair price! What more could you ask for?! read more

I ordered a Beef Taco and Cheese Enchilada (the dinner special). It was ok, with a reasonable price. The serving people there are so nice, but the food is in small quantity without Nachos as a side like the other restaurants do. read more

I've had much of the Mexican cuisine in Dekalb, IL and this is the best so far. Affordable food that doesn't compromise in the taste department. Do yourself a favor-- try the carne asada tacos with cilantro and onion, add corn in a cup to the order and grab yourself a refreshing agua fresca to wash it down. It's worth it. read more

The food was really fresh and authentic. Our server didn't really do much lol, but, was pleasant. The restaurant itself was clean. Will be back. read more

I was looking for somewhere cheap and quick while in town for my daughter's competition that was at the university just down the road. I knew the food was going to be good as soon as I walked in. I got the #1 special which was a beef taco and a cheese enchilada with rice and beans. They brought over a free bowl of hot tortilla chips and homemade salsa which was perfect. The service was nice and simple and quick. The prices in my opinion were very affordable. Whatever the creamy red salsa was I could've drank it was that good. I finished it off with a fruit punch Jarritos. The only downside is they do not have a bathroom but there's a coffee shop two doors down that does so for me it wasn't a problem. If you're from out of town just know that you park all the way to the right of this two-story plaza and it is all the way on the opposite end downstairs just past the barbershop. They do take credit cards which is a plus. I will definitely eat there again if I'm ever in town for a competition and highly recommend it to anyone who needs somewhere quick and easy if you're in the area. read more

Best tacos in DeKalb. The carne asada with the green avocado salsa is superb. The chips and salsa to start are always fresh and delicious.

This place has good food, but it is located in a sketchy area, with sketchy customers to match! So beware! Other than that, the food and service is good. Stick with the carne asada, chorizo, al pastor tacos or burritos and you will enjoy your meals. There is a plant inside the restaurant that is so long it wraps around the entire place! You gotta see it! read more

Best tacos in DeKalb. Soooooo good. Staff is extremely kind and very helpful. Best Mexican cuisine in town.

I was looking for an easy, inexpensive lunch option while driving through DeKalb. This fit the bill. The complimentary chips and pico were good. I enjoyed my carnitas taco. The pork filling in the tamale was good; I was surprised it was wrapped in banana leaf rather than corn husk, and there was a lot of dough surrounding it. The chicken on my tostada was a bit dry but I enjoyed the overall flavor. Service was prompt. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could. read more

Was on Facebook the other day and there was a vote for best tacos in Dekalb Co. I try to yelp local places and realized we've never tried this place. It's on campus, which isn't too far from us- a nice little half hour walk. When we got there, there was a sign stating to place an order by telephone or eat street. I called and no answer, so I tried to do an order on my phone. I almost walked away to the place across the street when my boyfriend just suggested we go in and order. Luckily staff was very nice and told me it would only be a couple mins. The food was definetly worth the wait! Way better than the last place I yelped for tacos and food was authentic! Steak was actually steak and verde sauce was on point. I actually might have liked the rojo sauce a little more!! So glad we tested out this taco joint. Only negative about this location is that the pictures and menu stated tacos to be $1.89 but when we got there, they were $2.09 I think. Not that big of a deal, still worth the money!! read more

I give this place four stars for affordability and awesome deals. The meals typically include two tacos or a burrito with beans, rice, and a drink for about 5-7 dollars. WAAYY cheaper and way more delicious than any of it's other competition around DeKalb such as Burritoville and El Burrito Loco. You also get unlimited free chips and salsa when you dine in! However, I take away one star for having less-than-stellar horchata. I'd save a couple dollars and skip it if I were you. read more

Good burrito. "Con todo" I'm guessing meant lettuce and tomato? I didnt ask or really care. I figured let's get it how they make it. I did order in spanish hut the woman greeted me in English. Just made my choice. The woman was nice. My food was made quickly. When I got back home a 8 minute drive it was still hot. My wife liked her tongue taco. It came with onion and cilantro. read more

Stopped here from Chicago going to NIU and were amazed by the deliciousness! Tried the costillas in both salsa verde and Chile seco. The flavors were authentic and rich. Horchata on point and mango water was a treat! Service a bit slow but everything was made to order so it was worth the wait. read more

Five stars. It's not just authentic Mexican Food; it's amazing authentic Mexican food! The breakfast plate I had was amazing; eggs with green peppers, onions and tomatoes, beans, rice and tortillas. The tortillas were perfect! They were light, not a heavy corn taste and warmed to perfection. Kids has burritos. The tortillas are just perfect! We will be back. read more

This is the best Mexican restaurant in the area! The staff are so friendly and you get free salsa and chips when you dine in. Their meat is always seasoned just right and the corn tortillas are not dry, unlike los 3 burritos. They also do not skimp out on meat!!! I usually order three steak and pork tacos or a steak torta. If you're deciding between here or burritoville across the street, def choose this place, you won't be disappointed! read more

Their empanadas and sopes are amazing! My favorite traditional plate from here is the Costilla Pequin!

I ordered there when I thought it was TSYC, and got a carryout menu called La Salsa. They could call it whatever they want, just don't change the Burritos! Or the Carnitas! So far that's all I've ordered, and it'll be hard to try anything else because why fix it if it aint broken! read more

Awesome Carnitas, friendly people, and good prices. Don't show up if you are looking for Americanized Mexican food or a high class dining experience. If you are looking for food with great flavor that doesn't break the bank then this is it. read more

My new go-to Mexican restaurant now that Al Dorado is closed. The tacos are good here, the enchiladas are just OK. The sauces are a little different than what I'm used to, but green one is pretty good. They give you free chips if you dine in. Be-careful though this area is a little shady at night. read more

Really good food for a great value. My husband and I both ate the cheese enchilada dinner and it was delicious. I also love the decor and the beautiful plants everywhere, it makes the place feel alive and vibrant. Service was friendly and polite. We're definitely coming back, well done! read more

La Salsa - Delicious! - Mexican Near Me - DeKalb, Illinois

Tacos, Salsas, y Carnitas is definitely the best Mexican food I've found in Dekalb so far. I had a steak taco, beef tostada, and rice. My fiance had a steak burrito. The steak was soooo gooood. Usually all steak tacos taste pretty similar in my book, but this place made it to the top of my list. The chips and salsa were also very good. I loved the different salsas and hot sauces they put on your table. All were delicious. It was really unexpected because the place is kind of run down and simple inside. I wouldn't hesitate to go back, every time I pass it I want to run in and get a steak taco. Also very reasonable prices. Update: I had the BBQ pork tacos, decided to try something a little different, and oh. my. God. best dinner of my life. Already craving more. DO NOT GO ANYWHERE ELSE IN DEKALB. read more

This is the best authentic Mexican food in the Dekalb/Sycamore area. Way better than the Burritoville across the street. Beware! The sign is labeled La Salsa and there's a caption underneath it saying Tacos Salsas Y Carnitas. This is the right place! My boyfriend and I went for the first time there a couple of days ago and all the food was so great. The burritos we ordered to go were very presentable. A little less filled compared to Burritoville's, but cut in half and not soggy. The salsas we got were very spicy, but it's not a bad thing. We also ordered the horchata, which was delicious. The other places that sell horchata in the area are waterier, but this one was packed with flavor. One thing I only had to complain about so far was the refried beans were a little too watery when we went. Other than that, this restaurant is the place to go. read more

There seems to be quite a number of Mexican restaurant in the DeKalb/Sycamore area for the size of the community. Overall, they are of just fine quality, with a few that I will not step foot in. This place though is the best I have had in region. Tacos have been great every time I eat here and I have made it a regular go to spot for my Mexican food. Go here if u want Mexican food in DeKalb/Sycamore. Can't do any better then this place in the region. read more

11/19/14 Went in for my first time cause of Yelp and Google reviews. Ordered 3 tacos, 1 burrito, and fries. Tacos were okay (lettuce, tomato, beef, onion), shells were soft, but tasted off (don't eat them cold). The burrito was regular (with re-fried beans), with cheese and salsa. No salsa, burrito was SUPER greasy, no beans or salsa was added to burrito. They didn't give me any fries (even though they took my ticket, CLEARLY with FRIES on it), and because I didn't get a receipt I couldn't confirm I had paid for the fries or not (my fault). The salsa they gave on the side was nothing but hot sauce... No veggies, runny, and bland. I will never go here again. read more

This is the best Mexican restaurant in DeKalb. Bar none. The owners at this establishment do not skimp or compromise on flavor at an outrageously affordable price. We ordered Tacos Al Pastor and Chorizo as well as a plate of Carnitas. All of our offerings were bursting with delicious savoriness when combined with the usual accoutrements. I am honestly so surprised at how humble and authentic this spot is. The location is as unassuming as the interior. If you are craving real Mexican food that absolutely delivers, look no further. read more

This place was excellent. I had a work dinner for 15 nearby and couldn't find much else...called Tacos at 11 and they suggested there meal lunch special of 3 tacos, beans and rice (and pop) for $5.99. I got 5 orders of chicken tacos meal, 5 steak and 5 ground beef. Everyone loved it and we all stuffed our bellies! Really hit the spot for authentic food, great flavors and priced just right. Thanks Tacos!! read more

This is my all time favorite Mexican joint in DeKalb. They offer very authentic Mexican food at super low prices. It's located across from Burritoville and I was once told that Mexican Burritoville employees go to Tacos Salsas Y Carnitas for lunch. Between my friends and me everything on the menu has been tried and there have never been any complaints. The only thing I would say is that the staff is very Mexican and sometime it was strange being one of the few non Spanish speaking patrons. Unless something has changed in the last year they only accept cash, but everything on the menu is affordable. They also aren't opened super late. read more

TSYC is very good food. The location blends in and could be passed but it is a restaurant and their is a Mexican grocery store next store. I have always ordered tacos either Carnitas or steak and both always hit the spot. The chips and salsa at the table are fresh and tasty. The price is juuuust right. Everything on the menu is affordable, even for college students. read more

Love this joint. I probably come here about 4 times a month. I live by El Burrito Loco (now called "3 Burrito's or something) and I gladly go out of my way to make it to Salsas y Carnitas (also called "La Salsa Restaurant"). La Salsa is my favorite Mexican restaurant in DeKalb. The food is made with a lot of love. The 2 taco dinner is my favorite. At lunch time you get 3 tacos for the same price as the previous( $5.99) and that comes with a drink too. They DO take credit cards. I saw earlier a review that said "cash only". The ambiance is best in the daytime when the tacky fluorescent lights aren't on. This place is more of a "fast Mexican/ to go" food place than a comfy restaurant to take a first date to. But they do still operate like a "restaurant" with a waitress who brings you chips and menus and you tip her nicely please! Some of the staff do not speak very good English, so be relaxed and make sure you are getting what you want. read more

Super yummy! Came in not knowing what to expect but, the food was great and came in record time! The chicken on the torta and tacos was a little dry but, add some pico de gallo or salsa verde and you'll be fine. read more

This place is the best taco place I've ever been to. I'm from Chicago and went to school in DeKalb. I ate here multiple times a week for years. I could not get enough. I was a "regular" and the waitstaff knew my order almost always. I'd switch it up on them sometimes. You can not go wrong with their burritos, steak tacos, and enchiladas in green sauce. The enchiladas are my fav! You guys should be open late night. Unfortunately I moved out of DeKalb but I will be back just to eat here! read more

I had read the reviews here before heading there this past weekend for a family get together. And I'm glad I did. This place is on par with La Flor in Elgin. We ordered a lot of food, all of which was damn good, even the Horchatas. I had the steak tacos, as usual. And it looked pretty clean just by looking around the place. I wish there was another location in Sycamore. That would be damn nice for me. That's why I give it 4 stars. And FYI, if you use a GPS, make sure it doesnt lead you to Burritoville, like it did for my son's adoptive parents. Ya know what's funny? The photos of the inside was the EXACT spot I was sitting in at that table. So you get to see what I saw! LOL! read more

First off, I love Mexican food! I've had my fair share of it over the years. This is by far the best place I've eaten. I came here with one of my friends for dinner this Sunday evening. We were in town for an event. There weren't many people present and I was a bit nervous. Could all these reviews I read be wrong?! No. No, they were not! Our waitress was very polite and quickly took our drink order and brought them back just as swiftly along with some chips and salsa and some made to order guacamole that my friend ordered. There were 3 salsa varieties for us to enjoy. There were two in bottles and the third was a fresh salsa in a small bowl. That is the one that I chose to partake in. That was the freshest and most delicious salsa I've had the pleasure to eat! My friend absolutely loved the guacamole. We had some time to look over the menu and I quickly decided to get my favorite, tacos with rice and beans. I was crossing my fingers that I would not be disappointed. My friend decided on the cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. Both of our selections were a cool $5.99 (can't beat that). The wonderful waitress came back and we placed the order. Our food was brought over to us in a short amount of time. Things just keep getting better! The food looked so delicious! Needless to say, we dug in to our food right away. The beans have a very nice consistency and the rice was great. It was cooked properly and had a nice flavor as a traditional Mexican rice. Yum! My favorite part of the meal was tacos of course! These were above and beyond the best tacos I've ever had! The meat was flavored very well. The tortillas were outstanding! They are homemade and I venture to guess that they were made today or yesterday. They were so soft and yummy! My friend was very happy with her meal as well! All around, this is a great place to eat. My friend and I have decided that we will make the 30 mile trek from to come here again soon! It's worth it! read more
