I had elotes (street corn) and short rib quesadillas...short ribs are trendy, I think, now..."birria" (a short rib preparation that originated in Jalisco de Mexico) is very popular in Chicago and it seems like many Mexican restaurants are jumping on that trend. I like that trend! My sister and husband had veggie options (burrito and quesadillas) and their meals were just as great as mine. Service was professional and efficient, and the room is comfortable. Though under staffed, our service was prompt and efficient. The restaurant is small so get there early (by 6) or you will have a wait. The food is really good and large portions! I had the steak fajitas and my wife had a HALF order of the braised short rib nachos. The half order is enough to feed 2 as a meal or 4 people as an appetizer. Being from TEXAS we know Mexican food and with a few exceptions, this place hits the spot. Those exceptions are 1. In Texas the would not serve siphon rice. You get true Spanish rice. 2. In Texas you are not served black beans. You would get refried pinto beans with an option for charro beans. That said we will be back and would highly recommend to our friends. read more

St. Simmons has several Mexican restaurants, and La Plancha does stand out in several ways. Their food quality tastes a level higher in terms of ingredients. The food delivery is quick when they are not understaffed, which feels like it is more often than most places. They recently replaced their steak options with short rib, which is a downgrade in my view. With that said, they have a strong line up of tacos. I had heard good things about this place. I stopped by for dinner and really appreciated the host seating me as a single at a 4 top As that is all that was available. Really appreciated that instead of being told to wait or go to the bar. Service was excellent! I was a little disappointed that you have to pay for chips and salsa but I get it. I ordered the sunshine margarita which was very tasty. I also ordered the short rib quesadilla. It was chock full of meat and delicious. The side of beans and rice mixed were fine but I wish the bowl had been a bit larger as everything tended to spill out. The place is small but nice. La Plancha is one of my faves on SSI. It's in a tiny mid island plaza with Brogens North as the other anchor. A busy and intimate experience awaits. Everything is delicious. I recommend everything with my favorite being the black refried beans and the skinny margarita. Everything is fresh and delicious. They offer lunch and dinner specials from time to time. Was looking for a good Mexican restaurant for dinner a Thursday (October 12th.) La Plancha, was recommended. We arrived at 6:22 PM and were warmly greeted by our waiter Terran. We told Terran that this was our first time in the restaurant and for his recommendations. Per Terrans recommendations we started out with 2 La Plancha Rita's margaritas. Both margaritas were excellent. We also ordered a small Guacamole & chips. The small was large enough to share. For dinner we ordered 1chicken & 1 short rib fajitas. Service is fantastic, everyone is very nice. The drinks are also great! The food was decent, but way more Tex-mex than I had thought. The salsa was weird and expensive, chicken chimichanga had huge chunks of grilled chicken in it which I didn't love. The special, the tostones, were the best thing we got, would definitely get those again. They should be a main menu item for sure. I would eat here again for sure, but maybe avoid certain things next time. read more

This spot is easily one of the best Mexican restaurants on the island! For years, we always stuck to our go-to, Bubba Garcias, and while we still love it, La Plancha offers something different! This time, I ordered the veggie quesadillas and my mom ordered the nachos and we halved ours so we got to try everything. All the food was absolutely delicious (as were the margaritas) and the service was exceptional! I do have a few faults with the restaurant. While the place itself is very cute, it's also extremely small. They do have some outdoor seating, but when it gets cold or windy it's not always the most comfortable. I also wish they had a lunch menu with some more affordable prices. While $15-$20 dishes would not be terrible for dinner, I think it's a little pricey for lunch. Our family of 4 had lunch here (at the recommendation of many locals) on a Thursday afternoon. There was no wait for inside dining, which was a pleasant surprise for summertime on SSI! The restaurant had a different but cool/quaint vibe, the staff was friendly and courteous, and we received our chips/salsa quickly. However it took a while before the server took our order and 25-30 minutes more for our orders to arrive. The food was "ok," certainly not was I was expecting after the rave reviews from our friends. We had what I would consider fairly "typical" meals off the menu: ground beef tacos, chicken quesadillas, chicken fajitas...and they all were just average in flavor. Maybe we were there on an "off" day for the kitchen, so we're open to trying it again...we didn't get to partake of the 'Rita's which we've heard were the best on the island! read more

Came here during vacation and I was surprised at how good it was! La Plancha is located in a small strip mall at the corner and it has outdoor seating at picnic tables which you can see from the parking lot. We didn't think to take any pictures before we dove into our food. We liked it enough to go twice during our week of vacation though! The food was very good. We had the salsa, guacamole and queso trio. We had chicken tacos, shrimp tacos, short rib, and fish tacos, all of which were very good. We also had the shrimp burrito and it was excellent as well. While we were on vacation in SSI Georgia this local establishment was on our "must eat here" list. We tried one day mid afternoon but the restaurant takes a break in service mid afternoon- which we get! So we came back one evening at 6pm. The place was full which is a good sign that it is great food. We grabbed spots at the bar and the bartender was fantastic! He served drinks, took our order and never missed a beat. Really good dips for chips- salsa, guacamole and cheese. Try that. We had fajitas and tacos! Hub said his taco was the best- pork Al pastor! There is inside and outside dining- quaint place. The staff and the food is always great. However the true measure of any business isn't how well things are when they are good; it's how they are managed when they go sideways and they will go sideways. Tonight we ordered take out...sadly when we got home, we realized it was missing multiple portions of both of the dinners. I contacted the restaurant to let them know of the error. They immediately apologized and said that they would have the kitchen make the missing parts for us to pick up. However, that would have forced us to leave our home and then later return to cold food. We turned down that offer. Here's where their leadership just set them apart...without even a call and within a handful of minutes the MANAGER was at our door with the missing items. He was warm, cordial and the food was hot. This place is amazing! Everyone was so nice & went out of their way to get tables together & highchairs where we needed them. They have coloring sheets & crayons for the kiddos too! You pay for chips & salsa but boy do they make it worth it is a HUGE amount of salsa & the queso comes out the same size also. Not to mention it was delicious!! Oh my gosh y'all! Probably one of the best skinny margarita's I've ever had. Hubby and I ate here on our first night of vacation and had a couple of drinks while we waited for takeout. We sat outside at a picnic table and had really wonderful service -- masks included! Our server was so sweet and attentive. She had a few tattoos on her leg, and I don't recall her name but I remember those, so want to shout her out! Came here for dinner last night! The food was great, but that's about it. The drinks were tasty/strong, chips and salsa were amazing... it's true what everyone says about the salsa! It's awesome!! The three sauces they brought out with the food were tasty and added a nice little kick with my steak! Everything came out and was still warm when it got to us! Food was really good! Never had chicaronnes cut like this but it was tasty and the chorizo was delish!!! The steak was a tad chewy buttttt the sauces they brought out were a great addiction! The rice and eggs!! Amazing! We were touring the beaches and wanted to eat some Mexican food. Some places didn't rate too well. We were also looking for a dog-friendly patio. I called ahead and we decided to meet here. Party of 9 and 2 dogs. They have a large patio with picnic tables to the left of the restaurant. It was mostly dirt because of the large trees shading the area. They told us they were going to add a deck there as soon as they can get approval. The food and drinks were hand-made and really fresh. The staff was super friendly and polite.
