Nancy and I enjoyed lunch today at Bubba Garcia's in Redfern Village, one of our favorite Mexican restaurants on St. Simons Island. The tacos were outstanding, and the loaded nachos were piled high with all the good stuff. Bubba Garcia's has a laid-back island atmosphere, friendly service, and consistently good food. It was a busy night as it was Cinco de Mayo. The food was very good, ambience was fun & service was kind of just ok. The reason I gave 4 stars, when we were seated the hostess did advise that she had a larger party she was currently assisting and was settling the tab but after 15 minutes of no attention I had to go to the bar and order a pitcher of margaritas. Which was very good. My complaint is that when we're seated the salsa & chips should have been provided and a drink order should have been asked for. Neither of these items were put into action until I went to the bar. Again, that was my only issue as the food, drink (when received) and atmosphere was fun! read more

Clean and relatively quiet inside, our server was so kind! It was a great place to watch the game and relax after a day at the beach. We loved our chips, queso, and drinks. I ordered a grilled chicken taco. Lettuce, tomatoes and onions were mush and about 3 days past being edible. Chicken was ok but no flavor. Even tortilla was not good. Beans and rice not quite warm. Been here several times for drinks and apps, not sure I ever had an actual meal. Man, what have I been missing?! The tacos were spot on, and I have a pretty high expectation for taco places given the ones in my immediate area. Full of ingredients and flavor, these things won't leave you disappointed. It's not a fancy place, think bar style ambiance, but the amount you get for your money is amazing. Two meals, with complimentary chips and salsa, sodas, a beer and a house margarita came to about $45. Not too shabby. The margarita was well made also. Service was friendly and prompt. Easiest five stars I have ever given a place. Now I'm biased because I have incredibly fond memories of going here when it first opened but it's among some of the best Tex-Mex I have ever had. It's incredibly casual so don't expect any fine dining or anything like that. It's a fun atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and attentive. The ingredients used are all very fresh and tasty. Even some of the most average Mexican food can satiate a cravings. But Bubba Garcias is a step above and just the quality and atmosphere makes it some of the best in the area. You cannot pass this up if you are on the island. read more

This place is fantastic. A bit out of the main way, but the food, service and atmosphere is awesome. We had a custom food order, using items on the menu, that the chef created into a very tasty dish. Went to Bubba Garcia's on the advice of our Uber driver and it was a big win. There is a restaurant situation downstairs and then a bar situation upstairs. We went directly to the bar after the restaurant had closed and it was a really cool scene. We just chilled at the bar, but this is a cool place to go if you want to play pool or listen to some cool music. The bartenders were really cool and everyone was having a lot of fun. They're open late night so you can hang out for awhile also! read more

My gringo taco was really good although I felt kinda embarrassed ordering it- I am comfortable in my heritage though. The salsa and chips were good and our server Samuel was really patient and kind. Disappointing visit here! It's definitely a typical Mexican restaurant with traditional dishes you can bank upon but my dish was subpar and underwhelming. I ordered the Bekah Burrito as a bowl (pictured below) and expected rice which I thought was typical in a burrito bowl (my mistake here in assuming). Also, the burrito bowl was $2 more than simply ordering the burrito even though it contains less food and is a smaller dish - so that did not make sense. My fam also said their tacos tasted unseasoned. Then we had to wait a while for our check. We had high hopes for Bubba's but probably won't be back :( read more

The food quality is atrocious. The taco meat is old and dry, the rice has nothing to do with mexican food and the black beans came from a can. The salsa was edible but the chips were from a bag. The service was friendly but lackluster. The bathrooms look like they are stil under construction. The bottled beer was excellent. The atmosphere tried to seem mexican but it look like a failure and seemed dirty. People.....I am sure you can do better. Maybe your presence will be limited. read more

The food was surprisingly good! I'm not sure why, but I wasn't expecting much lol Service was fast, as it was not very crowded. The pitcher of margarita was a great price for the amount that you get! One thing I would recommend, if you don't have an allergy to something in your meal, just let it come the way it does and pick things off. When I ordered my salad with "no pico and queso on the side", it first came out with queso mixed in, so the waitress happily took it back to get a new one, but then I ended up not getting any guacamole and having to ask for my dressing. **The hidden gem of this place is the upstairs!! There is a full bar, pool tables, dart boards and outside seating! We were there early evening, so there were only 10 people up there. We played darts, enjoyed a few beverages and the pleasant interaction with the bartender. He said it gets busier around 10 and is open until 12:30 am, but we had a great time! Sat indoors near the kitchen and smaller bar seating area on a seemingly normal night - not slow and not slammed. Chips and salsa took a while to arrive and our server took even longer. She was thorough and knowledgeable with their beer selection. Once we got our drinks she disappeared for a while without asking if we were ready to order. When she came to take our order she did not write it down. My order came out wrong. We addressed it with her when she came back. She took it to the back and we heard and saw how unprofessional the cook or owner was to her in the open. My order was corrected. The food was good. So let's begin...the chips were stale when they first brought them to us, but the salsa was very good. Reasonably priced margaritas. I ordered queso fundido and calamari. Which were both exceptional. I also had a Camerones (shrimp taco?) and it was AMAZING. The service wasn't great, she wasn't super friendly and didn't offer refills we had to ask for them. So yummmm. If you're visiting Sea Island and have a hankering for Mexican, I highly recommend Bubba Garcia's. From service to food, our experience was fabulous. The waiter was wonderful. I didn't catch his name but he took care of us big time. We were never out of chips, salsa or cheese dip. I got the Jerk chicken salad. It was soooo delicious. My husband and third born both got chicken fajitas. All of our food is was tasty and fresh. My husband got a margarita and he said it was one of the best margaritas he's ever had! I was told this was the best Mexican restaurant around so my expectations were high. The free nacho chips were okay, not warm, and our server asked if we wanted salsa or queso. Silly me, I actually thought this was a choice, so I said queso. I half a cup was $7. I wish the server would have said that when he offered it. My bad, lesson learned. Anyway, I ordered the chicken enchiladas. It came with three, along with a small scoop of rice and a small scoop of black beans. I would've preferred refried beans so I didn't eat them as I'm not a fan of black beans. (Not their fault). The rice was good and fluffy, however it was a small amount. The enchiladas with red sauce would have been good had they not covered them with a heavy amount of cheese, which was also inside the enchiladas. I had to scrape it all off the enchilada as well as from the inside. Way too thick and unappetizing. It ended up as a large cheese blob left on my plate and I felt bad about it but I just couldn't eat it. Overall, the restaurant was nice and the service was great. Knowing what I know now, I would make sure to mention to hold the cheese. Will probably get alacart tacos if I ever go back. read more

Listen!!!!!!! The Tostadas is the go to!!! The frozen margaritas are out of this world and I can't wait till next week to come back for more!!! The guy bartender was a little slow during non business hour's which I was a little upset because I was a couple minutes late because of his tardiness of checking on me but it's still 5 stars because the food was amazing!
