An impromptu restaurant stop during the UYE Tijuana adventure to feed hungry travelers. Although the group was split on staying or forging ahead to another destination, it was agreed to keep everyone together instead of dividing the group. Traffic was relatively mellow this evening along touristy Avenida Revolución. The place was quiet and mostly empty except for a few diners until this rowdy bunch arrived. We received a warm greeting from our gracious hosts. Waitstaff people suddenly appeared to quickly organize tables and chairs to accommodate a large yelper party. Service was prompt as drink orders were taken and complimentary chips & salsa brought over. Entrees were especially slower, although the kitchen pace probably wasn't prepared to quickly turn out a large order. Dishes trickled to the table 1-2 at a time. My ceviche tostada plate and side order of corn tortillas was the last order and felt like an eternity to receive. The other half of the table was done eating before I began. My food was just ok, but leaning towards mediocre IMHO. I probably wasn't drunk enough to dull my perception. Maybe I was still a bit salty from the wait time, but more bummed because we missed an opportunity to visit Tacos El Franc or Tacos El Frances. The tostada plate includes two crispy shells with a decent mound of ceviche (or meat option) and neither beans nor rice. I prefer the mixed ceviche variety with camarones y pulpo, so getting all fish with pico de gallo was a letdown. Adding a few squeezes of fresh lime and a dash of salt helped brighten the dish. The side order was two tortillas was a nice change of texture from the baskets of crunchy chips throughout the day. The detour to La Placita was a welcome break that took longer than several siestas, but the stay was pleasant and it allowed us to prepare for the evening's scenes that followed. read more

This is an open air cookery. The Abuelita cooking makes her corn tortillas by hand. YES! There is a bowl of fresh veggies sitting right in front of her! YaY! She'll grill up some Serrano chilies if you ask for it. The pico de gallo is fresh & delicious! The owner speaks great English & is very welcoming. The carne asada meat was very good! They have a full bar! The 1 drawback is--if you don't speak Spanish--the food servers were Spanish speaking only. But this didn't affect the food!! read more

Well, this restaurant is placed right in the center of the Revolución. The restaurant has open doors and a view to see outside. They also have 2 tables in the front to eat. Which I do not recommend since there's constant people walking back and forth and right next to you there's car passing by. Their food was not bad but not amazing. I ordered camarones ala plancha and they were not juicy but dry. Their food plate was well organized and good portion. They did have good customer service and amazingly I had a good show of an artist that walked in to sale his product. read more

Place was pretty empty and they seated our large group with no problem. The best part was that they were able to give us separate checks. I was starving after a long day of shenanigans, I ordered the chicken flautas (so hungry I forgot to take a picture). They were okay but nothing to rave about. This was literally where the cabbie dropped us off after catching a ride from the border crossing. We were hungry, confused, in a strange city, off the internet, and wanting lunch. A gentleman out front invite us in, and with no way to check Yelp we agreed. To be clear, everyone was very nice from start to finish. As someone who was nervous about the prospect of the mysterious "Tijuana" I didn't know if I should expect the mexican Hamburgler to be waiting around every corner planning to mug me or what. The problem was that the food just wasn't all that good. Maybe I was expecting some kind of magical mexican food transformation across the border, but I felt that my Beef Burrito had too much Tomato sauce, and the sauce itself was pretty watery. If your cab driver drops you off here, I'm afraid I'd encourage you to keep going on down the street. read more

Has a nice patio, but food is mostly mediocre. Nothing is bad but nothing is amazing. Had steak nachos and guacamole and chips. Like the inside of this place. We moved inside after a bit because it got chilly upstairs and got a cute little table by the window so we could still people watch. String drinks and necessary tequila. Great spot!...Right in the heart of downtown Tijuana on Revolucion. Aunthentic Mexican food! They make the tortillas right there in front of you..Service is excellent ..the entire staff was very attentive. Will be back next time in town. Service was bad, the lady would ask what we wanted while she was talking to other customers and we got our beer order wrong, we asked for cheese in our burrito and no cheese she brought it out 15 minutes later. Fun place to stop for lunch or breakfast. Both times we have been there we went in for an early lunch. The Chilequiles were good, with red sauce, and next time I will try them with green chile sauce. My friend got Cheese Enchiladas with scrambled eggs. And just to add, both of these meals were awesome with Tecate. I couldn't finish my portion. Very reasonable prices as well; $18 for two entrees and two beers. read more

I visited this restaurant on 04/07/18 through a Tijuana tour from Five Star Tours. Our group had about 10 people in it, and the restaurant was empty so we were seated immediately. As I stated, this restaurant was selected through the tour company, so we knew beforehand we would have tacos. The restaurant didn't tell us what kind of tacos and our driver asked beforehand if anybody in the group were vegetarians (2 raised their hand). Chips and pico de Gallo were served before our meal came out. The meal was just two plain beef tacos (meat had no seasoning) and some refried beans. The waiters were always in a rush around us and not fully sticking around to listen to your order. My mom and I decided to order some margaritas (which I asked for them to be frozen); in return we were given a watery slush that they called a margarita. Although they were cheap (about $5 each), when it was time to pay...I gave one of the male workers in a white shirt and thick mustache the money and he basically demanded "no tip? No tip". Although me and my mom were going to put a tip on the table, it was rude of him to just demand one right away. The restaurant is located on a busy street on Av. Nice service and a great amount of seating indoors with a few tables outside on the sidewalk. The chiles rellenos appetizer was big enough for two people to split (at least!)- the waiter also put it onto two plates for us. The free chips and salsa starter was great with homemade chips. The restaurant is right on the main street, so you have a good view of people watching (both tourists and locals). We were not harassed by locals while eating outside in the sidewalk seating area, which was nice. This is always my favorite "people watching" spot to sit outside on Revolution Ave. while enjoying a margarita and carne asada tacos. The Abrahams (both managers are named Abraham) are always friendly. The food and drinks are reasonably priced for a good time. After a long day... I was able to find this spot open late at night, just 10 mins before closing they said they were able to sit me. Ok, so their fryer was already off, I was only able to order tacos or similar. I decided to order a quesadilla with carne asada. It was disgusting. My plate was full of oil, the most greasiest quesadilla ever. The mean was thinly sliced, small pieces, and the flour tortilla tasted as if it was dipped in oil before warming it. I also asked for several things to be excluded from the quesadilla such as onions and pico de gallo, and they were still kindly enough to put it on the plate. I had to flag down the server so I can have the check and get out, but it didn't end here. After they handed me the check, I gave them my credit card. They came back charging my card in dollar currency and not MX pesos, and at their own exchange low rate, lol. They really know how to pocket from tourist. I had to ask them to cancel the transaction, because I was not going to pay for their outrages exchange rate. I finally paid with cash in MX pesos, and got out! Maybe I'm over reacting, but if you're a grease, fat, oil lover, then maybe this is the spot for you. This is really not your typical style of Mexican food. read more
