Likely our favorite restaurant in D.C. It's a neighborhood spot where you will generally see locals and occasional celebrity journalists and VIPs. Regardless they treat everyone as a VIP. We have yet to have anything but a stellar dinner there. The way they are able to source very high quality meats and fish must be a trade secret. However, once we walked through the doors we realized that its a pretty good sized bistrot. They even have a full bar and patio seating out front. Very nice! We ordered Amish Goat Cheese and Beets as our starter. It was so good that I didnt have a chance to get a picture for this review! Lol! I've had goat cheese before and hated it. But this cheese was so creamy I wouldn't have known it was goat if I hadn't read it on the menu first. For my entree I had the Grilled Norwegian Salmon. Both my colleague and client went with the Seared Sea Scallops. We decided to share so that we could sample both dishes. Everything tasted great! I was very impressed! We finished the our dining experience with Crème Brulée for dessert. I've tried this dessert once before and hated it. La Piquette's Crème Brulée was delicious! Yet again they changed my mind about a dish I've tried before which isnt easy to do with me. Thank you La Piquette team! The menu is a little pricey, but the food more than makes up for the cost. Good French food and really good (un-French) service at this pleasant bistro in Cleveland Park. There is not much of a view, but there's a bunch of outdoor seating, and we sat at the edge of the interior with the full doors open to the patio because it was a nice day. The Red Ginger Fizz was a nice cocktail with which to start - the pomegranate and ginger help counteract the bite of the champagne. We also had a French Mule, sort of a sweet alcoholic lemonade. The pan-seared Fois Gras with stewed apples and red wine reduction was nice - most places don't make it fresh to order - but not the best we've had. My omelette basquaise was really a frittata with peppers and potatoes, with a side salad. It was simple and tasty. The salmon tartare was probably the best dish, layered atop some avocado. The mushroom risotto was indulgently heavy, so my daughter still had plenty to take home. We tried three desserts, a silly overkill, and they were all rich and flavorful. read more

Great food! Loved the steak frites and duck a l'orange. The meats were cooked perfectly and the flavors were spectacular. Only minor complaint is that the frites were way too salty, but they were still enjoyable in small doses. We also got the escargot and they are prepared differently than most other French restaurants we've been to but it wasn't bad. I've been to La Piquette several times before and it was good. Got delivery this time. They still have my favorite dish (duck confit) and the preparation remains excellent. The skin is crispy and the meat is dark and drenched the rendered duck fat. Also got a side of frites, which were crispy enough, but may have suffered a little from being dragged across the city. Whenever I'm in D.C. I always visit La Piquette which not only has some of the best French bistro food in the country, but is also one the most consistent in food quality and service. The interior is "lively" and tables along the banquette are close enough to accommodate eavesdropping on intimate conversations so it's best not to get into those types of discussions here. A recent visit introduced me to a tense "lover's tiff" conversation I'd rather not have heard! At any rate, our meals (Steak Frites and a fish special) were fantastic as always. Prices are very moderate for D.C. and the quality you receive. Although I didn't get to Sunday brunch on my last trip, La Piquette's is my favorite in town. Go! read more

Wandering the area after visiting a well known cathedral we stumbled upon this restaurant. La piquette was Cozy and tucked away. Waiter promptly came and was always attentive throughout our meal. We ordered the salmon tartar (super fresh), skate wing (my first time having skate and it was oh-so delicious), and the beef short ribs (tender and hearty). I knew I could park in the garage where the Giant is and La Piquette validates after 7:00pm. Free parking in DC, WooHoo! Therefore, I can't comment on the ambience of the petite restaurant because I had my back to it, and we were seated at a table smack next to the swinging door to the kitchen. If I return, I will make sure to be seated at a more central location. I guess having a reservation didn't mean much. The food was very good. We both opted for the $35 RW menu, and we both started with escargot. This is not your typical snails in garlicky butter variety. It was quite spicy. Hard to describe, and my pic doesn't quite show it too well. Save some of their delicious French bread for dipping into the sauce the snails come in. For my entrée I had the mushroom risotto. It had a mix of wild mushrooms; hen of the woods is my most favorite mushroom of all. It was very creamy and delicious. My pal had the "baseball cut" steak frites. My Languedoc red wine ($10) was a great pairing. For dessert I chose their gateau a l'orange. A very simple, yet comforting cake. I liked the brand of tea (Palais des Thes) they serve.
