If you're like me and get easily influenced by people's reviews, pay attention. This is the most down-to-earth, non-pretentious, clean, and chill Pilates studio I've been to. I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty judgemental. As a Pilates lover, I admit I can be biased towards Pilates peeps. I envision yoga moms that shop at Whole Foods and eat almonds for dessert as the type to do Pilates. Yes, I judge. Am I trying to change? No. But while I am a lil judgey mcgee, I am honest in my reviews. I've felt welcomed into this studio since Day One. Had the pleasure of being introduced to the studio by Danny & Fabian. Very sweet dudes. Got a quick introduction to the reformer which isn't the OG reformer that has the springs attached to the bottom of the carriage, it's a tiny bit more intricate but works the same in providing a good, no impact workout. Studio: it's perfect. Small enough for introverts to feel comfortable without big gym intimidation creeping in. Big enough for everyone to have distance to comfortably work out without someone else's sweat landing on you. No showers or lockers rooms, which I don't find necessary but there is a bathroom in the back left corner of the studio, next to the weights rack. You're provided with sanitizing spray and a towel to clean up your weights/machine after use so it is cleaned multiple times a day, and disinfected by staff at the end of the day as well. Clients: friendly, no issues so far. Advanced Pilates peeps can kind of tell when you're new and they are quick to help if needed, obviously as is the instructor, all you have to do is ask. Price: honestly I might regret writing this, (Art/Ashley please ignore) but I personally think it's a steal. I am currently paying $209/mo for unlimited classes. Let me put this into a different perspective for my little broke baddies out there, some studios charge $200 PER CLASS. Unlimited classes means you can come everyday (booking is in advance, don't just show up you lil silly goose) Can sign up for classes through their app, which they go over with you once you sign up. They have other payment plans as well, just ask anyone at the front, they're all great. Staff: Sam, Ariana, Britney, Danny & Alex are all the receptionists I've met and they're all equally cool, helpful & friendly. I've only spoken to Art on the phone and he is an extremely genuine dude. Instructors: All the instructors have varying styles of classes/teaching methods but they are all great. I'll admit, I have my favorites and no I will not mention them because that's totally rude. But they're all great. Fabian was my first instructor and he turned me onto signing up for the classes immediately. His class was fast paced, however, very doable. I was sweating instantly and seeing God by the end of it. I am joking, relax people. Class was great. Structured & cardio centered so was able to get some precious endorphins. Thanks Fabian, I needed those. Faira is my Pilates Fairy Godmother. She is exciting, fun, personable and keeps her classes fresh, so everyday is something new. Last week she taught us how to walk on a tightrope it was insane! (Kidding) Seriously speaking though, I adore her and wish she had more days at the studio. She is perky, sweet & extremely attentive with the class. She demonstrates every move prior, so nobody is lost. Excellent instructor. Veronica is fiery. Drill Sergeant of Pilates and I mean that in the most positive, respectful way. She is encouraging, engaging, and pushes you without pressure. She allows breaks in between quick bursts of cardio and communicates with her class. Very socialable and direct. Class is very structured & repetitive so easy to learn and grasp quickly so you can advance faster in Pilates. She also has the best playlist of music. Melinda: unpopular opinion maybe but her class has been the hardest for me. She is nice & respectful but the classes are always just one step ahead of me and I feel like I can't catch my breath. I need my breaks, woman. She uses a lot of Pilates terminology, which might be confusing for beginners, so just be sure to ask! She is challenging but effective. Ashley: I've only taken one class with Ashley and it was great. Combination of bursts and slow downs, feels like those fancy instructors you see on TV in like spinning classes or something. Right next to Crimson Coward so all I smell is fried chicken upon leaving class and my salivary glands can't take it. Jokes aside there is ample parking. If you are facing the post office, the studio is to the left of it, down an outdoor corridor and it's the last door on the right. Helpful tips: beginners can and SHOULD ask questions! I love LA Pilates in Downey. Connie is an excellent instructor that carefully begins the class with a warmup that prepares us for more specific moves that will strengthen our legs, core and arms. Been coming here for 3 years now and love it. I have arthritis and doing weights just isn't as easy as it used to be. Never felt intimidated or embarrassed coming to classes here. Everyone is helpful and just want to see you succeed and be the best version of yourself. There are different types of instructors and classes that will suit almost any need. Classes open two weeks in advance and there are four locations to choose from. Classes are about 50 Minutes long, and you'll definitely see results! I had always been curious about Pilates and fortunately saw an ad for a free class from LA Pilates (as well as other local studios). I tried them all but fell in love with LA Pilates. I like the capabilities of the style of reformer they use and the variety of classes they offer. Since I began my journey two years ago, I've worked out at each of their locations and tried every type of class. I can confidently say I am the fittest I've been since my teen days of playing sports! And I am constantly amazed and excited to experience how strong I am. I appreciate that each instructor has their own style and that the classes consist of folks from all different fitness levels. I came to LA Pilates for the first time because I seen them promoting their classes on instagram. I was beyond excited to find a new location closer to home, but it was not what I expected. The instructor I had her name was Lucia and she was beyond rude with an attitude. It made me feel uncomfortable because it was my first time and she got upset multiple times when it came to me using the reformer. It's understandable to make mistakes but it was very unfortunate to have an instructor who's not patient. If you're going to be promoting your classes make sure youre also being professional. read more

I agree with the other posts regarding pricing. The pricing is ridiculous! First of all, they do not offer classes all day. They open only a few hours early morning close mid-day and open late afternoon. They also only offer 2 different classes sculpt or flow but if you look online, they mostly offer flow, flow, flow classes. So, it would seem they do not really want you to progress and keep paying them. Unlimited is really not unlimited because the man at the front Art who is pretty rude kept saying you don't have to come that often. WTH? I guess they want it to be like a gym membership where you pay but don't actually show up. LOL One bathroom unisex, no amenities and they want to charge so much? Also, he is not a trainer, doctor, nutritionist and was talking as if he knew so much to tell me what was best for me. I was turned off by the approach of taking a quick intro class not told of prices and then hit with a sheet that I could not take with me and he said was only grand opening prices. Sounded very shady and it just turned me off completely. He seemed friendlier with some of the ladies than others. I guess the ones he figured he could sucker into signing up. I want to do Pilates but will seek another more professional location. Maybe if they changed their prices and more friendlier personnel to work at this location than this man, I might consider it but for now it's a hard pass! BEWARE!! They tried to cheat me and used my credit card without my permission!! My bank alerted me of a $149 charge this morning. I recently attended their "free" class and was told I had to purchase pilates socks. I paid for the socks using my credit card... big mistake!! After the class I was told 10 sessions were $129! When I texted them to sign up a few days later, I was told the classes were now $149! I tried to ask and clarify but got zero response. I called and spoke with Art and then he said its actually $169 even tho I have texts from him where I was quoted $149! I was told 3 different prices within the last 5 days!! First it was $129, then I was told via text it was $149 and then I was told it was $169. And the fact that other reviewers had their credit card charged without their authorization shows you that they are doing this with intent. Shady and sketchy business here. read more

If you're not experienced and in shape don't take the class with Veronica. She's rude, the minute you make a mistake instead of helping you she puts you on the spot in front of the entire class and doesn't take the time to help you. She usually hangs out in the back corner chatting about her personal life. You have to schedule your class weeks in advance and if you don't use your classes you lose them (even if it's because none were available for you to sign up). Getting into classes is hard, you can sign up for waitlist and if you're lucky they will call you 15 minutes before the class starts to let you know there's an open spot. read more

Only liked it cause it was free but our instructor wasn't even doing the exercises so for the first time I had no idea what I was doing. I looked around and everyone was looking at each other. She wasn't even in shape was the funny part. She seemed to be sick with a scarf wrapped around her neck and coughing into it. I would have appreciated if she didn't wanna do the exercises but at least came up to us and corrected our form. I really wanted to like it but I think I just had a bad experience with this instructor specifically. She didn't even greet us as we were leaving since the guy at the front asked if we wanted to sign up and I said I'll call back. She knew I wasn't coming back. read more

I started talking classes at the Norwalk piLAtes location when they opened. I love everything about this place: they know your name; there are only 12 spots available in any given class, so it's easy for the instructor to see & correct your form; it WORKS! Since 2010, I have done 20+ half marathons & without fail, I have always been sore for a day or two following a race. The attached photo is the mileage & elevation gain of an event I did this past weekend - 38 miles of dirt, rocks, & sand, 3600ish feet of elevation gain. I fully admit my run/hiking training was lacking, I should have been EXTREMELY sore after Day 1 (Bryce Canyon) but thanks to pilates, I wasn't! By Day 3, I was singing the praises of reformer based/instructor lead pilates to anyone who would listen! The pricing at piLAtes is responsible compared to a 24/LA when you think about what you get for your membership. Every class at piLAtes is small, so it's like a personalized session. To get the personalized training a at regular gym, you pay extra & then they push supplements & more training (more money). I've been doing classical Pilates on my own and was thrilled a studio opened in Downey. It's a 15 minute drive for me but worth it. I'm learning how to use the reformer without hurting myself. I've tried most of the instructors but I finally found that Mely is the one that truly respects the classic principles of Joseph Pilates. It's not about killer cardio workouts it's about slowly and methodically working the small muscles to strengthen the larger muscles. Some classes are better left for regular gyms.I like that Mely is very knowledgeable , helpful, friendly and supports us to work at our own pace. I truly appreciate her. The staff is very nice and accommodating. Art has been a champ since the first day I went in to take the first trial class . If I had to make suggestions , they would be to have instructors focus more on abs and upper body strength more and also to try to stay true to the Pilates principals more. The place is super clean. La la love it! I hate running but needed to tone up and build muscle. From the first day I went to the intro class, I knew I wanted to become a member and continue. It's amazing! You'll see results quickly (I go 2-3 times a week). I am breathing better, my muscles are beginning to pop, I feel stronger, more flexible and I'm overall happier. The Pilates reformer (machine) is the coolest because it really does help you go through all the exercises smoothly. The instructors are all nice and care about your physical state. They are also sensitive about any injuries or health issues you may have and they accommodate to your needs. The dates and hours are also great. This location is a little bit of a drive for me but it's worth it. I love taking Veronica's classes here. Very intense but I do see results.

So I tried the free class and decided to purchase 10 classes the person that helped me said if I decide to stay on board I will be automatically charged for another 10 classes on the 27th of every month with the credit card I used to pay for the membership .however if I don't want to stay with the gym all I had to do was tell them and that's it. Sounded fair so I signed up with the impression that it's only the 10 classes. During one of the classes I paid for a Water bottle and some socks with a completely different credit card.... So after 5 classes I really didn't think Pilates was for me. So I emailed them on March 14 to advise I would not be renewing and to please cancel my membership. Did not receive an email back just a bunch of phone calls during my works hours. I responded via text that I wouldn't be returning to the studio so please cancel I sent another email asking for confirmation to cancel me. I got concerned and I blocked the credit card I had on file. On 3/23 I finally get an email confirming my cancelation. However I got a notification from my credit card... the one I used to pay for the socks and water bottle that LA Pilates charged me $169.00! Why would they keep my card on file just for paying for a water bottle???? So I called them and guy answered and he tells me that everyone automatically has to pay for 2 months!!! I told him that's not what I was told!! And I asked him why did they keep my card on file?? I didn't authorize that and that's not the card I had on file!! He said well we have your signature... and you are welcome to use the credit you have for the classes!! I don't want to step foot in there what I want is my money back. This place is dishonest when you sign up new members tell them it's AUTOMATICALLY 2 months and you have to cancel 30 days before the billing oh and we will keep any credit card you ever use on file! read more

Listen to the bad reviews. I made a mistake and gave them the benefit of the doubt solely on the fact that this was the closest Pilates place near me. There aren't many options for classes, always full, and you typically get notified last minute. I tried to cancel the first time and the owner offered me extra free classes so I stayed in order to try and make this place work with my work schedule. Today, I get into a class and receive a text so I go out of my way to make the class. I make it to the studio and all spots are taken. The teacher tells me I missed it by a second. I was expected to leave after driving 30 mins. It was ridiculous. BY A SECOND. I wish these policies were actually mentioned and talked about. They are never in the app or the confirmations you received. This was the first time I ever heard of this "rule." I was very upset and done with this place. The receptionist didn't even know how to cancel the membership and had to reach out 3 times in order to reach the owner who just sounds money hungry and greedy. Very bad experience here and to top it off, the classes aren't even great! read more

If you don't have a good physical shape and don't know how to use the machines as the teachers say, some teachers like Veronica don't have the patience to show it to You, she says she doesn't have time and that she has to continue the class, but she has time to chat and make jokes with other students. This place makes you welcome until you sign the contract then change with you when they see that you do not have the skill they expect, so if you are a beginner and want to do something different fun and pleasant this place is not for you because I felt bothered to go to the place I am paying and respect been careful with the machines because I do have extra care for things that is not mine, but I demand more respect and kindness from the stuff. If don't have patient to be a teacher this is not a Job for you. I do have others gym membership and I do feel Welcome but not at this place. I'm a longtime member, and my unlimited membership allows me the freedom to visit all their locations (Downey, Norwalk, Carlsbad). I've recently started going to the Downey location more often, and it is just as great as the Norwalk location is. Art and Danny work hard to maintain a fantastic space with brand new Pilates gravity reformer machines. They are great with communication...if I want to book or cancel a class and don't have access to the app, a quick text message can make all my arrangements. The equipment and the facility is spotless, new, and modern while being very cozy at the same time. Art and Danny staff this location with fantastic instructors. Rocky, Simone, Veronica, Mely, Lulu, Chrys, and Ashley are all terrific. They each have their own unique styles of teaching and really fun music playlists...rock, rap, R&B, soul, pop, folk, old school tunes...the variety is great. The instructors are so energetic and encouraging. They walk around to help provide modifications for folks with injuries and really take the time to show newcomers the ropes. Classes are limited to 12 people, and I think that's the perfect size...big enough to be fun, but small enough for the instructors to give everyone attention. They try their hardest to make everyone feels comfortable. The workouts vary all day long. There are a lot of Pilates reformer classes, but there's a fair sprinkling of CardioSculpt (jumpboard), TRX Suspension, yoga and stretch classes. A full body workout can easily be achieved with any of these classes. There's something so wonderful about a solid workout. Here, there's a mixture of playing with lighter hand weights, rings, straps, and ballet balls in addition to using the reformer machines. I always feel so good after a workout or two...I feel lighter and properly stretched out and super relaxed. Not saying that it isn't challenging, I've been taking classes for almost 2 years and I'm still finding areas where I can improve or get stronger. I love the fact that there's always a new personal goal for me to achieve. These classes have really helped tone my body and I feel great. The location of this studio is super convenient, too. Lots of parking and really close to the 5, 605, and 105 freeways. The schedules make it super easy to drop in for a class or two before or after work. I hop off the 5 after work and it's less than 5 minutes away from the freeway. I've been meaning to start a regiment of coming before work, but I personally dislike waking up early...but it's always a goal. There's a really wonderful community of members, too. Experienced members are always more than willing to help newbies who may find the new equipment intimidating. Everyone is super supportive of each other, and on occasion, we grab drinks or brunch after a session with our instructors. There's been some discussion regarding pricing at this studio. Pricing changes depending on various promotions, so it's best to contact the studio direct. However, I can say that I spent a lot of time researching and reviewing various Pilates reformer studios prior to making a commitment. Unlimited memberships at comparable studios on the Westside and South Orange County easily go for $400 or more per month. LA Pilates Fitness is no where near that kind of highway robbery. And you get high quality staff and managers operating a fun place to work out. I had actually tried out Club Pilates before committing to LA Pilates Fitness and found that I did not like the instructors nor did I like the lack of communication at Club Pilates...it never seemed organized. I have had zero problems in the almost 2 years of membership with LA Pilates Fitness. I can text or call if I want to make a last minute booking. I've never had any trouble booking classes 1 month in advance using the app or website. There are times where classes fill up, but if you waitlist, it's very likely you'll get in. The instructors are incredibly nice and fun. Art and Danny run a tight ship and make great efforts to take care of their members. I've also heard that there are great trial memberships where you can try out a few classes for literally next to nothing...this is such a great option for folks not familiar with reformer Pilates. read more

He couldn't get my name right due to him speaking over me. The entire time he thinks I'm trying to get a new membership, and when I correct him saying i am trying to cancel my membership. Love coming here, the gym itself is always so clean & you can really tell their employees/trainers genuinely take care of their facility and really like what they do!
