I am so pleased to write a 5 star review for Balanced Energy Studio in Whittier. I am 68. I have been working on correcting years of poor posture, and poor body mechanics, most likely caused by sitting at a desk for 40 years. The staff here have been very professional in providing instruction that meets my specific needs, and to supplement physical therapy. I have the highest praise for Laurel Negrych who has been my private instructor. Her ability to listen to my concerns and then watch my movements to help me strengthen weak muscles and relax tight muscles has been amazing. If you're new to Pilates, this is the place to start. Instructors are patient and will modify the movement to your ability! The studio is clean and roomy! Students are all shapes and sizes...from beginning through advanced. All are welcome! I posted my first review about this yoga studio over 7 years ago. Since then, my feelings about the studio have changed .....I love this place even MORE! The owner is professional, talented, fair, and the sweetest person ever. The staff is knowledgeable, talented, professional, reliable, helpful, and are great yoga instructors. The studio is clean and decorated very zen! Makes me happy. The studio saved me during the pandemic. They were very quick to find a solution and started virtual (Zoom back then) classes soon after the lock down. They are the only studio I know of in the area that continues to offer regular livestreams of the yoga classes which, given my schedule/circumstances, has been a lifesaver. There are also many regulars I've met who take classes at the studio....this also helps to keep me motivated! read more

I'm going to be completely honest, I've been putting off this review for some time now because I was afraid that everyone would find out about this amazing gem of a studio in Whittier, it would become super popular and then I would never be able to get in for a class! I know, sounds silly, but that's how much I love this studio!!!! However, the time has come for me to share how wonderful and transformative coming to this studio has been for me. Wendy the owner is super knowledgeable and really wants you to get the most out of each class. Laurel teaches reformer classes and pushes you to places you never thought you could take your body! I'm obsessed with Wendy and Laurel's reformer classes and am constantly trying to find extra time in my day to get in another class. I like that they both expect a lot from you because it shows they care about your experience. I also enjoy Magda's yoga and mat Pilates. Magda is just an all around great person and a seasoned yoga instructor. They have a good variety of class times and options, with my favorite being the 5am reformer classes. It seems like typically, if you are new to the reformer, you will have a private intro class with Wendy, where she teaches about the importance of breathing, how to use the machine, and I think she wants to ensure you can handle the machine. I'm so happy she does this because I went into my first class feeling confident with the reformer and my breathing. I really like the results I've seen since coming to this studio. My body feels stronger and leaner-not bulky. There's just so many wonderful things about this studio I could go on forever! I'm so grateful to Balanced Energy Studios! read more

If I could give this zero stars I would!!! This place is not encouraging at all. I went in for a session and since I'm a beginner I have trouble doing some of the exercises, and instead of the instructor helping me she pulled me outside and asked me to leave because "I don't fit in". That was so discouraging, I went home and I cried about this experience. I told my daughter about this unpleasant situation. Please if you are older like me, do not come to this place. read more

I take private Pilates Classes with Wendy and she is an amazing instructor! I started feeling better and had an expanded range of motion within the first 2 weeks. Before I started with Wendy I had aches and pain all over my body. I could barely get up if I bent down to pick something up. Now I rarely have aches and I can get up easily if I have to pick something up - a huge improvement. Super-clean facility. Easy scheduling. Came into Pilates a little unsure and didn't know what to expect. I've always just gone to a gym. Within weeks of joining BES I dropped my gym membership. I've been in Wendy's classes for over 3 months now. My body is much more toned. My legs look better than ever! This summer I've gotten multiple compliments about them. One of my friends even told me, "your legs look so good, I hate you." Best.Complement.Ever. The vibe is very chill. Wendy is an excellent instructor and really knows her shit. Where do I start? I absolutely love this studio! I started out with back pain and poor posture looking for a new exercise, a few months later, I am stronger and that pain is a distant memory! I am beyond grateful to have found this space. Wendy is a fantastic teacher. I have learned so much from her-not only about pilates but, ways to apply these movements in daily life. She is always offering modifications and/or challenges to tailor to each individual while guiding the group in a knowledgable and thoughtful way. After months of suffering constant back, shoulder, arm and neck pain/discomfort - enough was enough. The medical community recommended pain blockers ie temporary relief not addressing the problem. A huge Yelper and clueless. I checked out 5 surrounding area Pilates studios. Decided on BES for several key reasons. Wendy's personal attentiveness to customer service is a 5 star. The studio is well equipped, spacious and a soothing space. The competitive pricing a total plus. Averaging Reformer classes only twice weekly, its been 2 months and completely off pain meds. Feeling so grateful, not to be the crooked lady for life. I am more cognizant physically and mentally. So excited with the progress and looking forward to more transformation. This place is wonderful. Every time I come in it's a great experience. I've done pilates with Wendy she is very professional and takes her time to make sure you are doing the exercises correct and your form is spot on. I've attended the sound bowl classes love them. Even my kids enjoyed the experience. Will continue to do. They give me peace and allow me to open mind and realize what I have to deal with to move forward and get better. I recently tried the yoga and meditation class and the gentleman conducting that class was awesome. Doing yoga was my first time he offered different poses that best fit me thank you for that. The meditation was get being walked thru it and allow to free my mind of my thoughts and take in something new was very interesting. I loved it. I also just tried there Saturday $5 yoga class and that to I loved. The instructor was wonderful helping me with the poses and understanding my limits. I felt it the next day so I know it was a great workout. It also gave me engery to get thru the day and it helped me with my attitude. I suffer from anxiety and this class actually helped my mind frame that even my kids noticed my mood was completely different. So thank you for that I'm going to invest in talking more classes both pilates for my physical health and yoga for my mental health. And try to attend the other classes the sound bowl and yoga with meditation to help balance everything. They need more than 5 stars. I love it here so much!! Today was my first day and everyone is so so nice and sweet ! Instructors were very attentive even though it's a group class. I especially appreciate it when they correct my posture because I have scoliosis and having the wrong posture might bend the spine even more. Students were very friendly and helpful too! Definitely finished my exercise with all of the positive energy. It truly put your mind at peace and make you focus fully on your body. What a lovely studio! I have now taken several virtual classes with Balanced Energy Studios and I must say...WOW! Each class along with the instructors was amazing. Pilates with Paul gives you an amazing workout but also leaves you feeling stretched, relaxed and calm. I've never been able to feel both worked and relaxed from a class before! He is very thorough in describing each move so I don't feel like I have to strain my neck trying to look at my computer screen during the moves. Yoga with Wendy and Magda were both equally as amazing. I only wish I lived closer to the studio to take in person classes when this pandemic is over. I have always been intimidated by Pilates Studios, but I am so glad I tried this place. Balanced Energy Studios is so welcoming and accommodating to beginners. I started with a semi-private class to learn some of the language and the basics. Wendy explains and demonstrates the moves very clearly and she is easy to follow- even for someone as uncoordinated as I am! I love her classes and it is clear that she is able to adjust the class make sure people at different levels get the most out of each session. This is a great studio...very clean and attractive, and Wendy and Lily are excellent Pilates instructors. They give us a good workout, but they are also very encouraging and focused on proper form and breathing. I started Pilates with the expectation of being more flexible and improve my balance. I had recently had back surgery and found Wendy very knowledgable about the physical limitations I had at the time. My artificial knee replacement of ten years also affected my stability. I started coming here this March when they were doing yoga class promotion deals. Elizabeth Romero, who teaches Yoga here 8:30am M-F, is my favorite yoga teacher. I discovered her 5 or 6 years ago at my local 24 hrs fitness and was astounded by how good she was. I had to stop yoga for awhile for family reason and when I resumed she had left that 24 hrs. I was so happy to find Elizabeth again at balanced energy studio. It's so much better here than 24 hrs, Elizabeth can give a lot of personal attention and correct my form as I'm not sharing her with 40 other people. I also love the fact that she addresses the spiritual aspect at each practice. When the promotion ended, I purchased the 10 mat classes at $10 at time. Yes paying for Yoga is new for me as I'm used to 24 hrs, but I'm finding the results I get is worth it. my time is precious and I want to make the most of it. read more
