Then, get the coccolo with truffle straciatella. But: get one per person. Do NOT attempt to share this because the first person who tastes it will knife the rest of you just to keep it. It's one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth. Yes, I've had two cocktails before writing this, be quiet, maybe YOU'RE the one with the problem, did you ever think of that? This restaurant was recommended to us by a good friend that just happened to find it. It's top of the Italian charts with prices like your local place. I can only say good things about it! I had a tomato, basil, mozzarella salad (caprise) and mussels. The hit of the show in the salad was the mozzarella- no, wait the wonderfully ripe tomatoes - no wait, it was the basaltic dressing. Ok, maybe it all of that put together! Then those mussels came out. Hot, sweet, in a delicate and I do mean delicate sauce that I was just forced to sop up with that delicious Italian bread that came with it! Oooooooo....., My wife had the monkfish with salmon in a champagne sauce and she said it was wonderful, I tried it and I completely agree with her assessment! This is the best restaurant hands down in Florence. We went on vacation for a week and ate dinner pretty much every evening at the Restaurants la posta. The food is sublime, everything that came out of the kitchen was handmade. The outdoor seating was excellent, made great memories. This is a must try restaurant. The owner is a great guy, very welcoming. As appreciation he would send out dishes for us to try. The fresh, just picked portobello was delicious, if you like mushrooms that is. Been here for breakfast/brunch on a Sunday morning. They have an American breakfast and a French breakfast on the menu, 8 euro each. What to say? Disappointing, bland, not very special. American pancakes served with no syrup or anything, overdone scrambled eggs and an half decent bacon slice. Coffee was good. The French option is quite basic too, not worth the money. The only thing that saves this place is the fact that sitting in nearby, more famous, places you spend more. read more

The atmosphere was romantic, the patio was warm under the heat lamps and I thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience with them. We had the mussels in white wine, ravioli rosa, steak and osso bucco. Everything was wonderful. The mussels had great flavor and consistency. I asked for my steak medium rare, but they brought it rare. Because I love steak, it wasn't a big deal with me. Do not eat here. We thought there was something wrong with the beer (smelled like urine) but we didn't want to complain. Sometimes you are not sure if you are imagining things. The waiter asked if there were any problems. We told him. We saw the guy behind the counter smell it and make a face when he tested the glass. He said they think it was the glass not the beer. So someone peed in the glass? We asked them to take it off the bill. They refused. We asked why there were also TWO surcharges adding up to nearly 10euro. Out of 3 major cities we've never had so many charges for service fees and we refused the bread. He couldn't explain but said the waiters don't see the money. He was very sorry he couldn't do anything. The two orders of crostini were horrible and we scrapped all of the toppings off to eat the bread so we'd have something to eat. Skip it, please. Now one of our party is in the bathroom throwing up. I rarely leave a bad review but this was the worst experience I've had in 18 days of Italy and France! read more

If upon arriving we had received one ounce of warm service, this review would have been wholly different. I'm normally not a review writer, mostly because my stomach has a broad range and as long as I'm taken care of at a restaurant and the food can be stomached, I'm pretty content. My husband and I, probably relatively american-looking (no cameras laced around our necks or giant backpacks...but who should honestly be caring--we're on vacation with Euros to spend), arrived around 915pm to this restaurant after a good day of sightseeing/exploring and picked it because it appeared to have a relatively extensive menu. We sat down at the relatively packed restaurant and decided what we wanted to drink. Having had a bottle of red at lunch (we're in Tuscany!) we decided on a bottle of the house red. The waiter stopped over, I attempted to order our bottle, and he completely cut me off in the middle of my (decidedly broken Italian) order because he wanted our water order and that was all. We were not feeling the €4.50 water prices, so all we wanted was wine. He came back after a few minutes and took the wine order. A couple of minutes later he glugged (literally the only word I can use to describe it because we've only had taste-a-sip-then-nod wine purchases before this in Italy) it into our glasses and set off being friendly to the other apparent connoisseurs in the seating area for the night. My husband is bordering on livid. I dismiss. We ordered 2 primi piatti and a meat dish to share. I ordered risotto with asparagus and a pasta with tomatoes and mozzarella, with a veal scallopini with mozzarella. The food comes quite fast. If I understand correctly, there's a certain way risotto should turn out. Creamy, cheesy (?), delicious. It was boiled rice with overcooked asparagus. My husband's pasta was slightly better, with fresh tomatoes and mozzarella. The thinly sliced veal (supposed to be tender, right? Was tough and overseasoned). Anyway, the moral of the story is that this place charges 10% (I'd say relatively unheard of in Italy) for service and still looks down on those it interprets as under-class. I've been to 200% more touristy restaurants and have had better food and better service. I'd never dine here again. read more

Very attractive restaurant, comfortable, nice outdoor seating. Owner, hostess, all very friendly. Shoo'd away peddlers. Extensive menu. On the negative side, expensive, food was very disappointing, probably most disappointing in Florence in over 3 days on this trip, and probably same in over a half dozen trips to the city over the last decade. Octopus salad was uneven, half tough/chewy, half well prepared. Mussels were miniscule, smallest I'd seen in Europe or US in quite some time, literally 1 cm in size for some. Veal was also tough/chewy. Seasoning was good, location very pleasant, so we took our "lumps" over this, sort of expecting each course to have been a fluke, that next course would be better. Dessert was almost "pushed" on us. OK, it's Italy, "Mangia, mangia!", right? But in retrospect, the server's behavior seemed self serving. The restaurant clearly stated on its menu a mandatory 16% "service" charge (not typical for most restaurants in Firenze), most usually leaving it up to the customer, or charging a 2 Euro cover charge per patron. We understood this, but went ahead, liking the location and menu. But, after we paid our bill, took our lumps over pleasant setting, seemingly reasonable service, with very mediocre food, the waiter was upset that we wanted to use AMEX because we couldn't include HIS tip. He insisted the service charge was for the restaurant, and did not cover his service. After being pleasant all meal, he was very much in our face about this, and very unpleasant. I pulled out two 5 Euro bills debating how much to leave (OK,it's Firenze, we love the city, trying to be good citizens...) In a moment the waiter comes buy grabs both bills and runs off. Best advice we can give to travelers is AVOID this restaurant. Better quality ingredients, better cooked food, almost every other place we went, and without being deceived about cost, or finishing the meal on a very unpleasant note. This was not typical of other restaurants we've visited or our overall experience in Florence. read more

I rarely if ever write reviews, but I have to warn others about this restaurant! We had a party of 4 that traveled throughout Italy, Rome, Venice, Naples, Positano, and Florence. We stopped by for a Sat. night dinner and I ordered steak, and the other couple ordered a steak for 2. I asked if the steak came with anything; pasta, vegetables, etc?? The waiter said he would throw in potatoes.. The other couple said they would take the potatoes as well.. My steak came out and it was 30 percent grizzle. The steak for 2 came out great.. What ruined the whole evening was the price!! Not only had they charged us for the 2 plates of potatoes ($4.50 each) but the steak for 2 was marked as $45.00, but they charged us $54.00! They put on an extra 10% service charge, and then asked (YES.. ASKED) for a tip because they said the waiters do not get the service charge!! Out of every restaurant we ate in Italy, (including superior ones to this one), this was by far the most expensive, (by 40%) the most deceitful, for average food..
