Buen provecho! Typical Oaxacan food! I always order a huitlacoche quesadilla with squash flower - just delicious. I also recommend... 1. The tlayudas 2. Black Mole Enchiladas 3. The cemitas The truth is that everything they cook here, we always eat well !!

This was the best surprise at the Mercado Hidalgo. I love Oaxaca and their cuisine! No question about it I had to eat at this restaurant. Looking at the menu I couldn't believe how many options there were. From Tlayudas, Mixiote, Chiles Rellenos, caldos and so many other goodies. I was also surprised to see on the menu Chile Relleno de Picadillo (stuffed chile with ground meat) because most places only do the cheese ones. I ordered the Chile Relleno de Picadillo and the Mixiote plate with a flavored water called Carambola (it's a fruit that is yellow with a starlike shape). EVERYTHING was delicious! My Chile Rellenos were smaller than the norm, but it was ok because the plate came with rice and black beans. The picadillo was flavorful and the chiles were bathed with a tomato sauce that brought all the flavors together. Now the Mixiote was my favorite of the two. The Mixiote is marinated lamb. Now when i say marinated the meat was seasoned with a lot of spices. So if you can't handle spices (like cinnamon, clove, bay leaves, etc) this might be heavily condimented for you. Very flavorful and tender! I highly recommend this place for those looking for a homey meal or looking to try Oaxacan food. I'm definitely going back to try their Tlayudas (huge, thin tortilla topped with meat, beans and cheese).

Really kind service and delicious food. The chips and salsa were so good. We shared the vegetarian Tlayuda and enjoyed the atmosphere.

They have everything I want in a Oaxacan restaurant. Tlayudas, Tlacoyos & chapulines. The chorizo and adobada covered tlayuda was awesome. Seriously delicious. Their mezcal is clean and just a little smokey. The chapulines in guacamole you got to try once. They really do taste good if you can get past the fact that you're eating crickets. Definitely coming back.

Amabilidad. Buen sabor y variedad. Cuentan con platillos típicos. Esta muy sabroso. También las aguas frescas de frutas naturales están buenísimas.

If you ever find yourself shopping for produce, piñatas, Mexican spices or other great finds at Mercado Hidalgo then you must pay a visit to La Oaxaqueña. You are in for a treat with traditional plates from Oaxaca and from Puebla. Their Tlayudas are as authentic as it gets (huge toastada like with fresh oaxaca cheese). They also have great mole and mole dishes. My favorite are the mole enchiladas. I have bought "quesillo" and even though it's a bit pricier than regular oaxaca cheese it is well worth it and much fresher. The coffee is brought from Oaxaca as well and it has a very bold smoky taste distinct of Oaxaca much like the bitter chocolate tablets (for hot chocolate and also sold here) Come to do your shopping and sit and relax while you enjoy traditional and delicious Oaxacan cuisine!!

Oaxaca is a huge "state", I believe it has 9 Provences, each region has it's own styles of delicious food, my mother is from Oaxaca and This place reminds me of her and my grandmother cooking. I love getting Tlayuda, what it is is a thin toasted tortilla covered with blended black beans, Oaxaca cheese, lettuce, tomato slices, avocado and yours chose of carne asada or chorizo. The queso fundido with chorizo and nopales is to die for too!

This was our very first stop after crossing the border into Mexico, and it absolutely lived up to…read morethe hype. It came highly recommended by both locals and fellow food lovers, and after seeing the incredible reviews, we knew we had to experience it for ourselves. We ordered a little bit of everything: tacos de tripa, tacos al pastor, tacos de asada, and an asada quesadilla. Every single item was packed with flavor and tasted incredibly fresh. The tripas were perfectly crispy without being greasy, the al pastor was juicy, well-seasoned, and had that classic balance of savory and slightly sweet flavors, and the asada was tender with a delicious char-grilled flavor. The asada quesadilla was generously filled with meat and gooey melted cheese, making it the perfect complement to the tacos. One thing I really appreciated was how convenient the ordering process is. They have a drive-through style setup where you simply pull up and park in front of the restaurant. An employee comes directly to your car to take your order, and once your food is ready, they bring it right out to you. It's such an easy and efficient experience, especially if you're eager to grab amazing food and get back on the road. It's easy to see why this place has earned such a stellar reputation. Between the authentic flavors, generous portions, friendly service, and convenient setup, this was the perfect way to kick off our trip into Mexico. I'll definitely be making this a tradition every time I cross the border.

The Zona Rio location has a small dining area, that is very popular with both the locals and visitors. It is easy to see why. Their menu does not over dose on the standard morning and afternoon items that you would find anyplace. However, this is the first restaurant I've been to in Tijuana, that does not have an English menu.... so I had to labor through the Spanish menu. But, they do have unique dishes, thus making the visit adventurous, because it is difficult to choose. I went back and forth, and finally settled for their 3-egg omelet with asparagus and sheep cheese. It came with refried beans, strings of carrots and beets, small fired up tostadas and fresh tortillas (both blue and yellow corn). A small side of soggy chilaquiles was also served. A small flavorful salsa tray is also provided with 3 options, ranging from mild to hot. The asparagus spears were thin, cut up into small pieces and sautéed with mild spices. The outer egg covering soft and not overdone. If anything, there was too much sheep cheese, in certain portions of the omelet. I say this because it was an asparagus omelet, and it, instead of the cheese, should have been the star. Still, it did not take away from the other commendable aspects of the complete entree and its accompaniments. Before the meal, a small refreshing fruit plate is served. Coffee and overall service here, was mucho excellente.
