I finally got to try this place! Happen to check Resy on the same day and was able to make reservations on a Wednesday night. The entrance is actually above the train station, the exit leads you into the station. I absolutely loved how intimate it is, the lighting, decor, sound vibes, everything was just the type of low key glamour I love. It's hard for me NOT to give this place 5 stars. The allure is obvious for any social New Yorker. A hidden bar in the subway? A 900 (NOW 2000) person waiting list? . I've been following the concept of a subway bar for a while. It's not a new concept -- See Tim Hunter and Barry Glick's dream of turning the 18th IRT platform onto a bar called, "Six" This was in 2002. I'm guessing you've never heard of it. Well, somehow Jey Perie and John Van Lieshout did the impossible. La Noxe is located in an active subway. It's an off shoot steps away from the main platform. I believe, it was carved out of a prior shop that the occasional subway station still have. Loads are sitting vacant, while others still have cobblers or sandwich shops. I think we can agree, a bar is much cooler. I booked a reservation in March and received an email in mid May. I've been told if you need a rezzo ASAP you can try calling or DMing but this place is the hottest new bar in NYC. Plan ahead. The entrance is hard to miss, the email is very clear. The gold sign is bright. We ran the doorbell and after a few minutes John lead us in. The staircase down reminded me of being backstage at the Met Opera. A little shabby but we ARE inside the subway. Once you pass the curtain, you're transported to a chic lounge . Very very vaporwave. Jey said he got a lot of the inspiration from Barcelona. You can tell. It's like chilling in your richwell traveled friend's basement. There is no lying, the place makes you feel cool. There were 2 other couples there that looked in love & excited. It was a nice vibe. John gave us the middle seat, which was not the best. The music (which was great!) was too loud. The chairs are comfy but too big, so you have to sit on the edge of your seat and lean over the stone slabbed table to hear your partner. He gladly let us move to another seat which again, was kind of awkward lmao. The seats are beautiful but not entirely comfortable. Again, we were sitting on the edge of our butts but at least we could hear each other. We ordered: Tangier's Sunset Secret Garden Forbidden Love Tuscan Leather French Connection Not super crazy in the ingredients department. (I do appreciate a bar that uses Carpano Antica) All of the cocktails were fine. Only one stood out - The French Connection. It's so hard to get a great espresso martini. This was the only one that made my eyes light up. A far second, Secret Garden. That kale/mezcal/lemon combo is quite nice. So not the mind blowing cocktails, but far from the worst. While we waited for our food order, the octopus & ceviche. We had more time to look around. The place was pretty empty. The place is tiny. Like dive bar status. But they have packed seats everywhere they could. There's even a two chairs a foot from the bathroom. The only decor complaint we had was the daft curtain that separates the kitchen and the bar. It's really hideous and takes you out of the cool feel. It's see through and there gaps in it so you can peek through to the brightly lit kitchen. Have you ever seen people using bed sheets as curtains? It feels exactly like that. Our octopus came and Jesus, it was incredibly good. Extremely fresh & light. The ceviche was interesting. The presentation is fun. It comes in small pull tab can. (Think Chicken of the Sea) Once again very good, but oddly came with corn nuts. We were chatting when John came over & noticed we were slow on eating. I said it was interesting, & he started a conversation to feel me out. I was surprised but pleased. I was eager to hear about the fathers of La Noxe. John listened and answered questions for a good 10 minutes. A quote that really stuck out to me, "Yeah, it's unique experience. It's cool. We're underground it could have just been that. But we wanted more." La Noxe, could have been just that but it is more. You can see that it's not just a cookie cutter bar. It could serving crap & it would still do extremely well. But there's love behind this, and it oozes out of the place and John. Let's get back to the ceviche. We were told the corn nuts were a Venezuelan thing. (Later upon research they're more Peruvian/Ecuadorian but whatever.) We accepted our ignorance & were prepared to eat around them when John compt'd it! It was incredibly unnecessary & kind. He also explained that the curtain was a fire safety thing, but y'all come on. This isn't Section 8 -- find yourself a better look. I'm mixed. I am an aesthetics whore. La Noxe is gorgeous, cozy & chic. But the cocktails are just 'aight. The food was fresh. And the service was phenomenal. I have no choice but to rate this place 5 stars because the passion. This place could just be a gimmick but you can tell but you can tell Jey & John give a shit. Which is rare in the NYC cocktail scene. It reminds me of what PDT felt like in its heyday. Before it became a shell of itself. Will La Noxe be the start of a new wave of modern speakeasies? I guess I'm the first to review this place! It's THE cutest new speakeasy, located inside of an NYC subway station. I'll get right into it...the drinks were delicious. We had the Uptown Local and Tuscan Leather, both were well mixed and thought out. We also snacked on the chicken avocado bites, and the shrimp with tostones which were absolutely delicious. The owner Jey is super hands on and friendly, he was chatting with all the guests and telling us all about the history of the venue. I absolutely CANNOT wait to come back!! read more

My boyfriend brought me to this lounge tonight and honestly I have no idea how he even found it. There was no sign outside the place and we had to ring to get in. They let us in despite not having a reservation but we had to stand at the bar. The spot was pretty intimate but cute. We ordered two drinks. They have a wide selection of cocktails, from their own specialty ones to the classics, as well as wines, tapas, desserts, and non-alcoholic beverages. The cocktails were around $18 each. (Tldr: Do not book a private event here) Extremely rude bartenders. We had a private event (the whole bar to ourselves) and the bartender treated us with no respect and with rude attitude. Just to name 1 example, I simply asked when my drink is ready since I've been waiting for a while and she responded with "we are not machines" in a sassy tone. Very unnecessary behavior and should not be working here. I would never recommend anyone hosting an event here. (Or even coming here.) Don't pay expensive prices for this treatment. We went here for drinks and it was a pretty relaxed atmosphere for a speakeasy. It wasn't too crowded or loud which was good. The drinks were average but nothing really creative or exciting. My friend who had been there before said the drink quality was better before so I guess it fluctuates based on the bartenders. We didn't try the food but it's really nice that they have some options. It's always a challenge to get a bite at speakeasy bars but it's really appreciated when the drinks are strong, the night is long, and you're going bar to bar. They usually don't allow pictures but we asked the waitress to take one for us and she did. The room has a cool red light tint which is great for pictures and mood setting. read more

Through a friend's recommendation and the excitement surrounding this place's social media page, I was excited to stop by and check it out. I went alone to feel out if this could be a good spot to host friends for my upcoming birthday. It was a Monday evening and according to Resy, there were availability throughout the rest of the evening so I didn't think it would be an issue stopping by without a reservation. I arrived and found that the off the avenue entrance was easy to find. I rang the doorbell as instructed and after a few minutes of no response, I double checked on google and the Resy page to confirm it was open, which it was. I rang a second AND third time and finally after about 7 minutes i was grudgingly greeted by a staff member. I explained to them that although i hadn't made a reservation, I was interested in checking out the place for my upcoming birthday and having a "quick cocktail". They quickly informed me it wouldn't be possible as they were "fully booked for the evening" I tried to negotiate the matter, letting them know it was just me and I was fine with sitting at the bar. My offer was declined, reiterating that everything was booked for the evening. Being the relentless New Yorker I am, I asked if I could do a quick walk thru to see if the space could accomodate my friends and I. This offer was finally accepted, but it came with am emphasises commitment to make it a "quick in and out". I thought to myself "Wow it must busy tonight" That thought was quickly corrected when I got downstairs to see several bar seats available along with some available seating around the perimeter. I did a quick pass through as promised and left through the exit letting out in the 1 station. Although I was offered the contact email for the events team, this was the extent of the staff providing a welcoming experience. Do not come to this place, it's a joke. The door guy who was wearing a t shirt of a world map is the absolute worse with a horrible attitude -- he should be fired. We had a party of 4 and he said it'll be about a 45 minute wait and will text us. 90 minutes later, we checked back in in case the number wasn't right and he said it'll be another 10-15 minutes. We come back 30 minutes later and see that he let 4 of his friends in and suggested we go home. It would've been one thing if he told us upfront that he didn't think we'd be able to get in but then tell us twice a fake time to waste our time. So so bad. Wanted to get my friends who were visiting from out of state to a decent speakeasy. So this is what happened. I wrote to them for a reservations but didnt hear back. Then i emailed again and then finally heard back saying it would be a 90-min reservation at 6.30p. I was like thats ok. I just wanted my friends to get a good experience. When we got there, it started off ok but just went completely downhill pretty soon. We entered at 6.15p. 15 mins before our time expecting to wait but they seated us immediately and didnt say anything. We ordered some cocktails with some food. They came out pretty quick. Finally after 2 rounds we wanted us some sunbstantial food and we ordered the sandwich. Our host took our order at 7.10p and came out in 5/7 mins and said he cannot give us tht as we have to vacate the table at 7.30. So the sandwich wont be ready by then. I asked him why 7.30 and he said he came in at 6 instead of 6.30p and this is a 90-min reservation. Whn we told him we came im at 6.15p, he had a audacity to tell us quite grudgingly and I quote " Ok, i will allow you 10 mins more". ALLOW YOU?!? what are we? in school? And if they were so worried about 90 mins tell us nicey when we came in that we'll have to leave at 7.45 or we have to wait for 15 mins to get seated. Its not like we weren't ordering. We had ordered more food and drinks than the other tables around (only 3 more tables to be exact). I walked upto the host and the bartender and told them exactly what I thought of the situation. Not sure if this was racist or just oberall bad service but I am miserable that i tools my friends frm Out of town for this and also my husband's and mine first speakeasy after the pandemic. I walked in with a friend as was told we could only stay for 30min at the bar. We didn't end up staying or ordering a drink because it didn't make sense to only sit for 30min. The bartender was kind and tried to see if he could get us more time, but the host was not very welcoming. I most likely won't be back. La Noxe has a unique point of entry that made it fun to find. Once inside, there is a living room vibe. The music on the night we visited was fantastic retro - 80s British. The drink list is short. We drank wine. The hype for this place far outweighs the experience. Drinks cost the same as going to a rooftop bar, where you typically pay a few dollars more for the view. The wall benches had straight backs against the wall; there were a few chairs in the center of the room that looked more comfortable (although another review classifies them as uncomfortable). Because of the small number of places, reservations seem a good idea. But, this is the kind of place that is better unplanned. Not surprising this place had a long wait list the second they opened. One of the best and most unique bars I've been to. The bar and space is everything you want it to be. The bar is truly is in the subway, and it embraces that (see the drink name below). At the same time, it's chic in a very classy way. The vibe is intimate, but lively. Perfect for date night. My girlfriend and I had a great time! I got the Uptown Local and she got a chablis. Shout-out to Jay, the owner. He had the perfect wine recommendation for what she was in the mood for. Fun, cozy works easy tucked under the 1 train 28th street station. The door to get in is located on the SE corner of 28/6th. Inside, it's a vibe. With white shiny counter tops, a cobalt blue couch, a few tables for two, faded blush walls and carpet, a 1960's vibe, and a Cosme chef to feed you, you can't wrong. The cocktails are mid-range NYC prices. We got their avocado chicken bites, which were quite good. If you come here starving, be prepared to empty your wallet, but I'd definitely recommend this place for pre/post dinner digestives with one or two people. This place was just... fine. The space was so much smaller and cheaper looking than it looked online. The drinks were fine. The service was fine too, though they gave us the check after just 40 minutes when we were supposed to have a 1 1/2 hour time slot. They were very sweet about it and said to ignore it and enjoy, but we hadn't even gotten some of our food yet? So we asked them to take it off so we could just leave, but then it came, and it was all so awkward. This feels like one of those places that exists to be trendy and doesn't meet the hype.
