Came here at 6:30 pm on a Saturday with some friends who had dinner res a block or so away. Perfect little spot for a summer evening drink. Don't expect anything fancy but this place feels very European for some reason. Love this place. Quaint, chill little neighborhood bar serving WINE COCKTAILS, which are one of my fave type of drinks. They are such tasty drinks. Fun fact - since they are located across the street from a church they can only serve beer and wine, and wine cocktails, which is perfectly fine by me. The server had the best kind of dry humor and twinkle in his eye while providing attentive service. Also the wine offerings were non descript but that was part of the charm. iWe were a little peckish and ordered some of the snacks on the menu. In full disclosure he mentioned the snacks were prepackaged and added to the menu during covid dining so they could legally operate. What can I say, you come for the drinks and stay for guacamole. Came here with friends on a Saturday to enjoy some wine and we were highly disappointed. There were no bottles listed on the menu so we asked our waiter and he served us a bottle that costs less than $10 at Trader Joe's which ended up costing us $65+ which also didn't taste great. Because of the NY covid laws, there must be a food purchase with alcohol so we were given a pre-packaged meat and cheese pack that smelled like it had gone bad and was completely inedible. Place has an interesting cocktail list as well as a few options for beer and wine. Decided on the Jungle Juice ($12) - a mix of gin wine, capaletti, and vermouth. Considering the drinks are markedly cheaper than most in the city though, it's a fair trade. It seats 8 people tops, so be ready for a cozy experience. The space is roughly the size of a bedroom but it didn't phase me thanks to the great service. Peter was our bartender, he only works Tuesday night but happened to pick up an extra shift. This bar is one that I stumbled upon after eating out while scouring Manhattan during my last few weeks there. Fun fact, this place does not serve hard alcohol because it is right next to a church, so they do the next best thing and have wine instead. The twist is, the wine is actually made and flavored to taste like actual spirits such as whiskey, tequila and vodka. The combination was simply absurdly pleasant, one that you do not find in many places. Ask the bartender for some samples if case you want to know how the base of the drink tastes like. To me, it opened a new world to "whiskey-wine". I tried the Old-Fashioned that they had there, it was really good. The bartender was amazing to talk to. I came in during a weekday and had the pleasure of interacting with the bartender one on one. He used to be from California as well. They force sell you snacks (cheese in plastic containers) for whatever reason and we haven't seen this in any other bars we've been to during and post COVID. We paid $37 for 2 drinks (the drinks had no hard liquor but the bar advertised itself as "speakeasy"), the drinks are ok and overpriced. If they had to serve food maybe find some decent food to serve, instead of some crappy snacks that can be bought in convenient stores We questioned the server re the snacks he force sold and he answered "I had to serve you this", knowing that we don't need the snacks in plastic box he quickly passed them to the next table and sold to them, and still billed us for it. We've been to other bars during/post COVID and seen nothing ridiculous like this - they all serve drinks only. It's not just the snacks we paid that's a problem but how rude the server was and that he didn't even care to explain. Very rude and unpleasant. Exposed brick, but it is painted white, then there is stainless steel counters, the floor is concrete, it is too well lit, so there's not warmth to it, yet there are candles. There are those wood thickets, but they're painted white, yet there is a like ivy on the outside, but it is left green. The hell is going on.
