The traditional vanilla concha was good, the bread was soft! The lavender concha was extra sweet. It tasted like a regular concha and then there was added hard icing on top. It was too sweet for my taste. Service was not really memorable, the guy was just taking our order and quick with us. My coffee was bland and there is an extra charge for alternative milk. I had the cafe de Carmen- I did not like my drink at all. My husband ordered the cafe Oaxaca and it was good!! I would recommend that drink. Over all, this is not a location I would return to.

I am super impressed with the level of customer service that I experienced. I have been looking for maritozzi everywhere. La Monarca has bolitas de pan and I figured that I could cheat and fill the bread with whipped cream. Yeimi went above and beyond to help me make this happen. Gracias Yeimi! My 3 shot latte was delicious and the churro cinnamon roll was a delight.

As soon as we walked in we were greeted & this really nice lady offered us samples of some new concha's Monarca has. She took our order she was very professional and polite which is always a plus for me! I did purchase a few of the new concha's to try them out and a matcha with strawberry foam. The bakery does have a sitting area inside and outside. It's very clean and cozy enough to have a nice coffee chat lol

It was late on a Thursday night and my family and I were craving Mexican sweet bread. We noticed that this bakery was open after an afternoon of shopping at the Citadel Outlets. The bakery is large, very clean and was fully stocked. The employees were very polite and friendly and immediately acknowledged us as we entered The choices were plentiful and the prices were reasonable. The bread was a tad on the hard side but very tasty. I will stop by again if and when I am in the area

Dozen Pan Dulce - $29.40 (price via Postmates July 2024)

I scheduled an order for a dozen Pan Dulce in celebration for my coworker's birthday yesterday, 7/3/2024 at 7:15AM. The order came right on time and the pastries were fresh in a catering box. Dozen Pan Dulce - $29.40 (price via Postmates July 2024) Includes: 4 mini conchas, 2 Danes, 2 cinnamon rolls, 2 taquitos, and 2 plain cuernitos - The pastries looked and tasted so delicious! - The taquitos, cinnamon roll, cuernitos had this ASMR crunch when you bit/cut into them. They lean on the sweeter side, but paired with coffee for a delicious pairing. - I also tried one the mini conchas, and it did lean a little more on the drier side but still so tasty. - Absolutely no complaints from my coworkers - they all got to enjoy and try them! - To my sweet surprise (not sure if it was a mistake or them being kind), they actually included an extra cinnamon roll, which is my favorite! I had to recount my box like 2x since it was early in the morning but I was definitely happy to see this sweet gesture! Thank you so much La Monarca! I'll definitely be back to try out more drinks and baked goods!

Iced Cafe Oaxaca

This location is incredible!!! The staff is INCREDIBLY kind! They gave us a few samples of treats, which were all so good. The flavored conchas were amazing. We also got Iced Cafe Oaxaca drinks and the Mollete Tradicional (beans and cheese on bread). Highly recommend all! Bathrooms were very clean and restaurant itself very clean as well. Also LOVE that they have signs for what all the cookies and cakes are! (The South Pasadena location doesn't, which I never understood why not.) Definitely recommend this location! Check it out! Prices are great too!

Right when you walk in you get greeted immediately, I don't come often to la monarca so when asking about all the cakes(they have a lot) the worker had no problem telling me which was which, which was very nice. The place is clean and the cakes were delicious. If you're looking for something not too sweet, try the Dulce de leche cake!

Very good I love that they have unique blend of different coffees and flavors. I would highly recommend coming back here. There's so much more I would like to try. I did not get the sweet breads or anything to eat but the coffee itself was excellent just being different from everyone else is what makes me more likely to come back. Location was clean and staff was friendly offering recommendations

So much care and intention woven into this place. On weekends you can feel the energy of people moving through from opening to closing. Today I needed a little more sweetness in my life, so I ordered the iced Mazapán oat milk latte with peanut butter foam -- magic -- alongside the Tamales de Mole, a weekend-only special. The sweet balanced the savory perfectly. Pansa llena, corazón contento. The flavor profile caters to a range of palates. My partner went for the Oaxacan Mocha oat milk latte -- also highly recommend the Cacao de Mi Corazón smoothie and the Spanish Latte. Know that every drink is made to order, crafted with intention. This isn't fast food. Give yourself the time to enjoy it. Open 7am-5pm daily, they're not stretching themselves thin for the masses, they're building a solid foundation. And it shows. The consistency keeps me coming back. For days when you can't escape the grind, DoorDash pre-order is a must. For days when you want an actual escape... tucked on a busy corner amid freeways, trains, and the hum of East LA, this place carves out a sanctuary. Lush greenery, a pace that slows you down, street parking in the neighborhood, and the satisfaction of supporting a local small business that opens its doors to the community. Oh, and they keep dog treats at the counter. I snagged one for my fur baby-- a small reminder of how beautifully they treat dogs in Oaxaca. Yia Caffé -- a treat, every single time.

Plus, they're dog-friendly, with treats and water readily available. I originally planned on ordering the Mazapán latte since I love anything nut-related, but upon arriving, the Horchata Latte ($6.50) was recommended to me. It had a lovely creamy texture, and the cinnamon stick inside provided a fantastic boost of flavor. While it's definitely on the sweet side, it was the perfect pick-me-up. The staff were friendly and kind, even though they stay tucked away inside. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu!

The café is located within an apartment complex and offers underground parking, which the coffee shop validates the first hour is only $3. Street parking is also available. You follow the café signs to an elevator, and once you arrive, you're welcomed into a moody, beautiful space. DOGS ARE ALLOWED which is awesome. There's plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. The outdoor area feels like a balcony terrace combo with a small but lovely view of the LA skyline. We sat here and our doggo enjoyed a nap in the sun. It's a great spot to work, study, or catch up with friends without feeling cramped or rushed. The staff was incredibly kind, welcoming, and friendly. They offer a nice variety of drinks, and we ordered an iced matcha latte and a hot Madagascar vanilla latte. For pastries, we chose a guava madeleine and a cookie butter madeleine. Everything is made fresh, and they actually whisk the matcha for each drink, which really shows in the quality. Our drinks came out quickly and were delicious. I loved my matcha, and my husband really enjoyed his latte. The pastries were also great, especially the cookie butter madeleine. This café is dog-friendly, which is a nice bonus. Overall, it was such a pleasant experience, and we'll definitely be back.

Integrated within the city itself, but designed and curated to still be apart from it, Archives of Us feels like a space perfect for studying, working, and just vibing if you have the time and you're a local while as a tourist or passerby it's a neat stop by as you continue on your itinerary. Design - Private but Open Located just on the boundary of Chinatown and inside the new shopping plaza under new apartments, Archives of Us has its own separate entrance utilizing an elevator to get you to the second floor. This simple detachment allows Archives of Us to have a private space in such a public location. The interior has exposed concrete, ventilation ducts, and wiring to give the industrial design that's currently popular whilst integrating soft tones of wood, stones, and simple plants in the same space. It makes the interior feel less brutalist by incorporating nature where it can. In juxtaposition, the exterior is a large balcony space with planters of leafy plants on the perimeter to provide semi-private screening as you look out into the city. Though you're close enough to people's apartments where you can snoop on what they have on their balconies it provides enough privacy where they can't look at the TikTok's you're watching. Drinks - Matcha & Espresso Archives of Us has a reputation for its matcha. Like so many places these days they proudly utilize ceremonial matcha for their drinks (although ceremonial grade doesn't mean it's good for lattes but that's a whole different story for a different time). They also do Einspänners, cream lattes, and more traditional drinks like flat whites. All these come in one size, ensuring a consistent taste for each drink. Although I did enjoy the banana tiramisu cream latte I had I don't know if paying an average of $7.50-$9.00 is worth the price. The quality of the ingredients can be tasted so it's up to you to decide if that price is worth paying. Food - High Quality for Simple Design Following the same rhetoric as the drinks, the food they serve here aren't complicated but they do have a high standard to their ingredients. The Wagyu Egg Sliders is executed well with toasted Hawaiian rolls, perfectly cooked Wagyu beef patties, and a hand chopped egg salad between them all. The egg salad part especially feels like the same type of flavor you would get if you got an egg sando in Japan. The ingredients taste great and as a simple recipe it is executed well. However, for the price of $17 you might be looking for more than "simple done perfectly". If you're looking for a kick or accent to their food you'll have to look for outside sources. I recommend asking them for condiments like their salsa they use for their breakfast burritos. Their breakfast burrito also falls under the same umbrella of well executed with simple ingredients. I especially loved how fluffy the eggs were and the ratio of potato to all the ingredients was fantastic. Final Thought Archives of Us can be seen as a hip location you have to try because of all the buzz and hype you've heard of or it can be seen as a place to make your own if you're a local of the area. It can be considered both overly hyped and a well loved secret. Whatever perspective you see it as what is unarguable is Archives of Us is quintessentially LA and you can love it or hate it for it. Try it for yourself to see where you stand.
