I placed an order online for a burrito tray and the cinnamon empanadas. I got an email confirming my order for the next day. Went to pick it up and they couldn't find my order at all. Gave them the order number and suddenly they said they just got it which meant it wasn't ready and my driver had to wait. On top of that they didn't have the empanadas. The burritos were teeny tiny and not very tasty at all. When I say tiny, I mean may 3-4 bites for the average person. I was more than disappointed and won't be returning. 1st time at this Mexican bakery. Tiramisu from La Monarca Bakery!!! Bc this fat girl needs cake lol I was gonna get tres leches but the girl who worked there told me her fave is the tiramisu. I feel like this is a Mexican version of what tiramisu is to them. I personally liked the cake but it should be called coffee instead of tiramisu bc my expectations weren't fulfilled as tiramisu. Every time I'm in the LA area I have to stop at La Monarca. Their cajeta filled croissants are to die for. They have great coffee as well.

The coffee is really good here but the pastries are just ok. They are mostly dry and there were flies in the cabinets when I went so I thought that was kinda gross. I would recommend the cafe de olla to everyone though because the flavor is very unique and delicious and don't think you can really get that anywhere else. This is like a 3.7 for me LOL Only because I haven't tried many of their savory items and I'm not a fan of their Pan dulce :( So on our way to Fruitland I noticed La monarca and I just knew I had to go in on the way back, glad I did! We walked in, grabbed a tray and tongs and I went bread happy LOL ok not that bad but my eyes were wide open. So I picked a few things and I went over to the left and got some cookies and a slice of strawberry shortcake, so I thought. Anywho service at that time was nice enough and has gotten better each visit (even made a new friend,) and I was on my way. Got home and started to taste as usual. The pan dulce are smaller than your usual Mexican delights. With them being smaller, they're also in my opinion a little dense and miss that moist factor, even after a quick trip in the microwave. The whole wheat croissant and circular pastry were not so good. I thought the circular one would be filled with something and there was nothing to be had inside :( So if you're a Pan dulce fan, just go to El gallo giro a few feet away :D The cakes are BOMB!!!!! The first two visits they kept giving me other things but the damn Strawberry shortcake I asked for!!!!! First time they gave me Strawberry cheesecake and I didn't even know til I got home and the second time they gave me a strawberry yogurt cup o_O like HUH! Finally on the damn 3rd and 4th visit they got it right LOL. I won't lie, that strawberry cheesecake was BOMB!!!!! So that first mistake was totally forgiven because it gave me a chance to try something different. The strawberry yogurt parfait was blah and that's my fault because Starlet had it fresh and I tried it 3 days later so it's not like I had it fresh. Not their fault. The strawberry shortcake was good , light and fluffy whipped cream. Not to heavy. I also bought my sister a Fruit tart cake slice and that was good as well. They sure know how to do cakes. I would order one for a birthday. The cookies are my families favorite. On the first visit my mom said they had an aftertaste but my sister loved them. After that my mother has fallen in love with the cookies . Maybe she ate something that first time, that messed up her taste buds :)) Every time I come I always stck up on various cookies. My last visit, I tried one savory thing and that was the cheddar and pepper quiche. Took that home and warmed it up and topped it with salsa. SOOOOOOOO good.Very clean. Not oily at all. Ordered a box of their mini conchas by the dozen for a work birthday. I asked them to include at least one birthday style concha in the bunch and they went above and beyond and also included a little mini "happy birthday" design on the outside. Pleasantly surprised! When the other day to purchase a simple cake. I went ahead and bought a Dulce de Leche that was in the freezer counter. They weren't not many cakes to choose from so I decided with that one. Purchase was $32. Took it home for the family. As I was taking the first bite, I found not pleasant. The cake had no freshness or taste. The Cake frosting had the taste of the inside of a refrigerator when it's inside for a while. The bread had no taste. This cake was pretty much stale. I have tried most of their items and they are just about average. The prices are more than fair for an LA bakery, most items are $1.95, though you pay half that at most for the same items at a mexican bakery. Service is very good, they hire a great staff. Fraud and false advertisement warning; They just give straight milk with cinnamon sprinkles on top every time ordered a horchata latte. All the horchata drinks say made with horchata but you can't taste anything except milk. Every time they make one you can clearly see all they add is milk, a shot of espresso if lucky, & cinnamon sprinkles. A very lazy & quick way to finesse Americans into thinking they're getting a horchata latte. They need to hire more experienced workers that know how to make real drinks. read more

Usually I never have bad experiences here but I went in today to buy a whole cake and 2 slices of horchata cake. The staff was nice per usual, nothing wrong there, it was the cake that was bad! The 2 horchata slices I got smelled like old milk and my boyfriend and I took one bite thinking maybe our noses smelled something wrong but they tasted like expired milk. I'm genuinely nervous to cut the whole cake tomorrow because it's for my moms birthday and I'm worried that the cake is bad too. They didn't give me a receipt and now my boyfriend feels sick. I through out one piece of cake but I'm going to save the other one to hopefully take it to them and get a refund or some credit. I know I can't return the cake but they should be checking ok the food to see if they're still ok to sell. read more

What can I say, I'm a huge carb fan and proud of it! La Monarca Bakery has not only been known for their Mexican breads, but also their cakes and variety of coffee. This location is clean, and pleasing to the eye. There's plenty of seating inside the bakery where you can sit, chit chat and enjoy your wonderful baked goods. I really enjoyed their whole wheat breads that's sweetened with agave. In fact, I've been pleased with all my purchases at this bakery, from conchas to plain croissants. The bakery also sells a variety of coffees. Their Americano is by far my favorite. Staff here are pleasant and willing to help here. This Monarca Bakery is in an enormous and ugly strip mall in East Los. Orale!!!! It is nice looking inside as all Monarca's are and service is pretty friendly. Plus they always play great Mexican/Latin rock and pop! They played one of my favorites - Belanova - while I was there!!!! This is the biggest Monarca I have been to. There's plenty of space. I ordered an Iced Cafe Oaxaca (they recommend it to be frapped) and some DELICIOUS Hojarasca cookies. These items did not disappoint. They also sell a great soy chorizo quiche! Yes, you heard right! However,I am not a big fan of their pan dulce. I love Monarca Bakery because they are conscious about helping the environment. They sell milkweed seeds for planting to help the Monarch butterfly population in our beautiful town. Why do I love Monarchs so much? Besides that they are pretty they are also inhabitants of the state of Michoacan in Mexico where my family is from. Parking is no issue as they share a huge and I mean H.U.G.E. parking lot with many other businesses. I ordered the chicken mole torta. It was very flavorful. The mole had a sweetness to it. The pan dulce is good, too. They are small, so you don't have to feel too guilty about trying a few. The concha has a slight sweetness, and a slightly crumbly texture. They also have cake samples upon request. The cheesecake was delicious, it was not dry at all and the perfect amount of sweetness. Again, the cheesecake was great! However, the spelling and handwritting was disappointing. The message was meant to be Happy Anniversary, we got Happy but the word Anniversary was completely wrong. The handwriting was not completely legible.
