    A table full of deliciousness

I finally got a chance to stop in and try this spot and wow!, now wish I had done so sooner. The food was absolutely amazing...I had dumplings in chili oil, clay pot fried rice, grilled ribs, szechwan string beans, orange chicken. And it was all top notch....I now have zero reason to travel to chinatown...This spot is better than any restaurant there and I've eaten at just about every spot in Chinatown and Asia on argyle. This is now my new fav spot for Asian food. I can't wait to go back and try more dishes here. Btw the iced passion fruit tea drink here is to die for.

    Smashed eggplant and preserved egg

We had gone to the original back in Bridgeport on Halsted but that was years ago and I believe this menu is very different. We were able to park in front of the "coming soon" market, but once that opens again consider asking the restaurant if it is ok to park behind the building where I believe the rest of the businesses in the area share parking. Quiet lunch time and it was just us but that's fine with us. Went ahead and picked the three star rec items off the menu that were interesting to us: egg with mushrooms from Anhui and the smashed eggplant with preserved egg. About the eggplant preserved egg dish - though our server gave it a mashing after bringing it to the table, it might have been difficult since things tend to overflow. So take a bit to start, then give it another mashing after there's room to spare. Has a bit of spice (it must have warned on the menu), but it is great. The egg dish - the mushroooms have a very subtle flavor. It's a $23 entree...but at least it is a good size serving. Interested in bringing more folks to share dishes so that we can try other "starred" dishes on the menu.

    La Mom Braised Pork Belly

I am from Shanghai. So I am very picky about the Shanghainese food being offered in this country. La Mom Kitchen met my expectations. We ordered braised pork belly, wonton soup , shrimp, crisp beef steak, lionhead meatball and and a bunch of sweet buns. They were all so good I felt like I was eating back in Shanghai. Highly recommend this place. Will be back soon!

Amazing Szechuan food. Very flavorful and great service. A little pricey at the individual dish level but well worth it. The Chili Pepper chicken was some of the best I have had. Lightly fried, intense spice level with great flavor. Dumplings in Chili oil were also great. Cute place inside. Not much has survived in this location so hoping they can.

Nice neighborhood place. Food was good, portions were huge, and the room was quiet enough so we could hear. I'll go back.

Overall I was very surprised with how delicious it taste. The server also showed me all the displayed sauces when I went to pick up the order. I appreciated his help and his recommendations. Finally my schedule, bank account, and the weather all lined up to try brunch at this West Loop spot. Like everywhere else at Fulton Market, be prepared for parking to be what parking is going to be here! There are some paid street spots, I also think there is a garage somewhere, and it is noted that Duck Duck Goat does not offer valet. The restaurant is in a super chic corner spot in Fulton Market, with a very picturesque little patio dining space out front. I had a reservation and arrived just a couple minutes early; we were greeted as soon as we walked in and taken to a table without any wait. I absolutely love the inside of this restaurant. Our table was a half booth/half chair two-top in the front window. There is so much rich color and decoration, and it really feels pretty intimate - I think this is a great date spot. The brunch menu has some amazing food options, and the service was very friendly but not overbearing. We started with an order of the crab rangoon to share between both of us, and then the pork fried rice omelette and the bacon and egg moo shu as brunch entrees. This is a dim sum restaurant and the plates are more of a style to be small bites and/or shared plates, and portion size definitely reflects such! Also because of this style, the dishes came out as they were ready, not all together "as entrees". The crab rangoons were incredible - the mascarpone filling is tart and bright to counter the briny crab and the pineapple sweet and sour is incredibly craveable. I will dream about this omelette for the rest of my life. The richness of the pork and the savoryness of the fried rice paired with fluffy egg, piled high with a texture bomb of accoutrements like crispy fried onions, (fresno?) chilis, and picked red onions. This is one of the best bites in the city. The moo shu had perfectly made sunny side up eggs with the richest egg yolks. All the veggies were cooked perfect, I loved the lotus root in the veggie mix. I love that our reservation wasn't rushed, and the service was really nice. We both said before even finishing our brunch that we wanted to come back and try dinner. Also a super cute touch, we were given complimentary little almond cookies after we were done. Thank you so much, Duck Duck Goat, for a wonderful brunch date! We will see you soon for dinner!

That alone already reduces stress. There is also plenty of seating, so we did not feel rushed or cramped. The decor is a bit dated, but nothing deal-breaking. Unfortunately, the xiao long bao did not hit the mark. The skin was too thick, and the dumplings themselves were much larger than they should be . The potstickers had the same issue, with thick wrappers overpowering the filling. The spicy wontons were also disappointing. They were mostly wrapper with very little filling, and the spicy sauce was not spicy or flavorful. It just felt like the wontons were coated in oil. On the brighter side, the oxtail casserole was my favorite dish. The flavor was there and the oxtail was nice and tender. Just a heads up, it is quite salty, so it definitely needs to be eaten with rice. The beef noodles were good for me, but my husband thought the broth was a little too sour, which he did not enjoy. Lastly, they have soy milk, which always pairs well with Chinese breakfast-style food and was a nice touch. Overall, some hits and some misses. I was really hoping for better dumplings, but there were a few dishes that showed promise.

My wife, her mom, and I were in Chicago to remember my father-in-law's death anniversary, and my sister-in-law chose Chef Ping's, for our party of nine for a Wednesday lunch. Parking is plentiful and the dining area can seat a lot. We got seated at a large round table in the back room, with a large lazy susan (just need to remember to spin it very slowly). We ordered a lot, and the food came out slowly. There was plenty of leftovers for the local folks to have for future meal or two. 3 Shrimp Toast (6 pieces each) - $26.85 - greasy but good, with the shrimp paste being a little sweet (in a good way) Noodle in Black Bean Sauce ($12.50) - this is jja jang myeon, which two of us had the previous night. It was OK, not near the top of the best I've had. Ping's Noodle Soup ($15.50) - the other classic Chinese-Korean dish, this is jjampong, a dish I've had many times. I was the only one to eat it, so ended up being my main dish. It was good, with thick noodles...just wish it had more seafood. Salt & Pepper Smelt ($16.90) - not sure if always available, but this was excellent...my favorite dish and one that I finished once I realized that everybody had their fill. It really depends on the quality of the smelt, which was excellent in this case. It was lightly battered, and carefully deep fried. Other dishes enjoyed by others: 2 Salt & Pepper Prawns - $35.90 - large head-on shell-on prawns fire wokked. Salt & Pepper Tofu ($11.50) - for the vegetarians Chicken Skewers (4) - $8.75 - tender and shareable Walnut Shrimp ($19.90) - mayo with shrimp Young Chow Fried Rice ($12.50) - fried rice is a necessity for our group Mongolian Beef ($17.50) - a classic 2 Sesame Ball (4) - $7 - a great way to finish a meal. 18% tip was automatically added, and service was OK throughout. Then the other server that brought our entrees spilled my husbands tea and again no offering to getting a fresh cup. We had to ask AGAIN for a fresh cup! While the portions were generous, the quality of all the food has gone way down. The special family recipe of thier shrimp dish Gan Pong is nothing but fried shrimp with dried chili peppers and no flavor. The Hunan spicy beef and chicken appeared to be all globs and sticky because of excessive and over use of corn starch used during the cooking process. This dish didn't have any unique flavor that one would expect. Previously we had experienced a difference in the food, taste and quality and that's what kept us returning. Sadly, after this experience I wouldn't recommend it to anyone or come back! I'd rather stick with Yu's Mandarin than drive to this place! Quality always wins over quantity in my books!
