Hopefully you get lucky . Do not go at lunch on weekends. Over toasted, overcooked, bland. A waste of money.

I went at 7pm on a Wednesday and got a bowl of corn chowder. The soup was cold. For over $7, I could get a whole tub of soup from grocery stores that tastes much better... read more

This place has been on a slow and steady decline since the pandemic. The food quality has gone down as the prices have gone up. Now they are also charging an 8% "commodity fee" on any order. Most places want to keep customers happy - la Madeline it seems wants to chase them away. You get less and poorer quality food then you used to get for higher prices and now a hefty fee on top of that as well. I won't be back ever again, I'll go somewhere that values their customers and doesn't try to fleece them. Also the "commodity fee" is not posted anywhere, which if this was in DC, would be against the law. read more

American Breakfast was so good! Staff nice and helpful. I havent had good croissants in a while and this hit the spot. Generous American breakfast. Pleasantly surprised that bacon was not deep fried. as well as the sausages. Cappucino was ok not strong enough for me. Spacious dining area with outdoor tables. Will return! read more

This is the worst La Madeleine ever! The man who takes orders (blue hair) wears dirty glows with holes! He doesn't change them when he's serving food or takes payments. Kitchen entrance is located next to the restroom. If I saw kitchen before our order I would never ever stayed there! Kitchen is dirty! Restroom is unbelievable! It's wet everywhere! Covered with puddles, smells horrible! The same man was giving us somebody's checks to leave a good review for a slice of cake! What a shame! read more

We've been going to La Madeleine many years and this is the first time I've ever felt need to leave a bad review. The management may have changed or something but the last 2 times we've been there the soup was lukewarm, spinach quiche lukewarm also, water glasses weren't out and they offered plastic cup. Just in general not the same. read more

I've been coming to this restaurant for years and I can't understand the bad reviews. I love coming here. The food is delicious and there's a big variety. Today the young lady who greeted me was kind, as well as was the man who made my salad. As others have said, the first time I came here I didn't know what to expect either. But I stood back and watched others to learn that it was cafeteria style, not waitress service. I find that how we treat others often dictates how they respond to us. I never come here expecting people to cater to me. I've always gotten smiles back when I enter with a smile. This La Madeleine is also a great place to come if you're eating alone because there's plenty of seating in different little rooms, and the ambiance is very cozy. read more

La Madeleine is A-Ok. I hadn't been to this location in years and had wanted to visit again...but so many restaurants so little time. The thing that finally got us here was the coupon we got in the mail for $3 off our meals, which was a great incentive to go. We were here on a Sunday night around 5 p.m. The place wasn't busy so we were able to order our meals without having a wait. I had forgotten how the ordering system worked and the young woman at the counter explained it to us. She was friendly and patient. I wish that they had their menu on the wall as it would have made things easier. Instead, you are handed a menu which puts some pressure on you to decide quickly. Good thing I looked online so I knew what I wanted. My husband had taken a look but he forgot the name of the sandwich he wanted. Once he figured it out, we placed our order and gave her our coupon. We were then given a number to put on our table. It was rather creative---a wooden spoon on a stand. I ordered the French dip sandwich while my husband got a cup of French lentil soup plus a chicken croissant salade sandwich. We shared a bottle of Perrier water to drink. With the coupon, all this cost $20 + change. I liked the roll that the French dip sandwich was on as it had a nice crust on it. It was just right as it gave enough crunch without being very hard. The meat was good quality. I also liked that they used a mild provolone cheese on it. What I didn't like was that the au jus for dipping was very bland with little flavor. My husband really liked the French lentil soup saying that it had a generous amount stock in it plus the broth had good flavor. He didn't really care for his sandwich. He said that they put too much mayo on it. In addition to the chicken salad, the sandwich had a tomato slice and some lettuce. Plus he ended up adding some salt and pepper to it. We don't regret going but at the same time we're not in any rush to return. read more

Came her for lunch for the first time. Had half a French dip and a fresh cranberry and pecan salad The food was great, the atmosphere quaint and was a great lunch. The only negative was the male cashier was abrupt and rude. Work on his public service attitude and you would have had 5 stars. read more

They have a much better system for online ordering now and it's been a better experience. Thanks for making improvements to the operations.

Totally worthless lunch.... over 20 minutes to get a kids grilled cheese and than it came out cold plus resulting our soup is now cold.... strawberries romanoff one of our favs had unripe strawberries. Wifi is almost useless at one bar in the dining room. Not even worth trying to talk to anyone.... Not a happy camper.... thought this place going downhill and well this visit confirmed it. If in the area yes a okay place if you don't need to order anything not already out. read more

I mean who doesn't like la Madeleine! The coffee is decent, interior is beautiful, the menu always has new and seasonal items, and boi that unlimited jam/bread station is simple, fresh, and delicious! The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. I can't remember the exact name, but I got their cranberry turkey sandwich. It was super delicious and made to order. read more

Wonderful employees. They made the experience wonderful and worked hard. Kid friendly and good food. Everyone enjoyed it.

While the food was amazing, my mother and I had never encountered such horrible service. The cashier was incredibly demeaning to my mother, who, although she has an accent, speaks nearly perfect english. His tone and the faces he would make at her while she was ordering are unacceptable, and they make me wonder if he had ever encountered an immigrant before. The 2 stars are solely due to the food, because I would rate the service 0/5. read more

Was here the other day, but did not buy anything the first time around. Today is 3/4/19 and I went back to try the ham and cheese pastry. The pastry had flavor, but lacked a softness to it. The pastry had been sitting on the heated grill for to long. The atmosphere was not so pleasant as I have experienced at other La Madeline's Restaurants. The words French Attitude comes to mind, but that might not have anything to do with this experience. Maybe the staff just didn't like working there. There were almost no smiles I saw from the staff members. The cashier was the only person I saw smile. I was tempted to buy one or two bottles of Orangina.(Something I was exposed to during my trips to France and Switzerland.) If I do return here, it will be for the drinks. We will see. read more

This is like a cute French bistro, except the staff/service leaves a little to be desired. Good for breakfast, lunch, or a light dinner. And of course dessert. Most often when I come here, I'm getting my meal to-go before heading to a show at Wolf Trap. It's also nice for a lunch that isn't fast food. It's cute/quaint and the food is typically pretty good. Croque monsieur, crepes, quiche, sandwiches, soups, salads, a few dinner entree options, some seasonal specials. I like their tomato basil soup (or the tomato basil pasta) and their French onion soup. I often get the French dip sandwich with au jus with a side of soup or a Caesar salad. Their mango iced tea is delicious too! Desserts are fruit tarts, lemon tarts, some cakes, pastries, chocolate mousse, and other tasty treats. They even make mini versions of the more popular desserts if you're just looking for a taste and not a full indulgence. They have an app where you can earn rewards, a treat on your birthday, and you can optionally pay with a Level Up account. You can also use it to order ahead to avoid the lunch rush and lines. Parking can be a bit tricky, especially during peak times. It's a busy shopping center, especially during the day. But unlike Reston Town Center proper (which is across the street), parking is at least free no matter when you're here. read more

Extremely rude service, from the cashier, to the cleanup staff, everyone was too busy to provide basic customer service, in an empty restaurant... hard pass next time. In this area, people are generally very kind and to see this level of rudeness was just so jarring, especially when the expectation was to have a quick getaway to have brunch with a friend. I've never been to France, but I hope its nothing like this. read more

I am a fan of their Parisien Eggs Benedict -- it is eggs benedict but on a croissant opposed to an English muffin, and it has both ham and bacon. The hollandaise sauce is good and accents the eggs, meat, & croissant well. I like the environment and that it is a good place to have meet a friend or business partner for a nice meal and a long conversation. I appreciate that I had no problem ordering the Parisien Eggs Benedict in the afternoon. No one gave me the 'how dare you' look or tried to make me feel strange for asking for it after 1pm. Instead, the gentleman behind the counter simply said it would take a minute and asked if that was OK. Good service makes a difference to me and remember it. This is definitely on my list of good places to meet in Reston. read more

I've gotten food to go from here a couple of times over the last week. Strange that it's right across the street from my office and the only thing I've ever gotten here previous to this week over the last two years is coffee! Had the Quiche Lorraine one morning, and then another morning the Breakfast Croissant: Scrambled eggs, bacon, cheddar cheese, and a slice of tomato on a fresh-baked croissant and a Potato Galette - which is a baked crispy potato cake with green onions and herbs. The french version of a McDonald's hash brown. Except way tastier and more interesting. I enjoyed all of my breakfast foods here. You have to self-serve yourself to the menu, and then request audience with the counter girl/boy to place your order. This restaurant is truly one of the best French restaurants I have ever been. We almost didn't come because we worried that it was only 3 stars. I am so glad we did decide to come. This restaurant has many options. Each one of us ordered something different with the purpose to try different things. I am so glad we did! Ordered a Chicken Ceaser Salad and a Chicken Spinach Salad for take out. It was inedible. The chicken on both salads was very dry and hard. The croutons were very stale. I ended up eating the lettuce with dressing. It was put together by the manager. He opened the packets of chicken so I'm sure he saw the condition of the chicken. Unfortunately, it all went in the trash. read more

Depending on what you get, it's a lovely little spot, but some of the dishes are sort of hit and miss, especially as takeout. Any of the pastries are excellent- I will always be a sucker for the lemon tart- and the omelette was delicious, but the quiche I got was soggy and the crust was pretty raw. Salads are reliable however, and the coffee is the same as it ever was. Sweet staff doing their best in trying times. read more

Service (3.5/5): I'm giving this a 3.5 out of 5 just because the service was pleasant. We were greeted when we came in and the cashier was patient while we were ordering our food. This wasn't my first time, but I remember years ago they used to give out complimentary bread with butter and jam, but I had to go ask for it. Food (4/5): I ordered the Turkey Bistro with a side of chips. It was really tasty and there was a good amount of turkey. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 is because I feel like they were a little stingy on the sauce they put on the sandwich so it was slightly dry. My wife had the Chicken Parisien and the cesar salad which was also tasty. She especially loved the cesar salad read more

I am a longtime fan of La Madeleine. I was so happy to find one in my neighborhood last week. I had lunch and had a poor experience. I went back today assuming it was a fluke. I walked in and saw a huge amount of tables that had not been cleared. I waited a very long time to place my order even thought no one was in front of me in line. I asked for extra sauce with my chicken friend and was told, "No, not possible." Then I waited in line to pay behind one person for a VERY long time. Then I went to get a soda and there was no ice. Then I went to get a napkin and silverware. There were no napkins. I told the gentleman there was no ice. He pounded on the machine many times until a few cubes popped out. Then I told him there are no napkins. He threw a package of napkins on top of the napkin container without unwrapping it. Then I went to sit down to eat. My silverware was VERY sticky. I had to go to the bathroom to wash the silverware and my hands. My food is cold now. REALLY? You people need to get your act together!!! Not planning to return EVER! read more

I don't understand why so many bad reviews! I just moved in here from California and I think this place is spectacular! Simple & plenty is how I would summarize my culinary experience at La Madeleine. They offer French cuisine in large portions delivered with a smile. The food satisfies the hungry & does not necessarily offer a culinary masterpiece. Yet, provides a universal taste simply appeals to most palates. The prices are fair. Portions are generous. Service was speedy. All in all La Madeleine is a no frills restaurant. read more
