This place has been on a slow and steady decline since the pandemic. The food quality has gone down as the prices have gone up. Now they are also charging an 8% "commodity fee" on any order. Most places want to keep customers happy - la Madeline it seems wants to chase them away. You get less and poorer quality food then you used to get for higher prices and now a hefty fee on top of that as well. I won't be back ever again, I'll go somewhere that values their customers and doesn't try to fleece them. This is the worst La Madeleine ever! The man who takes orders (blue hair) wears dirty glows with holes! He doesn't change them when he's serving food or takes payments. I've been coming to this restaurant for years and I can't understand the bad reviews. I love coming here. The food is delicious and there's a big variety. Today the young lady who greeted me was kind, as well as was the man who made my salad. As others have said, the first time I came here I didn't know what to expect either. But I stood back and watched others to learn that it was cafeteria style, not waitress service. I find that how we treat others often dictates how they respond to us. I never come here expecting people to cater to me. I've always gotten smiles back when I enter with a smile. This La Madeleine is also a great place to come if you're eating alone because there's plenty of seating in different little rooms, and the ambiance is very cozy. read more

American Breakfast was so good! Staff nice and helpful. I havent had good croissants in a while and this hit the spot. Generous American breakfast. La Madeleine is A-Ok. I hadn't been to this location in years and had wanted to visit again...but so many restaurants so little time. The thing that finally got us here was the coupon we got in the mail for $3 off our meals, which was a great incentive to go. We were here on a Sunday night around 5 p.m. The place wasn't busy so we were able to order our meals without having a wait. I had forgotten how the ordering system worked and the young woman at the counter explained it to us. She was friendly and patient. I wish that they had their menu on the wall as it would have made things easier. Instead, you are handed a menu which puts some pressure on you to decide quickly. Good thing I looked online so I knew what I wanted. My husband had taken a look but he forgot the name of the sandwich he wanted. Once he figured it out, we placed our order and gave her our coupon. We were then given a number to put on our table. It was rather creative---a wooden spoon on a stand. I ordered the French dip sandwich while my husband got a cup of French lentil soup plus a chicken croissant salade sandwich. We shared a bottle of Perrier water to drink. With the coupon, all this cost $20 + change. I liked the roll that the French dip sandwich was on as it had a nice crust on it. It was just right as it gave enough crunch without being very hard. The meat was good quality. I also liked that they used a mild provolone cheese on it. What I didn't like was that the au jus for dipping was very bland with little flavor. My husband really liked the French lentil soup saying that it had a generous amount stock in it plus the broth had good flavor. He didn't really care for his sandwich. He said that they put too much mayo on it. In addition to the chicken salad, the sandwich had a tomato slice and some lettuce. Plus he ended up adding some salt and pepper to it. Totally worthless lunch.... over 20 minutes to get a kids grilled cheese and than it came out cold plus resulting our soup is now cold.... strawberries romanoff one of our favs had unripe strawberries. Was here the other day, but did not buy anything the first time around. Today is 3/4/19 and I went back to try the ham and cheese pastry. The pastry had flavor, but lacked a softness to it. The pastry had been sitting on the heated grill for to long. The atmosphere was not so pleasant as I have experienced at other La Madeline's Restaurants. The words French Attitude comes to mind, but that might not have anything to do with this experience. Maybe the staff just didn't like working there. There were almost no smiles I saw from the staff members. The cashier was the only person I saw smile. I was tempted to buy one or two bottles of Orangina.(Something I was exposed to during my trips to France and Switzerland.) If I do return here, it will be for the drinks. We will see. read more

Most often when I come here, I'm getting my meal to-go before heading to a show at Wolf Trap. It's also nice for a lunch that isn't fast food. It's cute/quaint and the food is typically pretty good. Croque monsieur, crepes, quiche, sandwiches, soups, salads, a few dinner entree options, some seasonal specials. I like their tomato basil soup (or the tomato basil pasta) and their French onion soup. I often get the French dip sandwich with au jus with a side of soup or a Caesar salad. Their mango iced tea is delicious too! Desserts are fruit tarts, lemon tarts, some cakes, pastries, chocolate mousse, and other tasty treats. They even make mini versions of the more popular desserts if you're just looking for a taste and not a full indulgence. They have an app where you can earn rewards, a treat on your birthday, and you can optionally pay with a Level Up account. You can also use it to order ahead to avoid the lunch rush and lines. Parking can be a bit tricky, especially during peak times. It's a busy shopping center, especially during the day. I was at the Reston La Madeleine yesterday and was soo disappointed. I have loved and frequented the chain since they first came to washington in the 90s. I used to go to the Bethesda location and the one in the mall until it closed. I had the petite Caesar and the cream of mushroom soup. The Caesar dressing was off. I used to buy bottles of it back in the day. The mushroom soup was "watered" down with milk . You could actually see the added milk in the cup and the flavor was not there because of this. This wasn't my first time, but I remember years ago they used to give out complimentary bread with butter and jam, but I had to go ask for it. Food (4/5): I ordered the Turkey Bistro with a side of chips. It was really tasty and there was a good amount of turkey. I am a fan of their Parisien Eggs Benedict -- it is eggs benedict but on a croissant opposed to an English muffin, and it has both ham and bacon. The hollandaise sauce is good and accents the eggs, meat, & croissant well. I like the environment and that it is a good place to have meet a friend or business partner for a nice meal and a long conversation. I appreciate that I had no problem ordering the Parisien Eggs Benedict in the afternoon. No one gave me the 'how dare you' look or tried to make me feel strange for asking for it after 1pm. Instead, the gentleman behind the counter simply said it would take a minute and asked if that was OK. Good service makes a difference to me and remember it. I've gotten food to go from here a couple of times over the last week. Strange that it's right across the street from my office and the only thing I've ever gotten here previous to this week over the last two years is coffee! Had the Quiche Lorraine one morning, and then another morning the Breakfast Croissant: Scrambled eggs, bacon, cheddar cheese, and a slice of tomato on a fresh-baked croissant and a Potato Galette - which is a baked crispy potato cake with green onions and herbs. I am a longtime fan of La Madeleine. I was so happy to find one in my neighborhood last week. I had lunch and had a poor experience. I went back today assuming it was a fluke. I walked in and saw a huge amount of tables that had not been cleared. I waited a very long time to place my order even thought no one was in front of me in line. I asked for extra sauce with my chicken friend and was told, "No, not possible." Then I waited in line to pay behind one person for a VERY long time. Then I went to get a soda and there was no ice. Then I went to get a napkin and silverware. There were no napkins. I told the gentleman there was no ice. He pounded on the machine many times until a few cubes popped out. Then I told him there are no napkins. He threw a package of napkins on top of the napkin container without unwrapping it. Then I went to sit down to eat. My silverware was VERY sticky.
