I guess I shouldn't be surprised since it is just a chain restaurant, but we were very disappointed with the quality of the food and the quality of the service. We ordered a Turkey & Brie sandwich. It was supposed to have caramelized apples and onions with Brie and a house made goat spread, but in actuality it was just a turkey sandwich on a roll. When we asked they tried to tell us the mayo was the Brie and goat cheese. It took us three times until they finally gave us what we ordered - and it is right from their own menu. Ridiculous. I came here this past Sunday (1-17-16) and dined in for lunch. I ordered an excellent croque monseiur, tomato soup, and pasta salad. When I went to get sweet tea, napkins, and silverware I noticed that the "clean" forks still had food in them!!! There were several forks that had little chunks of food still stuck in them. I immediately let an employee know about the incident and it was taken care of right then and there. A gal took all of the silverware and replaced them with new ones. My husband wanted to go out for coffee and pastries for his birthday, so we came to this restaurant. On the plus side, the food was good - we had ham and cheese danish, eclairs, creme brulee cheesecake (my favorite), and lemon cake. Also, the restaurant was very nice, and the bathrooms clean. On the (big) minus side, the service was pretty bad. All of the staff we interacted with looked and acted like they would rather be ANYWHERE else, and we soon realized that it was because we were there around about shift change time (~3pm), as we saw the staff making for the door. The lady working on the pastries counter was short, almost to the point of rude, when my husband was asking about the pastries (he's German, and speaks English fluently, but she seemed to have problems understanding him). We were told, after we had received and paid for the pastries, we had to order coffee at the main cashier, who took our order, told us she would bring it over, then left the store 30 seconds later... almost 15 minutes later, no coffee (and no other customers at the counter), so my husband went to ask about it - they had put the cups under the coffee machine, then not switched it on... we got the coffee eventually (and it was good coffee), but it was a hassle. Would we come back again? Maybe, but definitely not at shift change time... I get it, I've worked in the service industry, and I know that quitting time can't come soon enough, but it really put a damper on my husband's special day. read more

Upon my visit there was only one person in front of me with the restaurant 1/4 full. Somehow they still managed to give us extremely slow service and lose our order. I've been a customer here for years but the last year has been increasingly bad. So much so that I've unsubscribed from their emails and no longer consider it a place to go. I ate the Country French Breakfast - scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, tomato slices, potato gallette, and a croissant. The croissant wasn't even warm. It was tasty, but it was cool on the plate. The eggs were okay, nothing bad, nothing good. The bacon, which I requested to be 'very crispy' was 'very limp'. The potato gallette was as grossly overcooked as it could get without being burned black. It looked dry and inedible. I refused the gallette and asked for one that wasn't overcooked. The replacement gallette arrived just as I was leaving 20 minutes later. The replacement was good. It concerns me that management thought it was acceptable to send out such obviously overcooked food. It's been something of a tradition to have my birthday breakfast here, complete with the complimentary dessert (which you get via your email subscription). Last year, the food was dissappointing. I ate there another time last year, hoping for a change of employees, and it was almost an exact repeat of my bad birthday breakfast. Still hoping for the awesomeness that used to be La Madeleine, I went this morning, weeks before my birthday to see if I could resume dining there or determine I needed to find another place at which to have my birthday breakfast. I'm really glad I did this because I didn't like it at all on an ordinary day and I wouldn't want to have this experience on my birthday. First let me start by saying Love the tomato basil soup but the reason for my 5 star tonight was I literally watched as the manager was given a tip and she immediately divided it amongst the other employees not keeping it for herself even though she help the man. But what was more shocking was that the other young lady who was helping me had left out my soup and the manager ran out to the parking lot and flagged me down in my car just to give me my soup. Just walked out of the Duluth GA location after standing at the counter for 10 mins without one member of the staff even acknowledging my wife and I's presence. I have loved La Madeleine for many years. I love the salads that they make for you. I also love the atmosphere at all of the restaurants especially during the winter with the large fireplace. I would have given this La Madeline 4 stars but the location and surroundings are not good. It's an area around a mall (Gwinnett Place Mall) that has drastically gone down over the past ten or so years and not a good or safe area any more. Tonight I went to buy some lemon tarts at 8.53pm, Thursday, May 3rd 2018, and I had a sad experience because the manager was such a rude with me because she was ready to close the place and she told me that, she rushed me and treated me like a stupid.She talked to me in a disrespectful way and the worse part is that an older women (costumer) was there listening everything. Finally a great brunch/lunch place. My family and I really enjoyed the food. All good and reasonable cost for what you get. We got there about 10AM on a Sunday and beat the crowd, luckily. We had eggs, chocolate croissant, bran muffin and a couple specialty coffees. And you can substitute egg whites for regular eggs at no extra cost- That's a first for me here in GA. The only thing I didn't like, which is a very minor item, is the way the ordering is set up...a weird cafeteria line set up, with a pastry stand, and a separate coffee stand all jumbled as you enter. As a first time visit it just seems convoluted for no reason. And when they got busy if you wanted something more on the way out, after dinning in, such as a yummy looking pastry or bread to go you have to endure the line a second time. We normally love this place but today was the exception. They were busy but that is no excuse for poor customer service. We ordered then realized that we wanted the syrup on the side. The cashier said that we should have told them at the time of ordering. Never offering to handle the request just stated that they pour the syrup over the plate unless requested. When the plate came with the syrup we sent it back. When the correct plate was delivered we asked to complain and the server never acknowledged our request, he just simply turned and walked away. This was offensive to my wife as she has made the comment and it was ignored. We finally saw the manager and told him the sorry. He simply apologized and walked away. Meals here a little expensive ($22.00 for two means and two coffees) and we expect and have received in the past good service. Seems customer service is going down as well as the meal quality - eggs were over done, the cinnamon French toast appeared big but was smashed flat to spread it out. The 1 star is for the conversation I had with one of the employees there. I'm not going to mention her name, but just wanted to say how rude and mean she sounded when I was ordering. As I was pointing out my choices of mini cakes, she told me to speak English and read the names of the cake. I was so surprise with that rudeness. I Came to this place before, never have to experience such rudeness. This employee is Chinese, or oriental. I guess she felt more qualified to instruct a provider to speak English. I was speechless. She didn't even greet me or "How can I help you? Thank you or bye". Whooooooooo? What happened to great customer service? Nobody has to be exposed to this kind of rudeness regardeless. Best French Cuisine in town hands down! You feel like you're in a very welcomed environment the minute you walk in; everyone is there to simply enjoy good food and great company. We stopped by for breakfast and got the Country French Breakfast and it was so delicious, especially the flavorful potato galette. Yum!
