Had the grilled fish burrito, and added shrimp to it, AMAZING! Perfectly seasoned and super tasty. It is a good size, enough to share perhaps, but I ate it all. I have previously tried the fish tacos, also very good, and the agua Chiles, super tasty as well. They season all of their food very well, I never feel like I need to add salt to anything. The fresh agua frescas are also great, not too sweet, just right and refreshing. I had the cucumber mint today. The service is great, owner always very attentive. He mentioned today that he is close to opening a Taco stand right next door in the next few months, just two spots over from his current location. If it's half as good as La Isla, it's going to be a hit. Look forward to coming back again and hopefully seeing their new venture come to fruition. read more

This joint is absolutely amazing. I got the beer battered shrimp burrito, and I could not believe how much shrimp was in there. Every bite was filled with shrimp, to the point that my family was annoyed by how much I kept showing them the burrito and saying, "look at all this shrimp!" If you have had the ceviche here and didn't give this place a 5, go back and try the avocado shooter with 1/2 fish, 1/2 shrimp...3 avocado halves on the bottom perfectly ripe along with their fresh halibut and shrimp, perfectly spiced with onion cilantro and lime....along with about 2 pounds of fresh tortilla chips. Man, was pretty disappointed after trying this place out. There were so many great reviews, I was excited to try out the food! I got grilled fish tacos and a shrimp taco, my wife got ceviche. We shared chips with guacamole and salsa. I was to start with the only high point of our experience - the ceviche was pretty tasty. As for the taste of everything else.... not impressed. As much I hate to admit this - the fish (and the shrimp taco) were inedible. The seasoning of the grilled shrimp and fish was lacking, severely lacking. The tacos were covered in mounds of lettuce, slathered in sour cream, and included grilled fajita-mix veggies.... bell pepper on a fish taco...? The aroma coming off of these tacos was harsh - not fishy like I'd anticipate a seafood taco to be, but strong and similar to canned pet food.. It was honestly the only fish taco I've never been able to finish - and trust me, I was HUNGRY - this was truly upsetting. Since I was unable to eat the 3 fish tacos I had bought for myself and the 1 shrimp taco, I decided to just snack on the chips, salsa, and guac... which also were not satisying. The chips were overly salty - placed on a tray without a plate underneath them (I was very turned off by this - imagine, the trays that get sat next to the trash cans in fast food joints - my chips were laying on that same type of carrying tray.) The salsa - by far the most disappointing salsa I've ever had - complete waste of money (as was the rest of the food, aside from the ceviche) The Guac - flavorless, no lime? No garlic? I hate being so crass, as the young gentleman who helped us (and potentially plating the food?) seemed like a sweet guy - but wow, I can honestly say I've never thrown away so much food in one sitting before. I felt pretty crummy about it, to be truthful. 2/5 stars - Pros: Interesting location, nice people working there, good ceviche. Tips: It's located in Vail HQ, just behind the Wolf Store Adobe coffee and ice cream shop. Park in the Kohl's/Famous Footwear parking lots and walk straight back past the wooden tower. It is AUTHENTIC, built easy on the environment, much of the materials used to build the tables and counters are reclaimed, except for the kitchens themselves which look SPOTLESS and each vendor is equipped with new technology POS systems. Vail HQ was a major restoration effort of the old Wolf Store which was also one of the first post offices in the area. There IS outdoor seating and plenty of places to walk and explore this historic location. They serve the ceviches in very sturdy reusable plastic containers,too! My family and I got a little something from each eatery inside the Chophouse, so naturally we went for the Ceviche here! I got the shrimp Ceviche which was served with a side of chips and an agua Fresca. The agua Fresca was so refreshing and perfect for the hot day. The ceviche was a good portion but it tasted like it was made the day before and lacked flavor. I had to add lemon, salt and tapatio which they have available. I went to the cookhouse which houses a few restaurants. This concept has been gaining traction in other cities like the packing house in Anaheim. This restaurant is in the cookhouse. The concept seems really good and I just got back from Ensenada so I was eager to try. I got to the front of the line and the menu listed tacos. So I asked the women how many tacos come in the order. She looked at me surprised and said one but it's pretty big. Let me warn you: $8 for a single Baja style taco is just crazy. The taco was ok at best and about the size of a regular Baja style taco. At $15 a pop, we ordered 2 to go Tortilla chips included with each order. I thought it was agreeable, easy to eat, and what initially looked like a small container, it actually was plenty. Supposedly the white fish was Halibut, and the shrimp medium size. Tortilla bags each sealed, nice and crispy. Only two were running the small place, and order taker was congenial and pleasant, but it was only moi at around 1:30 PM ordering. Female companion who at first resented a little bit the size of the container changed her attitude promptly, once she started enjoying it. Very difficult to please as a norm, she endorsed the mixed ceviche wholeheartedly. 4.5 Stars. I liked it, as I remembered the one I purchase at Costco on occasions that is a little more spicy and way cheaper, but found it lacking something in terms of full potential. 3.5 Stars. While I didn't go to this location, they had a location at the Hillcrest farmer's market in SD and they had an amazing and super fresh burrito. I got the combo with fried shrimp and fried sea bass.
