The restaurant is located in a business park area, so you need to keep your eyes open when driving to this location/FYI its a door down from Sieglers. Just to give a bit of history on my Mexican food background, I lived in San Diego for a year, probably ate Mexican everyday-it is so incredible here-no TexMex. I would go to Mexico some evenings for dinner, as the boarder was 15 miles from my house. I have eaten in many of the MY Mexi joints, so I think I have a grasp on the difference between good and bad. La Huasteca holds its weight with any on the best places I mentioned above. I have been there 10 times and if I was living closer, I honestly would be there 5 times a week. Everything on the menu is authentic-stone ground-honest ingredients and flavors. Try the Menudo, its not on the menu but is served Thurs-Sunday, I believe. The service is great, lots of Mexican patrons but dont worry as to any language barrier, servers speak English. The salsa was freshly made, with lots of juicy tomato bits, garlic, onion, and cilantro. I enjoyed the just cooked chips and wasted no salsa. I decided to have a pork taco which came with onions and cilantro. It's served on a soft corn tortilla and was the perfect bite. For an entree I chose the chicken enchiladas suizas, which had 4 enchiladas with shredded chicken, topped with cheese, a scoop of guacamole & a red sauce. Then a side of Mexican rice. I added some green salsa for a little more heat. Man these were good, served hot, with soft enchiladas and perfectly seasoned chicken inside. The interior was quaint, clean and comfortable. The service was very friendly from start to finish and food delivered in good time. I definitely felt this place was as authentic and original as you could get. We eat here at least once week for lunch. It was a great find when we moved here three months ago. We have our favorite dishes, but everything we have tried had been excellent. The staff is helpful, friendly and take good care of us. The kitchen is so clean, the floors are very clean. That's impressive! Reasonable prices, too. This charming little spot was so worth the stop! They are kind of hidden, as the only distinguishing marker is the moniker on the awning above the small door. Dont let that fool you though because inside they have plenty of seating to not be crowded for the time we went (about 1pm). The staff was incredible friendly and on point! They were clean and the food was delicious. I dont know that ive had authentic Mexican but they have 4 years worth of certificates stating most authentic taco for the area! I believe it! The salsa was home made the guacamole was as well and I suspect the tortillas were! After eating there was no one in the restaurant aside from my family and my daughters got up and danced to the lively music playing on TV! It was a sweet moment! I gave this place a try based on the reviews here and I was very disappointed. I would not recommend it and I won't be going back. My wife and I have lived all over the country and spent a good deal of time in New Mexico and are very accustom to good Mexican food This place seriously missed the mark. The good: - The waitress was nice and courteous, taking our order and bringing our items in a timely manner. - The menu selection was what I expected from a Mexican restaurant and the prices seemed fair. - My wife liked the green hot sauce that she requested. The bad: - They brought out chips and salsa. The chips were stale and the salsa was very bland with no real spice that I could detect. It tasted tomatoey with a bit of a cilantro flavor. - While my wife liked the green hot sauce, I found that it had a good amount of heat, but tasted sharp and citrusy. - We both ordered the asada tacos and we're both disappointed. The meat seemed tender but tasted like it had no seasoning on it all. I would describe the taste like meat that was panned cooked while frozen. - Strangely, my wife ordered a Coca Cola and was told that they have only Pepsi, despite the fact that the red restaurant cups that they used had Coca Cola written on them. A few minutes after my wife received her can of Pepsi and red Coca Cola cup filled with ice, another patron received a "Mexican Coke" in the glass bottle along with their red Coca Cola cup. - The entire menu was in Spanish. Lucky for us, we speak/read enough Spanish to navigate the menu, but it seems to me to be a very bad idea to have an exclusively Spanish language menu in South Carolina--even if the majority of you clientele are Spanish speakers. - Finally, and probably the most annoying thing, was that the TV on the wall was blaring so loudly that you could not have a conversation while dinning. First time there. Lived here for 6 years, heard people praising it. Ugh! Should have known something was amiss when we sat down for lunch. We were the only people there, a/c under performing and ceiling fans inoperative. Wife ordered 3 chicken tacos with side salad. I ordered beef burrito with side salad. "Oh, you want dressing with the salad? We only have ranch." Wife could only eat 1 1/2 taco. I took a bite. The chicken must have died of old age. What little beef there was in my burrito tasted like it had been cooked in vinegar. It was mostly beans & rice. I had to stand by the register to get their attention so we could check out. An extremely casual experience. We are from Texas and have had a lot of Mexican food. First of all I will grade the dining environment. They didn't appear to have public restrooms. Chips were not fresh. Also, they don't offer tea, and only serve can sodas, and they charge per can. We ordered combo fajitas, the steak looked more like Philly steak sand. meat, it was very thin. The chicken was very bland, veggies had no flavor, and were not cooked long enough. Rice and beans were served room temperature. 3 of us ate, and the bill was 45.00. We will not be back. read more

I chose to eat here today, because I wanted to try something different. I'm glad I did. I had one of the lunch specials, 3 tacos al pastore, pork marinated in pineapple juice, and spices. They came loaded with onion, cilantro, lettuce and pico served with rice and beans and a soft drink, $5.95!!! Amazing. As I was reading the menu I was given a basket of fresh chips and a very mild salsa, it was way to mild for this Mexican, so I asked for the good stuff. What my waitress brought out was the best red and green hot sauce I've had since leaving my moms house 25 years ago. The menu is authentic Mexican food! None of the typical American/Tex Mex. I am so impressed with this place, and so sure my mom is punking me, I'm expecting her to pop out of the kitchen. Wow! This was a really good find! My friend and I were in from out of town and had a taste for Mexican food. This place had a lot of stars on yelp so we gave it a try. So glad we did! The interior is very utilitarian. Small, no more than 10 tables. But the food is extremely good! Guac is fresh and creamy with chunks of avocado. Not blended completely smooth. Felt very much like what would be eaten in a Mexican home. Chips were good and crispy. Salsa very fresh. Green salsa was VERY hot so you only need a little bit. After reading the other reviews I was really looking forward to trying this place but I have to say I was rather disappointed. On the positive side the salsas they had were very good (I just tried the more mild red salsa, while my wife liked the hotter green salsa quite a bit), the guacamole dip was good and the service was decent. On the negative side the entrees just seemed average at best to me. I had chicken enchiladas (which had a mix of white and dark meat which I'd not seen done before) and while they weren't bad they were nothing to get excited over. My wife had a chile relleno which she wasn't thrilled with. The drinks were bottle/can, so no refills (and no alcohol available either). The ambiance was fairly plain. The prices weren't really low, either in comparison to what Mexican restaurants usually run (almost $30 for two entrees, drinks, and guac without tip for the two of us). I could have overlooked all the other drawbacks if the food had been amazing, but it just wasn't. Maybe we just tried the wrong items, but I can't foresee giving them another shot since it isn't conveniently located to us. read more
