I had visited Agave probably 5 years ago when they were located near Captain Woody's. Now they took over the Old Town Dispensary location. Not much has changed inside. I was there with a group for lunch and Dion was our waiter. I ordered the Quesadillas with shrimp. They come out pre-sliced and set in a cardboard container. Large outdoor seating area with live music on a Saturday evening around 6:30. They quickly moved us to a table farther away from the stage so we could hear our conversation with each other. I had heard great things about Agave but never made it to their old location. Finally, I got around to trying them in the new location. Unfortunately, I think we must have hit them at a bad time. The service was slow and not great. We had to grab a bar table as the other indoor seating was taken. It was rainy so we didn't want to sit outside. They were slow to approach to take our orders. Once our order was placed, the food came out petty quickly. However, they forgot to bring any silverware or napkins after our food was brought out. I had to go to the bar to ask. I ordered a chicken burrito. I didn't see the salsa, guacamole, or sour cream on my burrito. It was rather bland & the chicken had odd texture. Hubs ordered some sort of pulled pork for his burrito. He said his was not good at all. Again, not sure if we just caught them on a bad night, but we were very disappointed in the food & service. Margaritas were good, so that's a plus. read more

For a quick lunch this place was decent. I had a coconut drink and I wasn't a huge fan of it. My husband had a pina colada and he loved it. I ordered the street corn shaved off and the cheese and mayo were just piled on top of the corn in a bowl. I had to dump it out and mix it. I also ordered the mahi mahi taco. The fish itself lacked flavor and it just tasted charred from the grill. The mango salsa on top was yummy though. My husband and his brother had the spicy shrimp tacos and they loved them. read more

Cute spot in downtown Bluffton. Not a lot of seating, which we were a little skeptical about because there are only a few tables outside and just indoor bar seating. Our waitress was nice, didn't come around often but I think she was just letting our table chit chat and catch up. Our food came out very quick and it was delicious. After completing our 4.5-mile hike at the beautiful Pinckney Island National Wildlife Reserve, we took a quick drive to Bluffton. There is an area here with about 10 restaurants, most of which offer outdoor seating. We selected Agave because of the nicely shaded tables and casual vibe. It only received 3.5 stars on Yelp, but we decided to throw caution to the wind, and sat down for some basic Mexican fare. We ordered a quesadilla with chicken, a mahi-mahi taco, and a chicken taco. The tacos are on the smaller side, so they recommended ordering two tacos as a meal. We thought the mahi-mahi taco was by far the best, and it was quite good. The chicken was dry, so both the quesadilla and the chicken taco were underwhelming. I personally disliked the chicken quesadilla and would not order that again. The venue is very pleasant, it seems like this is more of a hangout than a restaurant destination. I think the Yelpers arrived at the correct conclusion, this is about a 3 to 3.5 star place. read more

A big difference between the old cozy location and this new larger one. The margaritas used to be the very best around. Not so yesterday. You can usually safely order a skinny marg and have it fresh and tasty at most places. Not the case here now. Even the blood orange marg with Patron was weak and watery tasting. Chips and salsa are good and the food was decent but the drinks were enough to prevent us from returning. Upon closing our tab, I told our server to relay to the bar that the drinks were not good. She apologized and offered to bring us a free drink to make up for it but we declined and asked that she pass the feedback to the bar and manager. read more

One sad thing about the area is a restaurants need to make things mild/without too much flavor for the old white customers. The corn, queso, and mahi tacos were great but needed the extra kick of hot sauce/jalapeños. The queso only came with 2 slices of jalapeños when it's described with jalapeños on the menu. Everything was warm, chips weren't stale. Prices are ridiculous though and aren't correct to what is on the website. Would only see myself returning if I was invited out or learned about some happy hour food option. read more

Only because a lot of the stuff is homemade it's not generic garbage and I've never had salsa like this in my life. Every time I come here I get the Mahi Mahi taco, it's my favorite. My taco was served to me burned. And it was NOT blackened, it was burned and tasted like coal. The manager tried to help make it better by telling me I was wrong, as if that's how it should be cooked, which was not true because I've had it before many times. I don't appreciate that at all. She went back and forth with me about it to the point of frustration where I was so upset and still hungry, I just wanted to leave at that point. I won't be returning here. read more

I was recently there with some family. We had stopped to get a drink and appetizer before our reservation. The night was pleasant so we sat at one of the many open tables on the patio. We were ignored by the waitress. She walked by us three times. After around 15 minutes the two hostesses approached saying the tables were for food orders only. We had told them why we were there when we were seated. We were told sorry but unless we ordered a meal we had to leave. Remember that there were several empty tables. Maybe it was a one time thing but I will never know. read more

Agave recently moved fo a larger location (which says something about their popularity). They offer the same incredible food, even with some added menu items at great prices. I have been to Agave well over 20 times and have yet to be disappointed. The staff is by far the friendliest. You might even get a chance to eat alongside live music with their outdoor stage! We went here on our way to Hilton Head. We arrived on a Sunday at about 3. We went inside first (thinking we had to check in) and were told no kids at the bar as our 10 and 16 year old were with us. LOL! We quickly found a table outside. The food was simple and fresh. The tortilla chips seemed homemade or at least very fresh. The margaritas were awesome! My favorite was the strawberry cucumber. We also had the black cherry and regular margarita. Our favorite taco was the mahi-mahi taco. The chicken taco was a bit dry. My 10 year old didn't love the food. She got a brisket taco with a side of beans and just wanted black beans but they gave he beans with onions and tomatoes. She loved the churros though. They were very fresh and gave her a huge plate of them. I gave them 4 stars because some of the food (chicken and brisket) seemed dry and the portions are small. You need 2 Tacos for a meal. One taco would be a light snack. But, it was actually our favorite restaurant of the trip. The ones we went to in Hilton Head turned out to be duds. This food was fresh, tasty and arrived quickly.
