As there are so many transplants here to the Low Country, it's difficult to find the "best" Mexican restaurant based on your past experience. I must say Mi Tierra is one of the best finds around. I came here to specifically praise their chili relleno - it tends to be my go-to item to "judge" a Mexican restaurant. Vegetarian or not - worth a try! My fave food at this raids the cocktail camaron. Shrimp cocktail. I describe it to others as a giant goblet of cold shrimp soup. Loaded with shrimp and avocado. I always get this when I go. Well they are still charging for a tiny bowl of Salsa while all other restaurants do not. Today 3 people at the table, would only give 1 salsa per table. charged 1.50 for extra. Time before 2 couples and charged one couple for salsa. If each couple was at separate tables it would be no charge. Other resturants bring one for each couple and free refills. What is wrong with this place? If I eat there again, I will bring my own salsa from one of there competitors. Cheap, cheap. Not good practice. Has not always been this way. read more

Solid - I only rated a 3/5 because Tex Mex isn't my fav. That said, Mi Tierra is a great option if you're looking for Mexican. They're great about substitutions (extra veg, no cheese lol) and have good service. As with most Tex Mex spots, big portions and a huge menu, so everyone should be able to find something they want. This is truly authentic Mexican food and it's one place in the area that gives you good quality, top notch, tasty food without trying to rob you. Food is good and service is as well. I have going to eat for years. My concern is the overall cleanliness. If you look at the ceiling in the main dining area as well as the back room. The ceiling is very dirty, particularly around the air vents. This is common when the a/c is no maintained properly and filters changed regularly. Also in the back room, the walls have been patched but not painted...really? Come on, this could all be corrected in one day if the owners wanted to. Unless they don't care. It's no surprise this is rated the best Mexican restaurant in Bluffton. During busy times, parking is of a premium here. They share their parking lot with other stores in the strip. You may find yourself parking on the street or in downtown and walking. We were seated as soon as we arrived and Luis greeted us immediately asking if we'd like a drink to get things started. They did have quite a few beers on draft including Dos Equis, Modelo and Michelob, but I was in the mood for a margarita. Their margaritas are $6.95 standard served in a large 16 oz glass. They may have had a premix, but nevertheless it was very good. For dinner, my wife ordered the veggie burrito and I had the Chimichanga Del Mar. I highly recommend the Chimichanga if you're hungry. Wow was this place can be described as nothing more than mediocre. Stopped here on the way back to HHI because there was no wait. Now we know why!
