Delayed flight so had 4 hour layover at Phoenix airport with hungry kids. Pizza had just been put in self serve area so got a Pepperoni pizza, Gladiator Pizza, and a cheese pizza.Also picked up a Kale and Quinoa Salad with added chicken At first my daughter thought there were only 4 pieces of pepperoni on her pizza, but found out the rest were under the cheese. The Ricky Martin burrito was ok. I wouldn't order it again. It comes with "pepperoni-style" chorizo, so, it's not mixed with the egg. The latte was made well, frothy milk and very hot. For an airport lunch, you can do a lot worse than La Grande Orange. It was a pleasant surprise in Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (terminal 4.) They feature an array of sandwiches, wraps, breakfast sandwiches, salads and personal pizzas. I opted for the veggie sandwich which was really colorful and piled high with colorful, fresh produce. The bread was lightly toasted and some kind of spelt bread so a cut above just your slices white or wheat. Definitely had healthy and fresh options to elevate your to go airport meal a bit. Wish they had locations at other airports I frequent. Prices weren't bad either. My sandwich, chips and drink came to around $12, a steal for a decent airport lunch! This was a quick stop for food between flights - knowing Southwest only provides snacks on the long flight ahead. Never heard of the big orange but this spot was crowded while the adjacent restaurant was nearly empty. The space is semi-circular with four "stations" along the inside perimeter and seating on the outside. No table service, strictly order and find a seat. The stations included a Beverage section for alcohol, wine and beer a Burger station for grilled sandwiches and burgers, a Sandwich station for cold wraps and other sandwich fare and a Pizza station for personal sized build your own pizzas. Basically all the food groups and something to wash it all down! We opted for a moderately healthy choice, turkey on Levain (sourdough) bread. We found that all the cold sandwiches were premade that day, AND , we both wanted something slightly different than the menu (no tomato on one, no avocado on the other). As we suggested to the cashier we would deconstruct the sandwich, she offered to have new ones made to order! Boom! Instant fans. I stopped by here yesterday with my wife for our lunch. We were flying out of PHX that day and with a 4 hour flight over lunch, we felt it prudent to get ourselves some food. We ended up drawing a D gate for our departure and so heading to La Grande Orange was more of a convenience than a choice. This restaurant consists of a large space where it has seats, coolers of to go food and then multiple different registers to order from. They offer everything from burgers and sandwiches to salads and gelato and even had pizza on the menu although I didn't see anyone ordering it. My wife and I both looked at the menu as well as the to go food and both ultimately ended up choosing the chopped turkey salad. What was nice was that I could grab a to go version of it without having to wait for them to make it which was nice. They actually had pre made versions of most of their sandwiches and salads which I thought was nice. The salad consisted of turkey, lettuce, tomato, egg, avocado, bacon, Point Reyes Blue Cheese, cheddar and came with both ranch and champagne vinaigrette. It was nice to be able to choose my dressing and I ultimately went with the vinaigrette. As for the salad itself, it was pretty decent and I liked how much cheddar and blue cheese was on it. The turkey, while looking like lunch meat, certainly didn't taste like it and was enjoyable. Then the avocado and egg made it feel somewhat healthy which is always appreciated when eating something from an airport. It was only the lettuce which let down this salad a bit as it was a shredded combination of iceberg and romaine (I think) and felt rather flat. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. I love trying to eat at least somewhat healthy in the airport and Le Grande Orange helped accomplish that goal. read more
