Solid lil restaurant and cantina in Phoenix IAP Terminal 4. I got into Phoenix early in the morning and was looking for a quiet place to grab breakfast. I stumbled onto Cowboy Ciao in Terminal 4 and was pleasantly surprised. Cool vibes (the employees reminded me of the movie "Waiting" with a mix of all different people), the service was friendly and fast, and the food was good. Cowboy Ciao was near my gate so I thought I'd stop for lunch. The Caesar salad was standard with well seasoned chicken. It was quite expensive for a salad, but I guess that's typical airport prices for you. The service was very friendly and welcoming. I will note that my server forgot my fries, but quickly brought it out when I asked. Very comfortable and had just enough space for travelers with luggage, as expected. I didn't eat at the regular restaurant but the self-service Cowboy Ciao kiosk at Terminal 4 because I just needed a quick sandwich and a bottle of water for my flight. The only reason I'm doing this review is because the sandwich was actually really good, and I usually have terrible experiences with grab-and-go sandwiches. Specifically, I picked up the Well-Fed cold ham and Swiss sandwich on wheatberry bread. If you can find this brand elsewhere, I'm sure it would be just as good. When flying out of Sky Harbor, my gate was moved to this area which is where I've noticed most international flights depart/arrive from. My coworker and I decided to stop here as we had an hour before boarding (later delayed to have more time). Historically, I haven't eaten meat for a couple years, but I decided to have a steak as I've been adding slowly in per doctor's dietary recommendations. The menu lists as "Flat Iron Steak." It didn't mentioned being sliced and I genuinely thought would be served as a steak. It was only four slices and due to slicing lost a lot of the juices (likely the meat wasn't rested), and also seemed unevenly cooked. Pretty disappointing for spending $35.99 and it listed as one of their speciality items. Also, it said it was served with roasted red potatoes, when it came with the breakfast potatoes typically served at other restaurants. Overall, a disappointing meal and the tables seemed cramped/too close together to be comfortable while you ate. read more

Stopped in on the second leg of my flight because it was close to my gate. It is very loud and they were busy. I think because they serve alcohol. They have a limited menu (sorry forgot to photo) most items start at $13 and go up. I had the Mac and Cheese and it came with bacon and the bacon made it complete. It was filling for me. After a miserable the day before missing our connection in LAX from Dublin, Ireland, early next morning we were provided a flight to OR via Phoenix. We arrived to Phoenix worn out with the same clothes from a long flight and very hungry. Our gate to our next flight was close to Cowboy Ciao. We ordered breakfast quesadilla and breakfast sandwich. I ordered a fried chicken sandwich, but only ate the chicken too avoid the bread. It was really good. Also has an espresso martini. For an airport restaurant/bar, I'm pretty impressed. As far as airport restaurants go, this one was pretty decent. Fast food just steps away was crowded with people waiting for food and this place had dozens on open tables. The service was quick too. I had the ciao burrito (breakfast) with fried potatoes which were pretty decent. There's a window looking out to the jetways so there's decent natural light. The service here has a a joke. Some guy sits you down and you wait what seems like an eternity for your order to be taken. Music is playing. People are relaxing but the server is even more relaxed. Ordered the chicken sandwich, must say it is not bad at all. Did have a good crispy skin. Had lemonade and it is watered down. They never check on you. I just had one of the best salads of my life! If you ever are in Sky Harbor terminal 4 and you have time, you gotta try their Stetson Choppes Salad! I never expected to eat cous cous at the airport! The salad was absolutely delicious with arugula, cous cous, cranberries, avocado and Smoked salmon!! (You can choose chicken instead, too) I looked at what other people were eating and their quesadilla and shrimp with polenta(polenta at an airport!!??!) looked good as well. I've never been served a BLT on a mildly warm English muffin with large bacon bits, lettuce, tomato but no mayo. I asked for mayo to add to it but nothing can make this taste like a BLT. Phoenix doesn't offer many sit-down dining options, especially in the B-C gate areas, but Cowboy Ciao is one of the few available. It was fairly busy on a Monday afternoon, but we were looking for a place to watch the football game, and luckily, they had it on. The menu has good options, though a bit limited. I only spotted three vegetarian dishes during our visit. The chopped salad was a refreshing choice, especially after several meat-heavy days in Mexico with little to no veggies. I ordered two guava margaritas-- the first one was disappointing, with almost no flavor. However, the second was much better, served with a salted rim, in a nicer glass (since they don't provide straws), and had an incredible guava flavor. I guess it depends on who's tending the bar. I must admit, I was skeptical given the reviews of Cowboy Ciao. But, I was starving, had a 3hr layover yesterday AND didn't feel like hiking around Skyharbor so...I stepped inside. Was pleasantly surprised. Sat at the bar since I was traveling alone. Bartender was fast and professional. She was quick with the drink order and gave me time to review the menu. No pressure to hurry even though the place was pretty crowded (about 5:30p). Ordered a burger and fries. Burger was cooked perfectly to order (medium), fries were fresh and crispy with lots of seasoning. Food came out in about 15min so timing was good. I pulled out my laptop to get some work done since I had time to kill. No pressure to pay and move on. Would definitely stop into Cowboy Ciao again if time and circumstance allowed. read more

I was a tired traveler when I went through the Phoenix airport and found this delightful restaurant. They had one of the best Reuben sandwiches I've ever had in my life. They put a fun little twist on it with a chipotle dressing and spiced it up a bit. They also did not do the typical sauerkraut, but had a red cabbage slaw on the marbled rye. The sandwich was just perfection indeed. I was seated immediately. Service was quick, easy, and easy to flag them down when I needed extra ketchup for my fries.
