We were in Miami from Orlando to celebrate my wife's best friend's birthday and had dinner at La Giraldilla with her, her husband, their soon-to-be one-year-old, and my wife's two daughters. The experience was top-notch. We started with some Spanish croquettes--crispy, creamy, and seasoned just right. Three of us had a lobster bisque-style soup that was on another level: rich, smooth, and packed with flavor. I had a fresh, simple salad, and one of the teens ordered a churrasco that was grilled perfectly. My wife had the Chicken Alfredo, and let me tell you--it was outstanding. Creamy, flavorful, and done to perfection. She's picky when it comes to pasta, and this one got her seal of approval. The bread they brought out was warm and fresh--one of those little details that sets a place apart. We enjoyed a great red wine recommended by our server, and it paired beautifully with the meal. The service overall was very good--polite and attentive--and they even sang Happy Birthday for the guest of honor, which made the night even more special. Desserts? Yes, we went all in. We shared a tiramisu, a crème brûlée, and another dessert with ice cream that I couldn't quite name, but it was ridiculously good. Everything was plated nicely, tasted homemade, and gave the meal a sweet, classy finish. The only real critique was the clearing of plates. They were clearly understaffed, and at times, our used dishes stayed on the table longer than they should have. In one instance, the next course came out before the table was cleared. Not the end of the world, but worth noting. On the way to the restroom, I caught a glimpse of the kitchen--it was spotless and organized. That says a lot. Yes, the prices are on the higher end, but it's absolutely justified. This place is one of those Miami culinary gems that gets it right. We'll definitely be back. Acompañamos la comida con un vino tinto excelente, recomendado por nuestro mesero, que complementó perfectamente los sabores. El servicio en general fue muy bueno--amable y atento--y hasta cantaron Feliz Cumpleaños a la homenajeada, lo cual hizo la noche aún más especial. ¿Y los postres? Fuimos con todo. Living in the community right behind La Giraldilla, I've gotten to know the place well. Their biggest strength is the ventanita -- the Cuban pastries, croquetas, and cafecito are always on point. Breakfast here also never disappoints, and I'd even stop by for a sandwich at lunch, which tends to hit the spot too. Where it falls flat is the rest of the menu. The chicken soup, which should be a Cuban staple, is surprisingly mediocre, and overall the larger entrées just don't stand out. On the flip side, the people are friendly, the service is good, and they remember your name, giving the place that homie neighborhood feel. This is my Dad's favorite local breakfast spot. Food is delicious and the servers are always so sweet and helpful. My Dad said they open up inside on the weekends, but we enjoyed sitting outside. I went to get my chicken soup from here this week because I wasn't feeling well and it was the right decision to make since it was so tasty and affordable price. They serve breakfast until 11 outside but then after 11 you can go and eat inside. They have tables and chairs outside and the service was excellent. This is our BAD experience today in La Giraldilla Restaurant We have been loyal customers of La Giraldilla for many years, both at the restaurant and the cafeteria. Sadly, after our experience today, Father's Day, we will never return. We arrived as a family of four to have breakfast and were initially greeted with water and menus. However, after that, we were completely ignored for approximately 40 minutes, until the owner noticed our frustrated looks toward the kitchen. Only then did a server take our order. Soon after, we received orange juice, tostadas, and café con leche. The rest of our meal, croissants and eggs, was supposedly coming "right after." Thirty more minutes passed. Our coffee went cold. My sons finished what little they had. No one came by to check on us or explain the delay. I eventually got up and told the waiter we were leaving. I offered to pay for what we had consumed, but not for the items that never arrived. When he informed the owner, I saw the man (whom I later found out was the owner) say from the kitchen: "No, they're not leaving. If they ordered, they have to pay for everything." That's when things escalated. I approached the waiter and insisted we would not pay for food that was never served. The owner then came out and, in a loud, disrespectful manner, repeated that we had to pay. He offered no apology, no explanation, only hostility. Then he said, "Don't pay. But don't ever come back to my restaurant." He didn't need to say it twice, we had already made that decision. It's deeply disappointing that what was meant to be a joyful Father's Day turned into such a disrespectful experience. We may not have lost much, but La Giraldilla Restaurant has lost loyal customers. And we will be sure to share this story so others are aware of how poorly we were treated on what should have been a special day. read more

Wanting to try a new place near our home we stopped at this restaurant. The place is pretty big but when we went for dinner on a weekday it was empty. A couple of people came in later. Our server was great, very professional. We looked over the menu and not wanting to choose something we wouldn't like we went over the menu over and over. We finally decided for a wheat puff milkshake (trigo) for me abs my husband ordered a Mamey shake. For appetizers I ordered the fried calamari but I didn't realize that they use cocktail sauce as opposed marinara sauce of the aioli that other places use which I like. So that was a bummer. The calamari was well Cooked not rubbery. For the main dish my husband ordered a the vaca frita on a bed of fufu with a side of vegetables. And I opted for the fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp, I wasn't a fan of the melted cheese on top of the pasta. I actually brought it home for one of my kids Overall, It was an ok experience. This used to be my go to breakfast spot for my traditional Hispanic breakfast. The quality of food and atmosphere has gone down. I ordered French toast and it wasn't fully cooked through. The bacon was good and the colada was also good. The best thing I had was the tostada. To top it off and make the experience worse, both tables to my left were smoking. To my left both gentlemen were smoking cigarettes and to my right a gentleman was smoking a cigar. It is an outdoor patIo setup so I understood why they were smoking but the tables were so tight that it ruined my appetite. I will not be returning. read more

Their Cuban food is good, although today and the last time I was there a couple of weeks ago, the service was quite lacking. The portions are a good size so I take half home. Was my first time here. For the short version: Average quality food, big portions, very cheap price, nice comfy place, average service (in my one and only experience here). And for the long version: The good things are: 1)The place itself, has a nice outdoor area with enough shade of its too hot and plenty of tables. Nice to si out during a Sunday brunch! The inside is also very comfy, has booths and a bar; 2) The price.. we had a huge breakfast for 2, with left overs.. and spend $16 plus the %20 tip. The not-so-good: 1) The service.. our waiter as nice she just seemed rushed. She forgot to bring our Cuban Tostadas which ok can happen.. but then we asked the busser lady to please call her and she just seemed annoyed to be talked to, said she'd call her and stayed standing in a corner talking to other people. We asked her twice and got the same response with the typical eye roll. Also, the Tostada tasted funny.. had kind o f a bitter or saltless taste to it? The bacon was Drenched in oil.. like more than enjoyable. French fries were very good tho! Again, this was my experience having been here once. I would say growing up in south Florida gives me the notoriety to review local Cuban eateries. My mom moved to west Kendall since I left the nest. She found a little local gem. I ordered the two eggs, added another croqueta since I'm passionate about them. The croquetas were the right consistency throughout, great job with that. The tostada perfectly crunchy and amazingly buttered. The fries were crunchy and at the right temperature. Overall, great breakfast experience. The locals were very welcoming and friendly. Decided to head over for a relaxing, Tuesday night dinner with my wife and daughter. However, after waiting at hostess stand for 5 minutes (mind you, only one table in restaurant was occupied by two people), I picked up menus and seated us. Waitress came by and greeted us; water a few minutes later. Meanwhile, an obnoxious man at the bar was conducting a vulgar conversation. ON SPEAKERPHONE! While we were clearly upset with it, I was stunned that no one at the restaurant said a word to this person. Bread was brought to our table; just in time to catch us as we chose to leave before I said something that could have created a scene. New staff. Not sure about management. But THIS took the cake. I am feeling that I cannot recommend this restaurant any longer. Management needs to wake up and see what's happening on the floor; not leaving a waitress with less than two months experience absolutely on her own to deal with these awkward situations. I recommend the American Breakfast which brings your usual breakfast items plus pancakes. If you go for lunch or dinner you will see what you see at most every cuban restaurant.
