I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The wait for our food was extremely long, and when we politely asked how much longer it would take, one of the staff responded in an unprofessional manner. We understand that restaurants can get busy, but we were the only group at the restaurant and good communication and customer service is important. Unfortunately, the lack of professionalism and the excessive wait time made our visit unpleasant. I hope management addresses these issues to improve future customers' experiences. Everyone on Yelp is right, your bacon stuffed shrimp is delicious. your drinks are beautiful (especially the one with the smoke), and steaks grilled to perfection. It was hard to limit my kids to only two refills, and the premium sides were a bit small vs shareable. I'd really like to give 4stars, however, this evening had some disappointments. My husband's Elk Filet was wonderful. Especially with the sauce that came with it. On the other hand, my beautiful large Lobster Tail had little flavor even with the lemon I had to ask for. And it was chewy around the edges. Like gristle chewy. I also had to ask for the tail to be removed from the shell. I'm used to being asked if I want/need anything else. (Gee, I sound like a snob.) The place has been beautifully appointed. That part was lovely and felt classy. But the big screen TV playing a sports game was a big distraction. It was our 45th anniversary and I had hoped for a little more intimate atmosphere. Last of all, the menu was quite varied. However, they didn't have several of the items available. Please go and give them a try. It's great to have fancy/nice restaurants nearby. read more

I had breakfast here this morning with a group. The restaurant is decorated in black and gold very pretty. The wait staff was friendly and welcoming. The waitress suggested the tuna sandwich as one of the favorites in that category. The orders took a very long time to b served. When mine came it was raw tuna . I was expecting a warm seared tuna steak sandwich. I immediately told the waitress. She asked me if I wanted the menu to order something else. I told her no as I didn't want to keep the rest of the party waiting. At that point I would have thought that management would have brought me an easy complimentary item like a dessert. They didn't explain that the sandwich was raw fish, that was their mistake. Also, I was sitting there with no food until my friend offered to share with me. To me this was a missed customer serving opportunity. Going a little extra to smooth things over goes a long way and it didn't happen in this case. read more

Came for a birthday. Restaurant is stunning, bathroom doesn't match the place, felt like a gas station bathroom. The food and drinks look instagramable, however no taste. Service was great,. feel like they need to improve their menu to make it taste better. We were a party of 8 and 4 of us did not like the food, one was returned. The menu said grilled calamari, instead chef prepared it with garlic butter sauce, very bland, looked boiled, no taste. Maybe breakfast is better, it's a new place, I'll give it a year to try it again. read more

My three girlfriends and I visited La Duquesa for dinner, and from the moment we walked in we were impressed. We were seated promptly, and the space is beautiful -- black and gold tones, plenty of windows, and a warm, polished atmosphere that feels special without being stuffy. The menu is surprisingly extensive, with something for everyone. Most dishes are structured as a set-price meal, where you get an entrée plus either an appetizer or premium side and a soup or salad. For Ventura, that value is excellent -- my entire three-item meal was only around $40. The wine prices are equally friendly: we enjoyed two bottles at $36 each. Our server was outstanding -- attentive, personable, and patient as we asked questions and ordered four totally different meals. Between us we covered steak, fish, and a couple other entrées, and not a single person had anything negative to say. Everything was hot, well-seasoned, and delicious. We've heard great things about their breakfast and cocktails as well, so we're already planning a return visit. Overall: Great food, great service, great value. Highly recommend La Duquesa -- a wonderful new spot in Ventura that's absolutely worth trying. read more

Horrible ambiance. Very cold. Incredibly loud and obnoxious couple sitting at the bar. Impossible to have a conversation at a dinner table while they carried on. Shocked the management didn't ask them to keep it at a dull roar or leave. Food is ridiculously overpriced. $15 for a teeny house salad. $5 for a plain iced tea. Came in with friends just to try drinks and appetizers. The restaurant is beautiful with cozy booths and pretty table settings. Greeted very warmly by staff. We ordered a Negroni which came in a martini glass with NO ice....a Negroni needs a big ice cube or ball in it! That was disappointing. We ordered bacon wrapped shrimp that were huge and delicious. Mozzarella sticks that passed the cheese pull test nicely. I will go back and try a breakfast sometime. Meanwhile they need to make that Negroni with ice. read more

The ambiance is beautiful. The drinks were good. Service was really good.We were really excited about the $39 pre fix menu. My husband got French onion soup and didn't like it. He said it was bland. The bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer was really good. Our friend got the pork chop and said it wasn't good. We got the filet and it was a bit undercooked and wasn't seasoned very well. This is a really beautiful restaurant, and you can tell they are working to keep their prices competitive, they just need a little work on the food. read more

Review Food was good quality but service was lacking. I was a guest of a group reservation, arrived on time. Seated, and slowly got drinks ordered. It probably took 20 min for us to ask server to get our orders in, and another server came in to take it. Between the first appetizer & salads came out to main entree, it was easily 40 min. While some of us did have an appetizer, there was 1-2 people who only ordered an entree and had been waiting for 1.5 hrs without proper communication. It was then 10pm, and Food was lagging until one of our guests asked server how much longer our entrees were going to come out. He responded with "it's in the kitchen and coming soon" but never actually told us how long after asking again, how much longer. His tone was rude and we were about to leave, given we had already been there for 2 hours without our main entres. The server taking care of our drinks was probably the only nice one there, and considerate of us. We ended up eating by 10:30 and although food had a good taste, the service left us a bad one. Again, this complaint is about the service. Having a reservation should prep your kitchen for 12 people. It was disappointing to hear your server say it wasn't his problem, but the kitchen's. If there was a lack of kitchen staff, the best thing you could do is let your customers know there will be a delay. There really isn't any reason you make your clients go through a bad experience for your lack of preparation or communication. Nothing was offered in lieu of the delay, so that speaks volumes of how your team resolves issues. There was literally 3 parties last night, us a 12-person party, and 2 parties of 2. Very likely we won't be coming back. read more

Service was incredibly awkward and forced, servers didn't know anything about the food or wine they were serving, they approached the table too many times, and the dishes were not coursed out to proper timing. Ambiance was unpleasant. Fox News was on a ginormous television which made it difficult to focus on anything else, except the house lights which were so bright that it made the menu lights insignificant. Got the Tomahawk steak , ordered it medium and it came out COLD ... like not cooked enough cold... and red like it just died. Sent it back asking for a little more grill and it came back the exact same . Took it home and cooked it myself and it was pretty good but it felt like it was a 100$ waste . Went here for breakfast with my family. The food itself was good, which makes this even more frustrating. What wasn't good was the lack of transparency about drink refills. My cousin got apple juice and was allowed to refill it multiple times -- no one said a word. We later found out we were charged for each refill. At no point did the server mention refills weren't free, and there was no notice on the menu either. If we had known, we obviously wouldn't have kept refilling. It's not about the juice -- it's about being informed. Letting someone refill several times and only revealing the charges on the bill feels misleading and honestly pretty shady. Good food doesn't make up for policies that aren't clearly communicated. We won't be coming back. read more
