Stopped in Lubbock en route to Dallas from Oregon and was pleasantly surprised to find this place. Open late - a necessity for us, as we rolled into town at 9:45 - and utterly charming, we were able to get a fresh, delicious, locally sourced dinner. This establishment was definitely the high point of our day and among those of our trip. We ordered the caprese salad, tomato bisque soup and two small plates, the dos tacos papacitos and the santo burillo. We also ordered some sangria and a Chilean Pinot noir. Everything was excellent, although the sangria was not to my taste. I wish we had a reason to return to Lubbock! read more

The food and beverages at La Diosa are DELICIOUS. That said, they have BIG problems with being open when they say they will be. I've lost count of how many times (including again today) I've gone by for their regularly scheduled first Sunday Jazz brunch to find the restaurant locked. Further frustrating the process, there has yet to be a posted sign, information on their facebook page, or a warning for patrons on their website about these closures so there is no way for patrons to know what to expect. Oh my goodness this place is so cute. The food is tapas so don't expect big portions that you'll be packing extra of. It's more of everyone get a tapa and them share them around the table. BEST sangria I have had and it's 15 dollars for an entire pitcher which was the perfect amount for me and my date. Overall we spent 60 dollars which didn't seem so bad! That included the sangrias, three tapas and a delicious bread pudding for dessert. We left feeling satisfied and not overly stuffed and sleepy. The restaurant is very cozy and colorful. We sat on couches which made our date way more comfortable and less formal. Speed of service was so quick. We went on a Wednesday. Overall we really loved this place and we'll definitely be coming back again! read more

This is a charming spot in Lubbock. I love the mix of chairs and couches - it feels very relaxed and cozy. We were here on a Wed night and there were hardly any other folks in there, which seemed like such a surprise! (We later learned its finals week, so that might explain it.) They have an extensive wine list, and as others have mentioned, the sangria is particularly delicious. There are plenty of vegetarian options, with the queso (mixed with artichoke - so yummy!) being a particular highlight. My boy loved the meatballs and the stuffed jalapeños. read more

We went here last night for dinner and sangria. It was delicious! We so enjoyed every bit of it. Our server was great, very attentive. The atmosphere is really nice. Very relaxed and well decorated with interesting art all over. The sangria is delicious. We got a pitcher and it was great and plenty for two. We got four dishes to share between two and we were satisfied and full. All the food was really good. The only thing we probably wouldn't get again was the enchiladas. Surprisingly there was too much cheese on top. It tasted like we were eating a plate of melted cheese. We also got creme brûlée at the end and it was very good. Live music started near the end of our meal which was a welcome surprise. Very enjoyable restaurant for a date. read more

This is probably my favorite Tapas place in Lubbock. We come here for the environment, which only gets better with their amazing Sangria and they always have a good affordable wine list. After reading the menu you realize that it was written by someone who knows and appreciates food. The pricing on the food is standard for similar dishes at restaurants in town. The service at La Diosa is great, they know the difference between being attentive and allowing you to have space to enjoy your evening. During the night we spent at La Diosa we ordered four tapas and two bottles of wine. The food was good, but not the best we have had at La Diosa. Their was one dish that was way over salted, which they gladly took off our bill. In the past we have tried their Risotto and Paella which is Amazing!! Overall I don't think you can go wrong here. They have a great extensive menu and if you are into live music they always have decent jazz bands. read more

My bf took me here for my birthday and we got a bottle of wine. I forgot the name but it was a red blend, and it was amazing, and not super expensive. We ordered tapas one at a time; these included the saffron shrimp, meatballs, brie, and a flatbread. All the food was really good, the only exception would be the shrimp which were just ok. Pros: Fantastic tapas- the hummus trio was seriously to die for. The olive/almond plate, meatballs, and Catalina Pizza were also very good. But that hummus, though! The location and interior are top notch- you can easily eat here then enjoy a night out at the depot. The aperol spritz was a fantastic drink, though inconsistent. My first one was perfect, but the second was very, very strong. And I don't typically frown on that, but it was rough. Cons: The service. I've been here twice and both waiters were horrible. My first time was on a somewhat busy night, so we were understanding, but this time it was DEAD and our guy was totally MIA. I love tapas and this place does it right, in my estimation! Has a very cool, eclectic aesthetic, which is right up my alley, and it totally adds to the feel and ambiance. I highly recommend anything on the menu, have not been disappointed in their food and their wines pair well with the food. It is a bit pricier, but for an occassional experience that takes you (at least partially) out of the west texas steak and tex-mex options of most places, to a refreshing and unique option that shouldnt be missed! read more

What a GEM!!! If you are in a hurry don't bother, but if you want to sit and enjoy your wine and tapas with friends or a date this is the perfect place. The service was ok, but the food and atmosphere make up for that. The decor is eclectic, and comfortable, I can't wait to come back with a larger group and hang out in the couch area. The Friday night that we were there had an amazing combo named "The Tumbleweeds" they were great, the music was fantastic and we stayed longer than expected to listen to their great music. We ordered a bottle of wine and the Albondigas De Madrid & Nueva Fresca Pizetta, everything was perfect. The meatballs are amazing and the flavors of the Pizetta were a great combo. read more

Choosing where to eat for my birthday weekend every year is no joke. When I finally chose La Diosa after some FBI-thorough Yelping, I was pretty much pinning all 25 years of hopes and dreams on it. I'd been once before a couple years back, only remembering that the sangria was bomb and the tacos were tiny. Flash forward to 2017: the sangria is still bomb, the tapas are still tiny, but my stomach and I will probably be back multiple times before I graduate. Space | The interior is gorgeous and makes you forget you're in Lubbock. Great backdrop for photos! There's a variety of seating options that work for any sized group. I think I had 11 people with me in total, which wasn't at all a problem on a busy Saturday night. Service | Y'all. The slooow service here really killed it for me, and I'm usually a patient person on that front. I wanna say it took us 1.5 hours to get our food after ordering, and probably around 30-45 min of clearly waiting around to get our checks. The hostess was nice but she was super hard to track down when we needed her. The place was full, but for as long as they've been around, I would expect that not to be a huge deal. Luckily the sangria will keep you somewhat occupied while you wait! Dinner | The food is what saves the rating. This is the only place around here with a tapas-style menu, and they offer a bunch of unique items to share - or not, if you're like me/Joey from Friends. The Barcelona pizetta is a 10/10; the sweetness of the red onion really nicely balances out the savory kick from the cheeses/chicken. I taste-tested my friends' Rebecca and Angelina tapas as well, which I'm keeping on the list for next time. As the names imply, portions are small so don't be surprised if you need 2+ to prevent midnight snacking. Have I mentioned the sangria yet? Brunch | I came back the next day for Sunday jazz brunch, since wait times were crazy everywhere else. It's a cool concept and the band playing that day was great. The Kate crepes were fantastic and I paired mine with a small-but-packed mimosa carafe. However, we ran into the same problem with waiting around FOREVER for our food and checks. Had I not been happily buzzed, I probably would've said something about it. 3.5/5 overall. Great food/wine, not so great service, but still a business I want to stick around. read more

I spent two hellish years in Lubbock (hey, try being a Democrat in West Texas). I can't say there is much that I really miss from Texas. La Diosa is one of the rare exceptions. We went to La Diosa for my fiancé's graduation from Texas Tech (Masters in cell and molecular biology). We had one of the best evenings of my life dancing and listening to music with his two octogenarian grandmothers. One got up and danced so vigorously that I could have sworn she was gonna break a hip. Every member of the family had a great time taking in some good jazz, good wine, and the really funky and eclectic atmosphere. When my fiancé and I were especially poor (which was a hallmark of our time in Lubbock), we would pay the cover charge and listen to music but only order water. That sounds like a stupid thing to do at a wine bar, but we're weirdos. So sue me. Anyway, even the water in this place is superb - they serve it in a resealable carafe so you can refill your own drinks. It was seriously the cleanest, most pure water that has ever hit my tongue. Fun and busy are two words I would use to describe this quirky wine room. With little to no knowledge of Lubbock, I was excited to learn they not only had a wine tasting room, but actual wine cellars that produce their own wine. Located in The Depot district, La Diosa is among (or what seems to be) the hip spots in The Hub City, and is evident in it's super quirky interior with loud and eclectic decor. With a wide variety of seating from couches to bar seating, I felt accommodated instantly and chose the couch as my wine sipping locale. The space is rather large and open with high ceilings, you almost forget you're in an intimate, charming wine room; however the super stellar service makes you feel as if you're the only customer in the room. The server, as I mentioned, was attentive and polite, while the wine wasn't my favorite. I believe if I took more time to navigate wine menu I would have found something more to my liking. You see, it wasn't their fault I ordered a more lighter, sweet wine instead of my preferred full bodied wines. Indeed, the wine list is extensive and I panic-ordered a Pinot Noir (not my fave type of red). When I find myself back in Lubbock, I am definitely returning to La Diosa! read more

I've been to La Diosa a couple of times, most recently last night, where I was able to hear (loud and clear) the 'Alan Sorsbee' bit that Jefe R likes to tell about mic checks at another spot downtown back in the day. This place, such as it is, is a stylish and eclectic hodge-podge of cheerfully mismatched furniture, loads of local wine selections, some Italian tapas fare, and charm. You get the distinct impression spending a little time here that this spot is a regular hang for most who were in this night, and staff was friendly and attentive. Do catch them on a live music night, as there's something especially great about hearing a little West Texas song drift through the air while you gnosh on some pizza and vino. There's a reason my friends bring me back, because the open arms of this place never wax twee, and the easy smiles of those inside tell you that's exactly the way it should be. read more

"Meh." Couldn't have summed it up better myself. I truly enjoy wine and cheese, but the "cheese and fruit" platter leaves a lot to be desired. If I wanted to get cheap chunk cheese and grapes, I would do it myself by going to United and buying the cheapest stuff they have. The cheese was not artisan, the fruit was fine, but the price was not. Additionally, I tried to go there in the early evening (around 5 p.m.) and was told that they don't serve anyone with babies in carseats. For a nonsmoking wine place, I thought, "huh?" I was with a party of several other 30-something couples and the place was empty. I won't go back - instead I'll just buy some cardbordeaux and $1.78 Food Club cheese and stay at home with my inconvenient children. read more

I have lived in the Mediterranean so I'm suspect of places in West Texas who claim they make food of that region. La Diosa isn't lying. Their food is full of great, authentic flavor. I am so so pleased. I had a glass of the Garancha wine and it was perfectly dry with very subtle fruit notes. Love love love. A friend had a glass of Bella Rosa that was a perfect rosé, not a disgusting sweet swill like sorority girls are notorious for drinking, but sweetish and bright. This place has been in my bookmarks forever, and I'm so glad we came tonight. I had the escargot tapa and the garlic sauce on it was Delightful. Escargot has been on my bucket list for a hot minute, I loved it. It was complex and interesting. A dining partner got Marina, a shrimp tapa and it was also very good and smartly seasoned. For our main courses we got Diego's Torta, the tomato bisque, their Clásico Caprese, and risotto. The only thing I didn't try was the risotto, but it all smelled heavenly. Diego's Torta is a lot of meat, but incredible quality charcuterie. The tomato bisque is maybe a bit strong to have a whole bowl of, but so very flavorful. I had the Clásico Caprese and though it was simple, it was well done. We also had some sort of rich chocolate torte that was decadent and fabulous. I plan to come back and bring friends. read more

This is a classy place. It's the kind of place you'd like to go on a date with someone you wanted to impress. There aren't a whole lot of viable options to do that in Lubbock. It's got moderately adventurous food for West Texas - exploring a little bit of Spanish flare by serving tapas. They also offer Paninis at lunchtime and pizza for those who don't stray from food they know. The desert delivers, but doesn't offer anything particularly novel. The art on the wall can turn the romantic mood off from time to time, the wine is decent but not decadent, and the last time I went they served my Ceviche with crackers. Also, they have a cover some nights because of live music. While this is pretty good, try and sit in the back room if you plan on having decent conversation without having to shout. read more

Every time I come here, I leave so happy. The hummus trio this time was my favorite. While the beet hummus may seem like an obvious front runner, the true star is the basil mint combo. Save yourself the trouble and go ahead and order the pitcher of Sangria. It goes down so easy, you won't even realize you've had 4 glasses. Some other favorites are the besitos, the empanadas, and the general ambiance. A couple tips- the service can be a little slow, so order enough to keep you occupied for a while. Additionally, they do live music which is always so good! But they will add $10 to your tab if you stay to watch it, so go early to save some dough. I don't know, I just never got into this place! I have been there several times, but it always seemed a little pretentious for a sleepy little place like Lubbock. They have nice food as far as I can tell, and the wine is always good. Their menu is definitely different than what you find commonly in the LBK. They support the local art scene, and have live music sometimes, which is really nice. There's really no reason for me to not like the place, but I just feel kind of 'meh' about it. We never really made it one of our regular spots. It's probably cause my husband doesn't do well with wine, so I never thought about it when we would go out. At any rate, there's no reason for me to write anything bad about this place, and I know a lot of people really like it, so I'm giving it three stars. read more
