Love this place! Great tapas and amazing wine selection! We went in yesterday for some sangria and tapas. They were understaffed and the servers worked UBER hard to ensure that we were all taken care of. They did this with a smile on their faces even though you could tell that they were running around the WHOLE time. La Diosa has a unique interior--cozy, romantic, and dark, with an eclectic mix of stuff accented with twinkle lights. The pitcher of Sangria was excellent! Not too sweet, a little bit sparkling....totally wonderful, and extremely reasonable (I want to say it was $15 for the pitcher?). They offer a nice selection of small plates, which I love, but, unfortunately, I found most of the ones we tried disappointing. Marina: Shrimp with saffron, smoked paprika, sherry, parsley, and butter. Bland, to the point that we sent them back. Bella Corina: Described as chimichurri shrimp, but totally flavorless. I think it was these that were served cold (it was either these or the Marina), but either way, it was unexpected, and I seriously wish they would have noted it on the menu. Alfredo Jose: Extremely simple--just Mancheo and thinly sliced chorizo served with fig-orange jame, Marcona almons, and bread. About what you'd expect...it was fine, but not exciting. Roberto: Chopped mushrooms in a sherry and wine vinegar marinade with herbs. They were unexpectedly cold, but once we got over that, they were tasty--piquant with lots of different spices. Besitos: Halved jalapenos, fire roasted, topped with bacon, and smothered in cheese. I suppose it's not possible that such a combination of food would not be tasty. Albondigas de Madrid: These were the first item recommended by our server. They were spectacular. Savory and meaty, tender and flavorful, in a Marsala wine sauce that was just the slightly bit sweet. By far my favorite of the things we tried. Loved the sangria and the meatballs, but could've lived with just about everything else. If I'm ever back in Lubbock, I think I'll try something new. read more

Inventive small plates based on various Mediterranean influences, local and nationally respected wines, seating in relaxed sofas and chairs or bistro tables/chairs. Live jazz, blues, or soul music most nights. This place would fit in just as easily in San Francisco, NY, Dallas, or any major city as it does in Lubbock. read more

What a fantastic Mediterranean gem that Lubbock has on our hands in this place. This is a perfect venue for a romantic but laid back and affordable date or a large group of friends and/or co-workers looking to have fun while enjoying a phenomenal culinary experience. For the ignorant on Spanish Tapas, as I recently was, tapas are not a specific menu item but an indication of a smaller plate. This lends itself towards many small dishes that are shared across the meal participants. Such a format induces intimacy and communion: hence my point above about how this is a great place for dates or groups. In the case of my meal, my wife and I shared the Albondiga De Madrid and Risotto Mi Lalita. The former dish had me hooked at "meatballs." The fact that ground beef was infused with flavor with onion, garlic, jalapeno and Marsala Wine sauce certainly did not hurt either. This particular dish was delightful: full of rich flavor and appropriately spicy but not overwhelmingly so. The Risotto is one of my wife's favorite dishes and the first thing she tries at a new place if she sees it on the menu. From my perspective, the creamy rice was luxuriant with a rich butter and garlic flavor. The artichoke hearts complemented this dish quite well. The food here is wonderful as is the environment which I would summarize as a vintage and rustic yet comfortable Lubbock downtown eating experience. We really just came to see a friend's band play on a Saturday night, but wow, what a great place! The decor and menu make for a classy but relaxed atmosphere. Loved it! I was in Lubbock for a weekend visiting a friend who lives there. We went to La Diosa for lunch (before hitting the wine tasting room across the street). I enjoyed the decor, it's funky and eclectic, but artful. The service was good and the food terrific. I had a salad as well as a small pizza margarita and a key lime pie dessert. Really good! The term "tapas" has come to mean just about anything served in appetizer or small plate sizes... you'll see "tapas" marketed at Korean, German, Mexican/Chinese and even Uzbekistani restaurants. Most of the Spanish tapas places I have visited have faded into memory. Fortunately, La Diosa still serves excellent tapas dishes with an interesting wine menu. The venue is funky and as mentioned elsewhere a bit quirky, but fun. The Lorena consists of empanadas with a twist, a touch of raisins in addition to the ancho chili beef filling. Angelina is an onion marmalade with goat cheese and prosciutto, imaginative and tasty. The wine list, though limited, compliments the menu well. Only drawback: there was live music at 8:30 PM, and we would be charged an additional $5 PP if we were still there at that time. read more

I had a social occasion for a booking of six. The atmosphere was unique and much valued. Food was agreeable for four stars but the wait staff dragged this rating to a one star. In a course of 3 hours, we saw our server twice. On one of those occasions I attempted to place the order for my main tapa with a request of a simple ingredient being removed, like cheese, and instead of being able to order I was discouraged from choosing the plate. Primer to my visit I did see that this place was high recommend based on prier reviews and ended up being highly disappointed. read more

This restaurant is really a hidden gem in Lubbock. The atmosphere and ambiance in the restaurant takes you to another place- I honestly forgot that I was in downtown Lubbock. The wait staff is very helpful and friendly, and are willing to answer any questions about the menu. I do agree that the prices are higher than usual, but that's what you get when you order food from a restaurant that serves authentic Spanish-style food! Your plates will be smaller entrees than the average entree at a chain restaurant, but the quality of the food here is so much higher. You are paying for food made with fresh ingredients and herbs and spices. If you are looking for a new restaurant in Lubbock that offers a change in atmosphere and quality food, come to La Diosa! read more

La Diosa is my go to for a relaxing girls night. Any time I have a friend come in town, it's at the top of my "OMG YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS" list. The Sangria is so great. It's a great deal to split with a friend... or not. ;) When I'm feeling extra "treat myself" I love to indulge in the dark chocolate cake or coconut cake. I haven't had many of the tapas because I usually go for after dinner dessert and drinks. Some times it can get kind of loud with the live music, but it's always great tunes! read more

I went here once for dinner and just recently for their first sunday of the month brunch. The dinner was fantastic. I enjoyed all of the plates (we just got a lot of tapas plates), and the sangria pitcher was a lovely touch. I am giving three stars as an average of my two visits there. My dinner was great, my brunch was average. OK BRUNCH REVIEW: My meal was good, but it came out about 10 minutes after everyone else in my party (I was a party of 4, nothing crazy). So that was really annoying. I ordered coffee when I ordered my meal, and while that came out in good time, it took maybe 5 minutes to get cream and sugar. Then I never got a refill on my coffee, which was really annoying (they eventually removed the coffee from my bill, but I would have preferred to have good service than just removing the coffee). I thought the band was good, but they were incredibly loud for such a small space. Maybe just an acoustic jazz guitar would be good for such a small area. I definitely would like to go back since they are one of the few "non-chain" restaurants in Lubbock, but I will probably go back for dinner and find another place in Lubbock for brunch. Oh, and they don't have a military discount, which always makes me disappointed. read more

We only come here for the pitcher of house sangria!! The sangria tastes great and the pitcher is the best deal here! They do have live music here on weekends with a $5 cover so it's nice to enjoy. If the kitchen hasn't closed yet then we will sometimes get one of the snack platters that comes with meats, cheeses and fruit. I did also try some meatball sub but honestly the bread was so hard I couldn't even bite into it so that sucked. read more

Expensive , I would say pretty close to three dollar signs. Ordered a tapa, half jalapeños with shrimp, cheese and bacon. Also had a sangria. I wasn't particularly blown away by either. Would love to review the food, but.... after being seated and given water and menues, it went south! After 4 full songs and 1/2 way through the 5th, still no waiter. ( live music, wish I had caught his name, very entertaining!) we saw our "server" once, but were unable to catch his attention . Apparently it helps to be a table of 3 attractive sorority types ! Scanning the restaurant , I finally spotted our server. Wait for it. Wait for it.... ON HIS SMARTPHONE ! We were never acknowledged as we left. Walked around the corner to Triple J and enjoyed as fine a filet as I've had in a long time. Returned afterwards, again never acknowledged, to tip the musician. I recently went to La Diosa with a group of co-workers. We prebooked a day in advance (important point as you will see shortly). We arrived promptly at noon and were the first ones inside. Our waiter took our drink order and everyone requested water. 30 - 45 minutes later we still hadn't received water or seen the waiter again. A waitress came and apologized for the 'delay' then she sat us up with our drinks and took our orders. The orders trickled out at a snail's pace. One lady finished her dish before anyone else got theirs. Then, two more came out. I'd guess they were able to turn out maybe two every 15 mins. We sat there fully three hours before the last person got and was able to finish her meal. The food is just ok. Certainly not worth the prices they charge. I ordered a panini which was essentially ham and cheese with a piece of a chili chucked on. When we went to pay they had the audacity to tack on a 20% large group surcharge. Needless to say, I won't be going back. Ever. read more

Love this place. A Lubbock favorite. You almost forget where you are when you walk in. Definitely gets loud when there's live music, and there can be a cover. So I'd go earlier or avoid those nights. Not the fastest service, but it's a slow-paced atmosphere, so I'm fine with taking my time and having great conversation with friends. All the food is fantastic, I particularly like their Lada Diosa enchiladas, the Tapendas y Queso de Cabra, crostinis with three spreads, and the Angelina, baguettes with goat cheese, onion marmalade and proscuitto. This was a great find in Lubbock, Texas! A coworker and I split several tapas and just generally had a great time in this small spanish restaurant and wine bar. We were pleased to discover a nice local wine, and the food was incredible. The pizetta we enjoyed had a lavosh-like crust and was topped with dried mango, plums and apricots. It was amazing. I went there with my 23-year-old daughter this past weekend, and while the place was beautifully decorated and the small plates of food were tasty, it was overpriced. The restaurant states that it has an extensive wine list, but I found this not to be true. Not one Merlot on the list at all. When I asked for further descriptions of other wines on the list, the waitress got the resident expert for us, who basically just parroted the descriptions that were provided on the menu. This wasn't helpful at all, and they are unable to provide samples of the wine. So, we went with one of the cheaper bottles of wine on the menu, $42, and it was just ok. Nothing I'd ever order again. Found out later is was a $19.99 bottle you could buy elsewhere. I understand that restaurants must include an upcharge on bottles of wine, but does it have to be more than double the retail price? Ridiculous! Then, at the end of the meal, instead of providing us with the bill, the server stood next to the table with her I-pad telling us the amount owed. I gave her my credit card, and she returned the I-pad to me to select the tip percentage while she stood there watching over us, which was a little weird to say the least. She then asked if I wanted a copy of the bill. Of course I wanted a copy of the bill since she never gave me the opportunity to review it before I paid! It wasn't until the next morning that I had the chance to look at the bill, and I was very surprised that I had been charged a $10.00 fee for the live entertainment. Never did anyone tell us that there is a $5.00 per person cover charge for the enjoyment of listening to the female guitar player singing mellow songs in the corner. This information should have been revealed up front so people can decide to stay or go, instead of slipping it in as a surprise charge at the bottom of the bill. To make matters worse, the 20% tip I opted to give to the server also included a 20% tip on the $10.00 cover charge, as well as the $12.00 tax! Normally, people pay the tip on the cost of the food and drinks, not the cover charge and tax. I hope the server appreciated the larger than intended tip I gave her. So, while we enjoyed the flavors of the food, I am left with a bad taste in my mouth since I feel deceived by the restaurant's undisclosed cover charge, the pre-selected tip options that automatically include a tip on the cover charge and tax, and the highway robbery upcharge on a very mediocre bottle of wine. read more
