The Candele Spezzate con Tagu Napoletano was so unique and delicious as well. The pasta soaks up the heavenly spare rib ragu. Yum! Lovely staff and atmosphere as well. This place was unfortunately subpar. The staff and bartender were nice, but the food was disappointing. I got the ragu, and my sister got the butternut squash pasta. When the ragu came to me, the pasta was undercooked, not even al dente. The pasta was almost crunchy. I hate doing this, but I sent it back and asked for it to be cooked through. When it came back to me, this time the pasta was actually al dente, but it still wasn't very pleasant to eat. The sauce itself was not very flavorful. Additionally, the butternut squash pasta was okay. I thought the texture of the sauce was a bit gritty (kind of like mashed beans), and it was just fine. I came to try out their lunch tasting menu. The oval was in a separate area from the more casual seating inside La Devozione. The waitress was nice and explained the dishes. All the seats were at the counter and you could watch chefs cooking your food. The lunch tasting menu had 4 pasta courses and a dessert. - The bread stick and cookie was ok, the bread with olive oil was not warm. - The first course was really good, but I forgot the name. - The second course was lemon pasta, which had good texture but was a tad salty for me. - The third course was a ragu pasta, you could pick seafood or pork belly with the ragu. I picked seafood and got octopus and squid. The flavor was nice, but the texture was a little bit hard, but it could be that I prefer my pasta on a softer side. - The last pasta course was a tomato pasta. I was somewhat full at this point so I didn't enjoy it as much as previous courses. Besides, the previous course (the ragu) was pretty tomato-y, so this course was overshadowed by the former. I hope they would switch to some other sauce flavors for this 4th one. - The dessert was mille-feuille with orange cream. It was so flaky and refreshing, definitely a good choice after heavy dishes like pasta. The meal was $105 before taxes and tips. Chelsea Market has food for tourists, food that is very good, and few establishments that offer both. La Devozione was very good, so.. definitely the latter, and will probably become the former as time goes on as it gains traction with the public. La Devozione has some Eataly vibes, but a bit less commercial and a bit cozier, but the same gimmick of an Italian lifestyle kitchen houseware and pasta shop seamlessly interwoven with a restaurant. Personally I think they do it better, there's a bit more charm and personality to the joint, it hits a good blend of sweet Italian grandmother and modern 2022 interior aesthetic. We tried a couple apps and four pastas: the classic spaghetti, the ziti with the genovese beef and onion sauce, the linguine with the anchovy sauce, the bucatini with the tomato pork cheek sauce. They were all very very tasty. The pasta texture was nice, with a really nice sauce to complement; it was hard to pick a favorite. However the table seemed to prefer the linguine and the ziti; mine personally was the ziti but the bucatini probably a close second. Surprisingly the namesake spaghetti, though very good, was not the star of the show- a bit tart and slightly less depth of flavor compared to the other dishes ordered. The drinks were also cute; I got the first one on the menu and mine came with a straw made of pasta which was adorable!! (Sad I missed this photo) All in all would go again. We came here yesterday morning at around 9am. We ordered a cappuccino and some pastries from the guy at the front of the store. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to go inside the store?? Odd. Especially since the interior look intriguing. The pastries were pretty stale and the person went back into the store to make our cappuccinos and left us out there just standing in silence like whaaaat? It was pretty awkward. A bit confused how this place ended up on the Michelin guide. Could they have just had an off day? Came here for a Sunday lunch at the oval. Lovely space and sheltered away from the hustle and bustle of Chelsea market. I tried the candele rotte a mare (octopus, squid, sea asparagus, cuttlefish ink) and the Millerighe faraona e peperone arrosto (guinea fowl and red pepper). Both dishes were too Al dente to the point that pieces were getting stuck in my teeth - I feel it was bit underdone. There was nothing special about the flavors in the candele rotte a mare; got a hint of seafood there but couldn't really make out any of the flavors. The Guinea fowl pasta was a mistake, the meat was tough and hard to eat. There was a piece of skin that may have been torched, but to the point where, inside of your mouth, it left a sticky film that water couldn't wash away. The red pepper sauce was simply puréed pepper with out much taste of anything else. Bottom line is there are plenty of Italian places in New York.. read more

This is a hidden gem at the moment. My guess is they'll be receiving Michelin stars soon. Would recommend trying this place sooner rather than later. Eating here feels like you're eating gourmet pasta from Italy! The restaurant is super clean and located inside Chelsea market. All the dishes are presented in a creative and aesthetically pleasing way. The plating was unique for each dish and all the pastas were yummy! Came to La Devozione on a Friday night and tried the tasting menu. Guests are seated at the semi circle table in the middle of the restaurant at Chelsea Market, there are also regular dining seats. Cocktail choices are very good as are the wines by the glass. What's served are small portions of pasta as well as bread, bread sticks and desert. The pasta is made right in front of the guests. The plating and glasses are fun and the service is very attentive and friendly. Pasta is all al dente served. Coffee is served in individual moka coffee pots that are steamed in front of you. The chairs swivel but also topple so some care is needed when sitting. The bathrooms are unisex and small and can get messy but generally ok. One star for the uniqueness of the layouts and decorations, one star for the waiter of the day, then there is no then. We came to Chelsea market on a busy Monday during spring break week for some quality father-daughter time. After a whole morning of window shopping and desserts at the Hudson yard mall and a walk on the Highline, we ended up searching for some Italian food as it is my daughter's favorite. La Devozione is a hybrid store/restaurant that both sells pasta and other Italian goods but also serves Italian cuisine. Given how busy at the time of the day was, we nevertheless have gotten seats relatively quick. My 9 years old daughter and I chose a Lollipop Di Macaron for appetizer, Bucatini all' Amatriciano, and Candele Spezzate con Ragu. The macaroni was rolled into a ball shape and fried golden to a crunch with a coat of panko/breadcrumbs. It was satisfactory but nothing original. The pork cheek meat spaghetti was flavorful, al dente on the pasta, and my daughter enjoyed it. The problem was with the ragu. The sauce for the dish was great, the beef short rib meat was tender, but the pasta was just terrible. The pasta used was hollow tubes approximately 5 inches long. I lack the knowledge on the proper name for these. Anyway, just after a few bite, I noticed that these were undercooked with many white spots in the cross section as raw dough. The dish was returned for replacement. Roughly 10 mins later, our waiter returned with a new dish. I bite into it and guess what the pasta was still undercooked the same way. And what's worst was that the portion was smaller than before. I can over look the smaller portion, but how would you explain the pasta? To add salt to the wound, a 20% gratuity was mandatory. This is a place that sells Italian goods, cooks Italian dishes, but can't figure out al dente? Whatever, we will not return in the future. read more

This place is AMAZING!!! The definition of pasta cooked Al dente is down to a perfection here. Each bite brought me back to a family dinner in a small Napoli home. Wow, this was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in NY. We ordered the penne, rosmarino ceci gamberi, tolfette salsiccia. All 3 of these pastas were undercooked, the most egregious one being the penne. It was so undercooked that every bite was crunchy. The only way to describe this dinner is a gastronomic experience. The staff is friendly and welcoming. You feel like their favorite guest from the moment you enter. The hostess, waitstaff and chefs all go out of their way to make the restaurant inviting. My husband and I ate at the oval, and ordered the five course tasting menu. We also ordered two different types of wine. The pasta was cooked perfectly Al dente, and the sauces and presentations were creative and delicious. Watching the two chefs work their magic in the kitchen was a real treat. In between preparing the food, they are happy to converse with the patrons seated at the oval counter surrounding them. Went a few weeks ago and had the tasting menu - the food was excellent, and my favorite was probably the vermicelli. While a 9-course pasta marathon might sound a bit daunting, the variety in each dish kept it interesting, and the portions were appropriately sized. The setting was also pretty unique, with the giant oval bar/counter letting you see how the food is prepared.
