It pains me not to give LaConner a 5, I really really wanted to because I had such a love affair with the place when I visited 7 years or so ago, but it just isn't as I remembered it. The food was good, not great. I had shrimp tacos and they were good, not great. My wife liked the mushroom pizza, but it wasn't worth the price. Beer should be less expensive at the place of origin, but pints were $4.50. The beer seems to have gone downhill too. I believe the head brewer has changed since, which might explain it, but the beer was thin and lacked that awesome LaConner body I remember. The brewery used to put out some of the finest beer in Washington (the Dry hopped IPA was famous in beer geek circles). But I was non-plussed. read more

Stopped for Saturday lunch. Ordered chicken quesadilla, wife ordered Chinese chicken salad. The salad, however, had chicken pieces that were rubbery, cold and tasted uncooked. The were the type that comes frozen, sliced pre-grilled, but something wrong happened to it on prep. Wife didn't eat a single piece of chicken but we were hungry so ate the greens. When the waitress came to the table to ask how everything was, we told her the chicken was inedible. She said she was sorry and if there is anything she could do. We asked for the check. She gave us the check. We asked her to warn the kitchen that they are serving uncooked chicken. She told us she sees them cook the chicken every morning. Wa paid, we tipped, we left. We will not stop here again. The food was bad, and the way they dealt with our feedback was a red flag. read more

If you're really hungry or in a hurry, don't waste your time. The only thing this restaurant does quickly is clean tables so the next sucker can come in and wait an hour + for their food to be delivered. My family and I (a party of 4) went in on a Monday afternoon, which you'd think would be on the slower side. I ordered a cup of clam chowder and a meal - the clam chowder never came, and I had to ask for it when the meal arrived. We saw our waitress 2-3 times, max. All of the service staff looked like they were spinning their wheels and getting nowhere, but the bus boys (as far as I could tell there were 3 of them) circled tables like vultures - in fact, it was a bus boy who brought us our bill! On several occasions I saw other tables asking the wait staff when their food would be arriving, which means this was happening to everyone, not just my family. This is a nice little pub nestled in the heart of La Conner. It is really within walking distance of everything in town. We were wandering around rather late looking for dinner (well 8pm - late for La Conner) and were glad to find the Brewing Company still open. Plus bonus - the football game was on! The beers were pretty good, as was the chicken quesadilla. We also tried a wood fired pizza and I was impressed - soft chewy crust with just enough crunch on the bottom, and very fresh toppings. A trip to the Skagit Valley and La Conner is a favorite day trip from Seattle for my husband and me. Winding through the country roads, seeing bald eagles, visiting farm stands, and landing in La Conner for lunch is winning way to spend a Saturday or Sunday, esp in the off season. And no trip to La Conner would be complete without lunch and a beer or two at La Conner Brewing. Great food, beer, and service, all in a cozy spot with plenty of room. The staff are friendly, efficient, and make sure you're well cared for. The wood-fired oven turns out yummy stuff like pizza, nachos and foccacia, and the menu is rounded out with great apps and sandwiches. They were open and that is a plus when it is getting dark and you are really hungry. Food is 4 star for sure, the service was 3+, but a composite might be a real strong 3 star. I absolutely love the beer here (IPA is a must try!) This time I got the pale ale and the porter, both great! The food is ok but I've had better; I mostly come here for the beer. This time I got the steak panini that's served with au jus. I forgot to ask for no horseradish so I didn't like it as much as I could have. Came here on a whim after going to the Tulip Festival a short distance away. The first thing the waitress said after she took the drink order was that food times were running at about half an hour and suggested a chips and salsa because would come out right away. Way to upsell. We went for it because we were starving but it took two beers 10 minutes to come, the chips and salsa 20 minutes, and two burgers forty minutes. I really wanted to like everything but just found it hard. I tried two different beers over the course of the meal and found both of them to be almost creamy... that was the best word my boyfriend and I could come up with for them. The burgers were very dry and almost flavorless. The potato wedges (seriously, a potato cut into huge wedges, not like fast food wedges) were decent. The chips and salsa were the standard fare. I think we saw our waitress maybe 3, 4, times and had to flag her down for the check. I don't know if it was slow because of all the Tulip Festival traffic, but seems to me that the Festival happens every year and a little extra staffing/preparation would go a long way to help out. read more

I love root beer and whenever a brew house has root beer that they make in house I make a point of trying it . They do and I did. It was the most awful root beer that I ever tasted. I told our server what I thought of it and she explained that people either love or hate it. So apparently there are people out there who love the taste of dirty socks with a nice sharp swampy aftertaste.I dare you to try it. It probably wont kill you and love or hate it it will be a taste you will not soon forget. The cheeseburger I had here was alright and the service was good. Our Everett group of friends headed up North to view some tulips and enjoy the sunshine in La Conner. We worried that it would be hard to seat our 6 top in that "brunch hour" and had our fingers crossed that we beat any groups that were heading out to eat after church or other groups that had our same 'eat before tulips' approach... we found La Conner Brewing Company just as they were opening at 11:30am (thank goodness because it was packed soon after we place out order). Amazing fresh and local food- not what you expect of a pub/bar/brewery. Three of us ordered the shrimp tacos and voted it best dish although the butternut squash quesadillas and clam chowder were strong competition. We will be back!! read more
