La Colombe is my favorite coffee shop in nyc, hands down. The ambience and vibe of the cafe upon walking in is like no others regardless fo location. Every employee is knowledgeable and so efficient. Lines get long, but I'm never left wiating more than 5min, as they will take your order before you get to the paying point. Once you pay, your drink will be out within minutes. My go to is always the almond cappuccino in the winter months and the cold brew in the summerS. Both are so delicious and especially well made. They never sacrifice on quality, and I've been to many of their locations in the states Phenomenal brand and coffee, and I love that I can pick up thei products at Whole Foods and other convenience stores around the city! read more

I found it to be your usual coffee shop. Drip coffees espressos, lattes, etc. They also have a few pastries ie. cinnamon rolls and scones ( the hard triangular type ). I got the drip coffees the Corsica and Mexican Sierra Sur . I found them to be well roasted but the flavour to me was a little too acidic. It was similar to your cheaper grocery store coffee. La Colombe in Blagden is a great place to 'tuck away' and catch up with a friend over coffee. Expensive yes, but if you're at all familiar with the brand, you should already know what to expect. During COVID, they've done a great job pivoting to a grab-n-go service with things really well thought out. Their frequent updates, photos and even additions to their website really keeps sometimes-coffee-drinkers like me informed. Nowadays, it's so difficult to know what to expect when visiting a place you've never been or visit infrequently, so it helps reduce that first time/holding up the line anxiety lol. Came here for a coffee to go with my gluten-free cookie from seylou. They don't have decaf in drip so got a decaf americano. Also bought my niece a hot chocolate. Staff was very nice and they did a great job. The hot chocolate was awesome. The American was good but not perfect (just slightly burnt, but not star bucks burnt). I am a fan. The first time I experience La Colombe Coffee it was a gift from my roommate! So the only thing I had to judge off of it was the coffee. She surprised me with a black and tan and I was hooked. The combination of cold brew to cream was fantastic! Recently I decided to go to the La Colombe location in Shaw and it met all of my wildest dreams. The space was open, clean, and cute. The person helping me was nice and kind and my order was ready at the end of the bar in less than 5 minutes. This time I opted for the black and oat milk because dairy free and it was fantastic! The size of the drink was great, it was more than I was expecting and it was a great bang for my buck. The atmosphere was all put together by the music. The playlist was fantastic! Aside from their amazing coffee drinks, probably one of the best hot chocolates I've tried in town. It was my first time trying La Colombe hot chocolate and I totally loved the fact that it comes unsweetened (unless specified), that gives me the freedom to control how much sugar I want going into my drink which is nice as most hot chocolates are too sweet. It also allows you to really appreciate the richness of chocolate itself. Highly recommended! read more

This location seems more legit because it's inside the alley! Look the red bricks on the outside look. We were here for the Holiday night market, and decided to stop by for a cup of hot chocolate. The price is reasonable. I am glad the cashier told us that the hot cocoa is unsweetened. However, once they made it we can add syrup to it. Once you placed your order, you slide down the bar and wait for your beverage. They put a plate and spoon at the standing bar for you to fix your beverage and the service was very quick. Truly great coffee! I love this particular store because it's tucked away in Blagden Alley and is the cutest DC location! Inside there's lots of pretty exposed brick and a few small tables to sit down and enjoy a drink or bite to eat. Another option is to take your coffee and walk around Blagden Alley and see all the colorful murals. Only con is that when it's busy on weekends, the narrow space is crowded and it's hard to walk around or get a seat. I usually get the draft back and tan. But today I tried the draft oat milk latte (cold) and it was so smooth and delicious. I highly recommend giving the oat milk latte a try! They also have a small selection of canned lattes like pumpkin, vanilla, original, etc. in case you want to grab some for later. Closest metro is Mount Vernon (green/yellow), but Metro Center (red line)is a short 12 minute walk. read more

So that is how two coffee snobs end up at La Colombe a lot. I am never disappointed with this cute Philadelphia based coffee house in Blagden Alley. It may frustrate people that they have no menu. Just think of bare bones coffee and espresso. Pick a roast for a cup of coffee, or think of a simple espresso drink: lattes, mochas, americanos. Forget the syrups, soy, almond or coconut milk, they do not have that. From what I hear they do have hemp milk, which is amazing cause I didn't know hemp had nipples. What they do have is great espresso, with a fantastic aroma, cute instagramable latte art and the type of glassware and plates I want to steal. I love the mochas here, and you should be warned it's made with unsweetened cocoa so it needs sugar, which is a hundred times better than the super sweet chocolate syrups other places use. They offer numerous pastries and croissants. It's a great spot to grab a table (if you can) and sit for a few and people watch. read more

This is a little coffee shop off of the beaten path down an alley. Yet, the word is clearly out as the place was packed each of three times I went there during my week in DC. As a non-coffee drinker, the options were very limited. They don't have a visible menu, but apparently, they can make most requests for coffee drinks. Unfortunately, that's not the case for coffee-free drinks. All they offer is hot chocolate (and perhaps tea according to another yelper), which tasted very milky and lacked any real cacao or chocolate flavor. And, to make matters worse, they don't have whipped cream. After the first time I went, I began asking for more chocolate and less milk. The barista offered to make a smaller size, which would require less milk. That really didn't seem to make it taste any better. The third time, the barista asked if I wanted it sweetened. Thinking that may help, I agreed...it didn't. Had I not been in town for a conference and had I not needed a place to have a few meetings, and had La Colombe not been conveniently located to both my hotel and to the Convention Center, I would not have gone back after the first time. The hot chocolate was terrible and the cinnamon roll was cold and hard. But, my companions seemed to really enjoy the coffee. So, if you're a coffee drinker and you're looking for a cute place to meet a few friends or to relax during the day, you may enjoy this place. read more

I, being of broken internal compass, somehow managed to drag my sorry sleep-deprived butt to this location after wandering around a bit through the small alleyway to this shop. I strolled in. There is no menu. OK, I see this is going to be "that" kind of a coffee shop. I ask the cashier tentatively, "I'm looking to order an iced latte. What flavors would you recommend?" The cashier has an awkward look on his face, hesitates, and answers "We don't offer any syrups and we only have different milk choices." OK.... Further confirming my suspicion about the pretentious nature of this place. "Well I'll have the iced latte with almond milk then." "Dark or medium roast?" Oooh. I've never been asked that question before. I chose the dark roast. It was made in a short amount of time and I was shortly out the door and off to a class I was taking nearby. It was truly a perfect iced latte, with a deep flavor and creaminess and damned if I'll be that I didn't actually need any sort of extra syrup to muck up the flavor of the latte. It looked to be about what a "medium" size would be at other coffee places and was $4.50. Although the vibe here is definitely coffee snob galore, they know the fine art of preparing these roasted beans in drinks! There were absolutely NO seats or ledges available. We waited 20 minutes for a ledge... A majority of the clientele were extremely rude and/or pretentious. Several people stole stools and chairs for the sole purpose of stashing their handbags or coats on them, when clearly there is a need for shared-space in this minimal area... There is a long, never-ending line of people ordering coffee "for here". Everyone had an annoying "I'm-SO-trendy-and-hip-for-hanging-out-in-a-local-coffeeshop" facade going on. The people working there weren't friendly. No smiles. All around no one cared about anything. Small coffee shops are nice. But bad manners are not. We stopped here while on vacation in DC. The location is in a cool spot in an alley with lots brick and murals. My vanilla latte was delicious and beautiful. The draft latte was ok--my husband wishes it was colder as it was more lukewarm but the flavor and consistency was different and he liked that, but probably won't order again. The croissant pastries were delicious, but they don't warm any of their food for you so that was a small disappointment that would have made the food experience better. I usually don't give a coffee shop in DC a 5 star rating if there is not wifi, but La Colombe is the one exception. There are several reasons for this: 1) It's in a GREAT neighborhood in DC- Blagden Alley. If you haven't made it there yet, go! It feels like NYC and has a lot of history and quickly becoming the foodie center in DC with restaurants like Table and Rogue 24 nearby. 2) The atmosphere is great! One of the walls is all glass and opens to the outside during the summer time. Despite this, the AC still keeps you cool if you sit inside. 3) The coffee is amazing! The owner Todd Carmichael is a genuine guy who travels the world finding the best coffee around the world directly from the source (Check out his show on the Travel Channel "Dangerous Grounds."). 4) There's a lot of seating during the week and the fact that they don't have wifi is kind of refreshing. Since the atmosphere is so inspiring, go here, get an iced latte with sweetened condensed milk, and read a good book. Your life will be better because of it. read more

As someone who lives in California, I'm only familiar with La Colombe because of the draft cans they sell at Trader Joe's. So when I was visiting DC for work and saw a La Colombe within walking distance to where I was staying, I knew I had to make a stop. La Colombe is what you'd a expect a hip coffee joint to look like. I ordered a draft latte with oat milk and needless to say, it was great. They don't add ice to it, so that was a bit odd. I admit that when my husband said he wanted to check our La Colombe, I almost rolled my eyes because he is the Biggest fan of Todd Carmichael's 'Dangerous Grounds'. BUT, travel to this place we did. -Cappuccino- "really good" was all I could muster out of the hubs, as he was dipping his croissant into his cappuccino. -Latte- I'm no coffee connoisseur and the cashier absolutely gave me the "are you crazy look?" (Politely of course), when I asked for soy and decaf, which they don't have (soy at least). I loved watching my sugar float on top of the foam for several seconds before it fell in. The coffee was a little bitter for my taste, but done really well. -Croissants: butter and almond were both amazing. Even though it didn't come straight out of the oven, it tasted so moist, buttery (in a good buttery way), and flaky. I DIE for amazing croissants! This place is def for those wants to sit, chilax and enjoy your company and ambiance! Heard about this draft latte people have been raving about and decided to come check it out for myself. All I can say is the hype is real!! It tastes like how I would imagine Shaft smooth talking would be. The mouth feel is like coffee velvet. They offer a regular and triple--the triple has triple shots while the regular has two. Same price, so why go for two when you could go for three reasons to make your day better?? Overall, probably one of the top cups of coffee I've had. Also, they have free sparkling water on tap. Oh, La Colombe you did not disappoint! My friend and I decided to spend a day coffee shop hopping and this was the first place on our list! First of all, they have quality coffee and the presentation is on point. If you're after latte art and cute cups this is definitely the place for you. They also have a variety of pastries to choose from that really pair nicely with a latte whether you prefer your drinks iced/hot. Second of all, I don't recall the name of our barista but he was friendly, helpful and super accommodating! When ordering and asking questions, he never made me feel like I was asking any dumb questions! & as I made my pastry order he asked me questions to make sure I was getting what I wanted. Also, when my friend had questions about their pour-overs, he was really helpful and told us about his preferences and tips, etc. La Colombe also has cuppings every now and then I believe, which are like tastings for coffee! I wasn't able to attend one of these, but doesn't that sound so cool? I think yes! This coffee shop is located in Shaw and is tucked away in alleyway so if you're not familiar with the area, you might not be able to find it right off the bat but when you do it's well-worth it!
