I went to this location because it is very close to my daughter's dentist. The last time we were in…read morethe area they only had the sign up and I was excited. This time the location was open and ready for business. It took me a minute to what to get and I ultimately decided on a lavender latte. I had questions before settling on it though like was it a syrup or liquid and would I taste the lavender. And it was a liquid and you could taste the lavender. I've had lavender lattes at other places and you just don't taste it and I'm glad I picked that. I also got a cheese kolache and it was ok. The meat in it tasted weird to me but I still ate it, but the bread it was wrapped up in was DELISH. Another plus was they validate parking, I don't know for how long because her dentist validated our parking. Inside it was very cute and pink and I like it. It wasn't overly pink but the right amount. There was plenty of seating both inside and outside but we choose to stand and wait for our food and drinks. They have a variety of savory and sweet food options to choose from if you need a bite as well. Only cons are that the prices are steep (prepare to pay close to $10 for a drink) and the space is small + packed. It can be tough to find a spot to sit inside. The workers are also super nice and friendly, and it's always a treat getting to have a nice convo with them when it's not too busy. Overall, one of my favorite coffee spots ever. While exploring the many museums across the University of Texas campus, a quick caffeine break was needed for my girlfriend and we were overwhelmed by the number of options on The Drag. It makes sense that there are plenty of places to choose from because of the large number of UT students. Everyone needs a little coffee in their lives. One of the highest reviewed ones with a large pool of ratings was Lucky Lab Coffee and after checking a few quick reviews, we decided to give it a chance. Lucky Lab has five locations in Austin (four on campus) and one location in Dripping Springs. The one we were at off The Drag was their flagship. This location serves a little bit of everything from sandwiches to pastries, salad to quiche, and of course, coffee. As we walked inside the flagship, it is easy to notice how tight the space is. There is very little seating inside at their bar, but they make up for it with plenty of shaded outdoor space that is perfect for a nice day. Scanning their menu, we landed on some drinks from their winter menu. I was intrigued by their Pomegranate Rosemary Latte while my girlfriend tried their Ginger Spice Mocha. We got them both iced. First, it is interesting to see the fusion of pomegranate and rosemary in a latte. I was intrigued by those flavors. Their drink sizes are 12 oz, 16 oz, and 20 oz, each adding an additional 50 cents to each upgrade. All milk alternatives cost 1 dollar. It was only a short wait to get our coffees and the cup with the little lab on it was cute. I think specialty drinks have an opportunity to be amazing and one of a kind or the worst drink imaginable. This pomegranate rosemary latte did not fall into either category exactly, but leaned more toward the latter. I love pomegranates and I always appreciate how earthy rosemary can be in a coffee. One of my favorite lattes I have ever had has rosemary in it. This was just not working for me. I shamefully did not finish my coffee. As for my girlfriend, she did not like her ginger spice mocha. I could not imagine gingerbread syrup not working in a mocha, but after trying it myself it was not for me either. It seems like a perfect match, but here the gingerbread is competing with the chocolate and instead of complementing each other they clash. She told me that the flavors were "un-mocha like". She drank less than half of her coffee before tossing it as well. Neither of us wanted to dislike Lucky Lab. They seem well established and I felt like they were trustworthy based on reviews, but I wonder what these previous reviewers were tweaking on or what magical concoction of coffee granted from heaven above they were sipping on because we were distraught by how disappointing these drinks were. I would like to give Lucky Lab Coffee Co the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe the specialty drinks were not up to par with their traditional beverages. However, the almost 30 different syrup options on their wall make me feel they lack a little focus and try too hard to stand out. They lose what makes a coffee good, which is coffee. I want to say I will give them a second shot in the future to see if it was just an off day or a bad beverage pick. Too many shots turns a Lucky Lab into Old Yeller. One of my favorite banana lattes for sure. It's sweet without being overly sweet and it's made with care. I also want to shout out the employees and everyone working- they really go out of their way to make sure you have a positive experience.
