This is probably the best quality Mexican food in Ukiah. The Asada Nachos were amazing.. but let me tell you about their fish tacos. Easily the best I have ever had. I have been all up and down the coast eating the best rated fish tacos and these are easily the best I have ever had. No. I ordered two carne asada super burritos. Do you know how impossible it is to taste the meat or other ingredients when a burrito is stuffed with sour cream? Do you see guacamole in this? Rice? Pico? Oh and only one very small bag of chips for two people to share with the burritos. They really missed the mark. $31 for sour cream burritos, but I ordered carne asada super burritos. Excellent tacos. Super friendly, fast and so much better than we could have imagined. The asada and fancy arrachera (sp?) style were amazing and the meat in the chicken taco was distinct and had that flat top crisp to some pieces. Avocado salsa great, and pickled carrots had a habanero sting that mellowed with each crunchy bite. Nice banquettes and a few two tops but the soccer games in the big screen were a little off after the dinner crowd filled in. Date night crowd on Saturday about 7pm not many people watching the tvs but lots of people loving the food and we heard a few compliments to the workers on the flavors and plates. I finally found my favorite restaurant in Ukiah! I've been here at least 3 times now and this is my review from my second visit. We decided to try their breakfast menu and drinks and they didn't disappoint! I ordered the chilaquiles and my husband got the French toasts. To drink we got a flight of mimosas and their cafe de olla. My only complaint with the chilaquiles is that I requested to try both red and green sauce on them and it didn't happen but they were delicious and the flavors on that plate were amazing! The French toast were perfectly cooked and so yummy. The cafe the olla was perfectly made that I didn't have to add anything to it. My favorite mimosa was your traditional one with tajin on the rim. The host and waitress were very attentive and the food didn't take long to come out. The portions are decent and the price is fair. The restaurant is not that big but it's cozy and clean. Like I said this is now my favorite restaurant so far so I highly recommend it. read more

It is quite unfortunate that I need to make this review. I really enjoy so many aspects of this restaurant. From the food, to the cozy space. The staff is very kind every time we come. This review is based on several visits, so not just one or two. While I love the important part, the food; I am upset that I cannot feel comfortable in this restaurant. It is not family friends whatsoever. 90% of the visits we have made here are sadly ruined by the fact that topless/barely clothed/butt cheeks out women are all over their plasma screen TVs. The atmosphere is set with great music, but sadly music videos are attached to this and shown on the massive televisions for everyone to see. There's no escaping it. I will NOT be returning with my child, whom I love to bring to dinner. And I am quite honestly hesitant to return all together due to this issue. read more

I literally stumbled into this place. I was in Costco getting a tire fixed at noon and decided to have lunch somewhere so just started walking. There isn't much around here and I certainly wasn't going to Panda Express. As I neared Starbucks, I noted a dim sign on the window just before Starbucks saying "La Cocina". I saw tables, I saw people with drinks and thought it might be a bar. I went in to find out and found a casual place that was pretty full. The menu looked very promising, then I saw some folks with some huge seafood cocktails and giant plates with some yummy crispy home made chips. I saw down and ordered something I have not yet been able to get in Mendocino County - a decent coctel de camerones - Mexican Shrimp cocktail. The one here was good, very very good. The shrimp were big, lots of avocado. The secret to these is just the right amount of ketchup and lime juice. There could have been more lime. Also - the chilies and pico were on the very bottom and I didn't know they were there until I ate down to it. Next time I will stir it up a bit more. All in all it was excellent. If it had been just a little warm, though, that would have been amazing. That's how you know your shrimp just got cooked - that warmish broth bathing your fresh shrimp, and avocado. This is what I long for. The chips were SO SO good. The little vial of avocado salsa could have been a touch spicier, but it was good. This seems like a real deal Mexican restaurant with high quality, well made food. There are lots of Mexican restaurants in Ukiah and Willits, and they all have a few good things, but there is no standout excellent Mexican place. This could be it for me! I think they may have cocktails, but I am not sure. Michealadas for sure, though. Some reviews mentioned good breakfast. I will be back to try more stuff! read more

What a delicious find! We stayed at a hotel nearby and needed to find a place for dinner. Yelp to the rescue! We were the first customers to come for dinner that night and were able to pick our table. We were given some yummy chips and salsas promptly. The avocado one was really yummy! I ordered the fish tacos and my husband ordered beef fajitas. Our food was prepared and delivered very quickly. The portions were huge! I was served two large fish tacos and a hearty serving of beans and rice. I loved everything on my plate. The food tasted so fresh and had the perfect amount of spice. I loved the smoky flavor of the food. So delicious! I wish La Cocina was closer to our home because I can guarantee we would eat there at least once a week! First-time visitor ordered a Chili Verde burrito to go. I usually advise no rice, but this time, I was tired from a long day and forgot to mention it. Inially, the burrito looked appealing when I first received it, with a few chunks of pork in the sauce poured over it. I cut it open to discover it was filled completely with RICE and about 3/4 cup of sour cream. THAT'S IT. Turns out the only pork was the few chunks in the scant sauce they poured over the burrito. Essentially I paid for a huge flour tortilla with sour cream and rice ONLY, for $14.00. No chunks of anything inside it, no refried beans, no shredded lettuce, salsa OR pork. I went to La Cocina after I had eaten. It was recommended by two different people and I only had one night in Ukiah. People...this place is legit for Mexican food and more importantly, the people. They really are invested. All of the staff were so friendly. I met the owner who was sitting at the bar. He just wanted to observe and see what the Patron saw. I will definitely come back. One of the BEST authentic Mexican places I have been to. Full disclosure, they don't have a full liquor license so the margaritas are agave margaritas. Still good but no tequila. read more
